Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hopefully Texas fans will not be throwing objects like Morgan
Wallen did from his bar in Nashville after the game
on Saturday, as Texas tries to bounce back from last
week's loss to Georgia, their first loss of the regular season,
losing thirty to fifteen in a game that I think
was a game of two halves first half that Texas
(00:20):
fans want to forget zero points on the board. Quin
viewers gets pulled in the second quarter for arch Manning
does not change the game whatsoever Texas makes makes it
a one score game. The second half came out with
two really good drives on offense, one thanks to some
sort of a squib on side kick attempt from Georgia.
(00:41):
Texas drives down the field, gets a stop on defense,
and then the course the Shade Barren interception that led
to the controversial defensive passing interference call was overturned after
Texas fans were bombarding the field with water bottles. But
then eventually, after it was what three fifteen, Georgia backed
(01:02):
up into their own end zone third and ten, Carson
Beck with probably the biggest pass of the game. He
didn't have a great game by any means no touchdowns,
three interceptions, but that got Georgia some breathing room. Of course,
they had the trick play Georgia would score their final
touchdown of the game. They get thirty to fifteen and
that was pretty much at Texas really could not sustain
(01:23):
any offensive success in the fourth quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:25):
Like the first half of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:28):
There was a fumble involved as well, and Texas ultimately
loses thirty to fifteen. Their last three drives of the game.
He had a fumble, turnover on downs, and turnover on down.
So Texas goes in this game against Vanderbilt trying the
bounce back, not just on offense but the offensive line.
I think when yours and against the venerable team that
(01:50):
as we know, has made some noise this season under
Clark Lee. I can't remember where they were protected the
finish in the SEC preseason poll.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
I think he was bottom half of the league. In
Vanderbilt with a.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Good start, you know, upsets for Virginia Tech beats al
Corn State two and zero, and then they just have
a really nonsensical loss to Georgia State thirty six thirty two.
They comeback, they give the Missouri a great performance Missouri
at the time was ranked seventh, and that game goes
the overtime, Missouri ends up winning by a field goal.
(02:25):
They come back the next week beat Alabama, then they
beat Kentucky, and then they got by ball State last week,
and now they played Texas Vanderbilt. Here they are five
and two. They are two and one in the SEC
Conference play. One loss right there with Texas, Miszoo, Tennessee, Georgia,
and it feels like to get into the SEC title game.
(02:48):
Two losses are more in conference play and you're out.
That's what That's what appears like. It felt like Alabama
losing last with the Tennessee now means they are out
of the SEC title game. In Georgia against Texas last week,
it felt like if they lost that game, they would
be out. And I think that plays in the white.
Georgia played so well last week against Texas. I mean
(03:10):
it was a must win game for the Bulldogs and
they responded minorly, especially on defense. So for Vanderbilt, you know,
if they want to make the SEC title game, probably
a must win here. But they're coming into this game
Andrew with upset all on their mind, and their team
under Clark Lee, as most Texas fans already know, loves
(03:31):
to control time of possession. Looking back at their win
over Alabama, that upset win, Now it's a little weird
because you had Milroe throwing a pick six in that game.
You had a big fumble in the second half right
after Alabama made it a two point game, that Ventorabile
kicked a phield gold and in Alabama has it a
(03:53):
chance to take the lead, A big fumble there from
Jylen Milroe had two just just awful turnovers in that game.
Kind of a theme for Jal Milroll this season. But
title possession huge factor in this game. Manager first drive
of the game against Alabama, Vanderbilt went ten plays, six
minutes off the clock. Then it's the pick six in Boom,
(04:15):
just like that. It's already thirteen to nothing late in
the first quarter. Their second drive of the game seventeen plays,
nine minutes in fifty seconds off the clock, twenty to seven,
just like that. Now Alabama would come back in this game.
Of course, mentioned already the Milrolle fumble, and then ultimately
it was Alabama just getting not getting out of their
(04:37):
own way. A lot of costs penalties on that game.
