Speaker 1 (00:00):
We're glad to have you.
Speaker 2 (00:01):
Welcome to the program here on Sports Radio AM thirteen
hundred of the Zone on this Thursday afternoon. My name
is Craig Way, glad to have you with us, alongside
the producer Cameron d.
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Park of the d On. The birth certificate.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Stands for Dallas, as in the favorite NFL team of
his that he refuses to watch because he is disgusted.
Maybe that's what the d Stands were disgusted right now,
you're disgusted by the Cowboys.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Is that the deal? Disgusted by Jerry Jones.
Speaker 3 (00:27):
Actually, I'm delighted in Jerry Jones' comments because he continues
to just dig himself into a deeper rowl. I haven't
seen one person even try and defend Jerry Jones's comments.
Usually when stuff like this happens, you have like you know,
you get two Yang side of it, right, it's.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
All it's all anti Jerry, all anti Ja.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
So the Devil Stands were delighted because you're delighted that
Jerry's having to squirm a bit.
Speaker 1 (00:53):
Hmm.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Okay, also might stand for the Dogs because the Dogs
are coming into Austin Saturday, and we just found out
are college Game Day Picker is two time Master champions
Guy Scheffer.
Speaker 1 (01:04):
Excited for that.
Speaker 2 (01:05):
The number one ranked golfer in the world to do
the picking, which will include the number one college football
team in the nation as part of the choices. Obviously,
for those of you who are unfamiliar with that dynamic,
when the ESPN College Game Day crew is on site,
they have of course, you know, they're they're guys who
(01:26):
are Rhees Davis.
Speaker 1 (01:27):
Although he doesn't pick no, he doesn't pick no.
Speaker 2 (01:31):
He does like an underdog thing or whatever, but he
does kind of pick yeah. And then and then obviously, uh,
there's Desmond Howard, and there's Pat mcavie, and there's Lee
Corso and Kirk Kerbstreet. But since Kirk Kerbstreet is working
the telecast with Chris Fowler, he doesn't actually pick the
game that he's working so to prevent any appearance of
(01:55):
impropriety or anything like that, so he doesn't make that
he doesn't make us election on the game at hand
that he's working, but he'll pick the other games as well,
so they're all doing that, and then they have a
guest picker, a guest selector, and it's usually someone affiliated
with in some way, shape or form, most notably and
most of the time because are in alumnus.
Speaker 1 (02:16):
Not always, but most of the time.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
And in this case it's going to be Scotti Scheffler
doing the picking there, So that'll be fun. That'll that'll
be on Saturday morning, and of course the game itself
comes your way Saturday evening and you can hear it
right here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Our coverage begins with our long Orange Game Day programming
(02:40):
at three thirty three point thirty Saturday afternoon, three hours
prior to kick three thirty, and then the network pre
game is one hour out but at three thirty over
at the hookme hangout on Beavo Boulevard in the winship
circle will be Cameron Parker, Mike car bull Hard and
(03:01):
Mark Henry.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
They'll set the scene for you there. From three thirty
to five thirty.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Five thirty, we have the network pregame Roger Wallace and
Will Matthew's joining me for that, and then we'll have
the call of the game for you. So big week,
big weekend in this town with also the F one
race going on. I dare you, I dare you to
find a hotel room for less than a thousand bucks.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Oh my goodness.
Speaker 2 (03:21):
If you can find one at all, that is, it's
going to be a little bit difficult. But we have
other things to get to on the program as well.
Certainly we're going to have some breakdown on Texas Georgia.
We'll hear from Long Worn's head coach Steve Sarkisian Sark
with his final local media availability of the week, so
(03:42):
he'll have that, and that's from the weekly zoom that
he does with the area and national reporters, So that'll
be that'll we'll have highlights and comments of that throughout
the course of the program this afternoon, So there's that.
We also have inconceivable later this hour another fast food
(04:05):
update for you, and inconceivable we have that. Additionally, we'll
hear from Texas men's basketball coach Rodney Terry and Texas
women's head coach Bick Schaeffer on the eve of their
seasons getting underway in less than a month, so we'll
hear from those guys. We'll talk NFL football. There is
(04:27):
a Thursday night NFL game tonight. Who's the Thursday night
game tonight? You remember if you asked me hold on.
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Oh, it's a real barn burner, Sean Payton's return to
New Orleans Rockcos Saints, Okay, Okay, bownecks for Spencer Ratler.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Okay, all right, alright. So anyway, so there's there's that.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
There are college games tonight, and also in addition to that,
high school football around the area. In fact, I'll be
working the telecasts with Roger Wallace, who will be on
the play by play call of the game on KBVO tonight,
which is Hendrickson with an unenviable task trying to pull
(05:12):
off an upset of third ranked and unbeaten aim Consolidated.
That is tonight. So that's going on tonight. But there's
other Thursday games as well, Thursday games on the college scene,
and there's baseball. There's baseball early this evening and later
this evening. The American League Championship Series has shifted to Cleveland,
(05:37):
where the New York Yankees hold a two games to
none lead on the Cleveland Guardians. And so Game three
tonight used to be called progressive field. It's called something else,
isn't it. I don't think it's still called progressive, is it.
It's something really stupid, right, just like Guardians is stupid. No,
(05:58):
it is Progressive Field because it used to be called
what was it called before? We called Jacobs Field before, right,
it was initially it was called Jacob's Field. That's where
That's what I remember what it was called. And I
think it's prect Jake, that's Progressive Field. Okay, So they play.
I believe they're starting at five thirty I think or
five and then four eight Central time, four oh eight
(06:21):
Central time.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Okay, all right, first pitch, yeah, okay.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
So that's Game three with the Yankees leading the Guardians
two games to none, and then later this evening is
Game four of the National League Championship Series. The Dodgers
and the Mets in New York. Los Angeles pitched another
shutout last night. They won eight to nothing. Shoe Aotoni
hit a ball that might have landed in Manhattan.
Speaker 1 (06:46):
He hit it in Queens. It was just crushed one.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
It's amazing what his numbers are when he's got runners
on base and when the bases are empty, when the
bases are empty in the postseason, in the postseason, this postseason,
Joey O Tommy's first postseason, when the bases are EMPTI
z oo for twenty two.
Speaker 1 (07:07):
When there are runners.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
I believe in scoring position is the way when his
runners in scoring position, he's seven out.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Of nine at the plate. It's pretty good. Yeah, So
anyway other way around, that's for sure.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
And the Dodgers got some badly needed effective starting pitching
last night out of Walker Bueller and then four relievers
to pitch the shutout Los Angeles, becoming the third team
in Big League history to have three postseason shutouts and
(07:44):
tying map Mark. So tonight the Mets will try to
counter and with Kntana on the mound, and the Dodgers
are going to bring back Yoshinobu Yamamoto, I believe in
one day's less rest than what he's normally accustomed to doing.
It it's not the it would be a regular turn
(08:06):
on regular rest in the rotation. They had been giving
him an extra day or two or whatever. But no
luxury for that right now because the Mets still have
the edge and the starting pitching. But the Dodgers are
going to be pushed to see if they can go
three straight days pushing that bullpen, because that's what they
did last night. They put they got five bullpen innings
(08:30):
last night they have to do it tonight and then
tomorrow before the series would shift back to La if
the Mets win either tonight or tomorrow to force a
game six. So anyway, that's the baseball stuff at stake,
and we'll have more on that coming up. And it's
more college football things to get to as well, So
plenty on tap the day and as always, happy to
(08:53):
have your input, your thoughts, your comments, your questions. All
