Speaker 1 (00:00):
Greg Way, Cameron Parker with you, and a few more
items to get to. But I before we get to
hearing a little more from Loggorn's head coach Steve Sarkitan
from the weekly news conference. The brand new Power rankings
in college football have come out. Guess who's in the

(00:23):
power rankings for the first time?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Fighting A and m akis. Well, they've been in them. Okay,
so they're in them. What's how is the top twenty five?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (00:34):
What's the number?

Speaker 3 (00:35):
See if they are ranked, might not be ranked. Let
me look here.

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Is it just random teams?

Speaker 1 (00:42):
They're ranked. They're ranked near the bottom of the top
twenty five.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
They're ranked.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
So it's the first time this team has been the
top twenty five or like in the top ten.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
They're in the top twenty five. Mm. You think.

Speaker 2 (00:58):
I don't know who had who had a big win?
Wasn't wasn't expecting? Uh it was.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
It was it was a win.

Speaker 1 (01:05):
I don't know that the win expecting Either's just they've
been slowly climbing back to respectability.

Speaker 3 (01:10):
That would be Dion Sanders College, Colorado.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
Oh yeah, okay, they they are ranked for the first time. Yeah, yeah,
I went away from Bowl eligibility, Travis Hunter, who I
think win the Heisman. Now two touchdowns and now they
are Bowl levelge about to winning Saturday night? That was
that was six Okay, that was beat Cincinnati. Uh Now,
let's be real. Are they better than either b YU

(01:33):
or Iowa State right now? I don't think so.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
I don't either.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
You could have an all unbeaten matchup in the Big
Twelve in the Big Twelve Championship because b YU and
Iwa State don't play one another, so it could happen.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
And how about the if you took the four pre
season favorites in the Big Twelve this season, I think
only one has a winning record in the conference because
Utah has won in four, Oklahoma State poe and five.
I think Kansas was also in there one and four.
The only one is Kansas State, who is currently four
and one. So talk about the SEC and trying to

(02:07):
figure out who's going to be the final two teams
for that one Big twelve is is right there? You
have the YU and i Always State underfeeded. But then
you still got k State in Colorado at four and one,
and then you got five teams with two losses, TCU
tech s in c West Virginia, Arizona State. What a cluster.

Speaker 1 (02:24):
Yeah that the TCU Texas Tech game is a bit
of a cluster. Yeah, all that tc fourteen to three
lead techs up I think thirty four to seventeen, thirty
five seventeen whatever. TCU comes back at thirty four seventeen.
TCU comes back and wins thirty five thirty four. Heck
of a ball game that was in Fort Worth. All right,

(02:44):
So the updated power rankings these aren't the polls. It's
the power rankings. There's college football power rankings, computerizing, all
that kind of stuff. College football experts as well, have
way gainless. Number one is Oregon, Number two is Georgia.
Texas went up three spots from six to three.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Wait they moved up.

Speaker 1 (03:05):
See so the voting poll dropped in one of the
ap the power ranking they went up.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
So they went up. So they won nine straight road games. Whatever.
Number four Penn State went up one spot.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Number five Ohio State dropped two spots after the narrow
escape at a home against a brocos Olton board material
there for him. Miami dropped two spots from four to six. Yeah,
did of course it was Florida State. They played. Indiana
went up one spot from eight to seven, BYU up
one spot from nine to eight, Texas A and M

(03:41):
up five spots from fourteen to nine. Clemson dropped three
spots from seven to ten. I'm surprised the Aggies aren't higher.
A lot of people aren't. Are surprised that Tennessee is eleven,
Iowa State is twelve, Notre Dame thirteen, Pitt four teen,
Alabama fifteen. Then it's Boysey State, Kansas State, LSU dropping

(04:07):
five spots, smu Ole, miss Army, Colorado, Washington State, Illinois,
and Missouri. So there is your power rankings a little
bit different than the actual voting polls. Was the power
rankings on that. Yeah, now in both that and the poll.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
I don't know how Maszoo is over Vanderbilt because that's
a that's a really good Vanderbilt.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Well it beat him head to head.

Speaker 2 (04:33):
It did in overtimes, right, Okay, Yeah, I don't know.
I think they played again Vanderbilt.

Speaker 3 (04:38):
When's that game they might.

Speaker 1 (04:40):
Let's hear some more from Logwren's head coach, Steve sarkisian
a couple more comments here before we get to the break,
and sark was asked about a variety of things, including
the question about the bye week. Does he use the
structure of the bye week similar to what he did
on that first bye week coming out of the mississ
State game before the matchup with Oklahoma.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
It'll be very similar Today.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
Today we did meetings, only we try to give them
kind of two days off from practice Sunday and Monday.
They did work out today in the weight room with
coach Becton. Tomorrow will be a lighter practice, similar maybe
to a Monday, and then we'll practice Wednesday and Thursday,
kind of in game plan mode for Florida down the road.
They'll get a workout Friday, but no practice Friday, Saturday, Sunday,

(05:27):
so we try to bookend it with a little bit
of rest.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
But those three.

Speaker 4 (05:30):
Days in there were really a game plan mode, but
b getting a lot of these younger players up to speed.
Let's see where they're at now it's a month later.
Where are they at now? How do we create value
for them on our roster, whether it's on special teams
or on offense or defense, things of that nature. And
then we'll hit the road recruiting again on Friday and

(05:51):
we'll be out rolling and doing that again and again.
Because of the lack of days. Now they've reduced days.
We just have to be really smart of of not
using days for one off games. And so we're really
trying to It's a lot to get done this Friday
as a staff, and and you know, we're really well
organized and I think we'll do a great job, okay.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
And then also the importance of the bye week for
his quarterback, both for the continued improvement of his health
and also just his work and dialing back in the
importance of the bye week for Quinn.

Speaker 4 (06:21):
I think for him, I'm sure last week there was
a lot of emotions, you know, from last Saturday, the
Georgia game all the way through this game. And you know,
with emotions, you can you can you know your heart
maybe he's beating a little bit more, maybe not sleeping
quite as good as you'd like, and your your mind

(06:42):
is racing because you want to make sure you play
well and you and you're and you're doing all the
things that you need to do. So I'm sure this
week he's probably gonna appreciate a little bit of downtime.
You know, I appreciate a little bit of rest, and
we talked about that this morning with the team. You know,
everybody's recovery this week is gonna look a little bit different.
There's some guys that are recovering from physical ailments that
we need to get them back from. There's some guys

(07:03):
that maybe got to get their mental health space, you know,
kind of maybe realigned with all that a season can
put on them and make sure we have resources for
them that way. There's other guys that maybe just need
some physical rest, and so where that lands on each
guy is a little bit different. We just want to
make sure our players know, Quinn included that all of
those resourcers are here for them to get that done.

(07:25):
Whatever it makes them feel like when we come back
next Monday, they're batteries charged up as close to one
hundred percent. They feel as good as they can feel
for this kind of four game stretch that we have
coming up.

Speaker 1 (07:36):
All right, there's some more from Steve Sarkasian. We'll hear
more from sark a little bit later on this hour.
Up next, we talked baseball tonight, Game three of the
World Series Yankees and Dodgers. Gen Watson or MLB insider
joins us next on Sports Radio Am thirteen hundred.
