Speaker 3 (00:18):
All right, thanks again, the Gene Watson, our MLB insider,
joining us here to preview the two League Championship Series,
of course, the National leg Championship Series, one game in
the books, already in Game two underway right now at
Dodgers Stadium, and the New York Mets turning the tables
from last night's nine to nothing shut out loss to

(00:39):
lay got a one run on a leadoff homer by
Francisco Lindor on the top of the first and the
second an RBI single has given the Mets a two
to nothing lead and they're still batting with the bases
loaded two outs in the inning.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
We'll keep you up on that. One.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
American League Championship Series gets underway tonight in New York
with the Mets are excuse me, with the Yankees at
home against the Cleveland Guardians in Game one of that. Cleveland,
of course, won its first postseason series since the year
they went to the World Series when they lost to

(01:14):
the Cubs. When they had Chicago down three games to one,
and the Cubs came back to win that World Series.
And the Yankees, of course, are trying to win their
first World Series since two thousand and nine. That's the
last time New York won, So it's been fifteen years
since the Yankees have won a World Series. So that's
what's at stake there is. Those two teams get together

(01:36):
tonight in the Bronx in New York. And as we mentioned,
we'll keep you updated on the National League Championship Series
between the Dodgers and the Mets. I wanted to hear
some more from long Worn's head coach Steve Sarkesian. You know,
there was a there was a question, I don't know
if we've got the whole Q.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
And a exchange on this.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Just the answer, just the answer, okay, all right, there
was a there was a question posed by a young
lady who asked. And by the way, the Mets have
just blown it open on a grand slam home run.
Mark Biento's with a grand slam down there, he was
down in the count, a ball and two strikes worked

(02:19):
at full into hit a grand slam, and now all
of a sudden, the Mets have jumped all over the
Dodger they leaded six to nothing as they bat in
the top half of the second inning on that, So
again we'll keep you updated on that, as they fully
took advantage of the rookie Land and Knack who made
three or four big mistakes in that inning already so.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Very composed for that because I may have tossed my
laptop and this was the roles.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
Well, I also understand what the Dodgers have been through
with their pidgeon, and now things are, you know. The
thing is, the thing is, he made a couple of
big mistakes zero to two in the count, uh and
to another hitter and gave up, elevated, just floated a
breaking ball that went for an RBI single RBI to make.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
It two to nothing.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Then they called for an intentional walk, and rightly so,
to Francisco Lindor, the left handed hitter who had already
homered off of Ryan Brazi of the right endor that
loaded the bases. Then he got ahead of Mark Entto's
the ball and two strikes let the count get full,
and Vanto's hit a grand slam, so it's six nothing.
Me's looked like they may well even that series at
a game of piece. All right, So to go back

(03:24):
to what long Worn's head coach, Steve Sarkesian was, he
was asked, and I'm I'm not being critical of anybody,
but the question was I could have predicted what his
response would be when some of the questions are more
of the they if a question isn't analytical, let me

(03:47):
just put it that way. If it's more emotional than analytical,
the head coach is going to take a dim view
of it. So instead of asking, you know, what has
made the difference for your team in how you attack
a team and how you go about earning your victories,

(04:08):
he would have responded final that. But when you start
off with Billy Bowman, if Oklahoma says you guys didn't
earn it, I mean you know you're going to have
the kind of answer that gifts to that followed by
the question that actually does bring about a decent answer.

Speaker 4 (04:25):
Not my problem. We won next game.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
So that was that was the question.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
You know, he said that when Billy Bowman said that
Texas didn't really earn it. I thought Bowman's original tweet
about it or response about it was that they didn't
earn things after or the early mistake early on.

