Speaker 1 (00:00):
Glad to have you with us here on The Craig
Way Show, live from our iHeart Studios in Austin, Texas.
Speaker 2 (00:07):
I'm Cameron Parker.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Craig Way is boots on the ground in ann Arbor, Michigan,
actually I believe Detroit, Michigan, making his way over to
the Big House right now as we speak. I would
say Craig is probably questionable for the show to day. Now,
we think we're gonna get him on at least in
the second hour, hopefully by then. But the UT Equipment truck,
(00:29):
if you follow Texas Football and social media or the
UT Equipment truck on social media, that's a real thing
that actually that actually does drive from Austin all the
way up to ann Arboro, Michigan, and on that truck,
besides the boatloads of Texas Football equipment, does include the
Longhorn Radio Networks gear, and so the Longhorn Radio Network
(00:52):
engineer Greg Cleagansmith is waiting for the arrival of that gear.
I was told from Craig between two and three pm
Eastern time, so about an hour ago hopefully the equipment
was starting to get set up for Texas Football's radio
broadcast and also to allow Craig Way and hopefully Roger
Wallace to join us live from the Booth in Big
(01:13):
In from the Big House in an arbor as we
get ready for another huge Week two non conference marquee
matchup between Texas, and this time it'll be the Michigan Wolverine.
But before we get to that, let me introduce you
to our broadcast partner, of course, Andrew Zimmole, joining us
live from San Antonio.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
Zimble. What's up, my man? Hey, how's it going? Cam?
Speaker 3 (01:37):
You know, the joke has been that I am the
sixth man of Austin Sports Radio at this point, that
it's you know, Mark, Mike and A Khalil in the morning,
you and Craig in the afternoon, and then I'm monag
nobly coming off the bench. So I'm here, I'm good,
I'm grinding, I'm diving after lose balls. I'm excited to
be here.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Yeah, you are a huge part of our iHeart Radio
team for sure. Always appreciate Andrew, because you've for me
on Wednesday while I was over at Pluckers getting ready
for the Coaches Show. You always help fill in when
Craig's out of town or when I'm out of town.
So like Minu, you are appreciated and you will be
inducted one day into the Zone Hall of Fame. Preview
(02:16):
the show, Real Quick mentioned Craig hopefully joining us from
ann Arbor. Last metches I got from him, he was
actually on the plane. They had just landed in Detroit.
He actually had a stopover in Charlotte. Hopefully he got
to enjoy some bo Jangles World Famous Friday Chicken at
the Charlotte Douglas International Airport a touchdown that was about
(02:39):
twelve thirty, and he was heading on his way to
and Arbor driving from Detroit. So again, hopefully he'll be
joining us for the second hour of the show live
from the Big House. But until then, fun show plan
for you. Of course, it is Friday, and Andrew, what
does that mean for Inconceivable on a Friday.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
It's my favorite day of the we It's Florida Man Friday.
And he asked me before the show, Hey, do you
have anything quick Google search there's like thirty different stories
from the last twelve hours. So yeah, I'm pretty I'm
pretty excited. I'm pretty pumped.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Florida Man, Florida Woman always provide us some good content.
But before that next segment, hopefully we'll be joined by
my good friend in Texas football insider CJ.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
Vogel.
Speaker 1 (03:22):
He's actually also a boots on the ground in Detroit, Michigan.
I think last time I saw him he was doing
a live stream outside the Big House. So if he
is done with his business, he will join us at
some point in this show that give us his perspective
on tomorrow's big game, in which the Texas Longhorns favored
right now by a touchdown in half a point seven
(03:44):
and a half. That line opened I believe at four.
Some people told me it was three and a half.
But the betting betting public is siding with the Longhorns,
and a lot of people outside of that are as well.
