Speaker 1 (00:00):
As we mentioned, let more on Texas Vanderbilt coming up
three o'clock hour. Greg Tapper, managing ed or Dave campbells
Texas Football Magazine to join us to talk both college
and high school football. It's a huge week.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
It really is, by the.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Way, in high school football, a huge week. You've got
west Lake Clay Travis a task a seat at Glena Park,
Nor Shore Columbus against Hitchcock. There are big games all
across the state of Texas this week. We'll talk about
that with him. But also obviously college football in the
lone star state. We'll get to that. Then there's pro football.
(00:38):
The Texans play. I think it's the Colts this week,
and if the Colts win, they'll be in first place.
How about that. You'll figure that out. Joe Flacco, Well,
actually Anthony Richardson's back now on that. But they might
be better with Flaco, I don't know. On the Manning
(01:00):
Cast last night, they showed Joe Flacco's twenty one yard
run in the game earlier this season. They said, that's
the longest run from scrimmage he's had I think of
his career, and he got top end speed of like
eighteen miles per hour FLA. I said, I was so
out of breath I couldn't even call the play in
the huddle afterwards. But the Cowboys come off the bye
(01:22):
week the open date on the schedule, and they have
to go out to Santa Clara to play an angry
forty nine or team that did not play well and
got humbled by the Cheese and lost Brandon Ayuk for
the season.
Speaker 2 (01:34):
And with Deebo Samuel being traded for Ammonia, he may
be out for this game. And of course still no
updates yet on Christian McCaffrey.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
So it's amazing to say that the Rams are two
and fours till like on the fringes of being in
contention in a division.
Speaker 2 (01:52):
They are not out of it whatsoever.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Yeah, but the Cardinals are five and two after winning, Well,
aren't they five and two? No, they're three or four?
Speaker 2 (02:00):
Reading four?
Speaker 1 (02:00):
Yeah, they're three and four. So anyway, it's so Seahawks
Rams are a game.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
And a half back.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
Yeah. Yeah. So anyway, in talking about the NFL, the
Cowboys of course will have to play at the forty
nine ers this week and again last week. I'm sure
you heard about it, read about it. It was it
was in all the papers, it was on all the website.
Things that Jerry Jones when he got Crossways with his
(02:28):
weekly radio guys r J. Chappie and Sean Sheriff and
I can never remember the third guy's name, but anyway,
you got crossways with them.
Speaker 2 (02:37):
But like it's it's like the group that signful an
episode with the three tenors, you know, like Domingo and
then and then and the other guy.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
The other guy, the other guy, the other guy. Well,
the other guy is the producer really and but I
never forget your name because thank you. You're you're very
important part of this program, both not on the board,
not only on board, but also on the air. So
Jerry Jones. And then to make matters more confusing, RJ.
Choppy wasn't even on the show this morning, which we're here,
(03:10):
so you know, coming off of that very tense conversation
this week last week, and then coming off the open date,
what would today's conversation be, Like, I think you're going
to be entertained. This was from one oh five to
three the Fan in Dallas Fort Worth. This is the
Cowboys flagship station, and this is Jerry Jones Weekly Conversation
(03:31):
this morning.
Speaker 3 (03:32):
And the moment that many around the country and the
Metroplex are waiting for is upon us as Jerry is
joining us right now on DFW Sports station. Good morning, Jerry,
how are you on?
Speaker 4 (03:43):
How you doing?
Speaker 3 (03:43):
RJ?
Speaker 4 (03:44):
Good to be on with you guys.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Oh man, that's things, that's things, Jerry.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
RJ is the only one not here today.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
Well I did he want to avoid the confrontations?
Speaker 3 (03:57):
Yes he did, Yes he did, Jerry. What do you
want to say if anything about last week?
Speaker 4 (04:04):
I don't have anything said about last week. I'm happy
though that I must be tell you. I'm surprised that
last week got the attention it got. But you know, really,
when I think about what we try to do on
this show, for me, is I think we give you
(04:28):
two shots a week that I get on and Steven
gets on once or twice, and Mike. I don't know
if Mike gets on or not. But those are really
a privilege. It's kind of like Piloton. You get some
inside stuff. As you know, I don't go before the
(04:52):
normal press conferences during the week usually, and so this
is the kind of thing that I would expect and
how I would answer it relative to many of your questions.
You're going to ask me today because Henry had a
big night, Derrick Henry last night. You're going to ask
(05:15):
me again, how come when Henry was available, and right
here in Dallas said he didn't. We didn't get it.
