Speaker 1 (00:00):
Glad to be with you on a Monday.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
We're gonna hear more from Long Horns head coach Steve
Sarkishan coming up here in just a few minutes from
the long Horns Monday press conference. Like I said, I
don't know exactly how it would fall if I'm just
looking at a calendar here, if if and this is
the if, obviously, if the Longhorns were able to win

(00:28):
to advance to play in the Peach Bowl in the
quarterfinals against Arizona State, that is on New Year's Day,
and I'm just looking yet, they wouldn't do a press
conference here on the thirtieth, and I doubt they would
do one on the twenty third next Monday.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
You would have to all be online on zoom.

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Yeah, until I get in in Atlanta and they have
the you know, the press conferences with the coordinators and
all that other kind of stuff. So that we had
today may well have been the final, uh Monday press
conference of the season. With Sorry, it won't be his
final media availability obviously, he'll have his Thursday media zoom there.
Even they had a lot of player availability stuff today.

(01:16):
Tomorrow we're going to hear some from Quinn Ewers, and
so they had they had that. They're even doing a
video window this afternoon for the local TVs and others
to shoot some some clips of videos, so you have
some fresh practice footage there of the Loghorns. And as

(01:38):
I mentioned Cam, it's looking more and more promising for
this week the game on Saturday. Right now, the forecast
is calling for sunny skies and a.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
High of sixty two degrees. I love that.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
Yeah, I mean I've seen it where it was as
much as sixty four sixty five, but there's right now
it's saying sixty two. I'm fine with sixty two on Saturday.
Good football watching. You're playing to sit in your seats,
right yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Is your dad going to be back from Portugal or
is he so? I think so trapesing all over Europe.

Speaker 3 (02:13):
He face tied me from a some sort of soccer store,
asking if I wanted to Christiano Ronaldo Jersey said I
did not, No, no Ronaldo Jerseys for me. MESSI yeah, no, no, no,
We'll see. I'll come back speaking fluent Portuguese probably Yeah,
there you go, h okay. But but you're thinking he's
going to go to the game, Yeah, I think little

(02:35):
father son bonding first time all season.

Speaker 1 (02:37):
It'll be fun. Okay, fun, Okay, that's good. That's good. Uh.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
That was he was there at the Quinn you Weres
first k Club Nick one, the original.

Speaker 1 (02:47):
He was there at at and T Stadium. I was
there too, remember that.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Well, yeah, that was Westlake beating South like Carolin the
state championship rown for that. And let me tell you,
kid club Nick played well that day. He really did.
That evening Quinn Youwers played pretty well that evening too.
That game went to a lot of other things. The
defense got some big stops and there were some turnovers

(03:13):
and things like that.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
There was also a cad Club Nick.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Think about this now, there was a caid Club Nick
to Michael Taff touchdown pass in that game. Mookie Taff
scored a touchdown or receiving touchdown in that game, speaking
of which he's named second team AP All American today.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
How about that? Dude?

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Was was a walk on and now he's second team
All American.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
That's great to hear. Great news.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
Congratulations to Michael Taff. Among the other long Orange games.
As we say, you get a chance to reach out
to the program if you want. We ever a text
line available. If you like the Texas, you can text
the word Texas follow by your questionner comment to eight
one five three zero. Again, the word is Texas followed
by your questioner comment to eight one five threes zero.

(04:01):
That's what you text standard messaging in data RHSP applot.
You can also reach us via the talkback feature on
the iHeartRadio app. If you don't have the iHeartRadio app,
download it on your phone.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
Very easy to do.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
You download that, then you go to where it's is
AM thirteen under the zone. You pull that up in
the search and then you'll see two buttons. One of
the little white triangular button. That's if you want to
listen to the on air content going on at the time.
Then there's another button, a little red one with a
white microphone. You tap that button and you can leave
us up to a thirty second message like this guy did.

Speaker 4 (04:40):
Craig, There's been some confusion about Texas being a home
team versus a host team. It sounds like the NC
DOUBLEA is trying to make this like the basketball tournaments.
So will there be an NC DOUBLEA logo on top
of the fifty and will they allow for the smoke

(05:03):
and the stadium lights, the smoke.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Okay, that is a very reasonable question.

