Speaker 1 (00:00):
He only got rock when she was standing by Mike
Leslie from w FAA and Dallas uh mending fences, patching
it up with Trayvon Diggs. So his tweet was, Trayvon
Diggs and I have cleared the air. He apologized for
the hallway incident, and I apologize for misleading, misreading the play.

(00:20):
He explained that what I interpreted as him jogging was
in fact him slow playing a potential cutback from George Kittle.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
We buried the hatchet with a and there's a photo, well,
he said.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Cowboys PR informed me that the video there was a video,
violated their social media policy, so here's some pictures instead.
So there it is with the cans of D's nuts.
So they're and they're like, you know, toasting one another.
And it drew a universal, really really positive response from fans.

(00:53):
That's great. It's great to see there's always gonna be
one sour guy in the group that says, you go
through action you wanted, you were trolling, and he gave
you the emotional response and made you famous for twelve
minutes whatever.

Speaker 3 (01:07):
Who got famous. Both are already well respected and their feel.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
That's what I mean, you know, that's silly that someone
say that, Hey, on the text line, somebody said, hey,
does cat Cortes work at the actual iHeart station.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
Someone needs to let her know.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
In Austin, we mispronounced Manor and Elgin on purpose because
she said Manner and Elgin off of that she's not
in the building, you might imagine.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
And when you.

Speaker 3 (01:31):
First look at it, what does M A N O
R look like Manor?

Speaker 2 (01:34):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (01:35):
And E L G I N looks like Elgin the
yeah and the suburb of Chicago Elgin, Illinois.

Speaker 2 (01:42):
But that's it's Elgin. There's a lot of us, as.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
We know, a lot of surrounding area in the central
Austin towns that I've had to learn. The correct pronunciation
for Burnett was one of them.

Speaker 1 (01:51):
Yeah, you know what, when Dennis Franconi was a coach
of Texas A and M and he' stt when he
had Stephen McGee's his quarterback, when McGee and Jordan Shipley
were both there, he goes, it's burn it, learn it,
burn it. That's the old saying, you have to learn
burn it. Okay, did it with the other ones yetdler refe.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
I don't think I've that that's one that I really
struggle pronouncing because I'm not because it looks like refuge,
oh refere you. I just can't say that the F
and you do, you.

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Will replace the G with an rfere re few rio yeah,
refereo Yeah.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
Yeah. I still think I'm saying waxahatchie wrong. You are waksatchie, Yes,
wax a hatches. It's like w O c kau I hear.
I still hear people say wax a hatch you and
I'm like, it's not why I'm saying it wrong.

Speaker 2 (02:35):
I learned that very quickly when I got wos asage.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
Yeah. And then of course they're San Marcus.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
Some people say, you said Marcos.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
Through Matt Berry on ESPN calling the game, it's Arizona State,
San Marcos.

Speaker 2 (02:46):
Yeah, yeah, it's not that. It's not that.

Speaker 1 (02:49):
Uh there's old town up northeast to Dallas n e
v a d a.

Speaker 3 (02:59):
N e v a d A. I mean, just like
the state. We're Las Vegas, Ada, but it's pronounced what
would they I don't even know. That hurts my brain
to think about how I'll say to pronounce it. Craig,
it's there.

Speaker 1 (03:15):
It's pronounced Nevada, Nevada long egg Nevada. It's it's where
there's hot.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
We're going to Nevada this weekend, Craigs.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
No, we're going to Nevada this weekend, by the way,
And that is how the locals out there pronounce it.
It's Nevada, not Nevada. My brother and sister and all
lived there for twenty five years. They will tell you
it is Nevada. It's not Nevada.

Speaker 3 (03:38):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Up in Collin County, it's Nevada where there's a high
school called Community High School. The reason why is it
draws from four communities. One is Nevada. There's also one
called Levon by Lake Levon, Copeville, and my favorite, Josephine.
It all makes up Community High School there, all right.

