Speaker 1 (00:00):
As we head downhill on the downhill run toward going
to Dallas for the Texas OU weekend. Craig Way is
my name, Cameron Parker, alongside the producer. Of course, both
of us will be headed up north to Dallas at
the completion of this program. And let me just say this,
this doesn't really affect either you or me because neither
(00:24):
of us are Native Texans. Now, we've both lived in
the state a while. In fact, I've lived most of
my life in the state of Texas, but I wasn't
born here and didn't grow up here. I moved out
when I was eighteen and have lived out here ever since. However,
one thing that I never picked up on that native
Texans say, including my wife, including my kids, who by
(00:49):
birth are Native Texans and they were born in this day,
is the term coming from Austin or Georgetown or whatever
in the area. Yeah, we're going to go down to Dallas. No,
you're not going down, going up, You're going up. I
thirty five, You're going north. Going north is going up
if you're from Oklahoma. Yeah, you're coming down to the
(01:09):
Dallas for the game. But but I hear that a lot. Yeah,
we're gonna go down to Dallas for the game. And
going down you can say down to Houston, because it's
kind of east southeast. You can definitely say down to
San Antonio, but not down to Dallas. You go up
to Dallas, and you've driven up to Dallas many times.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
I think a lot of people say that.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
I do notice that, but mainly Native Texans I've noticed
really interesting.
Speaker 2 (01:32):
Yeah, hey, we're going down to Chicago this weekend. Oh okay,
interesting Chicago, nexas Chicago. Where's another Chicago.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
You go up to Chicago, you go north to Chicago.
You go up to New York. You don't go down
to New York. It don't go down to Los Angeles.
You go out to La You out to the coast.
You know, people say, we go out there out west. Uh,
you go up north to the Pacific northwest. Yeah, you
don't go You don't go nor. You don't go down
to Dallas, go north, you go up anyway, We're gonna
(02:06):
go up there. We get done with the program this afternoon.
We've talked some baseball. They're just now getting about they
haven't started yet, about to get Game four of the
al Ds series between Cleveland and Detroit. At k America
Park and Detroit Underway, and so far, so far, the
(02:29):
lower seeds have really made a statement. In the American League.
You have the number six seed Detroit up to games
to one on Cleveland. If they win this game in Detroit,
the number six seed in both the American League Division
(02:49):
Series or the American League Playoffs and the Nationalague Playoffs,
both will have advanced to their respective league championship series.
Mets did that the six seed. The Mets have already
knocked off the three seed Milwaukee and the two seed Philadelphia,
and so now they're waiting to see who wins the
game between the one seed Los Angeles and the four
(03:11):
seed San Diego. Know this, if the Dodgers don't win
tomorrow night, and quite frankly, I didn't expect them to
win last night. But it was a brilliant pitching performance
by the bullpen for the Dodgers, and as we mentioned earlier,
the calculated risks taken by both teams. It worked for LA,
it did not work for San Diego. Bringing back Dylan
(03:32):
Cease on short rest and all of that sort of thing.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
We sound down on the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Craig, I'm wearing my hat today. I'm not down, no, no, no no.
I am being a realist about it, unlike you. I
watched my.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
Team on television, but like me, you are a realist.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
I am, I am. I'm not a pessimist. I am
a realist. And after all, we are talking about a
team that has been knocked out in the division at
this level, the Division round the last two years, last
year by ours On, a year before by San Diego.
In twenty one. They got to the NLCS where they
lost to eventual world champion Atlanta. When they lost to
(04:08):
the Braves in twenty twenty one, but you know, they're
just flat out of starting pitching. So they had to
cobble it together last night, and they did, and they
got their offense going. They've got Mookie Bets going again.