You look at the first of their first drive on
off whether it was Vanderbilt's second drive on offense, they
had an illegal substitution on fourth and four automatic first down.
There was a third and eight where there was a
face mask penalty called an Alabama fifteen yards automatic first
(04:59):
down that came on third and eight. By the way,
Vanderbilt would later score on that drive. And then you
had some just other costume mistakes from Alabama in that game.
So the point being here is Alabama did not execute
well in that game. I don't think Texas has executed
well against Georgia. Of course, you had quin Yours with
(05:20):
the costly sack fumble early on in that game, which
led to Georgia's first real points in that ball game.
I mean four turnovers overall. In the stat that concerns
me is Vanderbilt is third in the country in turnovers
given up. They do not turn the ball over at all,
Texas one hundred and second. You had four against Georgia.
(05:44):
You had one against Oklahoma. The interception on the first
drive right where Quinn Yours just overthrew a THINGK was
Isaiah Bond In terms of interception for Billy Bowman so
two big factors in this game. I think Andrew is
in Texas execut We saw some false start penalties from
Gunnery Helm in defensive line, we saw some holding penalties.
(06:06):
We also just saw them not being able to execute
on third down as well as Sark wanted the offense
to do so. So the big keys in this game,
I think obviously or time of posession. Vanderbilt will control
the clock, but it's not turning. You're not compounding errors
one hundred percent.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
And you mentioned that two losses in SEC play essentially
knocks you out of any SEC championship ideas if you're Vanderbilt.
Same goes for Texas. Every game now throughout the rest
of the season is a must win. And for Texas fans,
players can't think about this, Stark can't think about this,
But for the fans, you gotta keep an eye on
that LSUA and M game because if A and M
(06:43):
comes clean into that final game of the season, that
game turns into essentially like a de facto SEC championship game,
like that's just another playoff game on the Longhorn schedule.
You mentioned Vanderbilt. They were picked dead last CAM in
the preseason Plato. Oh God, nobody believed in this team
except for coach Lee and his players. Nobody believed in
(07:05):
this team. I go through the schedule before the season,
Georgia really was the only game I kind of.
Speaker 2 (07:10):
Had a question mark. L next two for Texas.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Now, this game, the Longhorns have a better team on paper.
If they execute their game plan, they should win. If
Jayden Blue has the type of performance that I think
people are expecting him to have against this commodore defense,
and the Texas run game is developed in this game
prior to what they looked like last week against Georgia,
(07:35):
Texas should win. But again it comes back to that
time possession and turnover battle. It is going to be
a grinded out effort in Nashville for sure.
Speaker 2 (07:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (07:43):
I think to your point there about if Texas just
comes out and executes and plays clean football, they should
win this game. I mean, let me ask you that
by eighteen points for a reason. Go ahead, let me
ask you this.
Speaker 3 (07:56):
When have we seen Texas execute perfectly this season? Because
outside of a couple of the That's what I'm saying,
Because outside of Watchington play UTSA and run through ULM Oklahoma,
there were some hiccups.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
Georgia clearly some hiccups.
Speaker 3 (08:15):
So this is a game that I think before the
season you looked at and go, Okay, a tune up
game before we get into kind of the deeper sec play.
You have to come out perfect or in you're perfect
against Vanderbilt, because if you get down by ten at
any point in the second half, you might not get
those points back.
Speaker 1 (08:31):
Yeah, and especially with how Vanderbilt controls the clock. I
mean it's similar to Georgia where it feels like when
if you are behind my ten points against Georgia, you're screwed.
I think that goes for any team, any team the
george will play, especially with their defense and their pass rushers.
With Vanderbilt, it's more about time of possession. Now with Georgia,
(08:52):
they're not going to face another team as talented as
the Bulldogs until they see them again, possibly in Atlanta
or in the playoff. I mean, that was a team
that I think a lot of people maybe rode off
after Alabama and saw them struggle against Kentucky and against
Psissippi State, and there's it's.