(04:00):
Some more from Long Worn's head coach Steve Sarksin. He
was asked by our good friend Jeff, how about with
the COVID eligibility, those extra years that student athletes accrued
over time. Well, it's now finally winding down. It's on
the home stretch of that. So he was asked for
his thoughts on how it's been to get the best

(04:21):
football out of some players during their college career because
of the extra year and how it's benefited them and
the program he brought up to Vandre Sweat and Marvin
Over shown as examples that. David Bendon is an example
of that. Joddi Baron is an example that anybody he
was asked about what it's been like to get some
of the best football out of these guys given the
extra eligibility.

Speaker 5 (04:41):
They accrued, Well, I think there's a lot of value
in that, you know, you know, development, everybody is. Everybody's
at varying stages of their own development, right and sometimes
it's physical developed development, sometimes it's mental development, sometimes it's
maturity development, and everybody's at a different stage at a
different time. And I think that that's why you're hearing

(05:04):
so many people now being proponents of that fifth year.
And you know why, you know, why are we trying
to minimize the red shirts when we could just rather
develop the players and if they choose to play a
fifth year, they play a fifth year. I think that's
why there's some sentiment for that and people pushing for that,
because there is a real sense of gratification as a

(05:25):
coach when you can see a player grow and develop,
like I said, in a multitude of phases in their lives.
You know, again, there's physical development, of course, there's understanding scheme, Yes,
there's maturity. Yes, I mean there's a lot of things
that go into the development of a young man when
we get them at eighteen years old to twenty two
to twenty three years old, and to watch them grow

(05:46):
and then ultimately to have some success not only on
the football field, but in the classroom and in life.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
That's what this whole thing is about, you know.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
And I know what we you know, we look to
wins and losses, and again that those matter. Don't get
me wrong, those matter. But you know, I have one
hundred and twenty sons on our team every year, and
to watch them grow year in and year out, and
to see a young man his freshman year to where
he is his his his senior year, whether he red
shirted or not, fourth or fifth year, you know, what

(06:14):
does that look like? And I do think for some players,
the more time you have, the better opportunity you have
to grow and to develop. And so I don't think
it's for everybody.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
I'm not.

Speaker 5 (06:23):
I'm not suggesting that, but I do think that the
ones that we have had stick around a little longer.
It is it has you know, Dean been, It's been
successful for us and for them.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Okay, And then he was asked about Jade Baron, another
one of those six year seniors, his impact deciding to
return for that sixth and final season of eligibility instead
of declaring for the NFL draft.

Speaker 4 (06:44):
Well, I think that that's that's a huge component.

Speaker 5 (06:46):
You know, so many guys they just want to hurry
up and get to the NFL.

Speaker 4 (06:51):
Okay, but are you really ready for the NFL?

Speaker 5 (06:54):
And if you're getting a fourth or fifth round grade
and then you leave early and let's say you go
on the fourth or fifth round. But yet a guy
like John a who maybe didn't get a great grade
but is playing himself up into an earlier round, that's
money that he would never be able to make back
when he gets to the NFL. And so the fact

(07:16):
that yes, he's making that money now and making that
money back now for himself and for his family. You know,
I know a lot of agents preach just get to
your second contract. That's true, and that's true whenever you
go to the NFL, But you can never go back
and make that money that you inevitably get drafted at
and what that rookie deal looks like. And so when

(07:36):
we have players that really buy into the developmental piece
and what one more year could look like for them,
I think it just really speaks volumes to for our
younger players for what it can look like. And again,
not every guy is going to decide to stay. I
understand that, but I think about an Alphad Collins or
I think about a jud A Baron, those types of
guys that, man, what a life changing decision they made

(07:59):
to stay in school for one more year. And naturally
with ni L and with with now down the road
revenue sharing, I think some of those decisions are a
little easier to make. But just the fact to hurry
up and get to the NFL, that sounds like a
good idea. But if you're not really ready, you know,
they'll adages NFL stands for not for long and then

(08:21):
and then what do you have?

Speaker 4 (08:22):
And so you know, we we.

Speaker 5 (08:23):
Just try to educate our guys as best we can
so that they can make, you know, sound decisions. And
I think jud A made a really sound decision. I
think it's one as he looks back in his life,
he's going to be glad that.

Speaker 2 (08:34):
He made no doubt about that, all Right.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
When we come back, i'll tell you the lineups are
for the World Series, and we'll wrap up today's edition
of the program on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
