Speaker 1 (00:00):
So it's Tuesday, and we welcome you to the program
here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone. My
name is Craig wag glad to have you with us,
and we're with you from two.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
To five PM.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Had lots on the table for you today, joined of
course by the producer Cameron D.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Parker.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
The D on the birth certificate stands for Dallas, as
in the favorite football team of his father. Therefore he
bestowed that name Dallas as the middle name at the
birth of the younger Parker who's had to live with
it ever since. And in some years it's okay, But
in all the time he's been alive, they have not

(00:37):
even advanced.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
The NFC Championship.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Therefore he has decreed he shall not watch him the season.
He's not watched them, at least not live. And while
it's going on with the but I'm still kind of
curious about that deal where you said you were seeing
the Rams forty nine Ers game on Red Zone and
you said you did not get a live glimpse of
Cowboys Ravens, when I know good and well when I
was watching that, I was seeing him split that screen

(01:01):
in half. How did you block that out? Did you
put like an eye patch on or something like that?

Speaker 2 (01:06):
What did you do?

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Well, I'll be honest, I wasn't completely locked in Rams Niners.
I was, you know, towards the end end of that game.
I think they weren't showing the Cowboys and then maybe
it was double boxed, you know, And but.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
That's what that's what they did. They just double boxed.
They would cut back and forth, but mainly double box.
But at that point the Cowboy game was already over with. Well,
they were making their light push. Yeah, but it was
it was overweight. I mean, it was over.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
They were still playing the game just to play the game,
but it was was pretty the.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
Clock had not expired. Yeah, gotcha?

Speaker 1 (01:39):
Okay, all right, Uh, I have some Cowboys stuff to
get to here.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Momentarily, you see.

Speaker 3 (01:46):
Mike McCarthy snap that Nick Carris, former Rivals reporter, high
school reporter here in Texas who now joined the Dallas
Cowboys and now writes for the four were a Star Telegram.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
I tried he took Clarence Hill's place. Yeah, no, I
did not see that. Was that at his weekly news conference?

Speaker 2 (02:04):
He did?

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Yeah, things aren't going great in Dallas right now?

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Well, I was about to get some of that, and
I will momentarily. Also, this is a Texas Tuesday. Being
a Texas Tuesday, we hear from long warn football players.
We talked football in the lone Star State, inclusive of
the Dallas Cowboys and also the Houston Texans college football
because coming up in the three o'clock hour our weekly

(02:29):
chat with Greg Tepper, managing editor of Dave Campbell's Texas
Football Magazine, to talk college football in the state and.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
High school football. So we'll do that in the three
o'clock hour.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
Four o'clock hour, we pivot back to the Texas Mississippi
State matchup as we visit with the play by play
voice of the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Neil Price, will be
with us coming up at the four o'clock hour, so
we look forward to doing that. Okay, George, Monday Night footballlast.

Speaker 3 (02:54):
Night I did, Yeah, double Monday Night Football, Double Monday
Night Football, and those of us who had fantasy football
team interests were Keenlee tuned into that.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Listen.

Speaker 1 (03:02):
It's been a long long time. I don't know if
I've ever been three and oh oh look at you.
I don't know if I have it might have been
the first year that I was in it, when I
won it in ninety nine, when I had all those rams.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
The year they went to the Super Bowl might have
been that.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
But I can't remember being three and oh any other time,
so we'll see how long that lasted. But I was
watching it obviously, like you were great to see Demorrow
Hamblin come up.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, I about that with an interception. That was that's great.
That's such a good, I feel good story. I mean,
with everything that's happened to him, for him to be
able to come back, first of all, the for him
to even be alive, yeah, is one thing. For him
to even still be playing football is another. For him
to be starting for the Buffalo Bills, who are three
you know, is another thing. And then to come up
with an interception just an incredible Hollywood type story stuff.

(03:52):
And on the flip side, what Josh Allen did last
Night's Legal because the Crows, he was making the way
that they were dice up Jacksonville.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Yikes.

Speaker 3 (04:03):
If you're a Jaguar fan, I think you're worse off
than a Cowboys fan.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
Right.

