Speaker 1 (00:00):
Craig Way with you alongside of the producer Cameron Parker,
and we're with you all the way up until five
o'clock this afternoon.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (00:08):
On the program, we'll have our Texas Tuesday where we'll
hear from long wand players. Also we'll talk about this
Texas O you match up from a player's perspective. If
you caught are programming from SEC Football Media days back
in July and Dallas, you heard us visit with Kyle Gundhy,

(00:31):
the former Oklahoma Sooner quarterback and assistant coach. And he's
now on our you know, seemy undersided World of Radio,
and he'll join us out. I think he's also on
a heart on Wednesday, so you'll get a double shot
of him. He's pretty entertaining. Yeah, he's the brother of
Mike Gundy, the Oaklahoma state cook. By the way, speaking

(00:52):
of programs who are kind of stumbling and struggling of late,
But Kyle will be with us tomorrow in the two
o'clock hour and in the three o'clock hour. As always
on Tuesday, we visit with Greg Tepper, managing editor of
Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine. There were some eye opening

(01:12):
results that happened over the weekend in high school football
and as well as in college football. So we'll get
his thoughts on that. And Wednesday, we're gonna visit with
Toby Roland, play by play voice of the Oklahoma Sooners.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
We visit with the opposing teams play by play voice
every week.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Several of them have been longtime friends of mine, Yes,
including the voice of the Oklahoma Sooners. He's been a
friend of mine a long time, Toby Rowland, and he'll
be with us on Wednesday. So anyway, we have a
lot in store throughout the course of this week as
we get you ready for Texas. Oh you Friday Friday,

(01:52):
you should know, make your plans whether you're driving up
to Dallas for the game or just hanging out here
down there to tune in to our special Red River
preview show Friday afternoon at two o'clock from Bar W,
which is on Maple right, is it BARW that that's correct?

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, on on Maple Avenue.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Brand new bar And from what we've heard so far,
it's it's a great spot to hang out and gonna
be able even better spot to hang out with us
on Friday.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
I think it is in the old building where if
you know Dallas and you know great bars, there was
a great bar for years, the Stoneley p which was
across the street from the Stoneley Hotel, which is still there,
but the Stoneley p they had this is the great bar,
and this one they're bar w So we're looking forward

(02:41):
to bringing you the program from that on Friday afternoon
from two to six. That's our red River preview show.
So you don't even have to worry about saying rivalry
a third alliterative word. You can just say red River
Preview and that'll be Friday afternoon. Of course, our coverage

(03:02):
of the all state Red River rivalry matchup between Texas
and Oklahoma begins Saturday morning at eleven thirty and the
kickoff is probably gonna be around to forty five I'm hearing,
probably right by the time all a said and done.
But eleven thirty is the airtime here all on the

(03:25):
zone for Long Orange Game Day with Cam and my
cards and Mark Henry from the fairgrounds. You guys will
be boots on the ground. You'll be on the fairgrounds
of the State Fair taxas correct, we will and so
if you're out there looking for a good pregame show.
We're gonna be near the Old Mill End, which is
pretty close to Big Text. I think it's on the

(03:46):
corner of Grand Avenue and First Avenue, so.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
A lot of foot traffic through that area, a lot
of foot traffic. And it's it's pretty close to the
stadium as well, so you know, come out again. We're
gonna be on from eleven thirty to one thirty, myself
of my cards, Mark Henry, as we are every week
for Longhorn's game day, and gonna have a lot of
fun guests on this week some Texas insiders, owe you insiders,
former players.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
It's gonna be a lot of fun this weekend. There
was a time, a long time ago when I used
to take dates to.

Speaker 3 (04:17):
The Old mill in Oh really wow, I said, you
can hear some of those stories.

