Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ike SAIDs up fellas, I always appreciate Ike commenting. And
then on the YouTube page as well, Beard just Beard
uh said when is the last time Craig had an
uncomfortable moment?
Speaker 2 (00:14):
Please please respond?
Speaker 3 (00:17):
I have lots of un I lead a life of
uncomfortable moments.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
I'm guessing you like on the broadcast.
Speaker 3 (00:25):
Uh yeah, I don't you know that those things tend
to lock themselves into the game, and what you try
to do, what you try to avoid, is painting yourself
into a corner. Yeah, voluntarily, you know, making a mistake
(00:45):
and you get you get a little too cute, see
and all that other kind of stuff that can you know,
lead you off the rails.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
You you stick to the plan. You know, we have
a game plan just like everybody else. You know, you
which you can so.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
But you know, have you ever had anyone streak in
a game you were calling? Oh yeah, that's probably the
most Maybe I don't know, uncomfortable is the right term,
but that's the most kind of like, oh, here.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
We go, so I have time to tell it, Yeah,
I do.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Before we.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
Some popcorn drinks, everybody.
Speaker 3 (01:19):
Two thousand and five baseball team that would go on
and win the National Championship up in Lincoln, Nebraska playing
the Nebraska corn Huskers and Texas And it was a
chili Friday night up there. It was in like in April,
(01:39):
but it was chili there. And you know in Lincoln
and Haymarket Park in Lincoln is a is a nice
it's a nice ballpark to call games in. And it's
got like it's kind of almost like the backdrop is
almost kind of like Cooersfield has a tree scape, you know,
that kind of thing out there on a berm. And
(02:03):
there was one point in the game where sure enough
the guys jumps over the centerfield fence from the centerfield
bleachers into the outfield centerfield with autistitch of clothing on
and he runs completely diagonally across, like from centerfield to
(02:26):
right field. And we did kind of describe it. I
don't know if we went full on Kevin Harlan on
the deal, but we're like, there's a guy who's streaking
across the field.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
It's being Keith Morland there.
Speaker 3 (02:35):
The guy's running full blast across the outfield and he
gets over near the fence. Now, at most athletic events,
you know that they have those events staff, those bright
yellow shirts they wear or in chili weather those bright
yellow like windbreaker jackets. Well, I would say that the
(02:56):
median age of the security people wearing those event staff
jackets there Lincoln that night was probably about sixty seven
the median age. And nobody wanted to touch the guys.
He's coming a fence and it's kind of like ugh,
you know, because the man was naked, and he took
off running toward the highway bridge and it looked like
(03:17):
he got away. We found out the next day. The
Nebraska broadcasters told us that he was indeed apprehended, that
he had crouched him between some parked cars under the bridge.
You know, you can do your own visual for that.
But he thought that the police had given up the search.
(03:38):
He came out and then they caught him. Well, so
they caught him and they took him in and you know,
put him in our code of some sort or something,
some garment and took me in. And while they were
you know, booking him for criminal trespass, an indecent exposure
and a few other things, they asked him why he
did it, and he said, and it was a college student,
and he said, did it for a an eighteen pack
(04:01):
of like ice house beer. It's an eighteen pack, that's
what he did. But he was quite the naked man. Yeah,
so yes, I've seen that. I wonder if you ask
him now, was it worth it?
Speaker 2 (04:16):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (04:16):
I know. Well he's got a memory, right, Yeah, he
has a memory of it, if nothing else. All right,
here's one more conversation. Our Will Matthews is sitting down
with Longbarn's tight end Gunner Heilm.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
Hey, guys, I am so excited for this special interview
with my guy Gunner, Helm Gunner. You have just come
on strong this season, but you've waited your turn, and
it seems like guys on the Texas team, I've decided
that that is one of the best ways to develop.
Talk about your development and what does it meant to
(04:52):
get your chance.
Speaker 2 (04:53):
Now, Yeah, it means everything.
Speaker 5 (04:55):
Just put in the work every day, putting the work
in the off season, trusting coach Banks, trusting coach Star,
trusting coach Flood and whatever they're saying.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
They've been around a lot of great.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
Players in their coaching career wherever they've been, So you know,
I'm just trying to fit myself into that mold.
Speaker 2 (05:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:10):
So when you're looking at this team and you're just
kind of stepping back because you guys have won some
incredible accolades every week.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
It seems like a couple of things. But what so
impressed you about this team? What brag on your brothers?
Speaker 5 (05:25):
Just the way that we've been able to come together
as one so quickly.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
We've got a lot of new guys, a lot of.
Speaker 5 (05:31):
Young guys, some transfer guys that play key roles on
our team.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
So I think that, you know, our culture is second
to none.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
And you know, I think that when you have a
group that can kind of wrangle in everyone and help
help that, you.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Know, I think that's special.
Speaker 5 (05:49):
And I think that speaks volume to the culture that
coach Stark and his players have built.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Hearson spit here you are, You're talking a lot about culture.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
There's been some incredible guys that you've been around to
Tave Sanders on and on and on, and you're doing
your thing. Now, tell me how that culture has infected
you and what you're bringing to a culture.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
I bring whatever I can.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
I mean, it's affected me because with how close this
team is, especially with.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
All the new guys and guys that left early.
Speaker 5 (06:18):
And you know, just are moving on to better things
in the National Football League or wherever they are. You know,
it's so easy to go to battle for these guys
every week. It truly is, especially with a team like this,
and you know we're close, we love each other.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
So Gunner, I've been there where you know you're playing,
you fight, you get there and you finally get that touchdown.
Remember how that felt? But you did it on one
of the biggest stages in the country. How did it
feel to catch that ball in the big house in Michigan?
It just as a payoff for just a lot of
hard work.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Yeah, it was great.
Speaker 5 (06:53):
You know, it's obviously a dream come true, but you
know it's just another step in the right direction of
getting a win in a pretty tough environment.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
Yeah, there is Gunner Helm who's made some beg catches
already last year and this year for the Loghorns. We'll
be back to wrap up today's edition of the program
here on sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of
the iHeartRadio app.