Speaker 1 (04:07):
Well, you know what, I'm glad you brought that up
because I saw a post today in social media that
folks said who which NFL coach will be fired first?
And Vegas says it's going to be Mike McCarthy. But
I don't see Jerry Jones doing that. On the other hand,
things are not going well for the Jaguars and Doug Peterson,

(04:29):
and that team's got to go and play a couple
of games in London, and you're where the owner is
going to be over there, Shid Khan, he's going to
be there and if you know like what he sees,
you know anyway, So there's there's that sort of thing.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
Yeah, for the Cowboys, So if they lose to the
Giants because they played Thursday night football, it would make
sense if something's going to happen that McCarthy gets fired
that night or Friday, because then you have a week
week and plus a couple more days to get your
new coaching. But I don't even know who the head
coach to be for Jackson. You mentioned the London thing.
That's a huge part of this as well. But oh

(05:04):
to three. You signed Trevor Lawrence to that deal fifty
five million dollars average annual salary. He's lost eight straight
games at the starting quarterback and a Jaguar team. You thought, okay,
it's it's the year three Doug Peterson. Yep, Okay. Now
the wheels will be in motion. They're going to show
some signs of live. This is the year for them,

(05:24):
and they look worse than they did with Urban Meyer.
It's the same thing. So I think Peterson's first coach fired.
I'm trying to remember, Craig, you probably remember more than me.
Has Jerry ever fired a coach midway through the season? No, okay,
So that's why I don't think it's gonna happen.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Me neither. I don't. I just don't see it happening.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
So so toward that end, Todd Archer covers the Cowboys
used to for the Dallas Morning News and does for ESPN.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Now.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Open up his piece today with the question Who's to
blame for the Cowboys one and to start? According to
a fan poll conducted by WFATV, that's channel eight in Dallas,
he says, the answer is pretty clear among more than
seventy percent of the voters, it's Jerry Jones. They're not

(06:18):
blaming Mike McCarthy, No, Jerry is drawing it. And so
then he gets asked about it in his weekly visits
on the Shannon RJ Show. There on one five three
the Fan. His quote was, that's very fair. It's well
known that no decision is ultimately made here for what

(06:39):
I either have acquies two or approved it.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
That's very fair. How could you think otherwise?

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Whether it be who's out there coaching, whether it be
who's out there playing, whether it be in the stadium,
you're walking into whatever it is here.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
That's the way it is now.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
Let me just say this, do I have a huge
amount of input in making those decisions? When they done
their homework, they're very influential input me and we've got
a lot of people in.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
The Dallas Cowboys that have done their input. What does
that mean? And their input love Jerry speak. Justes love
Jerry speak.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
So he says it's fair for people to say, but
it doesn't matter. Look, I've been saying this for over
twenty years. It doesn't matter. He's going to own the
team and he's going to make the personnel decisions. He's

(07:34):
going to be the GM thing until he's no longer
mentally capable. Some people think he's not mentally capable now,
but I'm saying that that, you know, until he's completely
incapacitated or whatever or passes away, he's not going to
He's not going to relinquish that. So when I read
things on social media, it's.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Starting to fire the GM. He's not going to do it.
Stop it. He's not gonna do it. It's he's he's
in charge, it's his team.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
And look, if if you want to, I admire Cameron,
who has been a Cowboys fan his whole life, this
is as much about Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy, right,
It's it's the both of them and Stephen for the reasons,
this lifelong Cowboys fan, for whom his middle name is Dallas,

(08:29):
refuses to watch them right now because of those guys
and their decision making and things like that. So, you know,
for folks to say, well, he's got to stop, he's
got to quit, he's got to fire himself, he's not
going to do that, So you might as well forget
about that.

Speaker 2 (08:48):
He's not going to do it. He's uh. And the
sooner everybody accepts that, the better.

Speaker 1 (08:54):
But whether you want to remain a Cowboys fan or not,
I think what that is is Cam.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
I think that's.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Frustrated Cowboy fans like yourself, who are wanting so badly
for a change in direction and leadership of the franchise
and the ownership and coaching all of this kind of stuff,
and and maybe just not allowing themselves I'm not saying refusing,
but just not yet allowing themselves to accept the fact

(09:23):
that Jerry is going nowhere, He's going to stay there,
and he's going to do is you, on the other hand,
have accepted this fact and have moved on to And
I feel for you, and I feel for Cowboys fan. Look,
I went through a lot of lean years as a
Rams fan too, with some really bad ownership. There was
some bad There was a real bad ownership with the
Dodgers too for a long time, and and it and