And I will tell you the same kind of question
is one that my wife might ask me of sixty
something years why did you do that? And I said, well,
(05:36):
I really don't know why I did that. The devil
made me do it. And so my point is those
kinds of questions are pointedly toward putting you on a
spot to make a certain kind of answer. I've obviously
been asked that Derrick Henry question almost every day since
(05:56):
we started training camp, and so that's a get in
your ask type of question. And I understand that I
see that coming, and that's real good. But when you
do it several times, and of course you know, I
keep up with what you guys say when I'm not
on the show, and so when you do it several times,
(06:19):
I know that when you're asked about a question of
such as one that you might have at home of
why did you do that, and you do it several times,
then you really know what the situation is where it's
coming from. So those are the kinds of things that
(06:40):
this show, to me can and build out. For instance,
if you ask me how I make a decision, I
would say I maybe go back to a story of
when I was buying the Cowboys and we got down
to where it was a three hundred thousand dollars different
(07:00):
and we couldn't get by the man that sold the
team to me, and so he suggested we flip a coin,
and we flipped that coin and I lost. I really
got screwed. I ended up with the Dallas Cowboy. My
point is, I don't know why I called heads rather
than tails, and I couldn't explain to you why I
called heads Rytheran tails. But some of this stuff works out,
(07:23):
some of it doesn't. That's the kind of thing and
the kind of answers I would expect us to be
talking about on the show.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Yeah, and I get all that, and normally we're usually
on the same page in terms of the topics and
the subjects. That's why I think last week threw us
off a little bit. But look, man, as I've said
multiple times, Jerry, you've provided us you know, Radio Gold,
and it is a privilege to be able to do
this show with you for fifteen years and we had
(07:52):
some fireworks, and that's the kind of the way I
view it, despite you know, the payment and suspension and
then move the show and all that stuff, because we're
usually in locksteps. So I understand that.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Listen, here's the thing. The fact that we've been doing
it fifteen years of it shows that someplace in between
there we got comfortable in our skin doing these type things,
and we did get comfortable with it. I'm tickled to
death that we have as much interest in this as
(08:26):
we do and as you well know. But guys, I
have no issue and you know that as a matter
of fact, you've said that I have no issue with
getting up in front of a bunch of media and
people of journalism and asking the question and answering, getting
questions and answering, and I don't have any problem with that.
Would you agree with that?
Speaker 3 (08:46):
Yes, totally.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
And again I'm not trying to put words in your mouth,
but the point is that we've in my mind, we're
not playing very good football right now at all. It's
beyond whether or not we have Derrick Henry or not.
Derrick Henry is having a career year. I don't know
(09:08):
if he'd be having that career year in our situation,
and that's really something you really do have to look at,
because if he had not had as many carriers as
our running backs have had, then he certainly probably wouldn't
have attained the level of impact he's having. And then
he's a real good compliment to the type of offense
(09:30):
they run. We don't run that type offense at all.
Our situation is more about, frankly, it's more about holding
your blocks. It's more about not making mistakes. It's more about,
in my mind, the receivers running through a tough man
demand coverage and running on through it. And if you
(09:52):
will get away from the types of things that we
all think we should to be looking at, is well,
we're designing bad plays or we're designing bad concepts. The
facts are that there's some of that, but there's also
some of the execution. There are some of the talent.
(10:18):
I like our talent. I really do like our talent.
I like our young talent, but young talent has a
few more mistakes associated with it than that. If you
are dealing with a veteran player, although you've got to
have young talent. As I've said, Derrick Henry didn't fit
because principally of managing the cap, of managing the cap
(10:40):
and anticipation of the players that we were going to
sign weeks later, or anticipation of the players we're going
to be signing in the future.
Speaker 3 (10:49):
Jerry Jones here on.
Speaker 1 (10:51):
Yeah, that was it. That was the most entertaining part.
There was one other thing they said something with regard
to what was the deal with.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
I think it was wide receiver of the situation.
Speaker 1 (11:06):
I was trying to remember. It came who was the
former Cowboys wide receiver with Cleveland, Marik Cooper, A Maury Cooper.
There was there was a deal. He said something something
with regard to that, But it wasn't. It wasn't it
wouldn't you would.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
Say they said, we went for dollars when we traded
Amrii Cooper Poper Cooper, we saved almost twenty million dollars
for a cap in the future. We took a lesser
draft pick to get that savings. When he made this
move the other day, Cleveland went for more draft picks
and less savings. It was very simple. Yeah, because remember
when the Cowboys traded Mariy Cooper to Cleveland. It was
(11:44):
for a fifth round draft pick. After remember they traded
for him for a first round draft pick. That's right,
Cleveland traded him the Buffalo last week for a third
round draft pick.
Speaker 1 (11:53):
Yeah, so they were saying, how does something like that
happen when you traded for him for a first round,
you unloaded him for a fifth round and then they
were able to trade him for a third round and
he basically said it was about dollars and cents.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
They were able to.
Speaker 1 (12:08):
Save it cap money by doing it that way. So anyway,
it sounds like Jerry's back on good terms with uh
with those morning guys at one, five to three of
the fan All right, up next, we'll bring it today's
edition of Inconceivable here on sports Radio AM thirteen under
the zone of the iHeartRadio Am
