Speaker 1 (00:00):
Here on a Thursday afternoon. If you like to text
the program, feel free to do just that.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
All you have to do is.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
Text the word texas followed by your questioner comment to
eight one five three zero. Again, you text the word
texas followed by your question comment to eight one five
three zero. Standard messaging and data rates may apply. Now,
just a couple other notes on this world series, then
we'll move on to some football things. I pointed out

(00:34):
that that's how that fifthening comeback happened for the Dodgers
from down five to nothing to coming back and tying
the score with the two innings, and also, excuse me,
the two errors and then also Garrett Cole not covering

(00:54):
the back at first. Later there was a ball called
and they just they wound up with three errors total
in the ball game. And after the game, first you
had the the captain obvious moment when Aaron Judge was

(01:16):
asked about the era in the fifth end, he goes,
that didn't happen.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
We get a different story tonight. Yeah, maybe maybe so. Yeah,
So there was there was that to that, and I
mentioned I.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Think it's important to point out that Garrett Cole looked
like he recovered himself after the two errors, the one
the one by judging, the one by Vulpi. He struck
out Gavin lux on four pitches, including a ninety nine
mile an hour fastball. He struck out show A Otani
on four pitches. Otani chased a curveball outside, so it

(01:54):
looked like he was gonna get out of it. Mookie
Betts that squibbler that he hit off his bat. It
was forty nine miles an hour dribbling out toward first
and because it bounced to Anthony Rizzo with so much spin,
he didn't charge it. He stayed back to make the play.
The glove it cleanly, which of course meant he needed
Cole to cover first base to get Bets, but col

(02:16):
didn't finished the run. Garrett Cole's quote was, I took
a bad angle to the ball. I wasn't sure really
off the bout how hard he hit it. I took
a direct angle to it, as if to cut it
off because I didn't know. I just didn't know how
hard he hit it. By the time the ball got
by me, I was not in position to cover first
Neither of us were based on the spin of the
baseball and him having to secure. It just a bad

(02:38):
read off the bat. But again they scored their first
run because of that, which went down to the box,
scores an infield single. But then Freeman comes up with
a two run single, and then taoskcar Nanda's with a
two run double judge again, another captain obvious comment. You
can't give them extra outs like that. They're going to capitalize,
especially with the top of the order. They don't miss.

(02:59):
Yeah to the deal. They opened the door and the
Dodgers went through that, all right. The other the other
thing about that is it had the Yankees won that game,
as we pointed out, had they sent it back to
Los Angeles, they would have been the first team to
force a game six after being down three.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Games to none.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Instead, the Dodgers became the first team in Major League
history to overcome a deficit of five or more runs
in a series, deciding game to be down five to
nothing going into the fifth and the back when that's
the first time that's happened in baseball. So there's all
sorts of little things about that. It was the Dodgers'

(03:40):
eighth World championship, seven of those in Los Angeles, the
one in Brooklyn, here's another couple of little weird OCD
footnotes on my part as a Dodger fan, died, I
want them to sweep them. Yes, but but there's kind
of some synergy in them and compartmentalization in them winning
in five game. She see, the Dodgers had beaten the

(04:02):
Yankees in seven games when they were in Brooklyn in
fifty five. They swept them in four sixty three. By
the way, Yankees have never swept the Dodgers. But so Brooklyn,
the Dodgers won in seven of the Yankees in fifty
five they won in four straight, and sixty three they
won in six games.

Speaker 2 (04:19):
In eighty one. They had never beaten the Yankees in five.
Now they have.

Speaker 1 (04:24):
So there was that little weird footnote to come out
of it. And yes, as I mentioned, the Dodgers won
eight World tizing. Yankees won twenty seven, more than any
team in any sport, twenty seven World championships. It is
fair to point out now they've lost fourteen World Series
so and four of those to the Dodgers. So when

(04:49):
Yankee fans say, hey, we won twenty seven World time,
yes they did, and a lot of those were in
the twenties and thirties and forties and fifties. They haven't
won one in fifteen years, but of course they had
that great run in the nineties as well, and that's
what they're trying to build back to. But the question
will be will they have all of the parts the

