Speaker 1 (00:00):
Big game tomorrow for Georgia Tech against Notre Dame, and
it appears as though the Yellowjacket's going to be without
the former Longview Lobo Haines King, their quarterback who had
been at Texas A and M. Of course, had a
broken leg and then has been really really good for
Georgia Tech. He's been dealing with what's called an upper
(00:24):
body injury, considered day to day by Tech coach Brent
Key heading into this matchup with Notre Dame, who is
five and one, the one lost to Northern Illinois. But
Haines King apparently is not going to be able to play.
A backup Zach Pyron will be the starter. Of course.
(00:45):
Pyron has played in sixteen career games, started twice as
a true freshman a couple of years ago, played situationally
in all seven games for Georgia Tech this season, five
and two, accounting for five combined touchdowns. So he, by
the way, is a guy that had snaps for Georgia Tech,
(01:05):
including a rushing touchdown when they beat Florida State in
that opener in Dublin, So he played in there. So
he's going to play him place a King right now.
And King has had a really good collegiate career, especially
most of it at Tech. He's thrown for nearly six
thousand yards, eight passing touchdowns just one interception this year.
(01:26):
With the eight touchdowns, he's also rushed for three hundred
and fifty three yards and six scores. So it's a
big game. Notre Dame is going to be without its
best defensive player, the corner Benjamin Morrison is out for
the rest of the year with a hip injury as well.
And it's not that Notre Dame is a G five
(01:48):
We know they're not obviously that they operate independently as
foot in football, although they play. They have that scheduling
alliance thing with the ACC that's why they play in
Georgia Tech. So they are doing that. But it's important
to watch their matchups and their games because of the
(02:10):
G five effect. With Army and Navy still to play
Notre Dame this season, those are going to be very
very important games down the stretch for G five. It's
kind to the point now, Cameron, because we've we've talked
so much about G five schools and it's come up
(02:32):
more than any other year because of the G five
place in the in the playoff hierarchy that I now
start paying attention to important G five games every week,
whether Army or Navy or Boise State UNLV has the
(02:53):
one loss. North Texas is playing at Memphis tomorrow night.
That's a big one as well. You know, from being
the booth spotting for us for the UTSA and the
ULM games, that we have like four games going on
simultaneously in the booth while we're calling the Texas game.
So there's a good century overload that's going on at
(03:15):
that time. Because we've got one overhead monitor that we
keep squarely on the Texas game, so we can obviously
view for replay. There's a monitor out front that's kind
of split between the TV booth and our booth, and
the TV booth people don't really care because they've got
their own individual monitors of the game. So we put
(03:36):
it on a game of interest. Then we have a
third monitor sitting like to the left side, and we'll
have that on a game of interest, be at SEC
or Top ten or whatever. Then I've got my iPad
to the left where I'll have another game. I usually
put a G five game on there, and to be honest,
(03:56):
sometimes if North Texas is on there. I want to
watch the Alma monitor. Well, it kill two Birds with
one Stone because it kicks off at the same time
as the Texas game, and it's an important G five game.
North Texas a membus. And then Roger Wallace has his iPad.
He's got that quad box thing going on, I think
because what he does the YouTube TV thing once there
was the impasse between DirecTV and UH and Disney, and
(04:20):
so he went he went cord cutting and then he
went to YouTube TV where he gets a quad box
on his So really and truly we're looking at one, two, three, four, five, six.
We've got eight other games going on, seven seven other
games plus the game that we are going on in
(04:42):
the booth at Some people say, how do you concentrate
on the game you're calling, Because you call the game
you're calling, they're just on in the background. There's just
background stuff. It's like if you're at a party and
somebody's got games on any other thing, you see what's
going on there. But if you're talking to a party guest,
you're talking to a party guest. You know, every Texas
game is like a party, you know, just being out
(05:03):
there and watching the game straight a hit. I don't
think I'll have any challenge at all maintaining my concentration
on Texas versus Georgia. It's just it's just good to
have those other games going on, right because it folds
into the dialogue of what we're talking about, Like, what
was it the Tennessee Oklahoma game? Yeah, that was on,
(05:27):
that was pertinents, what was happening, Yes, Texas, Yeah, exactly,
So there'll be some of that. We'll we'll we'll have
that on even as Texas Georgia is kind of the
center of the college football universe. If you will, Tomorrow
Tennessee Alabama gigantic game, but it's earlier in the day.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
There's on ABC ahead of Texas Georgia. So those of
you who will be watching not in attendance because you
didn't want to spend a thousand dollars on a ticket,
there there's a chance that that game is elongated or
goes to overtime, it may overlap with the kickoff of
Texas Georgia.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Well, let me put it to you this way, Cameron.
If the if the Tennessee Alabama game overlaps the start
the kickoff of Texas Georgia. That is a freakishly long
game because it's two. It was three to three. It's
only two thirty. It's a two. Okay, that's four hours.
Should be fine, right, Yeah, And let me also say this,
(06:30):
I know for a fact the Texas Georgia game is
not going to kick right at six thirty. It's going
to be more like six forty five when it kicks,
So I think they'll have time to exit one game, ABC,
have some scoreboard in between, some scenes setting for their
prime time number one matchup, and and then have the
(06:50):
kickoff of it. So I think it's probably gonna be
about six forty five when that happens. We'll see. Hey.
One other thing that I wanted to do here, and
we've been doing this all along, is give you an
opportunity to win tickets to see Tom Segura coming up now.
It's going to be February twenty second. February twenty second
(07:13):
is when Tom Segura will be at Moody Center, and
we've been giving away opportunities for you to win tickets
throughout the course of the week. You do it through
our talkback feature on the iHeartRadio app. So here's how
you do it. If you don't already have the iHeartRadio app,
download it on your phone. Very easy to do. You
(07:35):
just download that, it's free easy. Then you search AM
thirteen hundred the zone, so you do that, and then
there's two buttons, one with a white microphone and one
with a red button with a white microphone. Then there's
there's just a white button to listen to the air,
but you want to tap the red button, the one
with the microphone, and then you leave us a message
(07:58):
with the keyword that you heard on the radio. So
you do that. The keyword today is comedy. That's it. Comedy,
that's the keyword. So if you want to see Tom
Segura on February twenty second, just leave us a message
on the talkback feature of up to thirty seconds say yeah,
(08:20):
I've heard about that, and the keyword today's comedy. So
do that and you're in good Chake. We'll be back
to wrap up our number two on sports Radio AM
thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