All that on today's show, Gene Watson, if Craig is
able to make it, Watson will join give us a
little baseball talk. But last night, Andrew, let's begin with
(04:07):
the NFL season opener. The Kansas City Chiefs, the defending
world champions, looking for a three pet That has not
been done in American football since the Green Bay Packers
did it from nineteen sixty to nineteen sixty two. That
was before the Super Bowl Area. So Casey trying to
make history this season based off against the Baltimore Ravens
(04:30):
last night, the team they beat in the AFC Toutle
game and produced one of the better season opening games
coming down to the very last play, the toe game,
we might call it, with Isaiah likely what we thought
was catching a touchdown past the Ravens going for two
for the win or the loss. But it turns out
Isaiah likely's toe on the chalk. Ravens end up losing
(04:53):
to the Chiefs to start the season twenty seven to twenty.
Andrew Zimo, your big takeaway from last night's.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
Game, Well, the first thing, of course, is I'm a
fantasy football owner. I feel bad for Mark Andrew fans
who were hoping that he was going to have the
type of game Isaiah likely ended up having, which I
think he blew the doors off of any fantasy projection.
The second big thing we know this as Texas fans,
you gotta get a shoe smaller. You saw Kevin Durant
do it in the NBA playoffs, and now Isaiah likely
(05:22):
might move down a shoe size because he was.
Speaker 2 (05:25):
Literally a toenail over the line.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
And we went through it this morning on OAI trying
to figure out how many different close calls this has been.
There's a famous Sean Elliott shot whereas heels were over
maybe maybe not, he was out of bounce. This one
must hurt if you're a Ravens fan because they had
every I think, every reason to think if you're a
Ravens sand, that you were gonna win that game.
Speaker 1 (05:48):
Cam and you could tell how much it meant to
them the way Lamar Jackson was fired up on the sidelines.
He was very animated, and even the postgame stuff. You
saw the quote from Isaiah Likely saying his quote was
a something about if that was the worst, that was
the worst the Ravens have played, and that's the best
(06:08):
the Chiefs have played, look out because we're not going
to lose with them again. You had Lamar Jackson kind
of I don't know if delusion of the right word is,
but you know, and asked about the non touchdown, he said,
I don't care what the replay says or what the
referee says, that was a touchdown. I mean, technically it's
it's it's not Lamar, sorry about that, but you could
just kind of tell by the way that they have
(06:29):
spoken postgame and the way they acted that game meant
a lot more to the Ravens than it did the Chiefs.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
Well, you have to think too, with the AFC being
as tight as it's going to be between the Ravens
and the Bengals and the Chiefs, this game could completely
change what the AFC playoff picture looks like. And I
don't want to overreact to Week one, but it matters
cam because if the Chiefs end up winning the AFC
as the one seed, now the entire playoffs go through Arrowhead.
We're gonna look back at this game and go man,
(06:58):
that Isaiah likely not touch down was one of the
biggest plays of the year.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
No fair point, especially if these teams are tied going
into the playoffs. In this in the home field advantage
for the playoffs, and the AFC has decided because Isaiah
likely his toe was just half an inch over the line,
that could come back big and the Chiefs had home
field advengage. But last season I believe in uh in
the in the aflame the Ravens did. Yeah, the Ravens
(07:26):
for the number one. Maybe it doesn't matter at this point,
Maybe it does not. Maybe home field football does not
matter that much anymore. Uh My big takeaway from last
night's game, if you were a Chiefs a Ravens fan,
you feel pretty good about your team.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
You feel better about your team for the Chiefs.
