That, but anyway, Roger will join us to talk about

and men's basketball that will be coming up at the
three o'clock hour. We have Inconceivable coming up in a
few minutes. You know, this is we're getting to what
is it, cam that they call it feast week when
they get right there, a college basketball when they have
the Maui Tournament, all that stuff. Yeah, this is the

(02:39):
feast season for Inconceivable. Oh, there's lots of feast stuff
to get to, So we'll get to that coming up
in a few moments. But I know folks are have
quite an appetite for Texas Arkansas this weekend. Here earlier today,
just a little while ago, the Weekly Media Assume final
opportunity for the media visit with the head football coach

(03:01):
at the University of Texas, the Longhorn Weekly Media Zoom
with Coach Sark.

Speaker 7 (03:06):
You know, going on the road, hostile environment.

Speaker 8 (03:09):
We continue to find different ways to find out about
our team, and this is gonna be another great test
for us, especially coming off the last week's game. I
thought we got a lot of confidence. But with that
confidence came a work ethic that I that I saw
this week. I was really proud of our team, you know,
and I've told them that every day. With the intent,
the urgency, the physicality that we practice with this week,

(03:32):
that's going to be needed again. Super impressive with with
them for that, but knowing and we got a heck
of a challenge here Saturday on the road eleven am.

Speaker 7 (03:40):
Kick and so we've got to be ready to go. Great,
thanks coach. We'll go ahead and go to some questions.
Start with Thomas Jones, Good morning, Sark.

Speaker 9 (03:51):
You know, considering Tailing Green's unique skill set, is he
the most dangerous quarterback or defenses face this year?

Speaker 8 (03:57):
I would I would say so, you know, I mean
it's one to have the running ability and the throwing ability,
but it's the size factor as well. You know, I
think he's sixty six, probably close to two hundred and
forty pounds, and so his ability to get out of
the pocket, extend plays then uses legs. I think the
scheme really helps. So I think coach Petrino, Coach Pittman

(04:17):
do a great job of giving them the design quarterback
runs the zone read stuff. But then also the pro
style passing game is very taxing, and so he poses
a heck of a challenge for us more than Steve.

Speaker 10 (04:30):
I've actually got two questions for you now, I'm just
kidding John.

Speaker 7 (04:32):
Only one today.

Speaker 10 (04:35):
Well, that's pretty good, No, Steve, in your career, just
did some research. Believe you've only twice you've had six
receivers catch twenty passes or more.

Speaker 7 (04:47):
This year you have seven. You're on the verge of having.

Speaker 10 (04:49):
An eighth probably by the time the real season ends.
What does that say to you just about the ball
distribution factor of this offense?

Speaker 7 (04:55):
As I say, I mean anything at all? Or am I
just making too much of that sad? No, I don't
think so. I I think that's fair.

Speaker 8 (05:01):
You know, that was something we had talked about on
here at the beginning of the season, that we wanted
to play more wide receivers. We wanted to have a
better rotation, we wanted to have more depth, We wanted
to utilize these guys because they'd earned the opportunities. And
the fact that the numbers are starting to bear that out,
I think is a good thing. We've got a lot
of trust in these guys and their ability to go

(05:23):
make plays, whether it's our wide receiving corps obviously, what
Gunner's been doing at tight end, and what our running
backs are doing catching the ball out of the backfield.
I think the distribution of the ball is healthy, especially
when the when the ball is getting distributed and those
guys are going and making plays with the ball in
their hands. And so so far, so good. You know,
the plan going into the season is working.

Speaker 11 (05:45):
Coach, good afternoon. So I was wondering if you would
take us into that lot, to your locker room just
before the game starts, before you walk out onto the
tunnel going on the field, what is your message to
the team? You know, I picture you as that Kurt Russell,
you know, given the speech. But what's your speech to
the team before that game?

Speaker 8 (06:04):
I'm not sure when you're referring to Kurt Russell. That
must be out of a movie that Yeah, the.

Speaker 11 (06:09):
Great moments are born with great opportunities of hockey.

Speaker 8 (06:12):
Yeah, got it, Okay, got it. You know I'm not
very long winded. First of all, in the locker room,
I really have my speech with the team about the
game the day before the night before and depending on
a home game or away game, when that happens, and
I try to walk them through the game in that
moment in the locker room, you know, we do a

(06:36):
lot of schematic work before we take the field, offense, defense,
special teams, and we reminders and tips and different things
like that, and then really the moment before we go
take the field, it's kind of like everybody's just excited,
and so I'm not a long winded guy. I may
talk for about thirty to forty five seconds, and then
we go take the field.

Speaker 7 (06:55):
You know, I feel like if we're not.

