Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good afternoon, everybody. Welcome to the program here on Sports
Radio A. I'm thirteen hundred the Zone on this Tuesday afternoon.
My name is Craig Way. Glad to have you with us,
and joined as always by the producer Cameron D.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Parker.
Speaker 1 (00:12):
The D and Laburth certificate stands for Dallas, as in
his favorite pro football team that he has deemed unwatchable
in his eyes, so he's not going to watch them
until they and unless reached the NFC Championship game. So
the D has to stand for something else, maybe dethroned
(00:33):
since the Texas Rangers now officially are no longer the
defending world champions since the playoffs has begun and they
cannot defend the title any longer.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Yeah, they're just the twenty three world champions now.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
Yeah, it's still the most recent one, most recent world
champions and that pain will be a little less hurtful
if the Detroit Tigers can go ahead and win this
game and maybe win tomorrow, we'll be okay.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Years shot in freud isn't overdrive as it is for
many Ranger fans whenever the Astros are playing. And I
remember last year during the playoffs in the World Series.
How the Astros fans were rising up rooting for the
Diamondbacks or the teams that were playing after the Astros
(01:22):
lost to the Rangers. So I won't keep you in
suspense any longer. The Astros and Detroit Tigers are underway
and game one of their Wild Cards Series. Here's the
good news for Astros fans. The Tigers pitcher Scuball, who
won the Triple Crown of pitching wins strikeout cra may
(01:44):
have to leave the game.
Speaker 2 (01:45):
He'd been controlling.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
He set the Astros down in order in the first,
got the first out in the second, and took a
line shot that bounced in and hit him in the hand,
and he threw to first to get the wrong out.
So he's retired the first five batters he's faced.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
However, training staff is out there with him.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
They're gonna look at it and see and it was
just a wicked one hopper and I believe I'm not
sure off of whose bat that was, but it hit
him pretty squarely.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Uh been, You're done?
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah, And he recovered Scoo ball did to throw the
first to get himut, and they're gonna let him have
I think a warm up toss or too. But anyway, meanwhile,
the Detroit ta here's the bad news. The Troy Tiger
scored three runs off from her Valdez in the top
of the second inning, including three consecutive two out hits,
and so now Detroit is up three to nothink Scooball,
(02:44):
by the way, is staying in there, and he just
threw a pitch for a strike to Jeremy Pania, So
we'll see if it affects him, but right now he
looks like he's okay again. So Game one of that
American League Wild Cards and the Tigers have jumped on
the Astros three to nothing as Houston bats in the
(03:05):
bottom half of the second game.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
We'll keep you posted on that one.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
The second day game starts in about an hour and
that's in Baltimore where the Orioles will host the Kansas
City Royals. Game one of that later this afternoon Game
one of the National League Wildcard series in Milwaukee between
the Brewers and the New York Mets. And tonight is
Game one of that Wildcard series between the San Diego
(03:29):
Potters and the Atlanta Braves. That after the craziness that
happened yesterday, speaking of baseball coming up in the four
o'clock hour, we'll visit with Geene Watson, our baseball insider,
our MLSB baseball insider.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
By the way, Scoo Bold does look okay.
Speaker 1 (03:48):
He just set the Astros down an order again in
the second, so they're going to the third with a
three to nothing Detroit Lee. So Geene Watson will join
us in the four o'clock hour. We always get his
annual predictions on the postseason, even though Game one here
between Detroit and Houston might already be in the books
by then, but I've been kind of given a preview,
(04:08):
so this is his predictions are official. So Gina will
join us in the four o'clock hour. Three o'clock hour.
This being a Texas Tuesday and a Texans or a
Texan Tuesday. The reason why it's Texan is because Cam
Parker rolls back with the return cuts out of breaks
from some Texas musical artist and in some cases legends
(04:31):
and in other cases icons. For example, Stevie Ray, the
late Stevie Ray Vaughn. We hear from him in the
two o'clock hour. We hear from the iconic Willie Nelson
in the three o'clock hour and the King George straight
in the four o'clock hour. We hear those. So that's
what I mean by Texan Tuesday. But it's a Texas Tuesday.