Speaker 1 (07:46):
I mean, I'm sat on the show yesterday Andrew as
long as Patrick Mahomes is standing upright, the Chiefs are
the favorite to win the Super Bowl. I mean he
won it last season, throwing to water boys and equipment
managers that a two years in a row had just
one of the most mediocre offenses statistically in the league
last season. You mentioned Xavier Worthy first play or first
(08:09):
touch of his NFL career goes to the house. Marlin
Humphrey with a total brain vart mental laps gives a
Worthy second touchdown. And Marquise Brown was not on the
field last night. So think about the Chiefs offense when
they get Marquise Brown. And Mahomes talked about it in
the postgame about even on plays when Worthy didn't get
(08:30):
the ball, the Ravens defensively secondary they were playing shell
covers because they were so afraid of the threat of
Xavier Worthy burning them deep. Now you factor in Marquise Brown,
but the entire game. It felt like Andrew Rashi Rice
was open in the middle of the field every play. I
felt like every play Rice is wide open. That's the
exavier worthy event. Wait till Marquis Brown gets out there,
(08:53):
and this Chiefs offense, which honestly hasn't been a lot
of fun to watch the last two years, all of
a sudden becomes Hey, I can't wait to watch the
Chiefs play every Sunday with Worthy, with Marquise Brown. And
they even have a white running back, Carson Steele. How
about that three yards and two carries. Maybe they need
Edwards Hilai back because going to him with the game
on the line maybe not the move. But a Chiefs
(09:14):
offense looks a lot of fun. Defensively, they had time
struggle with Lamar Jackson. That's where I want to get
to the Ravens side of it, because the Ravens you
lose McDonald, they're the defensive corner of the Seattle. He
brings almost his entire staff with him. The Baltimore you
lose what thirteen fourteen to fifteen players in free agency.
You're kind of worried about the offensive line. You bring
(09:35):
in Derrick Henry. I thought The Ravens looked incredible last night,
Lamar Jackson one hundred and twenty two rushing yards. And
how about Isaiah Likely? You mentioned Mark Andrews feel bad
for his fantasy owners. Isaiah Likely the Colsta Carolina kid.
We've always heard about him, and we always hear about
tight ends who get a lot of love and they
don't really ever do anything. Kyle Pitts looking at you,
(09:56):
this is the Isaiah Likely. I think a lot of
NFL nerds thought we would s Seaton last night on
full display. He's going to be a problem this season
for teams. Happened to the Van Baltimore and maybe that
thunder and lightning stuff. Maybe we'll see more from Todd
Munkins offense as they break into it in the beginning
of the season. More throughout, were gonna see more Lamar
and Derek Ken reaction. But hey, if I'm a Ravens
(10:17):
or Kansas City Chiefs fan, so matter the score.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
Last night, I feel pretty good about where these two
teams stand.
Speaker 3 (10:22):
Well, I think if you're a Ravens fan, you're feeling
pretty good after Cam tells you to feel good, because
I would feel Heartbrooke, I feel a lot tougher and
for likely you know, he's playing on the same field
as Mark Andrews is an All Pro guy and Travis
Kelsey a future Hall of Famer, and he was the
best tight end last night.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
So that says something. In week one.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
It does, and it's not like Mark Andrews wasn't didn't
have an impact. I think blocking wise, you go back
and great, look at it again. He Yeah, basically he
was killing it blocking wise, And same thing for Kansas
City with Travis Kelsey only three catches, but I mean
he was getting Noah Gray and Justin Watson looks just
because of his just because by him being out there
(11:01):
is even as a decoy, the field is so much
more open with Kelsey and Xavier Worthy on the field.
Speaker 3 (11:06):
Now.
Speaker 1 (11:07):
The one thing with the Chiefs, we're still waiting to
hear what happens with Rashi Rice's legal issues. I think
the NFL said they're waiting for the investigation or whatever
it is to be wrapped up. Then the NFL we'll
and do their investigation and get into their suspension. So
you know, maybe at some point during the season, Rashee
Rice is suspended for four games, so interesting to see
(11:27):
how that plays out Up next, we're gonna see if
Cja Vogel is ready. We're gonna talk a little Texas first, Michigan.
Of course, you can always join the show by texting
the word Texas to eight one five three zero, followed
by your message tell us maybe what your biggest takeaway
was from last night, what you're looking for the watching
(11:47):
this weekend, in your thoughts on Texas and Michigan. And
if you're up there in ann Arbor or Detroit, let
us know is Texas Football Nation showing up? Because I've
heard reports there's a lot of burn Orange that will
be in the Big House tomorrow. It's the Greg Waves Show.
It's a fire me up Friday, and we'll be back
after these messages