(09:46):
it forced me to kind of more dispassionately hope for
them and cheer for them a little bit. But I
wasn't as bought into it as if I came later
once the ownership changed, I have to admit. And until
the Dodgers changed ownershi ship and got stand Cast and
Magic Johnson, all those people involved that turned in the
right direction, I had kind of become numb to it.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
And the same thing with the Rams.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
I know Stan Cronkey is hated by people in Saint
Louis and a lot of folks, but he put the
right management team in place. He put less sneed, and
he put all those other guys in place, and got
Sean McVay as his head coach and all that sort
of stuff. So he did do that. He he was
just the owner, whereas Jerry insists on being the owner

(10:30):
and the GM and the chief cook and bottle washer
and everything all that other kind of stuff.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
And you can see the results on the field. And
not even just Jerry, it's also Stephen Jones. I think,
you know, reading between the lines this season, I think
Stephen Jones has his fingerprints more in this team than
a lot of Cowboys fans. I think you're right to stand. Yeah,
And even after Jerry, Steven will still be in charge
and he's not going anywhere. So it's gonna have it's

(10:54):
going to have to be a complete change in how
the Cowboys think and operate and build the bullet team
because it's not working. It's not working. I mean it's Hey,
we already had Week four and it's a must win
game against the New York giants.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Who would have thought that. I mean, I did, but
who would have thought that.

Speaker 1 (11:12):
Well, I'll say this too, and I don't wish Ill
Will on the Cowboys. I covered them for years when
I was up there. I did Jimmy Johnson's weekly radio show.
I did Jerry's weekly radio show.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
I did that.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
I did the daily thing with Janovichik when he was playing,
you know, during those glory years and all that, kind
of did a daily thing with herschel Walker when he
was playing for them.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
I wish them no Ill Will.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
It's just it's difficult to watch them and see them
and see the fans agonize and go through all this.
But I'm here to tell you this too. And I
think fans know this, even the ones who are most frustrated.
I think they know this. As long as they're paying
the money they're paying for those season tickets, as long

(12:01):
as they're paying for those twenty nine dollars party passes,
standing room only standing at the end of the last
weekend to watch that, they're paying that to stand and
watch that, As long as they're paying.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Twelve fifty for a chicken sand.

Speaker 1 (12:19):
Well, it is a chicken sandwich is as long as
they're paying that kind of stuff here, don't care. It's
not going to change because the money's coming in and
things all right. And he can continue to say and
you can tell Jerry isn't bothered by what people, you know,
I reporters ask him stuff. I have rarely, rarely seen

(12:43):
Jerry Bristol at a reporter, rarely a little bit here
and there, but rarely seeing him bristle report. Not like
you know, McCarthy. I can see where coaches are going
to start, you know, getting antsy. Jimmy Johnson used to
even the best of time, of all those Cowboys coaches,
maybe not Jason Garrett much.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
I didn't. I don't think that's so much in his DNA.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Tom Landry never did obviously, but uh but Jerry doesn't bother.
He'll he'll say, well that's fair, and and then and
then go on. So that's that's the hard thing. I
completely understand this. That's the hard thing for Cowboy fans
to understand or accept. Maybe they understand it, just don't

(13:26):
want to accept it and are raging against the machine
that I get it. I understand, and I do feel
feel for you in that respect.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
And I've been pretty vocal with my distaste for Mike McCarthy,
the front office, Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones. They have set
up McCarthy and Mike Simmer for failure this year.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
Meanwhile, did you did you happen to see Dan Quinn's
team last night?

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Looked good?

Speaker 1 (13:52):
Yeah, he's got Cliff Kingsbury calling place, and their defense
looks pretty good and their offense looks good with Jayden Daniels.
So yeah, that's just probably even more salt in the wounds,
especially because it's Washington involved. The Cowboys will have their

(14:14):
opportunity against the Commanders. They get two cracks at them.
We'll see, all right, coming up, we're gonna hear from
Long Orange's linebacker Leonga Lafowl.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
We'll hear from him.

Speaker 1 (14:25):
We do have inconceivable this hour beyond anything Cowboys related.
We have inconceivable, Like I said in the three o'clock hour. Also,
