Speaker 1 (00:00):
The third and final hour of this program here on
a log Horns Monday, and we'll be glad to discuss
a variety of topics as well.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Here on the program.

Speaker 1 (00:12):
I have because I have a new laptop in order,
I'm still trying to get it configured on things, and
that would include our text line.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Cam however, has.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
Access to the text line, so if anything comes up
of consequence, you will bring it to my attention.

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Yeah, it's been a busy day on the text line.
We can run through them. Sure you want clean up? Yeah, absolutely,
a little clean upon on the text line, Cebe says Craig.
Great call as usual Saturday, and I loved your tweets
Saturday night with Will Matthews eating corn dogs and the
better than a factory cigar statement. The win was an
early birthday gift for me, as today is my actual birthday.

(00:49):
There you go, CB, congrats, we had a good time.
I you know, I usually eat a corn dog every
year at the Texas OU game. Every year, I usually
eat a corn dog.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
I had not had a chance to get to one,
and I was just kind of musing aloud and Will
Matthews needed a ride back to the hotel and I said,
we hop in hop in with us, so he was
gonna ride with Linden and me back to the hotel.
But I mentioned getting a corn dog, and Will had
made it clear in the post game when we were

(01:23):
talking to her, we'd been given word that members of
the Texas Athletics staff someone was going out to get
Sark a corn dog, because we said on longgrn Weekly
last week. Now, he pledged if someone would get him
what he'd eaten, the cotton candy bacon on a stick.
Nobody got him that, But I think he was really
more interested in the corn dog.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Because he mentioned a couple of times and he never
had one.

Speaker 1 (01:46):
So we pointed out, well asked the question during to
break all us.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
To uh, are they only getting one? There's others of
us who've never had one. We laughed about it.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
So they they brought one and Sark ate it, carried
it into the news conference right.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
He came in with and he said, he walked in,
he goes, I got my corn dog, y'all, and we
all sort of laughing. And the funny part is is
that in between questions he would sneak in a.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
You would take a bit kind of smiled and.

Speaker 3 (02:14):
You know, I think Thomas Chone from The Statesman was
next to me and kind of pointing at Sark. He
looked at us and laugh and then would take another bite,
and Michael Taff was looking over it laughing, while Anthony
Hill or Trey Wisener or Quinn was answering the question.
And then when he wrapped up, he said, all right,
I got my corn dog.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
That was for y'all.

Speaker 3 (02:30):
And then someone asked how was it. He goes, it
was amazing. Then you walked that, so so that happened.
So I said to Will we were going down. He goes, gosh, yeah,
I s mean I didn't w I said.

Speaker 1 (02:41):
Well, let's go get one, and Linda knew where to
find that the closest, uh Fletcher's Corny dog stand. Now
that you need to know that at the State Fair
there's more corn dog stands than just fleshures, but Fletcher's
is kind of the gold standard. They've been the standard bearer,
and I said, your first one really ought to be
from Fletcher's.

Speaker 2 (03:00):
So it took a little bit.

Speaker 1 (03:01):
Of walking and maneuvering to get around a lot of
the foot traffic and a lot of the people and
going through the midway, and that's where I saw the
dumpling stand, and that's where I saw the the hamburger
with the donut topping and all this different stuff. But
we eventually we kept our eyes on the price and
we got to the corn dog stand and we hit
it at the perfect time.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
Some people just walked away.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
There was nobody getting it, so we just stepped right
up and we got one. We chatted with the guy
who was running the corn dog stand. Uh and then
and and I want to tell you CB, the corn
dog is primo. You one else was really good. I
mentioned first hour, the lemonade is really really good. There
I' gotten one of them. That's why it appears in
that Instagram post there, I said. And and then when

(03:45):
I also tweeted the photo, that just says better than
a victory cigar. And I do enjoy a good scar
on theccasion, But but after that game and it's and
it's in the wind column on that, then absolutely I'm
gonna want the corn dog. So it went really well,

(04:06):
So happy birthday, and thanks for the nice words on
the calls.

Speaker 2 (04:09):
As we say in the business, it was a good
horse to ride. We really enjoyed it.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
A seapel asked the station lose money feeding Hard and
Henry at.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
The Stay Air. It's a fair question.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
The amount tickets we went through on Saturday was an
enormous amount. Enormous amount our guardians fan texting in today
as well. He said, as a Guardian and Buckeyes fan,
Saturday was a true Jeckyll and Hide sports day. By
eleven o'clock, I did not know where my body ended
and where the couch began. He also said for Cleveland,

