Speaker 1 (00:00):
A Tuesday evening and afternoon. That's about to be Tuesday evening.
So we're glad to have you with us, Craig Way
alongside the producer Cameron Parker. We have not broached the
subject yet. We need to do it right now. Opening
night in the NBA esh opening night in the NBA

(00:22):
Nick Celtics just ended Tea Wolves Lakers opening Night tonight.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
You are the resident NBA honk in this building. I mean,
I like it.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Obviously, I'm a huge Dallas Mavericks fan. But and I
do have the NBA League Pass at home. I've had
that the first time. I've had it for twenty six
I've had it longer than I've had NFL Sunday ticket
because the NFL Sunday ticket went the YouTube bridles we
know last year, so that was my exit.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Out of that.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
But I've had the NBA League Pass package since nineteen
ninety eight. I had the NHL Center Ice package a
couple of years ago. I thought, I'm watching maybe three
games a year.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Out of that. My schedule is only allow me to.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Make it catch three or four games or otherwise I'll
come home late at night after calling the game. Folks
have asked me, what do you do when you get
off the air and you've called a basketball game? Say
it home, a Texas men's or women's game, and let's
just say, for example, a men's game that started like

(01:26):
at eight o'clock for television, a big Monday game or
some other game.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
You know, what do you do? Do you go? You fall
straight into bed?

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Well, a lot of times I can't do it because
you're still kind of revved up from calling the game,
the the adrenaline and all of that. So I'll get home.
So I'm home. It's after eleven, eleven fifteen or whatever.
Most everybody's you know whatever, Linda's headed off to bed.
The dog might sit up with me. Might if she's
feeling otherwise. She'll go in there, you know, to go

(01:54):
to bed when Linda does, and I'll just kind of
kind of sink into a chair and I'll turn on.
There'll be a late night NBA game on. You know,
it's like, okay, here it is eleven forty seven. I
should be in bed. Both the Kings and the Timberwolves,
or midway through the third quarter or.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Something like that. It'll be something. And it was like
that way for a while. For hockey.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
The other Kings Los Angeles came where it might be
maple Leafs at Canucks or something. I finally said, this
is ridiculous. Go to bed, Go to bed. So I
got rid of the hockey package. I do have the
baseball package, so I can watch the Dodgers, obviously, and
I probably watched close to one hundred when I watched
close to one hundred Dodger games a year during the season.

(02:43):
That's why I'm such a big fan and all that
is part of that built out into that. But it
is Opening Night in the NBA, So you're the resident
NBA honk, So are you? Are you fired up for it?
I mean, is it both on TNT header Nick Celtics,
and then you got t Wolves and like Nick Celtics,

(03:05):
what that rematch of the Eastern Conference Finals, believe so yeah?
And then you got t Wolves Lakers and they're fascination
with the Lakers despite the fact that the Lakers probably.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Are not going to be good this year. Right, So
it was Celtics Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. Live
Celtics Pacers. That's right?

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Okay, all right, So but you got Nick Celtics tonight.
What's it called T D Garden. What's it called, yeah,
yeah Garden. Yeah. And then and then t Wolves, Lakers,
and the Lakers are despite adding Bronnie James. Be that
as it may, they're not expected to be very good,

(03:45):
are they?

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Well, depending on if you're on Twitter and you follow
the lebron James stand accounts, this is the greatest team
of all time and Bronnie James is going to be
I don't know, two thousand and ten, Dwayne Wade apparently
that's not the case. Correct of the year. This is, yeah,
I will And then it sounds like a large amount
of betters are betting on Bronnie James to win Rookie

(04:08):
of the Year in the NBA. Really, which is how
Las Vegas stays Las Vegas because you have idiots like
that or who are betting on Bronnie James to win
the If you put him in the G League for
every game, he would not even win come close to
being the G League MVP. No, no disrespect to Bronnie James.
That's just he's just not an NBA caliber player yet,

(04:29):
even though he's on an NBA team. But you know,
there's a different discussion for that. So Lakers. I think
there'll be another playing team, Craig. You know, we'll see
what JJ Reddick does. A lot of hope with him
and his offensive prowess. But the good chance we're in
December and we've already we're already reading articles about his
JJ Reddick on the hot seat, who could fill in

(04:50):
for you know, stuff like that. So we'll see with
the Timberwolves, you know, and the two teams who play
the night not playing each other. But you have the
next Celtics and then the t Wolves. Lakers remembered the
t Wolves in the Knicks a month ago made a
huge trade sending Julius Randall to New York, or excuse me,
Julius Randall and Dante Chi Vincenzo to Minnesota. Minnesota sends

(05:15):
Karl Anthony Towns to New York. So we'll see how
both these teams look. I think the t Wolves are
going to be a great team to start. I think
Anthony Edwards will be on a mission. I like him
a lot for MVP this year, alongside SGA and Luka
Doncics perhaps, so I think it'll be fun to watch tonight.
We already know what the Celtics are. I think they
are by far the team to beat, not just the

(05:37):
Eastern Conference, but in the league, you know, coming off
as defending champions, and honestly, with the whole Team USA thing,
with Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown being left off the team,
that's the worst thing that could happen to the league, Craig,
because you have Jaylen Brown, who already won finals MVP,
had his best season, yet gets left off the team.

