Speaker 3 (00:19):
Coming up in a few minutes, we'll bring you our
DJC law injury update. But let's get to Long Horn's
head coach Steve sarkism by the way, Rangers in a
scoreless Oakland with the bases loaded, batting in the bottom
of the third inning on the final day ever at
Oco Coliseum in the place is jam packed. It is
(00:41):
a sellout. Every seat has been taken. So it's the
final game ever to be played there. And they are
scoreless right now in the bottom half of the third inning,
and I believe there's nobody out in the game. So
Oakland's got something going here in this final game ever
at the Oakland Coliseum. Okay, with regard to the Loghorns
(01:05):
head coach Steve Sarkaishan holds his final media availability of
the week on Thursday mornings. It is the media assumed
that he does with both the local and national media.
So some comments from coach Stark. Coach Sark here to
get this thing going, starting with his opening statement.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
First of all, I know for Longhorn Nation for our fans,
this exciting week for us, you know, first inaugural SEC
game here at dk R, and so I know, from
a fans perspective, our supporters perspective, that's an exciting week.
I think the beauty for us has been we haven't changed,
(01:46):
you know, our preparation, the way we've prepared now for
the for the.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
First four weeks of the season.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
We've remained very consistent this week, which I think is
a great thing. I think the coaches messaging has been consistent.
I think the leadership has been consistent by the older
players on the team, and the result of that has been,
you know, again, we've practiced well. I think we've got
a really good understanding of what we're trying to do
Saturday and now over the next you know, forty eight
(02:11):
hours or so, getting ourselves in the right frame of mind,
making sure that we're covering proper, recovering properly so that
we can put our best foot forward and play good
football Saturday.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
All right.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
So then the question started, and you might have managed
to start with the injuries, especially this running back position
being as banged up as it has been, and he
was asked if he can recall a time where one
specific position was ever this banged up as it is
right now in Texas.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
I don't know if I've had the amount of injuries
that we've had, you know, and and you know, I've
been fortunate in my career. You guys know, I've had
a thousand yard rusher everywhere we've gone, and that that
just there's a that's a byproduct of a lot of things,
but also that one of those things is health. Right
that that runner had never had to endure any significant
(02:59):
injury that way.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
But every year, every team, you injuries.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
Happen and you don't know when, you don't know how,
you don't know what. And so the point of that
being is you got to keep trying to prepare the
other guys to play. And so this stuff really isn't
that new naturally. You know, with Christian and CJ. They
got hurt in camp, and so we've been kind of planning,
and to think that we were just going to go
through a season and not have any bumps and bruises,
(03:28):
that probably wouldn't be realistic. So we believe we've got
a good plan. We believe that you know, the guys
that go in can execute and play at a high level.
And so we're just going to continue to try to
develop those guys, and I feel like we're gonna be okay.
Speaker 3 (03:41):
Okay sing guy that asked them that question, I think
was Aeric Henry who did that, asked him about the
fact that Andre three thousand visited the Texas campus. Now,
if you don't know who Andre three thousand is certainly understandable.
But if you were a fan of pop music right outcast,
right of course, yeah, so you know he visited the
(04:05):
other pictures with sar Sart was and sark was asked, hey, look,
you know what up with Andre three thousand? How that
come about? Andre three thousand?
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Exactly why he was in Austin, I don't know, But
what I do know is, uh, I spent a lot
of days in college listening to outcasts and uh and
you know till you till you go look how many
great songs they had that we probably all listened to
and forgot that that was them And as soon as
it comes on and like.
Speaker 2 (04:36):
That, oh I got it.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
But what was unique about very bright man, super articulate
and very you know you. We asked a couple of
questions just about excellence and different things, and his his
answers were were beautiful and so uh, it was an
honor to meet him.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
You know, We'll see, uh, we'll.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
See if we convert him from the uh Georgia to
the old Texas Longhorns here.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
But it was great to meet.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
Him, you know, And that's one of the beauties of
being here. You know, there's so many great artists and
talented people that come through Austin now, especially with Moody
being across the street, that if one of the things
they'd like to do is tour the football facility and
meet some of our guys, we're generally more than happy
to accommodate him.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Did you send an underhead of concert here? What I mean?
His outcast even still together and they still thingers. He's solo.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
He's solo, and he's kind of gotten out of the
hip hop game. He played at Aco Live earlier. I
think it is Monday night, the twenty second, so okay,
four days ago, so he's a different phase of his career.
But man, it was awesome to see him walking around
dk R.
