Bragway alongside the producer Cameron Parker. Glad to have you
with us and with you up until five o'clock this afternoon.
A reminder, no Longhorn Weekly was Sark this week because
of the open date on the schedule, so there's no
(00:20):
coaches show out at Pluckers with Sark on Wednesday. However,
we do have one on Thursday with Rodney Terry, another
basketball preview edition because the long worn basketball team in
case you haven't noticed, And every time my wife Linda
stumbles upon this over the past few days, she's like, Wow,
Basketball's about to start. I'm like, yeah, it's coming up
(00:41):
on us Monday night in Las Vegas, Nevada, Texas taking
part of that Hall of Fame series and they will
play the Ohio State Buckeyes on Monday night at eight
thirty eight thirty. There's a women's game Michigan South Carolina
precedes that, but Texas will play Ohio State at eight
(01:03):
thirty on Monday night and you'll be able to hear
that on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone, so
we'll bring it to you on Monday night. Cameron Parker's
very excited about going back to Las Vegas, I am,
it's will be how many trips to Vegas? See?
Speaker 2 (01:18):
I went there for my friend's engagement and I think
I've been back one other time since then. So first
time going getting to enjoy a sporting event passed by
Leeding Stadium And unfortunately the Las Vegas Raiders will not
be playing a football game, because that would have been
fun to get to a ten. But I like Vegas.
(01:41):
It's a fun city with a lot of good food options.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
That she's from, it's good for about three days. Yeah,
you don't want to spend a lot of time in
Vegas unless you have a lot of money to spend,
because you get past three days, like, okay, so you
go into the casino, you're going to the show. Both
cost money, you know, the buffer cost many quite a
bit unless you're a eye roller and you happen to
win a lot. You know, good on you if you do.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
Yeah, I heard you and Edgar going down the Blagio
and just going to be high rolling in at the
crab stable. Is that the plan?
Speaker 1 (02:11):
I don't know who you would have heard that from.
That's not going to happen, you know, it's interesting you
bring that up the last time Texas played in Las Vegas.
It was four years ago and the men and women
were in a doubleheader there on Sunday in December, and
(02:32):
it was very strange. It was that big twelve Pac
twelve Challenge series and both were to play Stanford.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
That's right, what's Stanford?
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Yeah, but only the men played Stanford COVID the women. Yeah,
the Stanford women had to decline due to protocols. And
it was pretty late in the game when that came out.
In fact, I think the Texas women were already in
Las Vegas when they got word of this. So Vick
(03:08):
Schaeffer and his staff set about on this mad pursuit
of trying to get ahold of teams that had an
open date that might want to come to Vegas and
play them. It was fixed first year, Yes, it was so,
and so was this. There was this scramble underway. Meanwhile,
(03:30):
the men played Stanford, didn't handle them pretty easily won
the game. The women were still looking for an opponent
and managed to get one. The University of San Diego
came on very late notice, flew in and actually played
Texas pretty tough. I think the Long Words ended up
(03:51):
winning by the maybe twelve or something like that, but
but it was it wasn't a cake walk for them,
so they had those two games. The other footnote about
that deal is Eddie weren't had flown out with the
team on the charter. I did not because that was
state championship week of for high school football and I
was working the state championship games on television and then
(04:13):
I was gonna fly out six o'clock Sunday morning, which
I did and landed like eight something like that, eight
o'clock Pacific time. The game wasn't until I think two
in the afternoon or something, so I landed plenty of
time obviously, and was going by there and I find
(04:34):
out when I land from Eddie that he's tested positive.
And I felt really bad for Eddie because he was
in a tough spot because he couldn't get on the
team charter. He wasn't gonna be able to do that,
and he couldn't get on a commercial flight. He had
to rent a car and drive it all the way
(04:55):
back to Texas and it took him two days because
he felt so awful. He said it was a rough,
rough trip going back. So David Garrett, our producer and
also sometimes analyst and play by play guy pitched in
as the analyst on that game, and then he engineered
the women's basketball broadcast at Kathy Arson and I did,
(05:16):
and it was it was just kind of a strange,
bizarre forty eight hours then when that happened, and that
that was the last time I went to Vegas. I
went there five years ago, Lindon and I went out
to see Steely Dan playing in their residency at at
the Venetian. But the last time I went there was
that kind of bizarre deal. So so it'll be nice
(05:38):
to go out there. Hopefully things will be quite a
bit more normal. We'll find out, all right. Up next,
we're going to visit with Greg Teffer, managing editor of
Dave Campbell's Texas Football Magazine, to talk about college and
high school football in the lone Star State. We'll do
that coming up when we continue here on Sports Radio
AM thirteen under the Zone, where you always listen to
(05:58):
us for free on the IR Radio app.