(05:10):
heavy duty rumors seemed to be that one SODA's not
going to be there, that he's going to go to
the highest bidder at this point, So we'll see on that.
So those were a couple of footnotes about that World
Series and then and as I mentioned, some might have
been shocked with how it wound up being the way
that it did, and maybe it shouldn't have been that

(05:37):
shocking because the Yankees kind of struggled defensively throughout the
course of the year. Now, they covered up a lot
of it by I think Karl Ravits from ESPN put
in this way, said they bludgeoned people. So it covered
up a lot of those mistakes. But against a very
fundamentally sound team in a high pressure environment, it showed up.
So anyway, that's some up there with regard to the

(06:01):
World Series. And again, if you have feedback on that
and get to that. So it's Halloween, do you have
a favorite candy growing up? Trigger treating when you would
go out trick or treating, and this this is a
good question for the text line that not just what's
your favorite candy? I'm asking when you went out trick
or treating, what's and and you had that sack to

(06:23):
get your stuff on a pillow case or whatever, and
you got all that candy in there, what was the
one that you wanted to pull out and eat right away?
And what was the one you didn't care if you
got any more of those ever again, and would either
give them away or throw them out.

Speaker 3 (06:39):
So for me, yeah, go first, Uh, don't celebrate Halloween,
never did so, never did trick or treat. But my
favorite candy growing up probably would be I still say.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
Rece's, even though it's Reese's, Reese's Reese's peanut butter cups
or the Reese's pieces, the peanut butter cups.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Okay, not a big fan of the pieces, Okay, but.

Speaker 3 (06:57):
The peanut butter cups. Yeah, that's that's my kryptonite.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
Crag. It's good, It's really good.

Speaker 3 (07:02):
I could go, I could go through a pack and
during the holidays, yeah, I mean, they look for any
excuse to make the market. They'll do like the Christmas
tree ones, Yeah, funny ones.

Speaker 1 (07:12):
Yeah, like the snowman ones or the.

Speaker 3 (07:16):
Yeah, it'll be like a big it'll be just like
a bigger peanut butter.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Cup pumpkin ones that does shaped like a pumpkin and
Halloween even though it's chocolate peanut butter.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
And then they'll do the white chocolate ones. Yeah. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
And now I'm going to huld be the night. And
well we told tomorrow when everything's on sale, right, isn't
that the.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
Yeah, Yeah, that's that's that's good. That's very smart of you. Yeah,
going going to do that. For me, it was always
a Snickers. I think if there was just one regular
run of the mill all time go to candy bar.
For me, it was always a Snickers because it had
a little bit of everything in chocolate, peanut butter or
peanut caramel, nougat, had all that kind of stuff. Everyone

(07:54):
Tom Harmon was the coach, used to say and they
asked him one's favorite Halloween candy was and he said
anything with.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
New It nugat. He was in. He was in that
he liked nuked for that. All right.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Uh, college football note, I've got a note coming up
on something weird. We started to get into it yesterday,
but I'm gonna I'll get into greater.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
I'll get into a greater detail in this coming up.
And inconceivable.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
However, there's a really big college football game this weekend.
And it's not Florida Georgia. It's not even Ohios State
penn Stake. I mean that those are big games for sure.
It's Pittsburgh and SMU. Pitt and SMU playing in Dallas.
And we mentioned yesterday there were a lot of fans

(08:50):
that were grumbling about this thing that's going to wind
up on ACC Network instead of on one of the
regular linear ESPN family of networks. But it is going
to be on ACC Network. Well, good news for both programs.
Eli Holstein, the Panthers quarterback, is going to be available

(09:11):
to go. He had gotten banged up in the winter
for Syracuse last week and he has been cleared so
he will play. And in addition to that, SMU got
good news as well. Kevin Jennings. He took a big
hit to the knee in the win over Duke. He
had been listed as questionable, but pet Tamil reporting that

(09:35):
Jennings is expected to try and play against Pittsburgh. He
still needs to be clear for contact, but he practiced
this week in a limited capacity. He's the guy who
started the season as the backup to Preston Stone stepped
into the starting role. He's the guy at quarterback South
Olkcliff to the back to back state championships, Kevin Jennings.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
So it looks like he will be ready to go
on that.

Speaker 1 (09:54):
All right, coming up, I've got another college football note
that just has to be part of M Conceivable, which
we had to coming up next here on sports Radio
AM thirteen under Zone and the iHeartRadio app.