(04:53):
Normally we hear from long worn football players during this
time of year on a Texas Tuesday, but this being
an open date on the schedule a bye week, there
are no media availabilities involving long wrn football players. And
we heard some from Loghorn's head coach Steve Sarkeishan yesterday
from his news conference. We've got a few more cuts
(05:15):
from him to let you hear some thoughts from him
on a couple of players in specific. But also it's
a Texas basketball Tuesday. In this case, Loghorns had an
open session their last old forty to forty five minutes
of their practice this morning over at Moody Center, open
to the media. They came over and then Rodney Terry,
(05:37):
long Horn's head coach, addressed the media afterwards on the
progress of the team. Their season opener comes up one
month and two days one month and three days from today,
November fourth, in Las Vegas against Ohio State at the
Team Oble Arena. So we'll hear from Rodney Terry coming
(05:57):
up and that will be coming up here as well
this afternoon. And back to football every Tuesday on a
Texas Tuesday, we talked football in the state of Texas,
both at the collegiate and high school levels with Greg Temper,
managing editor of Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine, and temp
(06:19):
will join us in the three o'clock hours he does
every Tuesday and we'll get his thoughts on the college
football It just took places past weekend, what's to come
this week and also some big high school matchups as well,
So that's that is all coming up.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
Did you watch some Monday night football last No?
Speaker 3 (06:36):
You?
Speaker 2 (06:37):
What did you do last night? Hurt yourself? I heard
you morning? That was this morning?
Speaker 3 (06:41):
Last I know I did. I did watch Inday night
football this morning. I hurt myself doing what weightlifting?
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (06:49):
I'm not doing too good today, Craig. We're put too
much on the bar, did you? Yep, just a little bit.
Didn't have somebody to spot for you. Bad form hurt
you back?
Speaker 2 (07:00):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (07:01):
Yeah, Well, hopefully it doesn't last too too long. Hopefully
things will be okay. But ouch, why couldn't you just
stick to basketball on Mondays. Then that was that was
relatively less harmful. Yeah, right after this may just that
might just be the move going forward.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
Okay, all right, all right, all right, so you did
watch you did watch them football?
Speaker 3 (07:27):
Yeah, there there was no defense in that Seattle Detroit game.
Speaker 2 (07:32):
What a fun back, very offense in the other game. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (07:35):
I did not watch a single snap of Tennessee Miami,
thank you, no sir, no interest whatsoever. But Detroit Seattle
delivered in I mean Geno Smith, who of course we
got the cement West Virginia. I mean he threw from
with six hundred passing yards. He was setting all kind
of personal records last night against Detroit. But just a
(07:57):
couple bad turnovers. And really Seattle, who was missing four
starters going into that game and then I think they
lost two more during the game, just could not find
a way to really stop the Detroit defense except for
Detroit othink, except when Jared Goff was taking safeties in
his own end zone.
Speaker 2 (08:14):
So a fun game though.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
But if you're I mean, if you're a Lions fan,
you feel good about this team going forward?
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Did you get enough points out of Jami or Gibbs
wind or going I know.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
I'm sure you did too it, David mint Count, I
didn't know. Well, I had too much ground to make up.
Oh he did well for me, but it wasn't quite enough.
Speaker 1 (08:33):
Put it this way, I went from getting blown out
to respectably losing.
Speaker 2 (08:37):
So my first loss.
Speaker 1 (08:39):
But yeah, I thought about you when I saw Gibbs
score the second touchdown, thought I.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
Can't might have got enough to win his game.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
Yep, that second touchdown just put me over and good,
we'll too good.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
All right.
Speaker 1 (08:51):
Coming up, we're gonna hear more from Logrorn's head coach,
Steve Sarkisian. We'll hear from him. We're gonna hear from
Rodney Terry, Texas men's basketball coach this afternoon. We do
have inconceivable coming up this hour. We'll have that Greg
Tepper from Dave Campbell's Texas Football magazine next hour and
Gene Watson our MLB Insider with the postseason preview. It
(09:12):
is still three nothing Detroit. The Tigers have a runner
at third with two down in the top of the
third inning. As Fromer, Valdez has struggled a bit. He's
had fifty pitches working in the top of the third
with two outs and a runner at third base, so
we'll keep you posted on the afternoon playoff baseball that
is going on, as well as our conversations on football
(09:35):
and basketball. By the way, and the Astros were able
to get out of the third on a great play
by Jeremy Payney to get a humpback liner to save
a run, so it's still three nothing Tigers, leaving the
Astros Houston wing to bat in the bottom half of
the third inning. This is sports Radio AM thirteen under
