Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone, Craig
Way alongside Cameron Parker. Glad to be with you here
on this Wednesday afternoon. A reminder following this program Theay,
I'm going to head over to Pluckers and get ready
for Long Worn Weekly with Coach Sark. If you like
to hear from the head coach, come on out to
Pluckers the West Campus location at twenty two to twenty
two Rio Grand. We'll be there to record the program
(00:23):
from six to seven. It will air tomorrow night here
on the Zone at seven o'clock, so we'll hear Sark
talk about the Georgia game and getting ready for Vanderbilt
and all of those things. We also have a special guest,
Derek Dockery, who was part of Mac Brown's first ever
recruiting class outstanding offensive lineman, also played in the NFL.
(00:43):
We'll have him out there with us. So there's a
lot of stuff that we'll get to tonight on the
program here on sports Radio AM thirteen hundred The Zone.
Coming up in a few minutes, we're going to talk
about the Vanderbilt Commodowares in specific with Andrew Alligreta. They're
play by play voice. Also another one of Will Matthews
conversations coming up this hour as he visits with long
Wards running back Jayden Blue. So that's coming up this
(01:06):
hour as well. Okay, so you mentioned that you weren't
really into the Brownie thing. You did watch it tonight tonight? Yeah,
pretty much a full slate of games on the NBA.
There's a TNT doubleheader tonight too, right.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
I think it's ESPN right because Wednesday, Oh that's right,
TNTs Tuesday Thursday. ESPN is glad you keep track of that.
I think it's Wednesday Friday. I think you're right about that. Yeah, so.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
Bucks Sixers, I believe is tonight.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
That's one of.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Those who, by the way, will not have Yeah, embiid
or Paul George. They're playing on National TV, Craig, it's
Opening night and your two best players aren't playing. So
I'm sure Adam Silver and all the all the guys
at Yes Spinner is thrilled that they get to watch.
(02:04):
Who's even on Philadelphia? I probably should have looked that up.
It's not I know, h tyree max Maxie. So you
know Maxie's probably gonna drop at least thirty points. So
if you're looking for some wagering there so, but noan Beid,
No George Paul George. So get to see a whole
a lot of Reggie Jackson and Kelly Oopra.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
There you go.
Speaker 2 (02:26):
Yeah, load management already in full full swing. That's how
you know the NBA's back. Quiet Leonard, by the way,
came out today. Out for a few weeks with knee inflammation.
What are the odds? He's just like in cobble right now,
getting the call of Hey, you know, Quiet, the season
starts today. Yeah, no, no, the regular season. Okay, you know,
(02:49):
let me just you know, I'll start packing up and
you know, we'll see in a few weeks.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
No, no, we meet you tonight.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
We're right, all right, let me, uh, James Harden's gonna
have a lot of fun, a lot of fun. Let
me run down these games, and you tell me what
your interest level is and what fans might find interesting
if they were to stumble into a sports bar or
if they had NBA League pass or whatever.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Okay, all right, Indiana Detroit.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
Indiana coming off the Eastern Conference finals. You know a team,
can they take another step forward? And I'm curious to
see how Tyreus Halliburton looks this year. The first half
of last year, he was an All Star and then
he has the injury comes back and he you know,
he was all right, he wasn't great, So you know,
(03:37):
is that just because he was still maybe injured possibly
or can we see him take another next step before
the scene? And of course Detroit, who had an abysmal year,
a new coach, new GM have a lot of fun
names in the roster. They could be a fun league
pass team to watch. But we'll be curious to see
how they look to start the season. Okay Cleveland at Toronto. Okay,
(04:01):
Cavaliers a team that I think we expected more this
past season. You know, of course Chared Allen, the former
Texas Longhorn.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
With them.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
Evan Mobley still will kind of figure out where is
he at, what's his ceiling as an NBA player. So
Cavaliers team that I think has aspirations to, you know,
be a top four team in the East, but also
a team that you know, sneakily may end up being
a trade candidate team for Donovan Mitchell if things aren't
(04:36):
working out first half of the year, probably going to
hear some trade room or start the Heat up with
Donovan Mitchell or possibly other players on the team, So
curious to see what happens with them, including Darius Carlin.
Speaker 1 (04:49):
Right we mentioned Milwaukee, Philadelphia, Orlando.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
At Miami Magic a team kind of like the Thunder
where you know, they have a young roster, Paula Ben Carroll.
