Speaker 1 (00:02):
All right, thanks again Gene Watson, our MLB insider joining
us here on the program. I want to go back
there's one other baseball and I want to go back
to it before we jump back into football. And that's
this thing that I had to get Jane's thoughts on this,
this new Vegas stadium that is in the planning stages
for the A's. Again, this came out today because there's
(00:26):
been a lot of questions about, you know, when the
A's were leaving Oakland, and all we really knew for
sure was that there was a plan where they were
talking about a planning to be in Las Vegas, and
then we're going to play at least two seasons, probably
three in Sacramento and by the way, share the dates
with the ball club with the river Cats there, who
have the first call on dates there in Pacific Coast
(00:50):
League scheduling. So the A's are kind of, you know,
taking the back seat off of that deal. But it
did become official today that the owner, John Fisher and
the family says it's going to invest one million dollars
into the construction of this ballpark in Vegas, and US
Bank and Goldman Sachs will offer a three hundred million
(01:11):
dollars loan. According to club executive Sandy Dean, it was
the Las Vegas Stadium Authority Board had a special meeting
and he appeared before that.
Speaker 2 (01:20):
He said that four letters, I guess the letters of credit,
things like that, will be.
Speaker 1 (01:23):
Presented at the December December fifth authority meeting, asserting construction
details and that financing will be in place. Final approvals
are expected to be made at that meeting to allow
construction of a one point five billion dollars thirty three
thousand seat domed ballpark. They said, just thirty three thousand.
(01:46):
You know, some of these newer ballparks are not built cavernously.
They've figured in thirty five to forty thousand.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
This is plenty.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
I think PNC Park, which is one of my favorites
in Pittsburgh's thirty seven thousand, you know, Family's thirty fourth.
Of course that's an older ballpark. But even some of
the newer ballparks are not over about forty thousand. The
Rangers Ballpark Globe Life will seat fifty They can cram
it in there like for a World Series game last year.
But anyway, Sandy Dean, who as we mentioned, is the
(02:19):
club executive told said today told the board, we feel
like we're on the right path and it will become
clear in the months ahead. Construction is expected to begin
in the spring, with a targeted opening before the twenty
twenty eight season. As much as three hundred and eighty
million in public funding will go into building this stadium.
It's going to be on the strip where Tropic Cannon,
(02:40):
where the recently demolished Tropic Canna stood.
Speaker 2 (02:43):
They stayed at the Tropic Cannon before hotel.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
That's the Long Horn Basketball team already had their plans
for a different hotel before the demolition of that. Since
Texas will be out there Sunday night, the A's are
going to have to play at least the next three
seasons in West Sacramento, California. Twenty five, twenty six, and
(03:07):
twenty seven, the team did announce. How about this, The
team announced it's going to play sixty six to oh
sixty of its eighty one home games next season at night.
Eleven of the day games will be held in April
and May. Why you ask it's hot in Sacramento, it's Inland.
It's not right here on the coach. You don't get
(03:29):
that that marine layer. You don't get that cool ocean breeze.
You see, they're hoping to mitigate concerns about playing in
the extreme heat. The city experienced its hottest twenty day
stretch on record earlier this summer. Temperatures averaged one oh
three point eight from June twenty third to July twelfth.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
Question Professor, Yeah, so they're concerned about heat, but they're
moving to the desert in Vegas.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
How's that work?
Speaker 1 (03:56):
Well, it's good. Well, yeah, it's a dumb it's a done.
Which is an outdoor ballpark at Sacramento that they're dealing with. Hey,
well look at Phoenix. You know they play it. They
play it. What's the name of the ballpark? They're Chase Field.
I thought the d Backs play.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
I thought you're going to say they're playing all these
night games because they know people are gonna want to
watch them primetime. People are gonna want to watch that
seven oh five first pitch.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
We're talking about the A's that think anybody wants to
see them in prime time? All right?
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Uh, and you heard Gene Watsons are going to play
on natural grass in Sacramento, So they're going to do that.
The sixty night home games would tie the sixty eight
Athletics the first year in Oakland for the most in
a season in franchise history. And they're going to share
Sutter Health Park with the Triple A of the Giants.
(04:45):
The Sacramento river Cats, Major League Baseball Minor League Baseball
have worked together to ensure that Boat teams will not
play at home on the same day.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
Well, yeah, that's probably a good idea.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
So they're done after fifty seven years in Oakland, and
we knew they would be done after fifty seven years.
So now it looks like they've got a plan anyway
to be put in place for the coming days in
Sacramento and then on in the Las Vegas.
Speaker 3 (05:09):
Can I tell you my genius plan with the A's,
You have a genius plan. I have a genius plan.
You know how retro stuff is really popular. People like
the stuff from twenty thirty years ago, a vintage. I'm
gonna go buy all the stuff that goes on clearance,
all the A's Oakland Athletics gear that's on clearance. I'm
gonna buy it all up, put it in boxes, make
sure that the moths don't get to it, and then
(05:30):
in twenty years.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
I'm gonna pop it out. My kids are gonna love it. Yeah, yeah, sure,
there's the way to do it.
Speaker 1 (05:33):
Our man, Mike Hardball Heart said, the A sold out
their season tickets for Sacramento today, So that's that's already done.
So the fans are excited about that, all right. So
there's that, all right. A couple of NFL notes. All right,
So the Texans play tonight. They're playing the Jets. You're,
by nature of Vikings fan, right, I am? Sadly?
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Do you feel what that Ramas went over the Vikings
last week?
Speaker 3 (05:58):
I think if they don't, if they call a face mask,
where another win in the column?
Speaker 1 (06:02):
I kill?
Speaker 2 (06:03):
You're not?
Speaker 3 (06:03):
Oh yes we are.
Speaker 1 (06:05):
Okay, all right, let's play your game for a moment, cowboy. Yeah,
if they call the face mask, the score is still
twenty eight twenty Los Angeles. The ball was moved out
to the twenty yard line, their own twenty yard line,
where they've got to go eighty yards in a minute
and fifteen seconds with no timeouts, score a touchdown, and
(06:26):
get a two point conversion just to tie it.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
Where do you find a win out of all of that?
Speaker 3 (06:31):
Who's the best receiver?
Speaker 2 (06:32):
In football, Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
Yeah, and they clamm down on him after the first half.
Speaker 3 (06:36):
And here's what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
I think I got him on my fantasy Jamie's going.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Oh, he's great. He sells jerseys if you give him
that opportunity to make a play.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Think about this.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Last year they were down thirty three to zero to
the Indiapolis Colts, who brought them back. Justin Jefferson, I'm
telling you, in that situation, if they can get that
call momentums on our side, I know a lot of
people don't believe in Uncle Moe.
Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yeah, because they're eighty yards away a minute fifteen to
go with no timeouts.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
This is why. And they hadn't scored a touchdown since
the second quarter.
Speaker 3 (07:05):
My bread lime, my Thanksgiving is better than everybody else is.
I am my Uncle bo In. I bring Uncle momentum in.
You do that, we win that game. If they call
that face mask round.
Speaker 1 (07:13):
Okay, they're gonna go eighty yards in a minute in
seventy five seconds with no timeouts when they had not
even scored a touchdown since the second quarter. They're gonna
get a touchdown and the two pointer to tie it,
and then win it in overtime.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
That's your point.
Speaker 3 (07:27):
We'll never know because we have three blind mice.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
I guess we'll never know.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