Speaker 8 (06:57):
Ready to play at that moment, we're probably in trouble anyway.
So I kind of just get them a little fired
up and then we go take the field.

Speaker 7 (07:05):
Steve, I had a schedule question.

Speaker 12 (07:07):
You guys played the defending national champs on the road,
and you joined what it's supposed to be the hardest
conference in America. Why is there this national growing storyline
that somehow you guys aren't deserving of your ranking.

Speaker 8 (07:22):
I don't given CFP, I'm not certain. Honestly, I don't
pay attention to that stuff.

Speaker 7 (07:28):
You know.

Speaker 8 (07:29):
All I know is we play the teams that are
in front of us, and they're they're good, you know,
So I don't know if people don't think they're good
or not. That's not for me to decide, you know.
We just try to play our best football that we can.

Speaker 13 (07:40):
Hey, Steve, when when you're facing an offense that has
a dynamic receiver like like Armstrong for for Arkansas, how
do you kind of con sensualize I guess making sure
he doesn't pop off without unbalancing your defense in doing that.

Speaker 8 (07:58):
Yeah, No, I think that we have to trust our players.
We have to trust our coverage. We have to we
have to continually disguise our coverages, you know, And I
think I think PK does a great job of that,
and I think our veterans secondary does a really good
job of that. Those guys work really well in unison
with one another.

Speaker 7 (08:16):
And so you know, his.

Speaker 8 (08:18):
Length can be a problem on one on one balls
and fifty to fifty balls, But again, the scheme is
a problem too. So you have to defend the scheme
and you have to defend all eleven players that you're defending,
but knowing where are the targets right and where are
the targets going?

Speaker 7 (08:32):
And he gets plenty of targets.

Speaker 8 (08:33):
He has plenty of catches and yards, and so we
kind of have to do both. But again, we want
to remain competitive and we want to remain confident in
our own ability to go do that. I think we
have pretty good players too, and to marry that with
the scheme. I think that's why we've been playing such
good pass defense all year.

Speaker 7 (08:50):
Good afternoon, Good morning, coach, coach.

Speaker 14 (08:53):
Are there any young players who behind the scenes maybe
aren't getting a lot of playing time now, but as
a staff, you guys are really happy with how they're
growing and developing and really excited about their future.

Speaker 7 (09:07):
Yeah, I mean, I think there's a there's a few
of those guys.

Speaker 8 (09:09):
I think Zena definitely is one of those guys who
has been very impressive with us on He has been
on scout team, you know, with the offense down there
with us and competing against us every day, and you know,
trying to find roles for him on special teams to
get him more involved. I love the development of those
safeties and Jordan Johnson Rebel and Xavier Phil to me,

(09:31):
I think those two guys have done a nice job.
Wardell Mack another guy that that kind of falls into
into that category. I'm been really impressed with Parker Livingstone.
You know, he's a guy that has really grown and
and continues to improve, and he's you know, he's back
to really one hundred percent healthy. So that's just to
name a few there. There's but all these guys are
working and getting better and that that's the encouraging thing.

Speaker 15 (09:55):
Uh, Steve, I'm on the All American Committee. We're picking
our teams this Sunday and next Sunday. I'm curious which
of your players you would vouch for as that caliber
and and just anybody you've played against your scene.

Speaker 7 (10:08):
This year feels kind of like a setup question, Kurt.

Speaker 8 (10:14):
You know, I think I think we've got a lot
of really good players, you know, and I'm but more important,
I'm really proud of the guys that decided to stay
in school. You know, we had some guys with some
tough decisions last year. You know, John a with the
decision he had to make, Alfred Collins with the decision
he had to make, Vernon Broughton with his decision, Quinn
with his decision. And I'm naming those guys off because

(10:37):
I know it was a tough decision. Do I go
to the NFL, do I stay in school, And I
think they're all reaping the benefits of staying in school.
They've all played football at a really high level. Baron
Surrell is another one of those guys that falls into
that category. So they're all reaping the benefits of sticking
around for another year.

Speaker 7 (10:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 8 (10:54):
I say this a lot about kind of awards and
all American teams and things at the end of the season,
even the NFL Draft. I think I think team's success
is what then kind of promotes the individual accolades, awards
and honors and things of that nature. And so I
think we've got a really good football team. And we

(11:15):
have a really good football team. So we have good players,
and they play well together and they're great teammates with
one another. And I think, you know, if we can
continue to win, I think we'll see, you know, more
of these individual accolades, All American Teams award winners from our.

Speaker 7 (11:30):
Roster because we do have a lot of talented players.

Speaker 16 (11:33):
Hey, coach wanted to bring some of those players up,
but one in particular, I wanted to talk about Anthony Hill.
Can you talk about his growth and maturation in such
a short period.

Speaker 7 (11:45):
Of time and how well he's been able to play. Yeah,
I'm I love ant.

Speaker 8 (11:51):
You know, he's a he's a guy who last season
was just trying to play football, you know. I mean
he was just if he could run and hit something
it worked, you know, And he was learning his way
as he was going, you know, and he had Jalen
Ford there kind of navigating things. And we really put
a lot on a this year coming back. What I've
been impressed with him is obviously the playmaking ability.

Speaker 7 (12:13):
We see it.

Speaker 8 (12:14):
You know, he's got sacks, he forces turnovers. He had
a great punch out causing the fumble last week. You know,
he's disruptive, He's very versatile. He could play on the
line of scrimmage, he can play off the ball. But
who he is as a person and the work that
he puts in and the way he represents our football
program is as impressive to me as it is the

(12:37):
way that he plays the game. And I always say
there's a real correlation to that, right who you are
some of the.

Speaker 7 (12:42):
Time is who you are all the time.

Speaker 8 (12:44):
If you want to be a really good football player,
you got to be a really good person off the field,
And those two things tie together, and there's a level
of consistency that he's playing.

Speaker 7 (12:52):
With right now.

Speaker 8 (12:53):
You know, down in down out, game in game out.
I know number of zero is going to be there
Saturday at eleven am. I don't have to worry about
that when we take the field, that dude's gonna be
ready to play.

Speaker 7 (13:03):
Hey, Steve, And it can't be that I'm not boring.
You're yawning on here right now. I'm just kidding with you.

Speaker 17 (13:08):
Sorry, what You're not the first I'm not going to
ask a setup question.

Speaker 7 (13:12):
So that's the first time Kurt's ever asked a set
up question.

Speaker 17 (13:17):
Sore At the beginning of the season, when they changed
the playoff to twelve teams, they were purists out there
and it said it was going to hurt the regular season.
But it feels like the opposite has happened. The regular
season seems as sexy as it's ever been with these
elimination games. What are your thoughts on how the regular

(13:38):
season has more buzz with this playoff coming up.

Speaker 8 (13:41):
Yeah, I love it, And I'll be honest with you,
I love it. You know, I've been I've been banging
for this playoff now for for some time. You know,
I always say we're we're We're the only sport that
didn't have a true playoff, you know, and every other sport,
whether it's professional or collegiate, to have a playoff.

Speaker 7 (13:57):
We have March.

Speaker 8 (13:58):
Madness, we have the NCAA, you know, baseball tournament and
College World Series, and you know, NBA or NFL, everybody
has it. You know, us in boxing are like the
only two that don't have like a playoff, And so
for us to finally get it now, I think is awesome.

Speaker 7 (14:14):
And I've been saying this.

Speaker 8 (14:14):
I think the popularity of college football right now is
at an all time high. There's so many meaningful games
that are happening every weekend. And again, you know, before
everybody was worried about who was going to be five, six,
and seven, and now all of a sudden, you're looking
at ten through twenty five of who can find their
way into this playoff? And what if somebody you know

(14:37):
in the front half of that, you know, one, three, eight,
what if they lose? How far do they fall? And
I just think it's super exciting, and I love it
for our sport. I love it for our game. I
love it for the popularity I think it's creating a
lot more exposure for more team.

Speaker 9 (14:51):
And Steve when you look at your turnover numbers, depends
on turnover numbers, especially if interceptions. Is that a good
way to measure skill or is it a matter of
scheme or being in the right place at the right time,
or how do you measure turnovers?

Speaker 8 (15:05):
Yeah, I think it's a combination of things. I think one,
you have to have scheme right, you have to put
players in position to make plays. Two you have to
have ability to make the play. But I think turnovers
happen because of football IQ and awareness and I really
believe that. Like, you can be big, tall and fast,
but if you don't know what's happening around you, you

(15:26):
probably don't recognize when there's an opportunity to punch a
ball out to cause a fumble, or when to get
your hands up when you're rushing the pass, or to
tip a pass, or you know, because I'm so confident
in my coverage, can't I don't have to be so
locked in on the receiver. I can see a ball
be thrown and then if it is tipped, I can

(15:46):
I can break on that ball and go make the play.
So again, I think their scheme. I think there's ability,
but I also think there's football IQ and football awareness
that that that our guys, especially in the back end,
have a ton. I think that's because one, there's a
lot of experience back there, but two, I think there's
a real sense of confidence and trust in.

Speaker 7 (16:06):
One another to go make their place.

Speaker 13 (16:10):
Thanks coach, appreciate this time.

Speaker 7 (16:12):