They're trying to get Shoeo Chiny going again. We'll see
if Freddie Freeman can play tomorrow night. He'll note if
(04:29):
he'll be able to go, or Miguel Rojas. But anyway,
they put the pieces together to get that win in
San Diego and deny the Padres a chance to beat
the hated what do they call it, the whatever, the
evil Empire whatever to knock them out on the in
San Diego on their home field. It didn't happen, so
(04:50):
they're gonna have to do it on the road. But
they're an extremely confident team and this is gonna be
an interesting game tomorrow night. But my point was going
to be, if the Dodgers don't win tomorrow night, your
National League Championship Series will be the fourth seed against
the sixth seed. The four seed San Diego would have
home field advantage. Winner of the game tomorrow night is
(05:12):
going to have home field advantage for the NLC. Yes,
Now ask the Mets if they care. I mean, the
Mets have been away, were away from them. They had
to get at least one win in Atlanta, and they
did to get in. Then they went to Milwaukee and
knocked out the Brewers and you know, in a decisive
(05:35):
third game did that, went to Philadelphia, got the first game,
lost the second game, and then went home and did
not look back and did not allow the series to
get back to Philadelphia. Detroit is trying to do the
same thing in the American League. Detroit, of course, swept
two games from the three seed Houston then went home,
(05:59):
dropped or then went to Cleveland dropped Game one to
the Guardians, the number two seed, who looked every bit
the part of the first game. They blew them out.
They scored five runs in the first inning, the one,
seven to nothing since that time, since that time, Cleveland
has scored a grand total of two runs. It was,
and those were in game one. They're not scored in
Game two or Game three as they get ready to
start this one. So the Guardians are in trouble. They're
(06:22):
the number two seed. And if Detroit wins this game
this afternoon or tomorrow, a decisive final game, which would
be back in Cleveland, then you'd have both six seeds
into the postseason, into the final four, if you will,
of Major League Baseball. Now, the Yankees and Dodgers can
(06:42):
keep things, you know, relatively on level. If the Yankees
finish off the Royals tonight after winning last night, it
was a tight game, they won that three to two.
The gian Carlo Stanton home run the difference in the ballgame,
So they could finish off off the Royals tonight, and
if the Dodgers find a way to win that fifth
(07:03):
game against the pod Race, then you'll still have both
number one seeds in. There would be really interesting. If
you add the one seed against the sixth seed in both,
it might kind of quiet the argument somewhat that folks
are making about this five day layoff that division championship,
that it's bad for you and all that kind of stuff.
I know this, the Dodgers really needed it at the
(07:25):
end of their deal. They were so beaten up and
beating down and all that other kind of stuff. But
when folks look at Philadelphia, you know, and say, hey,
look and if Cleveland gets knocked out, I'm gonna say
both two seeds got knocked out, both three seeds got
knocked out. Now, they didn't have the layoff they were
playing in the deal, So I don't know. John Smoltz
was talking about it on the telecast, and I think
(07:47):
he makes a good point. They can revisit all of this,
that the sample size is still relatively small since they
expanded it to this point. But there seems to be
movement a foot, perhaps to make the Wildcard series just
one game and then make the division series best of
seven so that you still have time to recover yourself.
(08:11):
If you're a higher seed and you drop the first
two games at home or whatever and fall behind on
that deal.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
We'll see the Detroit Tigers. Craig remind me the Rangers
last season. Yeah, a team, Watson said that when he
was on with us, A team that you started off
good and then had some moments in the season where
you thought out, I don't know they're gonna make the playoffs.
They don't end up winning their division. Now, of course,
Rangers lost in the last week of the season, whereas
Cleveland led from game one. The game won sixty two.
(08:38):
But they are a team eighty six wins this year.
Rangers won I think ninety this last season. Rangers, of
course a five seed. But this Detroit team, I mean,
they're scrappy, They're a lot of fun to watch, and
there's just been a great story so far this season.
And just like the Rangers beat the Astros last season
in the ALCS, it looks like the Detroit gonna knock
off Cleveland in the ALDS this season.
Speaker 1 (09:00):
Wow, it'll be amazing if it happens. So anyway, they're
just now getting underway with Game four of that series
at Comerica Park. All right up next, we brought this
