Speaker 1 (00:00):
Let's go back to some of the conversations that we've
had this week that our man Will Matthews sideline reported
for Long Worn Football is next how we're going to
hear his conversation with Jayden Blue, the Long Orn's running back.
But he also had a chance to sit down with
one of the guys. And when we've joked about this,
David ben and I have joked about this about him
(00:23):
being what the old school term was for guys who
were seniors, fifth year seniors, or in his case, a
sixty year senior old heads. And he said, yeah, yeah,
I've heard that. I've heard that old head is the thing.
But he is a very wise young man and a
(00:43):
big part of this Long Warn football team. And Will
Matthews had a chance to visit with David Benda.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
It's only an l if you don't learn from it.
And I know that the defense and of course the
offense learned. Talk about adversity and why are you guys
so able to handle it versus the the way that
you are.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
I would just say, honestly, we're a team that loves
each other, and we're a team that's very talented and
talent and love means just guys who are gonna take
that talent, but they're gonna take that talent and push
it past the point of just what they're talk what
they're used to, and just trying to make sure they
apply effort to do whatever it takes to win. And
I feel like one thing that I learned about our
(01:21):
team is that we we love each other a lot
and we will.
Speaker 4 (01:25):
Do whatever it takes.
Speaker 3 (01:26):
Because to be able to do what we did and
have the situation we were in and come back into
half and be as close as it was, I would
just say I learned that, Okay, obviously we didn't perform
to our best as a holistic football team, but we
love each other and when.
Speaker 4 (01:40):
We put it all together, we're gonna be We're a.
Speaker 3 (01:43):
Dang good football team, you know. And that's just something
I love about it. From top to bottom, everyone understood
that we didn't play our best, and even the younger guys,
like just seeing them and trying to build them up
and then let them understand that, yeah, I know it hurts,
but we just gotta bounce back. It just helped me
to know that we're gonna be really good down the stretch,
and it's gonna help.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
Us win games, and it can be difficult in the
sense of everybody loves you when you win, and then
you lose, everybody thinks everything is the world's ending. But
we all know it's not talk about how how you
move forward from this because it's not over.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
It's not over man.
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Like I said, we're a very talented team and we
care about each other, and we understand that this is
the same situation situation we were in last year with
losing the OU, But we understand that every game from
now on council. But at the same time, we're very
talented and we have a lot still left in the
season and nothing's set in stone, So I understand that
(02:42):
with this week, we got to understand that vnder bilts
a lot of team that's gonna just take us lightly.
They are our team that's well versed in upsets and
taking on big headed teams, and like as then you
saw the Alabama game, I really know what they're about.
So with us, we just got to hone in on
the little details that helped us to win and understand
our Obviously, we got to learn from the past mistakes
(03:03):
that we had clean up those mistakes, and obviously understand
the little nuances and details that are going to help
us to be Vanderbilt. So I'll just say it's gonna
be a lot of learning and a lot of just
grinding and just coming even closer than ever.
Speaker 4 (03:16):
You know what I'm saying. We gotta you just got
to understand the.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Obviously everyone around us is taking this loss bigger than
it needs to be.
Speaker 4 (03:23):
That's fine.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
We all we got, we all we need, and the
people in the field understand that whatever we gotta do,
we gotta do it and just win.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
I guess Vnderbolt and taking when we get a time.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
When you're looking in the mirror.
Speaker 2 (03:35):
After after something like that, what how do you encourage yourself?
And also like even you know you you guys, the
way you have rotated in there's just long ago files
on the field more everybody's doing, everybody's got their different role,
and you still come out and bring out what seven
tackles from this last game to tell us about that,
(03:57):
like the culture that you have inside of that side,
that linebacker room and just the next man up kind
of I would.
Speaker 3 (04:04):
Just say, man, the linebacker room is a talented room,
but it's also one big, happy family, you know, what
I'm saying, it doesn't matter who's in, who's ever's in
is going to be able to do whatever they need
to do. And that's the thing about us. It's not
about the rep count. It's about making your reps count.
So that's how we all look at it as a whole.
And we understand that regardless of the the regardless of
(04:25):
our production, we didn't come out with a win. And
that's the stat that sticks out to us the most, honestly,
And all the guys we have in the they're well
versed in whatever role we have because we are on
the lot, we're involved in special teams and some guys
are involved in a lot of that as well.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
It's just i'd say, one big family.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
But we also understood that there's a lot more that
we could have done to help win this game, and
just cause more place that could have just helped us, honestly.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
So putting that one aside and getting ready. Of course,
Vandy's got like you said, they upset Central. They're they're
looking for that kind of thing. But even that, I
know how you guys are looking internally on yourselves. Keeping
the main thing, the main thing walking into this week,
what should we expect from the long Wards man, we.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Should expect just the holistic football team.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
Man.
Speaker 3 (05:17):
That's why I'm so I'm hoping, That's why I'm gearing
towards and just understanding that we're going to expect the
hungry your team because we understand that what we put out,
the product we put out.
Speaker 4 (05:27):
Last week wasn't the best.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
It wasn't us at a standard, and we got to
you know what I'm saying, the standards the standard.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
So expect the standard.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
Yeah, expect the standard.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
So wise words from David Bender's long Wards looked about
back this week taking on Vanderbilt. Hey, I wanted to mention,
now is your opportunity to have a shot to win
a pair of tickets to see Brooks and Done at
Moody Central March fourteenth. And this is how you do
it pretty easy if you don't already have the iHeartRadio
(05:57):
app downloaded on your phone and do it.
Speaker 5 (06:00):
It's easy, it's free, it's no hassle.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
You just download on your smartphone be it you know, whatever, iPhone, Android,
whatever it might be. You you download the iHeartRadio app.
Once you have downloaded, then you search AM thirteen hundred
the zone just like that and it pops up, and
when it comes up, you're going to see two buttons.
(06:24):
One is a little white button a little triangle, and
that's to listen to the programming.
Speaker 5 (06:29):
But the one you want to.
Speaker 1 (06:29):
Zero in on is the red button that has a
little white microphone. You pop that one, and that is
our talkback feature, and you leave us a message up
to thirty seconds and you tell us the keyword that
you heard on the program. And I'm about to tell
you the keyword for today, So you pop that white
microphone there off the red button. You say, yeah, Orge,
(06:52):
you're going to give away tickets and Brooks and Done.
I was listening.
Speaker 5 (06:54):
I heard today's keyword is boogie, as in bootscoot. Boogie
is the keyword.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
So you do that and just put that on the
recording there on the talkback feature, and then you're entered
into the drawing for a pair of tickets to see
Brooks and Done. We'll be back to wrap up aboutur
number two on sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone
