Speaker 1 (00:00):
Great feedback today and here somebody said the leader of
the band. I'm glad we have the clarification on that, said,
Dan Fogelberg's leader of the band really is a tribute
to his father, who was a high school band director
for many years and gave him the gift of music. Also,
the seventy four Cowboys Thanksgiving game was not televised locally

(00:23):
in Dallas because the game did not sell out. I
was eleven and vividly remember listening on radio and running
around the yard screening when they won. Yeah, the NFL
blackout rule. I had to get used that when I
first came out to Texas, Like, really it didn't sell out.
You hear all the stories about people had the antennas
on top of the roof to pull in Channel twelve

(00:44):
from Sherman Dennison or from Waco or witchdal Falls to
be able to watch the Cowboys if it was not
a sell out. Somebody else said, best Cowboys Thanksgiving Memory.
Two thousand and one against Miami the Dolphins, we're in
the throwback white uniforms. Mini dominated forty twenty one. Ricky
Williams had one hundred and four yards rushing four catches,

(01:08):
forty one yards, Chris Chambers three touchdown catches in the
late great Toby Keith was a really good halftime performance.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
How do you like me now?

Speaker 1 (01:16):
The next day I was back at Texas Stadium with
the high school playoff matchup featuring Highland Park against Hennis
sophomore Matthew Stafford against senior Graham Harrell. Highland Park won
in a high scoring game. It was yeah, great, great
stuff there. And then somebody else mentioned my favorite Thanksgiving memory.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
I remember this.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
It was the first one that was in the state
of Texas, nineteen seventy nine Battle of Texas. Houston Oilers
beat the Cowboys in Irving, back in the good old
days of bum Phillips, Dan Pastrina, Carl Mark, Rob Carpenter,
Billy White, Hues Johnson, Kenny Burrow, J. C. Wilson, Robert Brazil,
Elan Bethay, Tony Fritch, Gift Nilsen, Clipped Parsley, and of

(02:00):
course Earl Campbell, who he had a big touchdown run
in a game, because a victory is still cheritcism as
an Oilers fan in the lovely blue.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Days and wished they could have gone on forever.

Speaker 1 (02:10):
By the way, see Powell also who he said a
friend of his sister in law's in college station saw
drone practice going on at Kyle Field today. Then he
said he really respects Vick and the way they go
at it, you know, hearing Vic Schaefer's comments on that,
let's hear from some long worn men's basketball players as well,

(02:32):
and that would include Kendall Weaver, Longhorn's guard and Kendall
asked about a variety the guys yesterday in that media
session were asked because it was really the first time
with a lot of guys were catching up with a
lot of the players. Were asked about the tournament in

(02:57):
New York and winning in New York and and how
important it was for building team chemistry and all that
other kind of stuff. And so Kendall was asked about
how great it was to have won that tournament in
New York.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
It was great for our team. You know, we played
really two really good teams down there. It kind of
reminds me of the NCAA tournament where you get that
quick turnaround, you got another person out of the other team.

Speaker 4 (03:21):
But I felt like it was good. It was a
good experience.

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Yeah, and being on the road did that help out
the team being able to close the gap and help
with the team bonding?

Speaker 2 (03:32):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (03:33):
It helps a lot, you know, knowing is Texas versus
everybody wherever we go. You know, everybody hates us. So
you know, we just got to stick together and pull
for one another.

Speaker 2 (03:40):
Okay, all right? And how about his mindset?

Speaker 1 (03:43):
Because there's times when you just see him fly in
from nowhere to make him play. Does he carry that
in his mind when he gets on the floor.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Uh, you know, I'm always always thinking of crash you know,
be aggressive, just trying to get an extra possession for
my team. You know, every possession matters in games like
that or in every game.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
So just to be me, you know, go out there
and do my best. All right.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
So the players, you haven't quite figured out the roles yet,
as they still trying to symbole all this, should they
follow that same type of mindset?

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Go out make some plays and see how you can help.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Yeah, we have a few crashers and give back guys,
you know, give back guys or when the shot goes up,
we want them like off the screen nobody can see them,
you know, for our transition defense.

Speaker 4 (04:22):
But you know we have a.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Couple of guys like me, when the shot goes up,
you can just go down there and try to make
something happen.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
One of those guys is Tremon Mark, who just rejoined
the team, and of course he'd have the the sore
ankle knock down a couple of threes in each game.
And he was asked about how the return of Tremont Mark,
the Arkansas transfer, has helped his team.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Uh, toomar, you know, he's a great leader in space,
the floy he's a defender, playmaker, he does it all really,
so I think he really helps us. You know, you know,
if I need a blow, Try needs a blow, he
can come in and fill those spots.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (04:55):
If you saw the game against Saint Joe's, you saw
how physical it was. I mean bodies were hitting the
deck really in both games, but certainly in that Saint
Joe's game. And so Kenn Weavers asked if the physical
nature of that contest might help the team going forward,
especially once it get an SEC play.

Speaker 4 (05:12):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (05:13):
Yeah, we know it was gonna be a very physical game.
You know, they crash. I think one of the players
had like thirteen offense rebounds or something, and we emphasized crashing,
but you know, we just got to hit them, and
I think it helps us a lot in sec play.

Speaker 4 (05:24):
You know, we're gonna play big teams.

Speaker 3 (05:26):
Bigger teams not are gonna go crash, and I feel
like Discott reporter, our messages crash and I mean, just got.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
To hit them and that might help.

Speaker 4 (05:35):
Now.

Speaker 1 (05:36):
Arthur Caluma was asked about the team kind of gelling,
still trying to work on doing that we hear coach
Rodney Terry and other players talk about.

Speaker 2 (05:44):
So he was asked, how will they know when they gelled?

Speaker 5 (05:47):
From my experience, I feel like teams don't really start
playing their best basketball until January. And then once you
guys start playing your best basketball and you feel like,
you know, everybody knows the offense, knows their role and
what they got to do within the game in order
to be successful.

Speaker 4 (06:03):
I feel like that's when you start playing your best basketball.

Speaker 5 (06:06):
So just as far as everything else goes, I mean,
we're just in here and building our bond together as
a team.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Repractice and doesn't mean that the season is starting off
the way that he wants it to go.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
Yeah, No, I mean smooth, I could say, yeah, yeah,
but For the most part, it's more like just being consistent.
You know, I've been really focused on staying in the gym,
consistently working on every single aspect of my game that
I can, and then obviously a lot of the team
stuff comes from practice. I've been trying to be a

(06:41):
very vocal leader, and I'm just enjoying my time. Man,
It's my last year of college basketball. I gotta live
it to the fullest.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Yeah, this is so a little more specificity from Art
on what parts of his game he's still trying to
get better at continues to work.

Speaker 5 (07:00):
They probably just my three point shot, and you know,
I haven't really taken a lot of threes. But once
they start giving it to me and I start feeling
clean looks, I'm never going to force it. I feel
like I'll be able to have a good shot at
my percentage being high all right there.

Speaker 1 (07:14):
So there's some thoughts from both Kenda Weaver and Arthur Kaluma.
The next game for the Long Orange Friday Nights, an
eight o'clock tip at Moody Center night before the Texas
Texas A and M game.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
A good good fit right in the middle.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
If you want to come down to Moody Center and
watch his Texas team play, and we'll also broadcast before
you seven thirty year time eight.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
