Speaker 1 (00:00):
As we continue to navigate your way through a hump
day a yacht rock Wednesday reminder Tonight Texas Women's basketball
at seven o'clock from Moody Center, as the Longhorns will
be taking on the Jaguars of Southern University. We're gonna
hear from Vic Schaeffer. He did his media zoom. It
was extensive enough to where we wanted to. We split
(00:20):
it up in the parts we're worrying you, one part
of it coming up in the next segment and then
one in the four o'clock hour as well, So we'll
do that. Just updating you on a couple of baseball things.
The Winter meetings are going on a big trade between
the Red Sox and the White Sox. See, I don't
(00:41):
know that Gene Watson was necessarily playing possum with us
on Monday was two days ago, but we'll get into
recap it all and it's done. They did send left
hander Garrett Crochet to the White Sicks. You know, Crochet
was the guy the Dodgers wanted when they made the trade,
that three way trade with the White Socks and the Cardinals,
which proving to be I'm gonna say in Los Angeles
(01:05):
Dodger history. One of the greatest trades I've ever made,
the prospects they sent when they got Tommy Evan from
the Cardinals. All he did was be the MVP of
the NLCS when they won the Nation League Championship Series.
And then the other guy they got was the closer,
Michael Kopak, and it turned out to be great. Kopek
(01:26):
did a heck of a job for them the rest
of the regular season in the postseason, but that was
they took Colepeck because they couldn't get Garrett Crochet and
they you know, had had to alter their thinking a
little bit, and so they ended up getting Crochet or
(01:47):
did not get him. They ended up getting Copek. And
so now the White Sox have traded Crochet to the
Red Sox in exchange for catcher Kyle Teal, outfielder Braden Montgomery,
remember Braid Montgomery, infielder Chase Maydroth, and right hander this
(02:09):
is really his name, Wicklman Gonzalez.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Wickleman Gonzalez is his name.
Speaker 1 (02:17):
So anyway, there's the that's the one big deal that
has happened so far. Today, there's a lot of rumor
about Nolan Aronado. He may wind up with the Yankees
or a couple others. Hey, yeah, happy that Nathan Vivaldi's
going back to the Rangers.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
Three year deal. I am. I think seventy five million.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
That's a little bit over what he was projected to
get going into this off season. But hey, he was
a huge part of the twenty three year old Series championship.
Excited to have him back in the fold next year.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
How about getting Jake Berger from the Marlins. Rangers got
him too. They got him in exchange for two shortstop prospects,
is Dry Vargas and Maxicosta. Uh and Max a Coosta
played a round rock, didn't didn't you?
Speaker 2 (03:04):
I thought, I remember listening to Brian.
Speaker 1 (03:05):
I don't think he was there, Okay, Max Acosta and
a young left handed starting pitcher in Brian Mendoza. Berger,
who's twenty eight years old, is as controllable as they say.
For four years, he had sixty three home runs with
the Marlins and the White Sox over the past two years.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
Dude was a Dodger killer.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Every time the Dodgers played the Marlins, Jake Berger was
hitting a freaking home run or two.
Speaker 2 (03:34):
He was.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
He was something else. So anyway, I think that's a
good pick up for the Rangers. Corner endfielder, who can
who can belt the ball a little bit. I think
that's that's that's pretty good for Texas.
Speaker 3 (03:44):
Yeah, getting some offensive help for this next year's team
is top of the priority list because the offense last
year was not great and so improving that, but then
their bat is huge.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
Yeah. A couple of awards.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
Now, a long time Cleveland Now Guardians broadcaster Tom Hamilton,
I'm been doing it thirty five years was he won
the Ford Frick Award. That means he'll be inducted into
the Baseball Hall of Fame. So congratulate and by the way,
congratulations my good friend, play by play voice of the
Baylor Bears, John Morris. He was awarded with the Christiankle
(04:21):
Award for College Football Broadcasting Excellence at that college football
banquet out in Las Vegas. So congratulations to Jamo. Great
well earned and all around great guys as we always know. Okay,
here's the story that I saved, and I didn't want
to get into it. I'd originally thought I might put
(04:42):
it an inconceivable because it's that goofy, but I decided
not to it deserved its own special place.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Here's the headline.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Cam flag planting at Ohio State would be a felony
under a proposed law.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
Oh gos.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
You know, there was two two events today. There was
this and then did you see the thing that I
think yesterday the Georgia dude, Yeah, that was yesterday. Who
voted for that?
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Yeah, Georgia congressman who said wanted a resolution of Texas
be sent back to the Big twelve.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
He was grand standing because Georgia won the game. Okay,
that's cool whatever you said that Georgia smoked Texas. Yeah,
and overtime.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
Yeah, all right, Well it's political rhetoric as we know.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
But anyway, how about this one.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
If Ohio state representative, not Ohio State University a state
representative Josh Williams gets his way, teams attempting to plant
their flags in the middle of Ohio Stadium during Ohio
State games will be dealing with more than.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Just the pepper spray like they had at the deal.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
Williams introduced to bill yesterday that would classify flag planting
at Ohio Stadium around Buckeye's football games as a felony.
The dot H DOT I dot Dot Sportsmanship Act, authored
by Williams, comes in response to Michigan's attempt to plant
its flag after a November thirtieth win at Ohio State
(06:14):
that set off the brawl between the teams, and police
had to employ pepper spray to separate players another team personnel.
Ohio State University Police are investigating the incident, which involved
multiple law enforcement agencies and resulted in an injury to
an officer. According to Williams bill, no person shall plan
a flag pole with a flag attached to it in
(06:35):
the center of the football field at Ohio Stadium of
the Ohio State University on the day of a college
football competition, whether before, during, or after the competition. Whoever
violates this section is guilty of a felony of the
fifth degree.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
It's the LAE severe in Ohio.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Kerrey is a penalty of six to twelve months in prison,
up to twenty five hundred dollars fine, and up to
five years pro bation.
Speaker 2 (07:01):
So yeah, So.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
The the two year General Assembly closes next week, so
this Sportsmanship Act likely will need to be reintroduced in
the next cycle.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Again, it's a grand standing thing, is what that is.
So what's what's the downside of a flag planning?
Speaker 3 (07:21):
Just might lead to a fight on the football field,
But that happens all the time, anything in.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
Danger and all that kind of stuff.
Speaker 1 (07:26):
And there was pepper spray to boy said, an officer
was injured and all that other kind of stuff. And
they're saying this is more about just being a little
bit but hurt, just a little bit, you know, a
little bit upset about that deal. So anyway, that's it's
all Baker Mayfield's fault because he was the first thing
to do it, right, he is the first to do
it Wio State, you know, waved the flag. Yeah, he
(07:49):
was the first to do it. And remember who opens
the season in Columbus next year. I'd be here Texas
long orangs they would not be trying to plan a flag.
They didn't even they weren't even trying to plant a
flag in College Station, which by the way, is natural grass,
so that would have been easier to do that on
field turf. But they weren't trying to. They were just
kind of gathering around and Makuba kicked up some dirt
(08:11):
or where there was something thing, but there was a
sark got out there quickly and because no, no.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
No, we're not doing that. We're not doing it going
in take it on in, and they did and they
did so.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
Uh anyway that I just thought it was an interesting,
uh an interesting take on all of that. All Right,
coming up, we're gonna hear from Loghorn women's head basketball
coach Vick Schaeffer on the eve of tonight's matchup with
Southern here on sports Radio AM thirteen under the Zone.
