Speaker 1 (00:00):
A guy who is not a native of the state
of Texas. He's from the fiftieth state in the United States. Leongolfoul,
the long orange linebacker from Hawaii, has really been on
a roll of late and it kind of has Crescendoed
had a couple of big tackles last week, a couple

(00:21):
of big sacks, and also had the tackle in the
end zone for a safety. He's a guy who has
just kind of steadily gotten better and better. And he
also was asked about the Polynesian brotherhood in the back
ground that he has with his teammates.

Speaker 2 (00:43):
But like Polynesian people, I mean, it's been huge to have.
You know, last year when I first came in, it
was only me and then Talciti came and then this
offseason we added a few others. So that's that's part
of us now. And then we have coach Naci in
the Plonies and coach as well, So it's good to
have a nice still Ponies commuit out here, and you know,
just not only that, but also just show our teammates

(01:06):
our culture and you know, how we are just Polynesians
in general, how we we can bring our culture to
you know, help our team you know it.

Speaker 1 (01:16):
It adds new meaning to the word culture when you
talking about the Polynesian culture. The question is he close
with some other Hawaiians or Polynesians who play other varsity
sports at Utube.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
So, me and Tasili we grew up in la together
on Oahu, so we know each other like our whole life.
So I'm well, I'm not too close with his sister too,
because she's on that team. And then there's now there's
three volleyball girls from boy and me and Talsili, so
we're all pretty close because you know, it's just the
Hawaiian kids out here going to college together, so we

(01:53):
all know each other. We all talk here and there.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
So yeah, okay, so that adds to it as well.
And then a couple other points from the a couple
other points from Leonga lafoul and what he has seen.
There's been a lot of folks that that have asked

(02:17):
him and and Sark has been asked this quite a
bit about the effect that Johnny Nansen has had on
the defense since coming over from Arizona. So he was asked,
is this style of defense that he's playing similar to
the one that he grew up playing in Hawaii, I.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Would say yes. But like also, coach Show did a
good job well because he coached a lot of politicians too,
so they understand like how players are, Like it's big
on when it cost to culture. We're big on like
love and respect and you know, just treat everyone how
you want to face that kind of stuff. So and

(03:04):
that's it. He's a he's a Polysian too, so he
obviously understands it. So I mean growing up, that's always
how I was taught. Our coaches were always just they
loved us beyond the game. So that's how coach Nason,
not only him, that's how our whole coaching staff really
is with us.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
Yeah, and then it is by natural extension and progression
then that you would expect him to have a really
good view of sarks relationship with the Polynesian players.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
They do a good job of recruiting, like when it
comes upon theasing players because they understand a culture a lot,
so you know where they know we're not big on
like the flashy things or all that stuff. We're more
of like we want to see like how real the
people really are and how much they really care for us.
And once we get that connection, then it's easy for
us to come out here and you know, play our

(03:54):
hardest play, do do what you guys want us to do,
if we know that you guys love us and you
guys really care for us.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Yeah, so some good offerings there from Leonga Lafoul who
is playing really well rotating in in that linebacker spot
for Texas. We'll be back to wrap up our number
two of the program here on sports Radio AM thirteen
under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
