Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here we go with our number two of today's program.
It's a fire me Up Friday on the Craigway Show.
Cameron Parker standing in for Craigway until he is able
to join us from ann Arbor, Michigan. Just to arrive
up to Detroit earlier this afternoon, made the drive to
ann Arbor and right now they are setting up the
Texas Radio Broadcast booth at the Big House for tomorrow's game. Now,
(00:25):
if you aren't going, or you are going, want to
make sure you can listen to Crag at the game,
or outside the game, or to our pregame show. Let
me give you the rundown because it's going to be
a really fun day. Starting at eight am, Longhorn's Game Day,
the official pregame show of Texas Football. That is a
shameless plug because it is hosted by myself. We'll be
(00:46):
live from Cover three at Anderson Lane. Doors open at
ten thirty, so if you need a place to watch
the game, come out to Cover three on Anderson Lane.
Going to have drink specials throughout the game, so make
sure you come out there. But we'll be live right
here on AM thirteen hundred The Zone myself with Mike Hardball, Harje,
Mark Henry, and got loutny of guests lined up for you.
(01:08):
We're gonna speak with lifetime Longhorn NFL pro bowler Michael Griffin.
He'll stop by cover three. Remember he started in the
and the last time texts the Michigan play at the
four Rose Bowl. That's right, Michael Griffin started, and then
he played in the largest away game in Texas football
(01:28):
history against Ohio State at the Horseshoe in HO five.
Started that game. I gotta get his thoughts on what
it's like to play in a game like that, in
an atmosphere like that, and his thoughts on the secondary
of Texas that was much improved since giving up four
hundred yards against Michael PENNOCKX junior in Washington in the
(01:49):
College Football Playoffs semifinal last year. At one point in
that third quarter, they had allowed just fifty nine passing
yards Arts Manning had sixty at one point in that
third quarter, and then more garbage time kicked in, but
in the secondary shut down a lackluster Michigan passing attack.
(02:10):
We'll get his thoughts in that game. Uh anwar Richardson
from Orange Bloods dot com Texas football writer. He'll join
us on the show as well get his thoughts on
the matchup. Also going to hear from a Michigan insider,
Sackshaw from CBS Sports in two four seven. He'll call
in for man Arbor and get the Michigan perspective of
this game. I want to know is this a rebuilding
(02:31):
year or a reloading year for Michigan because it does
seem like it's a rebuild year.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
Now.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
We've gotten accustomed to Kirby Smart, Nick Saban Georgia Alabama,
where it feels like every year they might lose ten
draft picks, but there's ten five stars just waiting to
go and there's no drop off. But for Michigan, who
lost nine offensive starters, I think they lost six defensive
starters coming this season. Do they have the play to
(03:02):
allow Michigan to contend for a title again? Gonna get
his thoughts on that as well. Craig Waye and Roger Wall,
We're going to leave there too. They lost their head.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
Coach, Oh of course, yeah, I think the most important
Jim Harball.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Yeah, well, it's truly lost their Jesse mentor defensive coordinator.
Lost a handful of guys it's Connor Stallions who he
might be on the sideline. I mean we never know, right,
he could have been on the Austin sideline last week
against Colorado State. I mean he's gotten back in the
coaching right, he's a high school coach. It's a lot
(03:34):
has changed in an arbor for Michigan over the year.
Not not saying that their program is going to be
in disarray, but when you look at it, the more
and more you read about, the more and more you
watch from last week, you gotta feel pretty good about Texas.
But we'll talk to them, get Craig Waye and Roger
Wallace's thoughts. They'll be joining us from the booth as well,
and hopefully from the booth later on in this show.
So that show a two hour show from eight to
(03:56):
ten tomorrow and then we'll pass it off to Craig
way Wallace and Will Matthews for the network. Pregame show
and kickoff will take place eleven AM on the Longhorn
Radio Network and you can listen to that in ninety
eight point one Cavett also on AM thirteen hundred the
Zone as well, and if you're interested in watching the game,
(04:19):
it will be airing on Fox. I think Game Day
is going to be there, Big newon Kickoffs is going
to be there. Andrew, I've seen so many promotions for
like celebrity guest pickers, and I've seen Michael Phelps. I
think I've seen money Bag Yo. Will Ferrell for some
reason will be there. I'm sure McConaughey and Glenn Palli Bey.
There's a lot going on on Saturday.
Speaker 3 (04:42):
There's a ton of stars that are gonna Derek Jeter,
I think is the captain for Michigan, that's gonna come
out for the coin toss. There's a lot going on.
I just am really happy that Craig has a hotel
because I would hate for him to get up there
and not be able to get a key to his
hotel room because it seems like that place is gonna
be sold out. I don't know how they have enough
room for everybody because it's gonna be jam packed.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
And from what CJ was saying CJ Fogo from on
Texas Football and even the reports from Craig and other
friends are up there, they've seen a lot of burn
orange walking around. There was a stuff on Twitter about
apparently Cooper Manning paying the have the Texas longhorns fly
outside Michigan hotel and the Michigan fans saying that no, no,
no no, if that's what they do for all the
(05:24):
away games. But regardless, I think Texas fans are making
their presence felt in an arbor already.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
Yeah, you go show me where they had Ohio state
flags outside that hotel cam and then I'll believe it.
