Speaker 1 (00:00):
Glad to have you with us here on a Monday afternoon,
our long WRNS Monday presentation here on sports Radio AM
thirteen hundred The Zone. My name is Craig Way. Glad
to have you with us. Alongside of the producer Cameron Parker.
Long Worn's Monday encompasses the live broadcast of head coach
Steve Sarkisian's weekly Monday news conference. We brought that to
you this morning at eleven thirty, and just so you'll know,

(00:22):
we actually begin our coverage at eleven am. My cardboll
Harge joins me as well, and we have analysis of
the game just included. We hear from long Worn players
all of that in the run up to the start
of the press conference itself, which is every Monday at
eleven thirty.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
So we bring that to you in its entirety.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
You hear it in its complete, unedited long form fashion,
but we do bring you all of his comments from
that news conference here during this program. All we do
is just paraphrase the questions that come from the media,
but we bring you all of Sark's comments from the
news conference during this program every Monday as part of

(01:03):
our Longhorns Monday. So just to let you know we've
got that and we'll have more from start coming up.
Also keeping updated on the NATIONALAUE wild card situation. They
are completing the regular season of Major League Baseball in
Atlanta today. The Wednesday and Thursday games that were scheduled
to be played in Atlanta between the Braves and Mets

(01:25):
both rained outs and Major League Baseball at that time
of the double Rainouts said these games will be made
up on Monday if they become necessary.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
With regard to Arizona's efforts.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
To try to reach the postseason, well, they became necessary
because neither the Mets nor Braves could sweep their opponents
over the weekend. The Braves won two out of three,
but lost yesterday to the Kansas City Royals, and as
a result of that, not only did it put at
Lanta in the in the double header to day to

(02:02):
have to play, but also it moved the Royals up
one spot in the American League wild card hierarchy from
the from the sixth seed to the five seed, and
it dropped the Tigers, who lost to the White Sox.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
White Sox ended up winning two out of.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
The three games in the in the series to conclude
the season and in Detroit and they won two out
of three. So as a result of that, the Tigers
fell from the five seed to the sixth seed. The
significance of that, instead of playing Baltimore in the wildcard run,

(02:42):
they have to come to Houston and play the Astros.
Whi's gonna be a tough assignment. See, I think it's
a flipped scenario in the National League camp. I think
whoever is the five seed actually has a tougher draw
because they're gonna have to go to San Diego and
play the Patres. Which also makes it kind of weird.
The Dodgers are the one seed and they played the
winner that four or five, and they lost the season

(03:03):
series to San Diego.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
So the reward for having.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Home field advantage all throughout the playoffs would be in
the one season, you might have to play the tougher opponent.
But that's the way it would work. Once the brackets
are drawn up, they do not change the bracket. You know,
with regard only the NFL is the one who literally
or figuratively anyway moves the goalpost, so to speak. They
they the highest remaining seed. Thing that does not happen

(03:27):
in the NBA, and that does not happen in Major
League Baseball.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
So that's how it is. So if.

Speaker 1 (03:36):
The Mets win this game, they would go to San Diego,
Arizona would get in. They'd be the sixth see and
go to Milwaukee, where they won last year in the
Wildcard round. Then they win the Los Angeles, they beat
the Dodgers in the division Series, then they beat the
Phillies in the Nationalague Championship Series before the Rangers took
them out in the World Series. But if the Braves win,
they go in. They're automatically the five seed because they

(03:58):
hold the tiebreaker on the the and the Diamondbacks.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Diamondbacks would be out.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
The Mets clinched the spot by winning that first game
dramatically eight to seven today in Atlanta. So as it
stands right now, it's scoreless top of the second inning.
If the Mets win, Braves are out. New York would
be the five seed, Arizona would be the sixth seed.
If the Braves win, then they wind up splitting the doubleheader,

(04:24):
the Diamondbacks would be out, the Braves would be the
five seed, and the Mets would be the sixth. So
there it is right now. All right, the questions from
the text line. Somebody said, do athletes at service academies
receive NIL?

Speaker 3 (04:41):
I don't think so, because technically they're considered employees from
the US government. Yeah, so from my understanding that if
you're at Air Force, Army, Navy, you cannot receive an
NIL deal because you're considered an employee of the US government.

Speaker 2 (04:55):
That is correct.

Speaker 3 (04:55):
Because when the NFL, when the NCAA football game came out,
and you know how certain players could get up and
get paid. Remember arts Man didn't opt in at first
and then decided to They can't opt in and they
can't receive any money from it. So on I'm assuming
you cannot. Yeah, all right, so there's your answer to that.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Somebody the else pointed said that the Major League Baseball
scenario today is almost exactly the same of what happened
a couple of years ago in the NFL. Remember, and
I remember this, when the Chargers and Raiders played on
Sunday night as the last game of the regular season,
and whichever team won that game would be in the
Wild Card and the Steelers, who won earlier that they
would get in as well. But if the Chargers and

(05:39):
Raiders tied, both would get in and the Steelers would
be out. Then Brandon Staley made some dumb coaching decisions
as he does, and the Raiders won and the Steelers
got in.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
That's true, So there it is.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
Uh okay, So George said that Bryce Elderwood pitched it.
If he does, George would be out of the bullpen.
He did not start for Atlanta uh in game two
of that. So that's where.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Then you remember we start off. I was just asking
about your.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Just asking you about your weekend and watching the President's
cop It's always gonna get somebody worked up. See pow,
Come on, man, He said, what is what the heck
is a President's Cup?

Speaker 3 (06:17):
You know, I'm not sure anyone else besides you and
me were aware that was going on this weekend.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Oh oh no, I'll tell you who was aware of it.
My older brother, who was really upset. He's a motorsports
fan and he wanted to leap into the coverage of NASCAR.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
Yeah, he wasn't happy at all. I think his words were,
what the hell is the President's Cup?

Speaker 2 (06:35):
I think is what he said.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
He said, reason for me to hate golf all the more.
I think was the way he described it, so you
know whatever, all right, So we'll keep you update.

Speaker 2 (06:46):
They're going to the bottom of the second inning.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Now that the game in Atlanta, Braves and Mets are
scoreless in that one. Look, we're gonna keep people updated on.
Are you planning to watch the uh Monday night double
aheader tonight?

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Maybe not watching Titans Dolphins?

Speaker 3 (07:03):
Yeah, I don't think I want to watch Will Levis
against Dolphins. Yeah, it's somebody Thompson, it's up, it's coming
to me. He played Tyler Huntly. Yes, yeah, yeah, that's good.
You put put that on ESPN two. Actually wait at
ESPN plus, We're good. Yeah, put it on the show.

(07:24):
But I am excited for Seahawks and Lions. I have
Jamara Gibbs. I need eleven Fantasy points to win, so
he's gonna get nine points.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
That's all I've got David Montgomery, so we're probably both
wind up splitting it in neither of us getting exactly
what we want in order to win.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
But I'll be a fun game. Seattle three.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
Now can they join the other two four and oh
teams and can Detroit take down It's it's a Seahawks
team I believe will be without four defensive starters, including
Byron Murphy the Knight. So Mike MacDonald Seahawks coach, done
a fantastic job. But they might be in trouble tonight
because of all the injuries and they're pretty banged up
on the inside the ball.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
But it should be a fun game. Yeah, all right,
we'll see how all that rolls out tonight.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
All right, up next, we're gonna hear more from Loggorn's
head coach, Deeve Sarcasian from the weekly news conference when
we continue on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone
of the iHeartRadio app.
