Speaker 1 (00:00):
Craig Way, joined by the producer Cameron Parker.

Speaker 2 (00:02):
Glad to have you alongside as always as we navigate
the two to five slot here and do it on
a Monday through Friday basis Hey a reminder, we'll have
our regular program Tomorrow two to five and Thursday two

(00:22):
to five. On Friday, however, we will be in Dallas
and we look forward to bringing you the program from
bar w New and Cool Sports Bar in Dallas. It's
on Maple Avenue and it's just across from If you
know Dallas, you know where the Stoneley Hotel is there

(00:44):
on Maple.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
That's where it's across the street from.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
In fact, it's in the old Stoneley p Bar space there,
and so we'll do the program there on Friday. We're
calling it the red River Preview and we'll be on
the air from two to six on Friday. We includes
not only the producer Cameron Parker and myself, but also
my cardboll Harge will be with us there on Friday

(01:10):
this Friday of Red River Rivalry Week, and then on
Saturday morning beginning at eleven thirty on the fair grounds
of the State Fair of Texas where they've played this
football game continuously since nineteen twenty nine. This is the
one hundred and twentieth meeting between Texas and Oklahoma. But

(01:32):
they've only played it continuously in Dallas since nineteen twenty nine.
And they used to have an old stadium called fair
Park Stadium, old wooden grandstand, and they played it in
there for a little bit in the early thirties, yet
burned to the ground, called fire and burned. So then
they built what we now know to be the Cotton Bowl.
They started playing it there in nineteen thirty seven, and

(01:52):
then of course it expanded in nineteen forty five, added
the upper deck, and it was known as the House
that Doak built because Doak Walker ran up and down
that field when he was winning the Heisman Trophy for
SMU in the mid to late forties. And so they've
been playing it in Dallas continuously since nineteen twenty nine
on the fair Grounds. And on the Fairgrounds is where

(02:14):
Cameron Parker, Mike Cardball, Hard and the world's strongest man
Mark Henry will bring you our Longhorns game day program
leaning up to Texas OU Saturday. Of course, the network
pre game Roger Wallace, Will Matthews will join me for
that beginning at one point thirty the kickoff at and
it's probably gonna be closer to two forty five to

(02:35):
two fifty, but you know it's scheduled for two THIRTI
it's gonna be a little bit later that by the
time they kick it off. But anyway, our coverage begins
at eleven thirty Saturday morning from the Fairgrounds. So prediction
by the time you take air Saturday morning at eleven
thirty for the game day programming, how many deep fried

(02:59):
foods will you consumed by them? Probably just a corn dog?

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Okay, probably just a corn dog, because depending on the
setup time and the teardown time and where are we
at in the vicinity of other food places that are
easy to get to and get back because it's it's
going to be packed, it's going to be great weather,
and it's going to mean to be packed. And of course,
you know the press box, they do give us rudies

(03:25):
to think last year was rudy, so we'll bank on that.
But afterwards, because there's really no point in rushing to
get home, depending on how the result goes, that's when
I'll probably dive into some of something else deeper fried foods,
I think, and that's what I didn't get too crazy
this past year. I did Friday Orios the first time
two years ago. That was incredible, But I think in

(03:48):
this year, I don't know that the Turculate's forty forty
tickets forty bucks. I don't know if I can stomach
that crag, but I may have to because I still
I haven't had a turculate yet from the Texas State there.
I've had it from that of Carolina State Fair, but
never have had it from the Texas State there.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
It's it's it's something special. I'm a corn doll guy,
but I've had the turkey leg and uh and then
I think I had the deep fried biscoff dessert last year.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
That was pretty cool.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
Where they have anything that's got kind of chocolate and
caramel and peanut butter, peanut but that stuff.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
I'm I'm there, you know all that kind of stuff.

Speaker 3 (04:26):
So yeah, that's just the lines in trying to eat
it in the hot sun, like when you're when you're
so heat deprived, you just want something cool. But there's
a lot of you know, kind of frozen items this year.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
Yeah, tomorrow on the program, we're gonna run down the
State Fair food the things that folks can do.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
There's some very interesting options this year. Yeah, I think.

Speaker 3 (04:48):
I'm honest, I think last year was better looking at
the new food items because there's not there's not a
lot to choose from. I mean there there's a lot
to choose from, but there's also not a lot to
choose from.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Yeah, so we'll run those things down today. All right, Okay,
somebody on the text line say, hey, that Victory plus
app is pretty cool. It's free and better user friendly
than the paligs app.

Speaker 1 (05:14):
As what they say about that?

Speaker 2 (05:16):
Okay, all right, coming up, we're going to visit with
Greg Tapper, managing editor or Dave Camill's Texas Football Magazine.
But before we get to tap, just to give you
an idea of what goes through the player's minds on
a week like this. Never mind that Texas is a
fourteen and a half pointy favorite, This is Texas.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
You is the Red River rivalry.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
I've been in that broadcast booth and seen what Texas
was a substantial favorite and got smacked around by Oklahoma.
I've been in that broadcast booth when Oklahoma was a
substantial favorite and got smacked around by Texas again, throwing
record books out of windows and all that other kind
of stuff. For getting that all that stuff, this game

(06:01):
stands alone, and a guy like David Benda, who's about
to play in his sixth Texas OU game, knows all
about what needs to go into the preparation and the
mental preparedness and emotional preparedness to play in this game.

Speaker 4 (06:17):
Great support, but honestly, we got to make sure we
come out and bring our best because I know they're
gonna bring.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
Out their best. I mean, it's the Texas OU rivalry.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Everyone thinks they're saying they I'm telling you, oh, you's
gonna bring their best regardless of what they're doing. I
know we're taking a week, but we just seeing those games, honestly,
it was just it was eye opening. It was just
more like to reinforce the idea of like we need
to hone in on the little details in regardless that
hey is never in the in the barn.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
We got to make sure we.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
Have every rock turn, every little thing. We need to
hone in on many to make sure we're fanatical to
the ball, make sure we'll just have everything sound because
it doesn't matter who you're facing, regardless of what's gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
It's college football. Anything can happen, you know.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Yeah, playing and simple, and we saw that last weekend
with Vanderbilt knocking off Alabama, Arkansas beating Tennessee at Texas
A and m was actually slightly favored over Missouri, but
to dominate them the way they did, absolutely dominate them,
I think surprised a lot of folks. And then to

(07:16):
see some of the other surprises USC lose in Minnesota.
Michigan lost to Washington. Five of the top eleven ranked
teams the nation went down to defeat. So it's a
difference with college football a supposed to the NFL. All right,
up next, we'll talk about college and high school football
in the state of Texas As. We'll visit with Greg Tepper,
managing editor of Dave Campills Texas Football Magazine. When we
