Speaker 1 (00:03):
We're back. It's the Craig Way Show with Hall of
Fame broadcaster and voice of the Texas Longhearts Craig Way. Hey,
before we get to Rodney Terry, a couple of cheeky
questions on the text line. We're more happy to field
your cheeky questions. First of all, with regard to I
(00:25):
mentioned the fan Duel Sports Network. That's the network. It's
find it's the same place you did Balley Sports Southwest
and before that Fox Sports Southwest, so on and so forth,
and all the way back I mentioned HSSE. Somebody said, hey,
HSC former home of the Astros and Rockets. It was
in addition to Rangers and Mavericks and Stars, and you
know Dallas and Houston pro soccer teams as well, and
(00:51):
the Dallas Wings most recently they're in the WNBA. And
then somebody said, what's the name next week, I'll tell
you what when they tell me, I'll tell you. I
just show up and at work on those games or
the studio shows. It was their last Saturday night. We
have one final studio show that we're going to do
(01:13):
on Sunday, Sunday morning, I think live at ten thirty
and then averear Sunday evening recapping the entirety of the
high school football season. But that's after all those state
championship games air on the network starting Wednesday morning at eleven,
and so it's called fan Duel Sports Network Southwest, and
that's how it is across the country. A lot of
those other regional sports networks, they're known as FanDuel Sports
(01:36):
Network wherever South or West or whatever. So there's that.
Then somebody said, did did anyone ask Sark where Quinn
will transfer to if he decides not to enem the
draft this year? Again cheeky. I think it's a pretty
(01:56):
safe bet that one of two things happened. Quinn enters
the NFL Draft the most likely scenario, or he returns
to Texas. I don't see him going anywhere else as
a collegiate. Everything that I have been told seems to
indicate that he is dialed in on finishing this season
(02:20):
as a long worn in uniform. Somebody last week put
on Facebook Quinn is declared for the NFL. No, he's not.
And I think Bobby Burton with on three Bobby Burton
said at sometime like, look let me see if I'm
clarify this for you, quin yours is finishing this season,
then he's probably going to go to the NFL Draft.
(02:41):
So I've seen it there and I've seen it in
a couple other places as well, so I think that's
probably going to be the case. All right, So there
you are. And again, if you want to text us,
you can text the program. Text the word texas followed
by your question or comment to eight one five three
zero standard messaging and data rates me plot. All right,
(03:01):
let's hear from long Ort's head coach, Rodney Terry Longrrens
won one, twenty one to fifty seven. You know, one
of the most exciting things about the game, You know,
they had the whole they chose to hold Trey Johnson
out of the game. His sore right hip could have
played if it was a game they really needed to
win or needed him to win. Clearly, they figured they'd
do okay not playing Trey, and so they didn't. I
(03:23):
don't know what his status will be for Thursday against
New Orleans. We'll find out about that. Their next game
isn't until the Sunday after Christmas, the twenty ninth, so
he might he might not see action on Thursday night
against Uno. I think he'd probably be back for sure
if he wasn't already, but probably back for sure on
(03:43):
the twenty ninth because they're trying to get him ready
and the team ready for SEC play. But they won
one twenty one to fifty seven. And one of the
cool things about it was seeing two guys play really
well who've had limited action as reserves, mainly because they
been injured throughout the start of their collegiate careers. Devon
Pryor last year didn't get to play much and had
(04:06):
knee injury. He's back, he's healthy. He had ten points.
And then how about Nick Cody, highly rated freshman in
from Carroll toon Newman Smith. He had been injured and
in a slow return back, and he had twenty points
in the game, played really really well. So that was
all part of on the mind of Longhorn's head coach,
Rodney Terry when we visit with him after the game. Well,
we mentioned this not only because of you making the
(04:29):
decision to hold Tray out today, but even so just
to get other guys from work and a look at
other guys. You had eight guys scoring double figures today.
I know you look at more than just the scoring.
But what about your overall assessment of what you saw.
Speaker 2 (04:40):
I thought we had really good energy and activity on defense.
I thought our guys came in and really tried to
go at hard. A lot of guys that got valuable.
Every minute's valuable right now, especially with our young guys
that are literally developing right now in front of us,
you know. But I thought they came in and really
tried to go at hard. I thought they shared the basketball, that.
Speaker 1 (04:59):
Moved the ball.
Speaker 2 (05:00):
We got, we got good live work against his own
uh for a better part of the game. And uh,
And I was pleased. I was leaves with die effort.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
I really was. Yeah, they had to get you back
engaged by getting you to call a time out early.
You know what.
Speaker 2 (05:13):
You just so much right now. And I talked to
our guys every day about habits. Everything's habits. Life is
about habits. You know. You have to you have to
continue to build great habits, you know, and you know
again where we're about, who we're about to and balk
on and play, we have to have great habits. We
got to be able to do what we do. And
you know know we could hang our hat on starting
has the right way, sitting down garden and then just
(05:35):
taking care of the basketball and executing at a high level.
And I didn't think we were doing that the start,
and I didn't want us to fall in that run
and doing that, you know. Uh.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
I mentioned on the air, and one of the reasons
I wanted to visit with the Vine prior and with
Nick Cody on the post game, which we did, was
to talk about how long worn fans got a chance
to see what those guys win healthy, what they can
do for you.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Yeah, no, young talent, young talented guys range. You still
gotta gotta get to build the bodies. He gets stronger,
but they're they have that potential, you know in terms
of you know, where they could be that those guys
have high center. Of those young players, you know, getting
a chance to play valuable minutes game meaningful times. I
think it's really good for those guys. They both got
(06:16):
an opportunity to do that today for us, and you know,
they practice really hard. Dp's back healthy now, which is
a big deal. You know, he had a really good summon,
a really good fall, but then he got injured and
he was out for about three weeks and it was
really hard for him. You know, with the may many
guys you played in the film, grade, you're gonna have
some new names come up in the in the evaluation.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
I'm sure they're they're waiting waiting for that.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
That's a good problem to have, you know, you want
you want to uh to have guys or reward guys
for how hard they work and the work they put in,
give them opportunities to to step in there and uh
and and you know, getting Bill your bench. I mean,
you never know, it's a long season and uh, everybody's
gonna have to be ready to play on any given night.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
How about these next few days as you built back
up to where the New Orleans came on Thursday.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
Well, guys, we're gonna give a chance to kind of
recover a little bit mentally and physically that they've had
a long week of finals and getting papers done and
getting through the academic part of everything. You know, next
week they'll have a chance a couple of days here
to finish out our non comferens late here before before
the break, you know, basketball, and just kind of focus
(07:25):
on continue to get better as a team before we
take like a five day break.
Speaker 1 (07:28):
All right, So there it is, long worns head coach
Rodney Cherry Texas and now with the win and of
pinging their mark tonight into all right up next, we'll
get you ready for some more sark, and we'll be
back to wrap up our number two on sports Radio
and thirteen under the own