Speaker 2 (05:13):
By the way, you could tell you got thirty seconds
leave the message, so we'll cut you off into thirty seconds.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
But I understood the question.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
I wouldn't get too caught up in the NCAA semantics
on this. First of all, it's college football playoff. Try
not to confuse the college FOOTBA playoff for the NCAAA.
You want to try to not tie that up. That's
one thing too. Everything that I have been told is
that this is going to be operated and executed like
a standard regular Texas long worn home football game.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Now, you make a very good point.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
That maybe the NCAA does it like that, kind of
like what they do with the baseball regionals or women's
basketball hosting first and second round. You know, men's basketball,
they go to true neutral sites are pretty close to
neutral sites anyway, Like for example, one of the sites
this year, I think it's going to be Wichita that's
about one hundred and fifty miles or so from Lawrence, Kansas.

(06:11):
But Kansas may wind up playing there, but it's not
their home floor. I think the NCAA rule is it
can't be a floor where you are an arena where
you've played more than three times for it to if
you want it to be a neutral site. So anyway,
I think from everything I hear, it's going to be
treated and operated as a standard home football game. So

(06:37):
to the second part of your question about the smoke
and the players run out of the tunnel, I think
all that's going to happen.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
I think everything else is going to be there.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
There may be some NCA slash college Football Playoff.

Speaker 1 (06:52):
Logo type.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
I think the college Football Playoff logo will definitely be
on the field. If you watched the press conference with
start to day, either online on the LHN app or
Long Network dot com, or if you watch on KBVO
this morning, you would have seen Sark sitting in front
of a college Football Playoff backdrop, not the regular standard

(07:16):
Texas when it was that black banner that has that
the College Football Playoff, the National Championship Trophy that I
always think looks like a giant ash tray.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
That one.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Okay, that that that was all on the bannering that
was behind Sark this morning. So yes, I do think
you'll see logo presence in different places or maybe on
the field. I believe I was told that, and this
might only be for if they advanced to the Peach Bowl.

(07:45):
I'm not sure because this this applied to the SEC Championship.
No sponsor decorated medical tents. It's got to be standard
like school color. You can't have like St. David's.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
St. David's Medical Center, you can't have that.

Speaker 2 (08:05):
I think that's going to be the case with that,
But otherwise it's going to be a pretty standard home
game type setup on Saturday afternoon.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
I hope that answers the question for you there.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
All right, let's see, somebody asked me, let's see, did
you talk about the Longview South Lake Carrol game. I did,
but I will repeat it because Southlake Carrol is going
to play Vandergrift for the state championship. After the Vipers
had their nice come from behind when they were down
ten points in the second quarter, ended up winning a

(08:36):
thriller over a favored Summer Creek team and they won
that contest thirty four to thirty one, they will play
South Lake Carrol. South Lake Carol defeated the long View.
Now the game was tied at seventeen. Southlake Carol lined
up to kick a game winning field goal. The field
goal was no good, however, the officials ruled running in

(09:00):
to the kicker against Longview. Now I'm gonna be honest
with you, I did not. I was a little busy
at the time. I was calling the Westlake North Shore
game for FanDuel Sports Network Southwest, so I was on
the air at the time, so I didn't get to
see it.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
We just saw the graphic.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Now, I did see the replay because obviously I did
Scoreboard live late Saturday night. We did a live show
Laturday Saturday night, and we had the highlights of the
Longview South Lake Carol game and the end zone that
the shot of the field goal comes from the end
zone camera, so you don't even really see the contact.

(09:39):
You just see the ball miss and if you look
to your left and you see all the long View
fans jumping up and down and going crazy. But then
they tell us no, it's running into the kicker, and
then they line up exact same camera angle.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
This time it goes through and Carol wins.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
I have seen one one side angle coming from the
sideline and there were a lot of people upset, especially
from the longbea side.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
That said the official was.

Speaker 2 (10:09):
Deeked into throwing the flag, and that the kicker for
Carol did a really good job of making it look
like a defender ran into him. But I couldn't tell
from the side angle that I watched. I just saw
the guy flying past and I saw the kicker go down.

(10:30):
So in that respect, I'm not the best person to
ask about this because I didn't have a really good
put it this way, If those were the only angles
and you were using instant replay to determine whether there
had been contact, the call would have been upheld to.
The call would have stood that the kick that there
was roughing or running into the kicker. Because you couldn't

(10:51):
tell enough from the one angle that I saw doesn't
mean it didn't happen. And it may have and it
may not, and maybe it didn't happen. Maybe there was
a running into the kicker, maybe there was, but that
was the officials call, and he really couldn't see it
from the two camera angles I saw. But South Lake
Carol wins. They're in and they are playing Dandy Griff
Saturday afternoon at three o'clock in the sixth A Division

(11:13):
two State Championship. Westlake will play North Crowley at seven
o'clock for the six A Division One title. All right,
up next, we'll hear more from Long Worts head coach
Steve Sarkishan here on sports Radio AM thirteen under the
Zone in the IRT Radio app