(04:42):
Josh Naylor needs to wake up as well. Nobody goes
four for thirty six with twenty seven first pitch outs
like Josh Naylor, All right, so there you are. And
then regarding cam Rising had a couple of messages, one
calling him a permanent student, must have ten degrees by now,
text her saying seven years of college down the drain.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yeah right, the great line from Animal House.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
And then and the last one Craig asking if we're
gonna talk NFL to day, but the forty nine ers
may want to play in Dallas in two weeks instead
of San Francisco. You're not wrong, hook him and yeah,
oh you could have stopped Texas.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
But where were you Billy Bowman. Ah, so there you go.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
And remember remember Billy Bowman was a Texas commit. Yeah,
and we had him on High School Scoreboard Live when
he was playing at Denton.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Ryan had him on.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
It was the feature and asked maat and at the time,
he said he was still firm on his commitment. And
then it was pointed out that his girlfriend was a
softball player was going to Oklahoma, and he actually wobbled
a little and.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
He said, yeah, I'm still committed Texas.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
And I looked at that right then, and I think
I looked at Rick Renter as my co host and
Greg Temper.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
And I said, he's not gonna stay with Texas.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
She's going to She's going to Oklahoma. He's gonna followed Oklahoma.
And he did, and he's had a good career. He's
just that was that was not one of his better moments.
I mean, he had the interception, but after that, the
comments and things like that, probably not one of his
better moments. But we've all been there and those things
kind of happened. Let's hear a little more from Longhorns
head coach Steve Sarkisian uh as the Longhorns come off

(06:25):
the win and get ready for the matchup with Georgia.
Another thing that that Sark was asked about about how
well his team plays once they are in the lead,
and uh.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
You know what, what makes a big difference for that.

Speaker 1 (06:42):
And then he was asked about Leonga Lafowl who Lafowl
got the start at linebacker and against Oklahoma instead of
David Bendon.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
I've been played a lot.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
In fact, he had a he had a sack of
the game, he had a big play in the game
as well. But Lafowl played really really well also, And
Sark was asked about Lafal's play and what had led
up to him earning the start against ou.

Speaker 4 (07:07):
Yeah, and we just kind of looked at, you know,
the first five games and heading into the by and
really felt like the combination of Leonga and Anthony together
would free Anthony up to do a few more things,
which I think is what we saw. It was allowed
him to rush the passer a little bit more and
use his versatility with Leonga having a real understanding of

(07:29):
the defense in the middle there. And so I think
that combination was good for us. You know, Leonga's earning
that playing time, like a couple of games ago out.
If you remember, he and Anthony were both players of
the game for US, and they were rotating, and so
it was like, how do we get them both on
the field simultaneously. He's an impact player for us on
special teams as well. And as I said before, if

(07:51):
you just talk about culture on our team, this guy's elite.
You know, he's top one, two or three, you know,
culture teammates that that we have.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
In that locker room.

Speaker 1 (08:00):
We'll hear more from sarcer right, let's talk about some
NFL here. And like he said, somebody asked about that, Wait.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
A minute, and I didn't. I didn't do justice to
our resident Guardians fan. He said.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
What he was was kind of like an out of
body experience watching what happened with the Guardians win Saturday
followed by the Buckeyes loss.

Speaker 2 (08:22):
Feel sorry for Will Howard.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
He just he just got down too late, slid down
a little bit too late, and he needed to give
himself another and they had a time out to give.
But the problem was going to be did he get
could he get down in time to use the timeout?
He understood, and he made a pointed point that they
were not yet in feel goal range. You get that
that's why you can't run in that situation. You got

(08:45):
to throw for about fifteen yards. I thought they needed
ten to fifteen yards and then you could still use
the middle of the field, but they have to be
quick and then get the time out.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
All right, to the NFL.

Speaker 1 (08:58):
I know you didn't watch the Cowboys, but you've seen
all the highlight recaps, so you're.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
Actually I haven't seen a single snap from the game.
I even not even any highlights.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Okay, so how how then do you prepare yourself to
come talk about this thing?

Speaker 3 (09:14):
I know only forty seven to nine. What's to talk
about in the Cowboys side?

Speaker 1 (09:18):
Just about how dismantled they were during the course and
disheveled and just discombobulated. It just could not get anything
going off. And then I think the defense was worse
than the offense.

Speaker 3 (09:30):
Yeah, the defense, well, all the injuries on the defensive
side of the ball, especially on the defensive line, and
you know, games are won and lost in the trenches,
and so far two of the Cowboys' biggest deficiencies have
been the offensive line and defensive line. And if you
removed to Marcus Lawrence, Micah Parsons from the equation. It's
it's not going to go well, especially with how good

(09:52):
of offensive line Detroit has. I mean, they may have
the best O line in the country. So light work
for the him on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
Light work.

Speaker 3 (10:01):
I mean, if you score forty seven points the National
Football League and correct me if I'm wrong, Craig, there
is no special team touchdowns and there is no defensive touchdowns,
so it all came from offense. That tells you that
Detroit did not break us sweat. I know, I know
Jared Goff had another perfect passer rating. That tells you
how good Detroit Lions played passer rating.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
So social media courses is a blaze, you know, with
all of this and saying you know that Mike McCarthy's
got to be fired, blah blah blah. You know, and
and so we could have probably predicted this. When the
game's over, you know, Jerry Jones is walking and walking

(10:43):
down that long horder there at and T Stadium along
outside thing and then eventually gets to a point where
he does kind of a media briefing needs the only
owner in the NFL who does this. But you know,
gms do news conferences and media availabilities. And he is,
after all, the GF, which frustrates a lot of Cowboy

(11:03):
fans obviously.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
But he was asking.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Now, listen, listen closely to the reporter's question about whether
Jerry was considering or hypothetically considering making a change at
the head coaching job.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
What would it take you to evaluate making a head coaching.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Change in season?

