playoff spots were clinched last night, cam the yesterday and tonight.
The Milwaukee Brewers became the first team to clinch a
division title because they had that healthy, healthy lead on
the Cubs. And when the Cubs lost a home game
to the A's yesterday afternoon, that locked up the National
League Central for the Brewers, who then went out and

meat the Phillies in a walk off. So what it
has done is tight and really tight. And themes things
up for the top record, you said, what's the big
deal with that? Remember the top two records earn first
round byes. This is how close it is. The Phillies
are ninety one and sixty one, and in ESPN's power

rankings they remain number one despite the laws ninety one
and sixty one. The Los Angeles Dodgers number two, they're
ninety and sixty two. They're one half or one game
behind that. Then in their power rankings, the Yankees are
eighty nine and sixty three. Then the Brewers at four
eighty eight and sixty four. The Brewers are two games
back of Los Angeles and three back in the wal

of Philadelphia. Again, the important element here is if you
finish in the top two, you get a bye, and
the Yankees are closing in on winning a division and
getting a buye, but they did clinch a playoff spot
last night. Podres, however, have been just white hot of late.
They're only three and a half back of LA in

one final series against each other next Tuesday, Wednesday and
Thursday in Los Angeles, so that's a big, big deal,

Guardian six, the Diamondbacks seventh. They kind of skipped around
a little bit. The d Backs they had stumbled a

little bit of late, but they're still in good shape
to make the playoffs. The Astros and the Power rankings
are eighth, the Orioles nine, and the Mets round out
the top ten. On that, then you have Kansas City,
Atlanta and Detroit the Tigers. Did you know that the
Detroit Tigers have the best record in the American League
since the All Star Break. Oh, they're eighty and seventy three.

They are a game they are a one half game
back of the Twins for the third wildcard spot, and
a game and a half back of Kansas City. Had
just got through finishing off off the Royals winning in
Kansas City, and then the it goes Twins Mariners. So
unfortunate for the Mariners. They had a chance to really

make up ground of the Astros who dropped two or
three the San Diego and the Mariners just could not
get past the Yankees, so that that was the problem there.

So it looks like they're not going to get in.

The Cubs, the Red Sox, the Cardinals also probably would
not get in.

But anyway, there's the there's the power rankings. But it's
tight going on.

The Astros are probably going to wind up as the
three seed in the American League. Don't think they're going
to catch the Yankees. Don't think they're going to catch
the Guardians. So New York and Cleveland would draw first
round bys, and that would mean the Astros would have
to play a wild card series that first weekend. That's

why we talk about the importance of trying to land
a top two spot.

To say, really, really, did you see what happened in
the National League last year to the top two seeds? Perfectly,
that's a perfect example, as the Dodgers and the Brewers
both went out to Dodgers, and the Phillies both went
out to the Diamondbacks. The Diamondbacks first of all, won
the Wildcard Series over the Brewers, then they swept the Dodgers,

then they beat the the Diamondbacks, and so they were
a wildcard. What about the Rangers, same story, wildcard route.
That's the whole thing about win and get in. But
for teams who have had injuries to their pitching staffs
and they've struggled a little bit, that buy could make
a big difference. LA is one of those teams. I

think also Cleveland and New York could be in that
category of where the bye would really help them out.
San Diego's pitching is part of its strength right now.
Why the Padres have been so tough and are coming
on like gangbusters here late in the regular season. It's
down ten games to go, ten days left in the
baseball regular season, before we get on to the playoffs.

There the Rangers, by the way, I have not been
mathematically eliminated yet.
