Speaker 1 (00:04):
It's the Craig Way Show with the voice of the
Texas Longhorns and Hall of Vane Broadcasting Craig Way.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
All thanks again to Jean Watson joining us. Fuck some
winter meetings, baseball going on? All right, I want to
get back to some football and hero a little more
from Long Worn's head coach Steve Sarkisian.
Speaker 4 (00:33):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
First of all, some talk about.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
How does he feel about the team from an energy
and health standpoint, because he's got a lot of guys
banged up and that's why they're taking a few days lost.
Speaker 3 (00:49):
So how does sort feel about all that?
Speaker 4 (00:51):
Yeah, I mean, I think we'd all want to be
healthier than we are, right we're we're not one, you know,
and then that, but I don't know who is Indie.
You know, this is just the nature of the beast
right now. But I sure would like to get healthier
this week. I sure would like to get some guys
closer to one hundred percent than where they were over
(01:12):
the last few weeks. And I think mentally, you know
that you know, there was it was the emotional month,
you know, we had to we had to kind of
go back into Arkansas kind of the scene of the
crime from year one. I know that was a lot
on our players plates. We had Senior Day, which that's
always a lot on your veteran players on Senior Day.
(01:32):
Then we had going to A and M and going
back to Kyle Field after a thirteen year hiatus, and
all the emotions that went into that ball game when
that was like and then to turn around and go
back this week to play Georgia again in Atlanta for
an SEC championship game and go all the way into
overtime and all that that was.
Speaker 5 (01:50):
And so we need to we need to recharge. We
need to you know, refresh our batteries.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Our guys need a few days and they need a
few days to get you know, get themselves back physically,
but also I think mentally and not that we're in
great spirits, and I think guys are all excited about
the opportunity that we have in front of us, but
they need a little bit of a break, you know,
because it's been one week after the next of high stress,
(02:15):
high level stuff that's going on, and so we need
to give them a chance to step away for a
minute and then so when they come back, they're really
wired in and focused with the right intent and the
right sense of urgency needed to go compete here next
Saturday against Clemson.
Speaker 2 (02:30):
All right, I want to bring up a couple of
points on a couple of things here on the text line,
because I decided to listen to your show instead of
Fine Bomb.
Speaker 3 (02:38):
But I'm sure I'm.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Missing some epic Bama meltdown. There's probably that. And then
somebody else had said Texas could beat Oregon if they
don't give it away like Georgia.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
I would just say hold off in the car wash.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
They have to win three two games to get to
Oregon in the semifinals, and he says they have the
better defense by far the worst kicker though. I want
to say this because over the last whatever forty eight
hours or so, the two guys who seem to have
gotten the most grief out of the Texas loss are
(03:14):
Burt Auburn and Quinn Eewers, and not in that order either,
by the way, but both of them, Quinn Ewers and
Burt Auburn. Burt missed two field goals. He made three
this season, he said sixty five percent of them. He
hasn't been as sharp as some of the others, but
he's also now the all time leading field goal kicker
at Texas. Now that can fall on the offense not
(03:37):
being able to get the job done to get it
in the end zone as well.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
I get that.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
I understand that, But I would say Burt's hit some
big field goals and he hit the one to tie
it that they had to have, and he hit the
one to give him the lead in overtime as well.
Of the two he missed, only one is in my opinion,
is one where he goes the forty two yarder, and
that came Remember after he banged home the thirty seven
yarder was waved off due to a false starch, which
(04:02):
nobody could seem to understand how that was called, but
it was called, and then trying again from forty two
he missed it. The other one he missed was a
fifty one yarder. You get beyond fifty, it's a bit
more iffy there. So I would say he's given the
Longhorns a lot more than he has not.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Given them when called on. That's something to think of.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
And for those are grumblin about Quinn yours, Sark said
it himself. He had one of his best games. Yeah,
he had a tip pass interception he had another interception
as well, but he also made some fit throws that
were amazing and did some things. He played really well
coming through the injuries that he's had. So a lot
(04:41):
more than quarterback play that goes into a championship game,
win or lose.
Speaker 3 (04:44):
But anyway, Sark says, how important.
Speaker 2 (04:47):
Was it for him in his opinion, Quinn playing so
well for his confidence since he played so well.
Speaker 5 (04:54):
Super gutsy performance from Quinn.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
You know he's not one hundred percent, but he battled
and he competed, and like I said, there weren't a
whole lot of just clean pockets.
Speaker 5 (05:04):
You know, they do a great job of making it
money for the quarterback.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
I thought he did a much better job of stepping
up in the pocket, delivering throws under dress into tight windows,
getting outside the pocket, making plays that way.
Speaker 5 (05:18):
So all in all, you know, I was, I was
pleased with that.
Speaker 4 (05:22):
You know, I sure wish for him we could have
found a way to dial something up to get somebody
really open for him there when we when we got.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
Down there late, just couldn't get that done.
Speaker 4 (05:32):
So like I said, you know, I was, I was
really proud of him, and I know he feels good
about having the ability to move around a little bit,
and you know he hasn't been able to hear for
quite some time.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yeah, and remember the Long Words had a season high
in drops.
Speaker 3 (05:47):
Keep that in mind as well.
Speaker 2 (05:49):
How about hosting a playoff game as far as.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
The to me, this is one of the bonuses of
playing in the first round, but yet having a home game,
so we get another opportunity at dk R. School's just
going to be wrapping up, looking forward to a great environment.
Like I said yesterday, I appreciate all of Longhorn Nation
and their support in Atlanta yesterday, but we're going to
(06:12):
need one hundred and five thousand strong a week from Saturday,
three o'clock against Clemson inaugural you know, college football playoff game.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
And in round one.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
And and that's the beauty of this new format that
you get a home game. And so looking forward to
seeing everybody there as we build towards it and appreciate
all that they do and supporting us.
Speaker 2 (06:32):
So and finally he was asked if there's anything he
can lean on, having now had some.
Speaker 3 (06:38):
Playoff experience in last year's playoff.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
As far as the.
Speaker 4 (06:43):
Kind of correlation, you know, I think that the difference is,
you know, last year there was so much time off.
It would be as if we had a buy in
this year's in this year's playoff, and so in some aspects, man,
you really want that buy because you want that extended time,
you want that rest. But in the same notion, you know,
(07:05):
I felt like that hurt us a little bit last
year where we we did have the layoff and we
weren't quite as sharp as we could have been there
against Washington. So I kind of like that that it's
almost like a bye week this week, and then we
get to go play next week, and then it kind
of goes under those saying that same cycle of days
(07:26):
leading up to the National Championship. So, but the good
thing is for us, I don't think the moment's going
to be too big for our guys. You know, we've
been in some really big games now over the last
two years, and I think our guys are comfortable in
that environment. And clearly you want to play your best football,
and I think we can and we need to play
better than we played yesterday.
Speaker 5 (07:46):
But I don't think the moment will be too big
for us, which I think is a good thing.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
All right. There, It is from Sark.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
I'll tell you what we're going to hold on with
that other audio that we have from Dabosweeney and bring
it in tomorrow because there's some good stuff he has
to say about Andrew Bakuba and Kay klub Nick returning
to Austin and all that kind of stuff. So we'll
bring that to you tomorrow and we'll be back to
wrap up today's edition of the program on sports Radio
AM thirteen under the zone of the iHeartRadio app.