Speaker 2 (09:09):
It's not the same Georgia team, and I fall into
that trap.
Speaker 1 (09:11):
But I mean, that first quarter was so weird against
Alabama where you had the Carson Beck turnover right out
of the gate mil Roe. There was a couple of
big penalties against George I think in that first drive,
and then George's pass rush was getting the mill Rolle.
But Melrolle's ability to make plays really changed that game.
All of a sudden, it's twenty eight to nothing. Now
(09:33):
the second half, Georgia was by far the better team.
And if you played one more quarter and they didn't,
obviously it's a four quarter game and it's georgea's fault
for coming out flat. But Georgia ends up winning that
football game. So I mean, all along, I think Georgia,
I know Oregon's one. I think Georgia is the best
team in the country after what I saw, especially when
they play like that in the way Kirby Smart schemed
(09:54):
up that defense. I mean, some of the looks he
was sorrowing at Quinnewers in Texas. I mean, I get it,
I get it. I mean at a lot of people
want to, you know, put a lot on quinn yours there,
but he had not seen a defense like that. I
don't think he's seen a defense like that at all
during his time at Texas, which kind of show hold on,
what about you? No, I think okay, no, no, no,
(10:19):
I don't think no. I think Georgia's defense, yes, for
last week, that's the best defense I think Texas has
seen in quite some time.
Speaker 3 (10:27):
So I think that the best defense as well in
the country. I think that that's what Kirby Smartest hung
his hat on, is going to continue to hang his
hat on. The one thing I will say, though, the
win for Georgia has disguised how bad Carson Beck has
been this season. People are giving Quinn a lot of grief.
Quinn dealing with an injury where he's trying to rehab
back on the fly during the season. Carson Beck has
(10:49):
no excuses and has not looked like a projected first
round quarterback in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Like I have not been impressed by back at all
this year.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
No, I think you're right. I think if you watched
that game without a scoreboard, you just watch that. You
just watch every quarterback snap. And Todd McShay from The
Ringer Now talked about it that when he he watched
the game behind and he thought, okay, if any quarterbacks
getting benched in this game, it's Carson Beck. He I
think he was frankly awful. I was not afraid. Every
time he dropped back to throw. I was like, good,
(11:19):
thank you, thank you. And I thought Quinn was so
much better than the third and fourth quarter, and for
whatever reason, Texas just could not sustain success on the
last couple of drives. You know, you can point to
the pass rush from Georgia or not having Isay a bond,
But again, the key for Georgia, I think Andrew is
can they get up to a ten point fourteen point
(11:41):
lead and not have to rely on Carson Beck? That
that is their blueprint for success. And I can't believe it. Actually,
it makes me feel worse about Alabama because Carson Beck
threw for what four hundred yards against them, and he
threw for one hundred and forty three against Texas with
a quarterback rating of what sixty four? So hey, if
(12:03):
you want to look for positives from that game, it's
the Texas pass defense I think is still legit. Now
you're playing the Vanderbilt team who defensively gives up two
hundred and forty five yards through the air, ninety third
in the country.
Speaker 2 (12:16):
Talk about Queen yours.
Speaker 1 (12:17):
When you have a bounce back game, they do not
have the same pass rush that Georgia has. There is
no Michael Williams or Deafonte Walker coming off the edge,
So Kelvin Banks and Cam Williams can sleep a little
bit easy there. So if Texas can provide a clean
pocket for quin yours, and again we can speculate on
where he's at physically, I think maybe that plays into
(12:40):
a little mental side of it of just you knowing
n one hundred percent, you don't trust your body to
make the right throws. If he can, if he can
come into this game, you know, just kind of flushing
away the Georgia first half and play like the third
and fourth quarter. I think Quinn has a big game,
he bounces back in Texas gets a big win. But
as you said, Andrew, it comes down to just executing
(13:02):
and not turning the ball over a Texas at Vanderbilt again,
kicking off tomorrow three point fifteen. Scheduled kickoff Network coverage
