Speaker 1 (00:00):
College football this week, and we talked about the matchup
earlier with Texas and Mississippi State. One more conversation we've
been bringing you the ones with Will Matthews, our long
Orange sideline reporter, and earlier we heard his conversations with
John Tate Cook and Baron Serell and also Jake Majors.
And one more conversation with a guy who made a
(00:21):
big impact with his return to the lineup Saturday last
Saturday Night with four touchdowns, three rushing, one receiving one
hundred and twenty four rushing yards. Jaden Blue, the long
Horne is running back visiting with our Will Matthews being.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
A running back and kind of knowing that when you
get carries, it just feeds that fire. Yeah, Saturday, you
got more Carris than you had I think in the
twenties above the twenties, and I just saw you get
stronger and stronger and stronger and stronger.
Speaker 3 (00:52):
Tell me about that. How's it feel? So just get it?
Speaker 4 (00:55):
A lot of it starts with the weight and the
muscle Dove put on going into this year.
Speaker 5 (01:00):
You know, I know I had to.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
Gain more muscle in order to carry the ball. Twenty
twenty five times. That was something I put a big
instance I'm going into this year, and you know, I think.
Speaker 5 (01:09):
A lot of it has to do with Coach Choice.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
You know, he pushes me day in the day out
to push He pushes me to my limit to make
sure that if I do have to carry.
Speaker 5 (01:16):
The ball twenty twenty five.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Times, then I had the their ability to do it.
And I think a lot of that show Saurday.
Speaker 3 (01:23):
Coach talk about the relationship with Coach Schoryce.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
I have seen how he gets on you and how
he gets on the whole team, all the running backs
from that room.
Speaker 3 (01:30):
But there's so much love there even in that talk
about that.
Speaker 4 (01:34):
Yeah, man, Coach Choice is probably one of my favorite
guys on one of my probably deep my favorite coach
on the team.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
You know, he's not only the.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
Football area, but he cares about you off the field,
and I have a super tighter relationship with him.
Speaker 5 (01:46):
I think he's a guy that you.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
Know, if I'm going through something off the field, that
he's one call away or he could be there with
me and I could we could relate to him as
players because he's he's played at this level, so you know,
I think he's just he's a excell saying he never
you know, he's always finding something for us to work on.
No matter if we do something good, we always finds
an area that we can prove. And I think that's
(02:09):
probably why he's one of the best coaches in the country.
Speaker 3 (02:11):
Him being the best coach in the country.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
And you sitting, you know, behind Bijon and Roshan and
waiting your turn. How hard is it to wait your
turn even though you're getting the greatest advice and mentorship ever,
I mean, but still sitting waiting to do your thing.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
Yeah, of course it's it's It was very hard because
I was highly recruited coming out of high school, so
you know, it was hard for me having to sit,
but it was it was a learning experience at the
same time.
Speaker 5 (02:36):
But luckily, the good thing is I sat.
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Behind, you know, two guys that have been to the
that as playing in the NFL now, and those guys
set the standard in this room. And those are I
think two guys that did things the right way. So
for me, you know, to be in that room with
those two, it was a blessing. And you know, they
they taught me some things that you know that I
could probably take on the rest of my life.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
So feels like we're starting to talk about legacy. What
those guys left to you, what was left in that room.
But I asked, what would you like to leave in
that room? What would you like to be known for?
Speaker 4 (03:10):
H man, I just want to be known for the
guy that you know that just does everything right and
that he will contribute to the team. And you know,
I think the main thing is I'm just trying to
do whatever's best, you know, for the team and to
help out go, which is you know, to win the
national championship. And you know me, I just you know,
try to find things to work on every day and
(03:31):
try to get better.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Coach Stark was talking about you in the pressor really
and he said that you said there were more for
you to do.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
When you talk about that, why are you so hungry
to continue.
Speaker 5 (03:40):
To get better? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (03:41):
Man, I feel like whatever I did isn't enough even
you know, a lot of people see that I scored
for touchdowns Saturday and had one hundred and twenty seven yards.
But when I watched the film, I didn't look at
the good players, you know, I looked at the things
that I can prove on or I've seen that I left,
you know, a lot of yards out there, some balls
that I normally catch, So you know, me just watching that,
(04:03):
it just shows, you know, the potential or if I
do get those things right, how dangerous I could be.