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, that's true. Needs need some proof, people need some pictures.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
If you're up there, please hit us up on the
text line text to where Texas the eight wine to
five threes here. Let us know if you're there, what
it's like, what you're excited for, where you're gonna tailgate at.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
If you're not going to the game, you're just there.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Where you're gonna watch it as well, and also maybe
your thoughts on the game itself, maybe you watched Chiefs
Ravens last night, whatever it is on your mind, let
us go and a course, the talkback feature is always
open to us on the iHeart radio app. Just hold
down that red microphone button thirty seconds. We want to
hear your input again. Craig White will be joining us
(06:16):
later on in the show. They are setting up the
Texas Football Radio booth right now, Andrew Zimmo and Cameron
Parker with you some quick hitters on this matchup banger
between Texas and Michigan. And next segment we're gonna get
more into the NFL. But a quick look, and this
is from Bill Connolly on ESPN Plus. Now, you're not
(06:37):
a big FPI guy, and that's probably just because they
have utsa favorite over your Texas state Bobcats, Andrew, but
looking at it the line right now, Texas seven and
a half. They are a touchdown favorite on the road.
The sp plus production from ESPN Texas by six and
a half. In the FPI projection has Texas winning by
(06:58):
double digit it's ten points now looking in the last
five years, just the last five years, so that's includes
the Jim Harball era in so far one game of
the Sharon More era. When Michigan has been at home
and it's been an underdog, they're one and two, one
in two at the Big House. Now, those three games
(07:20):
you had, they were a six point underdog to Wisconsin
in twenty twenty lost by thirty eight points. Wisconsin was
number thirteen Michigan under rank. But as you said, COVID
year Michigan went two and four, maybe a bit of
anomaly because the next three season Michigan would win twelve
games or more. The other two times they have been
underdogs at home, you can probably guess it. Ohio State,
(07:43):
a seven point favorite in twenty twenty one, won that
game forty two twenty seven, so they did cover the spread.
And the last time they were an underdog at home,
actually they might just be one in one.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Maybe my math let me down.
Speaker 1 (07:59):
Nope, sorry, nineteen they were a nine point underdog Oaho
State lost that game by twenty nine points. But twenty nineteen,
twenty twenty, I think you can probably throw away those numbers.
Even twenty twenty two, or rather at twenty or even
twenty twenty one when they beat Ohio State by that
big margin. Kind of hard to tell. But the way
(08:20):
this Michigan offense is, I don't see them scoring a
lot of points. But the one thing about this defense
is Andrews that they still have probably one of the
best defensive lines in the country. And so when I
asked CJ about how does he feel about the Texas
running game, it's because Texas being able to establish to
run is going to be such a big part of
(08:40):
this game that I wonder if because Sark's gonna look
at the defensive line, he's going to see Mason Graham,
the junior who is going to be a first round
draft pick. He's going to see Kenneth Grant, junior, another
defensive tackle. And by the way, Joel Klatt on his
show said this week that he thinks Kenneth Grant, not
Mason Graham, but Kenneth Rant might be one of the
(09:01):
best DT's in the NFL in just a few years.
But I wonder if Sarks sees that in the sides,
you know what, I'm going to open up and just
throw the ball.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
I think that there's something to be said for Texas
coming out and trying to punch Michigan in the mouth
early in this one. Cam The other part that's kind
of interesting coming into this game is because the defensive
line is allegedly so good for Michigan.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
I'm wondering, like again.
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Kind of like we're saying, like, will Texas try to
run between the tackles really early in this one. I
have another question for you, because I know we're coming
up on the break here, but eight am pregame show?
Is that the earliest you've had to get up for
a pregame show.
Speaker 1 (09:42):
I mean usually, you know, the earliest you're gonna have
with Texas football game or even a football game is
always eleven am. So I've had a lot of early
days in my time on BEV Boulevard. Actually, tomorrow I'll
be able to probably sleep in until about, you know,
maybe seven. I've gotten up at four am to get
down to the Bevil Boulevard and set up up bright
and early.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
In my my my.
Speaker 1 (10:03):
Beginnings, my beginnings of sports radio when I want it
was not on the air.
Speaker 2 (10:08):
Oh couldn't.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
I couldn't remember if you were a morning person or not.
I'm definitely not a morning person. But you get used
to it, and it's Texas Michigan, you don't. I don't
need any coffee in the morning. I mean, I'll get
some coffee, But for a game like this, I mean,
this is just like Texas Bama two years ago at DKR,
that was eleven am kickoff, and that was the loudest
I've ever heard DKR getting. I was on the sideline
(10:31):
for Texas LSU the Joe Burrow year. So I'll be
ready to go. I know Texas Nation will be ready
to go, and I know the Longhorns.
Speaker 2 (10:39):
On the football field, we'll be ready to go.
Speaker 1 (10:41):
We'll continue this conversation throughout the show up next year
on The Craig Way Show. We'll be joined by Craig
Way himself at some point from Ann Arbor. But I
look ahead at Week one of the NFL season. Get
you the slate, a preview of Eagles Packers tonight and
Drew's picks for the Super Bowl. We got mine and
(11:02):
Craig's yesterday. Whant to hear Zimmel's predictions himself? Here It's
a fire me Up Friday on The Craig Way Show.