Speaker 3 (05:41):
Coach Stark Okay, back to the running back thing, and
Sark was as how does the team practice it running
back being down on the numbers.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
We practiced like we normally do.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Yeah, that was a very quick thing, practice like it
normally did. All right, So with how well the team
is playing right now, I think it was our friend
Kirk Boles asked this question, does he has to does
Sark have to make up things, invent things to get
mad is at his team about does he have to
(06:17):
create some of that artificial motivation? And then Kirk followed
up his Quinn going to be starting on Saturday? So
was he following it up with that?
Speaker 4 (06:27):
I wouldn't know if I've ever not gotten mad about stuff,
but you probably have to ask the coaches and the
players that you know, there's always stuff. There's a million
things that that we that I want to get better
at and get right, and you know, even a lot
of times, you know the result of the play is
a touchdown, but I see the left guard getting beat,
(06:48):
or I see the other receiver run the wrong route,
or I see the running back not pick up the protection, and.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Everybody else is cheering, and I'm kind.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Of still upset that we didn't do something correctly on
the play. So I don't ever have a problem of
finding areas for us to improve upon. It's just a
matter of how much do I, uh do I exude
that type of energy as opposed to celebrating a couple
of guys that did do it right on the play. So, okay,
we're gonna you know, we're gonna decide on the quarterback
(07:16):
thing tomorrow. And again it won't be a secret. You
know that we're not trying to We're not trying to
pull the wool over anybody's eyes. I want to give
Quinn every opportunity to see if he's ready to play
and what he looks like. But I'd say he's improved
every day. I think Arch has had a very good week,
and I would say this Trey Owens probably had his
best practice as a longhorn today, so that that was
(07:37):
really encouraging as well.
Speaker 2 (07:39):
Interesting.
Speaker 3 (07:39):
Okay, all right, and then one more for this hour
and then we'll hear some more from Sark next hour.
We uh we talked about the story yesterday, uh uh
that what's going on at un l V with our
quarterback leaving because he said that the one hundred thousand
dollars he was probablysed from the coaching staff was never delivered.
(08:04):
Then Barry Odom, the head coach, said the promise didn't
come from me, therefore it was not a legitimate offer.
And so it was going on back and forth as
to you know, who promised what and why he was
leaving the team. And what Sark was asked is how
can a football team avoid this situation? You know, they
(08:27):
were asking him and saying, well, I'm sure you're familiar
with it.
Speaker 2 (08:29):
You know. The one thing you don't want to do.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Really usually is ask a head coach how familiar he
is about something that's going on in another part of
the country with another college football team during the season,
because unless the school is on his schedule or even
in his league, he's probably not devoting an awful lot
of time and energy to that because you're trying to
(08:52):
get a football team ready to play. But nevertheless, he
was asked about the UNLV situation and making promise to
how to avoid things like that.
Speaker 4 (09:01):
Well, I mean, I think ultimately it's when you make
an agreement, you have to follow through.
Speaker 2 (09:06):
Again, I don't know specifics.
Speaker 4 (09:08):
I think you know whenever agreements are made, but I
don't even care if we go to revenue sharing, whatever
it is you have to follow through and you know,
and and that's both parties you know this day and
age of you agree to something and then you feel
like you're playing better than what your value is. You
just don't get to take your ball and go home.
It doesn't work like that. And so I think that's
(09:28):
some of the growing pains we're going to go through here,
especially when we get into revenue sharing, of understanding that
contracts are there, and they're there for a reason as
we grow whatever that contract is, and if if you
do well, then potentially you could earn more as you
get into that revenue sharing. So again, I don't know
all the specifics of exactly what happened there, and I'm
not going to pretend to. I've got enough stuff on
(09:50):
my plate that I got to deal with. But the
point being is like, whatever you agree to, you got
to follow through and that I don't I don't care
if that that's your that's a relationship, that whatever it is.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
Like, if you agree to something, you got to follow
through with it. And you know, it sounds like one.
Speaker 4 (10:06):
Of those parties, one of the two parties involved, didn't
follow through with their side of the deal.
Speaker 3 (10:10):
All right, So that's about as much as he wanted
to say with regard to that, and that's the very
unpleasant situation has drawn a lot of comments and a
lot of commentary these days. Coming up, Speaking of quarterbacks,
there'll be another Thrust and Perry another point counterpoint with
(10:33):
regard to a quarterback who has already left and is
playing well at another institution.
Speaker 2 (10:37):
We'll tell you about that.
Speaker 3 (10:39):
Also, we'll bring you our DJC law injury update, let
you know in specific what the Longhorns are looking at
in terms of the injury report this week. So we'll
do all that and more as we continue here on
a Thursday afternoon on sports Radio AM thirteen under the
Zone and where you can always listen to us for
free on the iHeartRadio app.
