(01:28):
your most vivid Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving memory is?

Speaker 2 (01:34):
We just said they've played.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
They've played fifty six games, going all the way back
to nineteen sixty six.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
CB was talking about the leon Let game.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
I remember, like I said, Bill Schoning and I were
doing the Texas Texas A and M game in College
Station that night, and you have the snow hit there too,
and then it was like icy driving back up. I'd
like to kid with people and said, I skid it
all the way around the traffic circle in Mahea on
my way back up to Dallas. But it was it
was treacherous conditions there. And of course remember leon Let

(02:09):
skidding into the ball after the block field goal. The
Cowboys were going to win, and then he skidded into
it and gave them one more shot and then it
was kicked through. Do you know, by the way, who
was holding on that game winning field goal for the
Dolphins to beat the Cowboys after leon Let skid it
into the balls? Back up years, backup quarterback quarterbacks. He's

(02:33):
currently an NFL head coach, No, but that he was
playing during that time period.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
Peterson.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
Yes, we're well done, Doug Peterson. He's the coach of
the Jaguars. He was the holder on that for it
as well. So yeah, anyway, other questions, somebody said his
bill still sport the stash best best lip lettuce this
side of Martin mull Yes, he does. He still has

(03:07):
the Mike Ditka looks good mustache. He still sports that going.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
He was on, of course, if you want to watch
our show on YouTube, the Craig Way Show. He joined
us on stream. Yard looks good. Yeah, looks good.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
Somebody said Georgia on the SEC Network, still living on
their Texas victory. Georgia writer talking it was a blowout.
This is the hate and envy for Texas is already there. Well,
they had the upper hand that night. Hopefully the long
Ones get a shot at him again. They have to
win on Saturday night. In College station to get a

(03:43):
return engagement with Georgia that would be in the SEC
Championship game. It was twenty six years ago that Ricky
Williams helped Texas peak Texas A and M Chris Dockton's
walk off field goal, Ricky breaking the record at the
time for the college football all time rushing leader as
well somebody else and my dad and I took my
brother meet to the Clint Longley game. We revisited by

(04:05):
discussing every year. How familiar are you that with that game?

Speaker 2 (04:09):
Not at all.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
It is one that goes down in Cowboys Lore nineteen
seventy four. The Cowboys are trailing Washington twenty three to ten.
In the fourth quarter, Roger Staubach got knocked out of
the game. Forgot who it was that hit him. Might
have been Dave, butz I can't remember who was He

(04:33):
got knocked out of the game with a concussion. Clint
Longley enters the game the backup quarterback. He played at
Abilene Christian and he was kind of known as a
mad bomber because he could. He had a great arm,
a deep arm, and he let him down the field
one score. They got the ball back late and he
hits Drew Pearson on a fifty yard pass in the
waning seconds of the game. It was a hail Mary,

(04:56):
and the Cowboys won the game twenty four to so
it was a It was a heck of a game,
and so they won the game. Two ironic things happened
after that.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
One.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
The Cowboys ended up not making the playoffs. They finished
eight and six, and it was the first time they
had missed the postseasons. In nineteen sixty six and I
made the playoffs in sixty six was nineteen seventy four.
The Cardinals won the division and Washington was the wild card,
and so the Cowboys didn't make the playoffs. And then

(05:33):
the next summer in training camp, Clint Longley sucker punched
Roger Staubach in the locker room.

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Yeah, yeah, he punched.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Sucker punched him and he was released after that and
Longley never called it. He had his one moment in
the sun, that fifty yarder to Drew Pearson. That was
nineteen seventy four. Like I said, other people have other
memories of it as well. My most vivid Cowboys memory
is really it was a pretty nondescript game when I

(06:03):
was in college seventy nine, eighty eighty one, eighty two,
eighty three. Anyway, when I was in college, my dad
was a season ticket holder to the Cowboys. He and
two friends went in on three tickets. They had three tickets.
They were good seats. They were like on twenty yard
line lower level, about thirty rows up.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
They were pretty good seats. But he didn't he.

Speaker 1 (06:27):
Didn't care to go to every game and would let
us go in his place sometimes. And in nineteen eighty one,
the Cowboys were playing the Bears. I still have Walter
Payton and all this, and they were coming off of
playoff appearance, and the Cowboys were good at that time.
In fact, they would go to the NFC Championship that year.
That's the famous Dwight Clark year. My dad had no

(06:49):
interesting winning Thanksgiving game, so I went and I took
my I took a date with me, my girlfriend at
the time, and the Cowboys won the game ten nine.
It was really kind of nondescriptan boring, and it was
cold that day, and she remembered that that date that
day is now my wife. Wow, Linda and I were
dating in college back then. We would end up splitting

(07:11):
up staying friends and people know our story and all that.
We eventually wound up finding our way back to one.
But we went to that Cowboys Bears game in nineteen
eighty one. But there's lots of Cowboys memories included in that.
Our good friend Mike Hardball Hart remembers Danny White's four
touchdown passes and Tony Hill with a touchdown nineteen eighty five.

(07:36):
He was thirty five to seventeen over the racial slurs.
Washington still went by that the name the Redskins when
they went by that, but they didn't win that game.
I remember other games too that really they were back
to back games. It kind of embittered me. That cost
my team, the Rams, a chance to get in the playoffs.
Seventy one, the Rams played the Cowboys the only time
they've ever played them on Thanksgiving, and if you go

(07:59):
back and look the old school footage of that, the
Rams in those days used to wear white at home
like the Cowboys did, so it was uncommon to see
them where there's dark blue jerseys with the blue helmet
with the white Ram horn, which I think they should
go back to quite frankly.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
But they played that day at Texas Stadium.

Speaker 1 (08:16):
The Cowboys were in the middle of their big run
after they settled on Roger Staubach. But as the heck
of a game, the Cowboys beat the Rams twenty eight
twenty one, and they went on and won the Super Bowl,
and the Rams ended up missing the playoffs by a
half game even though they swept the forty nine Ers,
who won the division that year, So I remember that.
And then the next year, the forty nine Ers went
in and the Cowboys, who would end up going to

(08:39):
the NFC Championship, but the forty nine Ers thumped them
at Texas Totate and beat them thirty one to ten
that day, so I remember, and that cost the Rams
an opportunity to catch them again. They finished one game
back at San Francis, going and swept them during the year.
But I always I remember some of those games back then.
But a lot of folks have other memories of the
Cowboys on Thanksgiving against the Vikings and the Randy Moss

(09:02):
game and all.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
That other stuff.

Speaker 1 (09:04):
So yeah, if you've got a Cowboys Thanksgiving Day memory
or what's vivid about it, good, bad, whatever it might be,
you can let us know on the text line text
the word text is followed by that vivid memory to
eight one five three zero.

Speaker 2 (09:20):
Standard messaging and data rates may apply. All right.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Up next, we'll shift to some basketball were from some
Longhorns on the eve of basketball tournament play coming up
for the women and regular season game on Friday night
for the men. That's next on sports Radio AM thirteen
under the Zone in the iHeartRadio app.
