Speaker 1 (00:03):
It's the craig Way Show with the voice of the
Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame Broadcasting Craig Way. All right,
thanks again the Gene Watson, our MLB insider there. Yeah,
I think he's probably got a future in broadcasting at
some point, in working in doing podcasting and commenty, especially

(00:26):
when you hear all the things, all the podcast and
all the satellite network radio baseball shows. I think he's
you know, he's been doing it for a while and
we always enjoy having him on joining us as well.
The Tigers and Guardians are still scoreless, although Cleveland is
threatening a leadoff double. U has the first run of

(00:49):
the ball game about to score. Maybe not. It was
a hit through the left side. Yeah, so they're runners
on the corners, but nobody out for Cleveland as they
bat in the bottom half of the sixth inning. We'll
keep you post on them. And again, the Guardians lead
that series one game to none of Detroit and Cleveland.
Other than other than teams who have never been to

(01:15):
the World Series, like the Mariners, I'm trying to think
who else has never been New World Series? Is it?
Is it only the Mariners who have never been to
a World Series. You go American League East Yankees Orioles,
Blue Jay's, Red Sox AH. Then in the Central with Royals, Tigers, Guardians,

(01:41):
Twins uh. And then you have Angels, Rangers, astros A's. Yeah,
you're in the they're in the right division, the the
and the Mariners. So there's never appeared World series, right,
has anyone else never appeared in the World Series. They're

(02:03):
the only ones who know, all right, so other than
the Seattle Mariners who've never been in a World Series
but didn't come into existence until nineteen seventy seven. And
so you can make this statement, and it is true.
The longest drought for appearing in a World Series belongs,
or for winning for winning a World Series belongs to
the Cleveland Guardians, who were the Indians for roof not

(02:24):
one one since nineteen forty eight. Now, they were in
it when they lost to the Cubs in twenty sixteen.
They were in it ninety seven when they lost Game
seven to the Marlins. Uh. And they've been in it.
They were in it nineteen fifty four when they won
one hundred and eleven ball games that year and got
swept by the Giants in the World Series. But that's
the longest drought because the Mariners weren't even in existence

(02:46):
until nineteen seventy seven. So Cleveland has the longest drought
of not winning a World Series. But they do have
a one nothing lead. Do they have one nothing linking? Yes?
A double No, they got out of it. Tiger's got
out of the ground ball double play. Wow. Scooball very
very happy through that inning. A double play got the

(03:08):
Tigers out of the inning. So it's still scoreless after
six innings there quickly turned double play six four to
three to end the frame. There, All right, let's hear
some more from Long Oranges head coach Steve Sarkesian. This
from the weekly news conference that we brought to you
a live earlier today here on sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred The Zone, and he was asked if he had

(03:32):
a favorite Texas ou moment. What might that be?

Speaker 2 (03:37):
I love everything about the Red River rivalry. I love
pulling into the State Fair and seeing fans from both
teams and horns up, horns down, all the stuff's flying
around the buses. I love walking the field. I love
the tunnel. I love both teams being on the tunnel together.
I love coming down and their fans on top of us.
I love looking at the sea of burn orange and
running to that end of the field. I love the

(04:00):
city of the game. I love how crowded the sidelines are.
I don't I don't know how so many people get
on the sidelines for this game, but they do. Hey whatever,
you know, I turn over, turn around and Governor Abbotts
right next to me on the field, And there's just
stuff that happens in this game that I think that's
what makes this game special. And like I said, we're
fortunate to be part of it, and this week's no different.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
He was asked if there's a specific position for Oklahoma
that presents the biggest challenge to taxes.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Well, they've all they've got big playability at the wide
receiver spot, you know, and I think they've done a
nice job of creating explosive plays and recruiting to explosive
play makers, you know, whether it's Burke's Anderson, you know,
Brendon Thompson's created explosive plays. So they've got speed, they've
got length, they've got playmaking ability, and that's that's you know,

(04:49):
one of the keys to the drill is is how
do we how do we guard those people stop the
run and worry about a quarterback who can extend plays
with his legs and so there's a lot of levels
to this. But you know, when you have threats on
the perimeter, now you have to think about how how
are we gonna how are we gonna guard them in
a fashion to try to minimize those explosive plays that
they're more than capable of making.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
I asked my cardball hard on our Long Worns Monday
live coverage this morning. I said, I said, you do
a better job than I do of paying attention to
such things. I said, well, what are the fellas in
the desert saying about this? In other words, the points
breadt the betting line and at the time he said
fourteen and a half and it hadn't moved since last week,

(05:30):
So it'll be interesting to see well. Sark was asked
about his team being a two touchdown favorite.

Speaker 2 (05:35):
I didn't know that it's a rivalry game. Forget forget
whatever we're favored or we're not. It doesn't matter. You
know that records and things don't matter in games like this.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Yeah, so when it comes to freshman quarterbacks playing, arch
banning of course is played, so and then Michael Hawkins
being a true freshman as well. Is there advantage to
playing some freshman quarterback to get him that kind of experience?

Speaker 2 (06:01):
You know, I think one thing one of the advantages
being a true freshman starter in games like this, you
have no scars, right, you have no wounds, you have
no You're playing with a you know, a clean slate,
a blank slate. You know, he's a blank canvas that's
just starting to start his career. And so you know,
he doesn't have any of those things in the back
of his head to worry about, and he's sure he's
going to go in there and let it rip and

(06:22):
go play. And our job is to try to confuse him.
Our job is to try to make it difficult on him.
How we do that, We have to do that a
variety of ways that you know, all hopefully can add
up to making it a tough day for him. But again,
that's easier said than done. On a Monday at eleven
forty five or whatever time it is. You know, it's
going to be a big task for all parties involved,

(06:45):
coaches and players included.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
No doubt about it. We'll hear more from Coach Star
coming up tomorrow, We'll be back to wrap up today's
program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
