Speaker 1 (00:00):
It is a football Thursday. It's more than just an
NFL football Thursday. It is also a college football Thursday,
in a high school football Thursday.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Joining us on the hot line is my broadcast.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Partner for Longhorn Football, who will be joining me on
that very very early morning flight tomorrow to Michigan by
way of Charlotte.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
By the way. K x HAN sports director Roger Wallace
joins us.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
But you've got high school football happening first tonight, so
your your timeline for sleep is probably even less than mine.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah, it's light.

Speaker 3 (00:34):
But I want to point out that that cam goes
from I don't remember the matchup to Craig Morton's stats
that you love twenty twenty four and integrate. You pull
up everything incons.

Speaker 1 (00:45):
And he does it quickly too. He pulls that up
very very quickly.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
Off I don't think of the Raiders when I hear
that music and the John facenda for some reason.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Well, you remember we played the one we did.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
The autumn win.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
We did that token the show today with that. Yeah, yeah,
that was a lot of a lot of funnel off
of that kind of thing. Let me when I don't
think I've ever asked you this when when you were
growing up in the nestled in the bosom of suburbia
there out there in Ohio, who was your NFL team?

Speaker 3 (01:24):
I was a weird kid, Craig, Yeah I was. I
was actually a Rams and a Raider fan when I
was really young, Okay. And one reason was, uh, I
was a big Kenny Stabler fan.

Speaker 2 (01:35):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
And then and then here's an odd name for you
to to to latch onto, Lawrence McCutcheon, number thirty. For
some reason, I.

Speaker 4 (01:43):
Really liked him.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
But then most of my fandom was Joe Montana related,
which was San Francisco, because I grew up a.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Notre Dame fan.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
Yeah, you went to the forty nine ers, and.

Speaker 3 (01:56):
And that, in fact, Craig, I was at the last
time I was at Michigan Stadium was forty five years ago.
Michigan Notre Dame. Notre Dame's Bob Crable blocks the field
goal with a few seconds to go to preserve a
twelve ten win. Bob Crable from Mueller High School. Two
years later, the Moller High School head coach gets a

(02:17):
Notre Dame job.

Speaker 4 (02:17):
Jerry Faust.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Can you imagine that?

Speaker 3 (02:19):
Now?

Speaker 4 (02:21):
Imagine?

Speaker 1 (02:23):
I can't even think about the fact that you know
that Todd Dodge got to got a shot to be
a college head coach straight from coaching at South Lake Carolin.
He went to North Texas and that kind of stuff
just wouldn't happen today, you know, it just wouldn't happen.

Speaker 3 (02:36):
No, but you know, he whistled the Notre Dame fight
song on his bike when he did his paper route.
That was so you know, why wouldn't they hire him
as the head coach of Notre Dame not long after
Montana led them to a national championship.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
Yeah, well that's true enough, all right.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
So you you have the advantage over all of us
because none of us, the rest of us have been
inside of Michigan Stadium.

Speaker 2 (02:59):
You know what that atmosphere is like.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Yeah, as Zar said today, it's a big building. It's
weird because and I'm sure you've seen you've been there
for basketball blot yes day, right, Yeah, but you know
it's not very impressive from the outside, right.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
You know.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
In fact, they got in trouble because they used to
carry students up and over and to the top of
the arena to the stadium rather and you know, it
wasn't like there were fourteen floors above the ground or
just you know, thirty people. But anyway, yes, I've been
inside twice. I'm in the two games, including that one
pretty historic game back in the day, So looking forward

(03:41):
to getting back there, and like everybody else, just looking
forward to what should be a pretty special Saturday.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Did the last Saturday's debut the premiere of your Texas
Game Day program there with not only did you have
Jonathan anchoring it, but obviously to have those special lifetime
Longhorns like Alex Ocover and Dan Neil joining Jonathan Thomas
for that show.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Everything go all right?

Speaker 3 (04:09):
Yeah, everything went great. Uh, you know, for shows, you
never know what to expect until you do it, kind
of like college football game where you don't get the
preseason games. But it went well, and then you know
the early one this week, so hopefully people will get
their fill of the two national pregame shows and then
maybe maybe an hour out of kick, decide to flip

(04:30):
over on Kicks and by the way this week and
check out the.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
Local pregame show and sample that as well they attend.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
That's the other reason I wanted to get you on,
just to make sure that that folks knew the programming
grid because last week was on KBVO. But but this week,
because of the early kick, you're you're able to put
it on the big one, right.