(05:58):
And I understand why he did not fit with that
team whatsoever. It was not a Jaalen Brown thing. It
was just a chemistry thing already with Katie and Lebron
and Steph and so many guys who were on ball
that pissed off Jayleen Brown. And you know, Rightfley, so
for Jalen Brown, so he's gonna come in this season,
you know, ready to prove everybody wrong. And then Jason

(06:18):
Tatum did not play well at all at Team USA
in the summer, and you know, maybe he was just
tired and just celebrating the ring, and I don't think
he's fitting well with that team as well. So those
two guys, I think they have something more to prove
now this season. The team comes back. Christops will be back,
probably in December, but you know, they were able to
really make that playoff run without him. So I think

(06:39):
the Boston Celtics is going to be the best team
in the record the season this year. I think they're
gonna come out firing, but it will be fun to
see how the next the new look Knicks look and
how the new look Timberwolves look Tonight.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Which of these games that is just two games tonight
tomorrow is the main thrust and a few more on Thursday.
Which of these games Tomorrow night most intrigues you for
a season opener, an eighty two game schedule.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
See just a quick look at the schedule.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
I was going to guess who we're gonna say, Bucks, Sixers.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
Well, I maybe, but we're Georges and Joel Embiid are
not playing Opening night at home? You're at home. I'm
guessing it's probably going to be on ESPN. Oh, it
is it is. And guess what. Two of the three
biggest players in the game aren't playing. This is why
nobody pays attention to the NBA and the regular season, Craig,

(07:29):
Two of the three superstars aren't playing. But you know,
understand you want to keep your guys healthy, but that's
still a problem needs to be fixed. I think the
game I think I'm most interested in.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
Horn's Rockets is Chicago New Orleans.

Speaker 2 (07:43):
I want to see how Lonzo Ball looks. You know,
for us NERD NBA fans, you know, we've kind of
gotten obsessed with Lonzo Ball, and you know he's had
a lot of knee surgeries and you know, he's worked
his way back to be able to play this season,
so we hope he's okay. In for New Orleans, the
team that features Zion Williamson, CJ McCollum, Brandon Ingram, you know,

(08:05):
a year ago playoff team and they're going to go
in this season with a lot of you know, rumors circulating.
Is Ingram on the trade block? What's going to happen
with Zion? They could be a team that may end
up being sellers at the trade deadline. We could see
Ingram on the Lakers or the Warriors or whoever. So
want to see how they look. I think that that's
the game that I'm most interested in. Phoenix Clippers should

(08:28):
be interesting as well. You know, Katie and the Sun's back.
The Clippers with is Kawai no ready for the opener. No, no,
I don't think Hawhi has played an opener since twenty eighteen. Yeah,
twenty nineteen, so goodly back. It's gonna be a long season.
But again, the NBA does not start until it's all start.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
See, I can tell you tomorrow night, Tomorrow night, after
after long wor and weekly we coach start tomorrow when
we do the show take, we're going to go home and.

Speaker 2 (08:54):
You know, Lyndon and I'll have dinner and then they
watch something or that.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
But as the evening grows later that Phoenix Clippers has
some interest for me, and then even I might peek
in on Warriors and Trailblazers only because it can having
the the NBA package, it's a later night thing. For
those who are wondering about the Spurs and the Mavericks. Uh,
they each open their seasons on Thursday against each other.

(09:17):
Nice they play in Dallas and that's a TNT game
on Thursday. You know, there's a lot of hubbub in
the Metroplex because of the Mavericks new TV package.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
And what a.

Speaker 1 (09:29):
Lot of folks in the Dallas for or therea are
hoping is that the Rangers and the Stars take good
notice of this. Now all three have exited from what
was Ballet Sports Southwest. By the way, it's not Ballet
Sports anymore. It's now run by fan Duel. Well, it's
run by Diamond Sports, which is owned ultimately by Sinclair Broadcasting,

(09:52):
but the name on it won't be bally going for
In fact, it already changed automatically on my app.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
I noticed has already changed to Fan Duel on the
app ready. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (10:04):
Now, I don't think we're calling it that on the
High School Show for obvious reasons, but anyway, it's it's
it's that they're hoping that that I think fans are
hoping that those other pro sports franchise take note of
what the Mavericks said. You hear what the Mavericks did
every single one of their games that aren't on network TV,

(10:29):
and they're going to play quite a bit on that
work TV. But the times they don't out of eighty
two games probably seventy i'd say, if not more, or
on free over the air television in Dallas for worth,
that's awesome. They're either most of them are on a
station that would be like saying KBVO down here or
the CW down here. It's on channel twenty nine, which

(10:51):
is owned by w FAA. It's KFAAA KFAA.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
And then that big cell tower you're driving in. Yep.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
They most of the games the over the year, games
that are not on network TV will be on that signal.
And then they've got like fifteen games that are on
just the ABC affiliate Channel eight. There's like fifteen games
on that, and then the other like fifty five or
however many maybe it's fifty or whatever, or on the channel.

(11:21):
Every single game that isn't on picked up by like
TNT like Thursday Nights Opener or some of the others,
every single one is on free over the air television.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
Oh it should be creczy. Yeah, yeah, twenty four. I'm
with you. I'm with you as a and as a
NBA League Pass guy.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
That's how I'll get to see the Mavericks, you know,
obviously since they're a out of town team, because this
is a Spurs market after all, and I like the
Spurs as well and obviously keep up with them also.
All right, we've got football notes to get to and
more conversation with long warm players when we continue on
Sports Radio AM thirteen Under the Zone.