So you know, it's just just me, you know, want
to get better every day.
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Last question, looking back over this season and even this
last game, I've got a couple of favorite players I've
seen you do, but I'd love.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
To hear what's your favorite play that maybe that's a touchdown,
maybe that's a catch, or just something that maybe it's
even from some of your other teammates, or for what's
your favorite play this season?
Speaker 3 (04:36):
I have too.
Speaker 4 (04:37):
I'll say the catch the Washington game was probably one
of my favorite.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
And then I'll say the.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
Run I had right here on the two yard line.
It just shows you know, maybe last year or the
year before, I probably don't score that, and it just
shows the fight and.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
The muscle that I put on going into.
Speaker 4 (04:56):
This year, and it just shows that, you know, I'm
a different I'm a different guy. So you know that
was probably one of my favorite players because I think
it just it just shows the fight that I have.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Well, thank you so much for your time. We're seeing
the fight.
Speaker 5 (05:09):
I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah, I'm looking to continue the fight there. And it's funny.
I followed Jaden Blue's career for several years now, going
back to his time at Kleine Kane, and it was
a little bit a little bit controversial when he decided
to skip his senior year of high school. And he
(05:32):
had already committed to Texas and decided to skip his
senior year of high school. And there aren't many who
do it now It's become a little more commonplace when
guys if they get banged up to go ahead, and
I mean Quinn, you weers obviously, but I remember that
it raised a buzz and it raised the eyebrows or
(05:54):
something like that. And can you imagine if Quinn had
Maine with his original commitment to Texas, and you would
had Quinn and Jane Blue Bow skipping their senior year's
high school, it really would have drawn a lot of intention.
Of course, Quinn had ended up switching his commitment, ended
up going to Ohio State. I think he got in
(06:14):
aholl of four plays, it was a red shirt year,
and then transferred in whereas Blue went ahead and went
through with the commitment, signed with Texas, came to Texas
and had taken that year off. But even after taking
that year off camp, it took him a little while.
Obviously he was coming in behind Bjeon Robinson and Roe
Shawn Johnson when he first came in to learn a lot,
(06:35):
and he said he'd learned an awful lot and it's
really paying dividends now.
Speaker 7 (06:38):
Yeah, different factors for both guys. Remember, I think Quinn
yours he got banged up in spring ball at Ohio,
so and of course he had an injury at South
Lake Carrol, so he was already, you know, kind of
fighting to stay healthy by the time he got up
to Columbus, then comes to Texas, and then we've covered
his story where he's kind of grown up both on
the field and off the field. Jay Blue's story was
interesting because when he announced he was skipping his senior season,
(07:01):
he got a lot of flak from people in the media,
got a lot of flack even from some Texas fans
and even not Texas fans criticizing him. He dropped down
the recruiting rankings for some reason. I don't know if
he went from a five star to a four star
or a four to a three star. Someone else probably
knows by the medew but I know he dropped down
his personal recruiting is his number because he was sitting
(07:22):
out his senior season, which and now here we are
having his best year yet, and we know it had
no factor at all. In fact, we probably might see
it happen more and more because if a kid gets
hurt his final season, I look too. I look at
Malachi Nelson, the Boise State quarterback who was at USC.
He suffered debilitating injury his senior year of high school
(07:46):
with a shoulder injury, decided not to get surgery on it,
tried to play through it, gets to USC, gets beat out,
then decides to transfer the Boise State where he's gotten
beat out this year, and it's because he really hasn't
healed from that injury. Now, if he sits out as
senior season, he might be the starting quarterback at USC.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
He might not.
Speaker 7 (08:03):
But people complain about what happens when they sit out,
but then what happens when they don't sit out and
they have an injury. So I understand both sides.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
Yeah, yeah, it does, and like you said, it's perhaps
become a little more commonplace to see it now at
high school football level. And I know that doesn't sit
well with Texas high school football coaches certainly, and probably
not high school football coaches across the country. But it
has been a little more, you might say, a little
(08:30):
more commonplace than it has been in the past. All Right,
we'll be back to wrap up today's program and wrap
up the week getting you ready for Texas and Mississippi
State and a weekend of football and baseball and more
