Texas to eight one five three zero, followed by your message.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
Standard message and data rates may apply.

Speaker 2 (00:20):
All right. Back to some more sound from Longhorn's head coach,
Steve Sarkisian.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
We'll do that.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
And before we do that, I didn't want to forget it.
Wanted to make sure that we made you aware of
your chance to win a pair of tickets to see
Brooks and Done and that comes up on March fourteenth

(00:51):
at Moody Center. And here's how you can be in
the drawing to try to win tickets for it. You
download the iHeartRadio app on your smartphone. Evan already done that.
And even if you do have it, or once you
get it downloaded, you search for AM thirteen under the zone.
You tap that red button that has a white microphone
in it, and then just leave us a message with
the keyword that you heard here on this program. Today's

(01:14):
keyword is moon moon, So any there you go, like
neon moon as in neon Moon. That's exactly right. The
brooksn't done hit, So that's all you have to do. Again,
AM thirteen under the zone, you pull it up there
to the iHeartRadio app, tap that red button with a
white microphone, and you leave us a voice message that's
on the talk back and you say I heard it,

(01:36):
that it is Moon and that's exactly what it is.
So with that, now we go back to hearing from
head coach Steve Sarcasian from the Wednesday or Thursday media zoom.
It's his final media meeting of the week and does

(01:58):
that on a zoom and he was asked about the
running backs, how have they looked in practice and how
imperative does he believe it is to get the running
game going against Vanderbilt.

Speaker 3 (02:11):
I have a ton of respect for well, it'd be helpful,
you know, I've said before. You know, we're always at
our best when we have balance, and you know, I
think the run game kind of got the spotlight put
on it because of the way last week went. You know,

(02:32):
we had thirty eight yards at half and I don't
care how we got those thirty eight yards. Nothing was
really good the run game, nor the past game. But
when you're behind twenty three to nothing, you kind of
have to throw it to try to get back into
the game. I thought in there there was a few
runs that got going for us, But the reality of
it is we need to play better offensive football. And
part of playing better offensive football is finding that balance

(02:56):
and running the football with effectiveness, trying to find some
explosive of runs. And I think the runners are ready
to go with I think the lines ready to go.
It's obviously been a you know, they've been challenged all week,
predicated on how last week went, and uh looking forward
to them uh taking the field and and with something
to prove that that that we're a physical football team.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
We can run the ball well.

Speaker 2 (03:15):
Speaking of challenges, he was asked about the challenge of
facing that dual threat quarterback that tough as nails, senior
transfer Diego Pavia.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
I have a ton of respect for Diego Pavia.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
You know he he's a real dual threat, you know
he Uh he the the designed runs at quarterback are
one thing. The triple option aspect of what they do
is another thing. And then the scramble ability to extend
drives is a is a third element that he has.
And then to couple that with his ability to throw
the ball, uh and extend plays and throw the ball.

Speaker 2 (03:47):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
That the key to the drill to me is I
think being really disciplined. You know, you got to be
disciplined in the run game and your run fits. You
got to be disciplined in the in the triple option game,
and then you've got to be disciplined in your rush
lanes and trying to collapse that pocket and not give
them anywhere to escape.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Okay, all right now. He was asked questions about motivation,
you know, coming off the loss to Georgia as motivation,
and this was our friend Cedric Golden asked the question, said,
you know that it's not I think he said, it's
not our grandparents Vanderbilt, and it isn't. And does it
help facing a team that's no longer a pushover?

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Well, I think for us, we don't know any different.
You know, we didn't play Vanderbilt. Our guys don't know.
All they know is this is the top twenty five
matchup on the road with a sellout crowd, you know,
So we know that the challenge that we're faced with.
We know what's on tape and what they look like.
And so we're not players that have that have played
against Vanderbilt. They just know that, Hey, here's the top

(04:44):
twenty five team that beat Alabama, that beat Kentucky, that
probably should have beat Missouri.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
We know it's going to be a heck of a challenge,
all right.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
Next on the list was finding success on the road.
This was our colleague Roger Wallace asked this question about
about the Keys to try to find success on the road,
because they've been able to do that not only this
season but in the past.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (05:07):
No, I think one thing we've we've found a kind
of our rhythm on the road, and I think there's
something to be said when you go on the road
of you know, you only bring in seventy four guys,
you're in the friendly confines of a hotel and kind
of the visitors' locker room that's a little bit kind
of smaller in that sense, and the sidelines there's less people,
feels a little bit more intimate that way.

Speaker 1 (05:28):
But I think our guys embraced going on road. You know,
we're we.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Are the University of Texas. We go on the road,
the game's going to be sold out. They're gonna be
sold out because their fans buy a lot. It's going
to be sold out because Longhorn Nation supports us as well.
As they do, and so we appreciate that and we
need their support Saturday. So I just think that that
we found our rhythm. I think we've embraced the challenges
on the road when we do go on the road,

(05:54):
and I think we played with a lot of confidence
on the road. And so we're excited about this one again,
top twenty five match ship on the road, sell out crowd.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
We're looking forward to the opportunity, all right.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
He was also asked about a mental hurdle with the
fact that Quinn Youwers had mentioned maybe he didn't feel
like he was psychologically as well as physically all the
way back coming off the injury. So is there a
mental hurdle that a quarterback has to overcome in that situation?

Speaker 3 (06:23):
Well, I think, you know, hey, we're we're going into
game number eight. I don't know if the guy on
our team is one hundred percent, you know. So the
life of a competitor is a football player. You learn
to operate with those things that are that are going
on with you. An ankle, a calf, a shoulder, a knee,
an oblique, you know, whatever, you know, stingers, you know
there there's we've they've all got stuff, and so I

(06:46):
don't think but by any means, and I don't know
how the question was phrased.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Do I think Quinn was using that as a crutch
or an excuse.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
I just think that's the reality of We're in week
eight of a season and everybody's dealing with stuff. But
I thought Quinn's have a good week of work. I
think he's really dialed into the game plan. I think
he's playing with a lot of confidence. And again I'm
looking forward to him to get in another opportunity as
a competitor, uh to go back out and compete at.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
A high level.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
And one final comment asked about Cedric Alexander and we
did see on the injury report today that Cedric's listed
as questionable, but we're all pretty much expecting to see
him out there the LBJ product. And he was asked
about the threat that Alexander brings to this game.

Speaker 3 (07:30):
I really liked him as a player. You know, he's
obviously a very good runner. But but one area where
you know, I try to evaluate kind of players is
watching block This guy's a really physical blocker.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
You know, they a lot of the quarterback run stuff
they do.

Speaker 3 (07:44):
He's a lead blocker, a physical player, plays hard, runs hard,
you know, kind of embodies I think the style of
play that that Vanderbilt is trying to play with. You know,
they're a physical team. They play with great effort and
and I think he's he's had it. He's had a
great so far. So it's gonna be a good challenge
for us.

Speaker 2 (08:03):
So we'll see. We'll see obviously if he's good to go.
He is listed as questionable for the game, but I
have a feeling we'll probably see him out there.