Speaker 2 (04:47):
That's that's what I thought, because I was in the
press conference room and the question was I think asked
to Bowman, was first quarter, you guys told them the
zero rushing yards, It was zero zero. Then you had
the two turnovers. What changed in quarters two, three, and
four defensively for Oklahoma as opposed to the first quarter,
And you know, he kind of mentioned the mistakes, and

(05:08):
I think what he was trying to say was Texas
didn't earn those two touchdowns because they were coming off
fumbles on Oklahoma's side of the field. Yeah, I didn't
take it as Texas did not to start to win
that game, which is now how it's being construed now.
I could be I could have, you know, maybe understanding
what Bowman is saying. That's exactly what he is saying.
But that's not what I got from that answer. I

(05:29):
think he was more pointing to the two turnovers in
the second quarter that resulted in fourteen points for Texas.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
Okay, Yeah, and I do agree with you.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
That's how I Yeah, yeah, it was it was fourteen
points that made it fourteen three when they got there,
or took it from seven to three to twenty one three.
That's right the the I agree with you that that's
what Billy Bowman's in tent was.

Speaker 1 (05:53):
However, I think Billy Bowman.

Speaker 3 (05:57):
Uh is is being a little less than realistic understanding
that those were forced turnovers that they did on those fumbles.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
Those were forced fumbles.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
That's the defense creating in turn which, by the way,
something oklahomad done really well going into the game and
got one early on the Ers interception, which that one
wasn't a forced turn I was just Quinn just flat
out missing the mark and overthrowing the receiver on that.
So you know that to have it construed back as

(06:30):
they almost like they were lucky to win, like hear
fan say or something like that. If you ask questions
like that at a news conference, the coach is going
to take and I'm not just talking about Sark. Most
coaches would take a pretty dim view of it. And
I was just like, I'm not gonna worry about and
all Sarks. It's not my problem.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
We won the game.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
So then it got to the actual question what does
your team do to earn victories?

Speaker 5 (06:52):
I was refer to the players a lot about you know,
getting ahead in the game, of life and what does
that mean. That means, you know, having your priorities aligned.
It means you know, being early to commitments that you make.
And life is easier that way. You know, it's easy,
it's life's a lot more difficult when your press conference
starts at eleven thirty and you guys are coming to

(07:12):
cover the press conference and you're running in at eleven
thirty one and you're throwing your mic down. You that
life is more difficult that way. Well, football is very
simp The game of football is a lot easier to
play when you have a lead as opposed to when
you're playing from behind. When you have the lead, you
have all of your game plan at your disposal. You
can make the necessary adjustments because you can foreshadow and

(07:34):
see what's coming. When you're playing from behind, you're in
a little bit more scramble mode, and sometimes you have
to scrap the original game plan. You have to go to,
you know, your contingency plans of maybe you know what,
if this Plan A didn't work, you got to go
to plan B, Plan C. And so we believe in,
like I said, our formula for success. We try to
get leads. We try to you know, run plays that

(07:56):
we think have an opportunity, like I said, to move
the football and score.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
We try to play a really sound defense.

Speaker 5 (08:01):
And then if we can get that lead, especially into
the second half, and it's a multiple score lead, and
now you have to start to really throw the ball,
which is something that we wanted to get better at
from a year ago. Is all right, now they have
to go throw it. Now let's go rush the passer,
and now we can affect a quarterback and create turnovers
and things. And so it is a formula that works
that The key for us is we've been fortunate that

(08:23):
we've got to.

Speaker 4 (08:24):
Play that way all year long, and that's the ideal way.

Speaker 5 (08:29):
But we have to be prepared for the other way too,
because that day's probably going to come at some point,
and we have to make sure that we're more than
equipped to handle that as well.

Speaker 3 (08:37):
All Right, So that was the long way ultimately to
get to a good answer from Sark about that, which
started with that. You know, like I said, the question
that was probably going to throw the head coach off
a little bit when you're asked about another player's emotional
response to why Texas defeated that player's team and that's

(08:58):
why you know you'll you'll never probably get a real
good response on those kinds of things anyway. Also, the
long words have been really good at once they get
in the lead, having that killer instinct. And Sark was
asked what changes once Texas is in front to have
to have the lead in that once they have the

(09:19):
lead in those.

Speaker 5 (09:20):
Games, as refer to the players a lot about you know,