Speaker 2 (04:23):
Not much to tell, just dates over there.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
But anyway, it's on the fairgrounds and yeah, not far
from Big Text. Oh the folks, this is a Big
Text of talking to you. Welcome to the State Fair
of Texas anyway, so it'll be pretty close. Remember that
your Big Text caught on fire. Yeah, I was scary,

(04:47):
just burned. Yea. His clothes were quite flammable and kind
of went up in flames on that. Speaking of going
up in flames, this this business of the top five
or five of the top eleven ranked teams in the
country losing over the weekend. The Vanderbilt Alabama game I mentioned,

(05:09):
it's the first time that Vanderbilt has beaten Alabama in
forty years. That was in Tuscal loose in eighty four,
and it was the first time they've beaten them in
Nashville since nineteen seventy six. I want you to think
about this for a minute. Vanderbilt wins Arkansas knocks off
Tennessee sixteen to twelve, nineteen fourteen.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
I guess it was so they beat Tennessee.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
So you know, with all of this conversation about the
relative strength of the long warns SEC schedule, take a
look at it now in Texas, A and M blasting Missouri.
All three of those teams, all three of those teams
beating top ten ranked teams, and Texas has to play

(05:58):
road games at all three of those places. They have
to go to Nashville at the end of October to
play Vanderbilt, they have to go to Fayetteville to play
Arkansas November sixteenth, and they have to go to College
Station on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
So when you're.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Talking about the Texas schedule, keep some of those things
a mind. Oh oh, by the way, a very good
Kentucky team will be coming in and we'll come in
and we'll play in Austin on November twenty third.

Speaker 2 (06:30):
She got that.

Speaker 1 (06:31):
Even Florida went over the weekend beat UCF. They'll be
here on November ninth. All of Texas remaining opponents who
played of the weekend one an unbeaten of the weekend.
So that's that's something to consider about that. The Alabama
Vanderbilt game was was a noteworthy for several reasons. One,

(06:57):
obviously this year magnitude of a Vanderbilt beating Alabama, but
the way in which they did it. They did it
the way that the Service academies pull off wins. Remember
remember when Army played Oklahoma so were tough a few
years ago. They kept the ball. They just you know,
you squeezed a life, slowly suffocating your team by having

(07:20):
time at possession. They had it for forty two minutes plus,
so better than two thirds of the possession time went
the way of the commodores. They were never, never, once
forced into a three and out. That might be the
most mind boggling number of them all that not one
time during the course of the day was Vanderbilt forced

(07:44):
into a three and out. And they seemingly had answers
every time when Alabama would answer, then they would answer.
Bama kept it close, and then Vanderbilt would have an answer.
And there were some noteworthy performances including the guy you
called games that he played in, I called games that

(08:05):
he played in. Cedric Alexander from LBJ scored a couple
of big touchdowns and then caught the pass to that
big first down to keep it the clock running and
keep possession going for Vanderbilt.

Speaker 2 (08:17):
So he had that.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
And I don't know if folks recognized the name Eli Stowers,
but Eli Stowers had a very big part in the
game with what he did catching the balls receiver. Eli
Stowers is a former Texas high school quarterback. In fact,
Eli Stowers was the quarterback of the Denton Guy or Wildcats,
who played Westlake in the state championship game when Kate

(08:42):
Klubnick was playing for Westlake. Stowers went down early in
the game, first few minutes of the game. Knee injury
into the season and they had to play a Wow,
it's true freshman high school. He usual a freshman, I
would say true freshman in the high school with a
freshman ninth grader named Jackson Arnold. So imagine the symmetry

(09:05):
of all of that. So Stowers was out. Stours eventually
matriculates to Vanderbilt and comes up with some big catches.
So he had two former Texas high school football stars
who made an impact in that game for Vanderbilt to
beat Alabama. And then on top of that, the quarterback

(09:26):
Diego Pavia was something else. I watched him play when
he played at New Mexico State at a program that
was just completely forgotten. Jerry Killed did a really good
job while he was there building a back up, and
Pavia was his quarterback. Pavia a guy from Albuquerque whose
hometown school, New Mexico showed no interest in it whatsoever.

(09:47):
Texas Tech said you can come as a walk on,
but he believed he could be a scholarship quarterback, and
he went to junior college and then ultimately New Mexico
State and then the Vanderbilt and he engineers this massive
upset win for the Commodores over Alabama. So if Texas

(10:09):
should happen to win tonight, I mean this Saturday against Oklahoma,
and then the following Saturday night at home against Georgia,
they would carry the number one ranking into Vanderbilt, whe
Vanderbilt would have a second opportunity to knock off a
number one ranked team during the course of the year
if that were to happen. All right, coming up, we're
gonna hear more from Long Horns head coach Steve Sarkisian.

(10:30):
Whill we continue here on this Monday Longhorns Monday edition
of the program here on sports Radio AM thirteen under
the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