Speaker 5 (11:24):
Oh, I haven't considered that. I'm not considering that, So
you're clear, I'm not considering that. I wouldn't be a
hypothetical in that matter. Do you think I'm an idiot?

Speaker 2 (11:35):
Do you?

Speaker 5 (11:36):
Okay, well, I'm not a little hypothetical with you about
when I'd consider coaching change, and a lot of the
timing we're sitting here with I'm not at all.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
Do you I mean, I'm not going to hypothetical with you.
Do you think I'm an idiot? Yes? The report really
want to answer that truthfully.

Speaker 4 (11:57):
That's the thing.

Speaker 3 (11:58):
Never get allowed back into another Cowboys game as a reporter.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Yeah, that's the deal with that.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
And then, uh so that's been a you know, that's
been a big topic of conversation.

Speaker 2 (12:14):
Is he gonna is he gonna, you know, make a change?

Speaker 5 (12:18):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (12:18):
You know, with with a coaching position. You know, we
pointed out I guess what a couple of weeks ago
about the possibility of uh Wade Phillips and what happened there.
Babel Lothenburger, who of course is the analyst for the
Cowboys and who's been on this program before, tweeted out today,
I know emotions are running high right now for Cowboys fans, understandable,

(12:40):
but they are one game behind Washington. There's six games
into a seventeen game schedule. Calls for firing McCarthy today
are silly. It never ever ever works to fire the
head coach in season. Never, That was his tweet, and
uh At Bark, long time TV critic in the Dallas

(13:01):
Morning News, said, I'd say it worked in the twenty
ten season when Wade Phillips was fired after a one
and seven start. Replacement Jason Garrett then went five and
three as interim head coach before being named permanent head coach.
He's perhaps already reminded you of this. Most of the people, however,
say it's it's.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
It's not about the coach. I'll tell you this. Craig
Bye week this week, you're three and three. Came back
from Washington, but Dallas comes back. Let me remind folks
of the schedule, back to back road games at San Francisco,
who has had the Cowboys number, at Atlanta, who is
getting better each week, home for Philadelphia, which will be
a huge game, and then you're home for Houston and

(13:42):
at Washington and the Commanders may be a top three
team in the league. So these next five weeks, you're
gonna real know, You're gonna know very quickly whether or
not this Cowboys team has any hope of making the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
Yeah, so I agree.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
I don't think firing McCarthy or Zimmer is going to
change in I think there's some team situations like the
Jets or the Jaguars, when obviously they have so much
talent and you're underperforming with that talent and there's so
many coaching mistakes. I think this is the opposite. I
think there's just not enough talent on this Cowboys team.
Their biggest free agency move was signing Eric KENDRICKX, who

(14:18):
has passed his prime, and Ezekiel Ed who's passed his prime.
I don't think coaching changes anything. This all begin in
the off season with the lack of moves that Cowboys
made all right.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Coming up, we'll hear more from Long Warren's head coach
Steve Sarkashan, and we'll talk more about the NFL because, like,
for example, somebody tweeted, why do Cowboys fans ever call
for the coach to be fired? The coaches and the
problem never has been, never will be as long as
the Jones family owns them. And I'm not giving Steven
Jones a benefit of the doubt he will be more
of the same. Maybe he will be, maybe he won't be.

(14:53):
But here's my question. Why are people say, oh, fire
the GM Jerry's gotta go. Forget that, that's never going
to happen. Never that The only way ownership changes happen
in the NFL is a if the owner is broke,
we know Jerry's not broke, or b the owner does

(15:13):
something criminal or something so heinoused so as to be
smirched the league. Daniel Snyder marg shot. You know, there
are examples of it happening, but those are more the
exception rather than the norm.

Speaker 3 (15:31):
And thinks about how long it took to get Snyder out. Yeah,
and the owners didn't even want to really push him out.

Speaker 1 (15:37):
Yeah, So folks need to just stop tweeting about that
or wasting your energy and emotion on that. He's not
going anywhere. And I understand the frustration if you're a
Cowboys fan, you know, like Cam, and can't get behind
him because of how this team is tearing out. That's
how I was back about what ten twelve years ago,
when Frank McCort was owning the Dodgers and running it

(15:59):
into the ground until the team was stand cast and
then the group that Magic Johnson put together basically save
the franchise and the Cowboys are just not going to
be different.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
They're not going to change that. That is not going
to change at.

Speaker 1 (16:14):
All until it might change somewhat with Stephen Jones because
the heat that his old.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
Man is getting right now. But Jerry doesn't care.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
Because the profits are still there, and if you're willing
to pay the money and go to the games, you're
you're lining his pockets and giving him all the more
reason than to make a change.

Speaker 2 (16:32):
All Right.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
We'll hear more from Coazart coming up on Sports Radio
AM thirteen under the Zone.