They just went ahead and re signed Suggs to a
lot of money thirty three million dollars a year. But
Magic team who's big move this offseason was adding con
Davis Caldwell Pope. They're They're a team that I'm curious,
(05:13):
you know, if we get to the trade deadline, you know,
and they're kind of stuffing around the top, or if
they're not sniffing around the top, what moves are in
place for them? Because they have a good core Craig,
But I still look at the roster, I think there's
still one player away from being a true contender in
the Eastern Conference. But a fun fun thing to watch
in Miami, I know, I know Spolstra and Heat culture
(05:36):
had done it year after year that they take a
team that you don't think is going to be good
and make them and they go all the way to
the conference finals.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
Or sometimes the NBA Finals.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
But you know, I think the East is too good
and the rest of the league is starting to catch
up to them.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Let's see what else we got, Bulls, Pelicans, you express
him interesting.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yeah, Alonzo Ball Finally, you know, he's been out for
the last I think at least two years.
Speaker 3 (05:59):
You know, I was hitting knee injury.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
I really hope that for his sake and for us
NBA fans, that he's like at least eighty percent of
what he used to be. Of course, you know, with
knee injuries like that, you don't know. Of course, Chicago
fans know a lot about that. With Derek Rose, you
know who his MVP, goes down with that knee injury
in the second round and was never really the same
d Rose as he was before that. And a New
(06:24):
Orleans team that has a fun roster Zion Williams, Trey Murphy,
Herb Jones, Brandon Ingram, CJ. McCollum, but a team that
has always just underachieved. Now Scion's coming in the best
shape he's been in his entire career. But a team
that wanted the trade brandon Ingram this summer could not
find any suitors, so we'll see what he's like in
(06:46):
the locker room for that. But a New Orleans team
that wants to be an actual playoff team, not a
playing team, but again a team that I'm watching when
it comes to the trade deadline. Okay, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Brooklyn
who is tanking.
Speaker 3 (07:01):
They have I think two first round drafts.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Eddie Orrin, who is in their employees, said they have
four first round draft four four, which is an NBA record.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
Well I'm curious what the protections are on those, but yeah,
Gi the Nets who are going to be just got
awful this upcoming year.
Speaker 3 (07:16):
They're going to be brutal to watch. And Atlanta, you know,
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (07:19):
I mean, if you like, if you like Tree Young
by the way, Okay, so Nets, they have the next
pick no protections that came for the mckel bridges trade, who,
by the way, absolutely awful last night. They have Milwaukee's
first round pick that's a top four protection, and then
they have a pick swap with ok C, Houston or Phoenix.
A lot going on, and then they have their own
(07:40):
first round draft picks. So Milwaukee, who is not going
to be a bottom four team, the next no protection,
which is absolutely wild then twenty twenty four, there's no
protections on a draft pick, but the next should be
a playoff team. Yeah, you're thinking that'll be in the twenties.
Milwaukee's pick will be in the twenties. Their own pick
should be lottery for sure. And then twenty twenty five,
(08:04):
okay See has to right the swap its first round
draft pick for Houston's first round pick, which is top
ten protected, or the clippers twenty twenty five first round pick,
which is going to be a good pick because they're
going to absolutely stink. And then Houston has the right
the swap back its pick to okay See or to Brooklyn.
A lot going on there. You definitely lost me, but
(08:25):
they have at least three picks.
Speaker 1 (08:27):
Sorry, I asked Memphis at UTAK. A lot of people
are sleeping on Memphis.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
This is the team that two years ago was the
number one seed with John Moran, and then injuries kind
of picked up with him and other players on the team.
And then last year, of course, he goes in he
suspended for all the gun stuff going on. Right, he
comes back, they look actually decent when he was there,
and then he's out for the entire season. But Can
they stay healthy? Can Jaron Jackson stay healthy? He's already injured.
(08:56):
But you know that they made some good moves. They
have Marcus Smart. There's a team that I think is
the oh hey, we forgot about them team going into
the season.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
I'm really highe.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
Memphis light me round onto Golden State Portland, and then
Phoenix at the Clippers.
Speaker 2 (09:10):
Golden State just fun. The watch for Steph. That's about it.
Phoenix Clippers fun. The watch for Katie. That's about it.
All right.
Speaker 1 (09:17):
Up next, we'll talk about the Vanderbilt Commodores with their
play by play voice Andrew Alligretta, who joins us next
on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of the
Iart Radio AM