Speaker 3 (04:50):
That's right, That's right, and so hopefully get your Today
start and then I don't know if a lot of
people have put together the primetime game on NBC is
Colorader and a braw Colt McCoy making his network college debut.
Just curious how Colt will be received in Lincoln, Nebraska
going up there to do that game.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
One second, when the you know what, when the announcement
came down that that was going to be his first game.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
I'm sure you saw it.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
I saw it on social media about stuff and they said, well,
if cold is slow out of the gate, I'm sure
they'll give him an extra second, you know, and all
this kind of stuff. Yeah, it was all of that
kind of stuff. Okay, But you got high school football
starting off tonight.

Speaker 3 (05:29):
You and Keith Morland, right, yeah, seven o'clock, we're going
to be at the Gunton Stadium. We've got Booie and
Vista Ridge, both both coming off wins, both putting up points. Interesting,
what Visa did? They were down twenty one nothing to
Colleen at halftime and they lose and they win thirty
one to twenty one, so kind of found their footing
in the second half. Booie put up sixty against Manor,

(05:54):
so looking forward to that kick which is at seven
o'clock out at Gupton Stadium. Of course, you know Boom
the under jeff Ables, one of the deans and thirty
seventy year as a coach at Bowie, twenty third as
a head coach and as you know, one of the
great guys to work with, and Chad Scott doing a
nice job about it.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
Vista Ridge in his fourth year.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Yeah, my daughter, of course, who is the associate director
of the Starsteppers. When I asked her about the game,
she described it and I quote, well, we sucked the
first half, but the second half it was much better.

Speaker 2 (06:27):
So I said, she put it better than I did.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Off of that, and then the other thing I wanted
to ask you about helped me sort through all of
this now because I've seen a lot of the promos
and different in different programming and as a person who,
like many others at the moment, is feeling a lot
of a lot of tension with the direct TV impass

(06:55):
with Disney, so I'm not getting ESPN right now. There's
a little bit of a work around that I kind
of can kind of can work with, but it's but
it's higher maintenance that sort of thing. I can't just
flip all my TV while this Hymn pass is going
on right now, and that includes like in the mornings.
So I'm used to getting up and being able to
flip on a sports center, get up or one of
those programs and watch and can't do that right now.

(07:18):
And then I just accidentally stumbled on to on KBVO
Good Morning Football overtime, the NFL network.

Speaker 2 (07:27):
Crew doing the Money Show every morning. That's amazing, I did.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
I didn't even know that was going on all of
a sudden, I say, WHOA, what magic is this.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
That's the magic of nextstur broadcasting and the ability to
put so many different things on when you have three channels.
And so yeah, we we often compete with ourselves sometimes
with programming. Obviously this is not local programming, but it's
kind of unique programming on every morning.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
So it's a good show. Obviously, like you said, it's
out an NF you know.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
NFL, so it's out of LA But Yeah, that debuted
on Labor Day.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
I just stumbled onto it the other day and I
was like, oh okay, and I.

Speaker 3 (08:16):
Ended up watching Money because we're asked to promote all
the stuff that that airs. Obviously, you know, you want
people to watch, but that could be a whole sports cast,
all the things that we have between the three channels
to promote. Oh, by the way, we've got Raven schustonight
a year on k.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
X A N Yeah.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
So I guess the other thing that mystified, I didn't
know about this deal. You know, in the NFL Network crew,
they do their regular morning show, so this is just
like an add on that they get through syndication for
Next Star.

Speaker 2 (08:50):
Is that how that worked? Yes?

Speaker 3 (08:53):
Yes, And then I think a lot of the CW
channels for Next Star Eric, but because we have local
programming from seven to nine, we put.

Speaker 4 (09:03):
It over on KBBO. So yeah, it's a it's a you.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Know because Next Star now owns the CW, so you know,
we've got a big push for the Infinity series because
of that. So this is a program where we're able
to move it over h to KBVO because we don't
want to preempt our own local programming.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Well, you can't p you can't preempt that traffic and weather.
I mean, that's that's.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
Can not do it.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
That is a point, Keith. Yeah, I'm telling you it's
appointment viewing. It's the first I DVR in case oversleep
or whatever, and then and then I'm watching it.

Speaker 2 (09:38):
So yeah, I'm I'm I'm watching.

Speaker 1 (09:40):
All the meteorologists that entire huge stable of meteorologists you
guys have, and watching all of that. And then you
got Erica Brennis on traffic and of course she's married
to Ricky Brennis who used to work with us. Now
he takes care of the cow. You know, he's or
he's in charge of the group that takes care of Bevo.
So there, you know, you were and and and I
saw that one promo. I finally got to see that
promo where you're within what arms distance of Bevo And

(10:03):
that was probably about as close as you could get.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
Yeah, we went out and did some promos with with Beivo.

Speaker 5 (10:09):
And uh, I don't know if I was wrong with
you last week when I was asked about and you
get a little closer, No, I can't. I prefer to
be at least enough room away where I can you
know adjust and.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
The and the crew wanted to kind of clown around
with it maybe and put a cowboy hat on Bevo
and all that stuff.

Speaker 3 (10:29):
No, no, uh yeah, no paraphernalia with sacred bibo.

Speaker 1 (10:34):
Do not mess with the big guy when it comes
to that kind of stuff.

Speaker 3 (10:38):
You know, you you ask and you ask and you ask,
and you never know when you're going to be told no.
And they found out.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Okay, all right, finally I was gonna ask you, uh,
you do like I do, like some of the others
in the media, do we we take advantage of all
of the media opportunities to to uh uh, to to
hear from Sark. And then you have the extra thing
because you sit down with him after that thirstay media availability,

(11:05):
which had its own comic moments at times this morning,
but you get a chance to sit down with with
Sark right after that deal.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
He is I.

Speaker 1 (11:15):
Would imagine he's probably in a pretty good humor at
that point, especially coming off of that thing.

Speaker 3 (11:20):
Yeah, yeah, we're there for our pregame show, pregame interview, and.

Speaker 4 (11:26):
So yeah, he likes the efficiency. You know, Longwar Network.

Speaker 3 (11:31):
As great as it was, it did occupy a lot
of his time, and so I think he really is
enjoying the efficiency of how the week is set.

Speaker 4 (11:40):
Up right now.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
So yeah, he comes to me and we do a
you know, three four five minute interview for our pregame show.

Speaker 4 (11:46):
But yeah, he's in good spirits.

Speaker 3 (11:48):
But as you know, Craig, he is, he's the guy
that lives by the minute, so there's not a whole
lot of wasted time. And he walks maybe twenty five
feet from that zoom interview to us and then he's
you know, he's onto the next thing. But yeah, and
you know this as well as anybody.

Speaker 4 (12:04):
If you stop and you start talking.

Speaker 3 (12:06):
A little bit about college football, he changes dramatically.

Speaker 4 (12:09):
Oh man, that you know.

Speaker 2 (12:11):
Because that's his wheelhouse.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
But yeah, so we have a chance to visit with
him and we'll have that on the pregame show as
well Saturday morning.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
All right, well look forward to that.

Speaker 1 (12:21):
Of course, you and I will be on the airplane
and headed up there to Mark and when we hit
the ground and we get over there to the big
house and when you got work to do right for
k x an.

Speaker 3 (12:30):
Right, Oh yeah, yeah, I'm not going to see the sites, man,
I'm getting getting down the business. But it should be fun,
should be fun to be on campus. I mean, it's
going to be a lot like last year, the Buzz
and Tuscaloosa, you know, two pregame shows there, and I'm
sure campus is going to be be jumping.

Speaker 4 (12:47):
And my goodness, Craig, we're packing jackets tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
How about that? Right? For folks who want to know,
Roger text me and said, what's the attire? What what
are we going with? I'm like, how.

Speaker 3 (12:57):
About usually this early in the season, we don't have
to you know, suit.

Speaker 2 (13:01):
Up quite yet. No.

Speaker 1 (13:02):
No, as we say, the ninety degree rules in play,
you know, so we're wearing coaches polos most of the time.

Speaker 2 (13:07):
And I said, how about.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
Sport coach and turtlenecks? All right, ye, turtle deck So
we'll maybe we'll break that out on Saturday. Hey, I
appreciate the time. I'll see at the airport. Bright and dark,
I guess in the morning.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
See in the morning, Thanks Crag, Thanks Cam.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
There we go, Roger Wallace there, dark and early is
what I should have said, not bright and dark.

Speaker 2 (13:29):
It won't be bright. It'll be dark when we leave tomorrow.
So that's that.

Speaker 1 (13:34):
Up next, we're gonna hear more from longrn's head coach,
Steve Sarkisian when we continue on Sports Radio AM thirteen
under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
