Speaker 1 (00:03):
And we're back to the Craig Way Show. Have a
message for Craig, share it by you see the talkback
feature on the iHeartRadio.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
App here on this Monday afternoon of Long Horns Monday,
as we continue here on Sports Radio AM thirteen hundred
sent Okay, So in case you missed it, if it
was lost to you during the course of the weekend
(00:33):
with everything that was going on with the NFL and
some of the other stories and the Heisman try. By
the way, no big exprise on the Heisman trouphy. I
was I was actually surprised that the vote was as
close as it was. You know, I understand Travis Cuentner
winning it. The real problem with that, although what Ashton
(00:54):
genty was, what he did and has accomplished, is amazing.
But everything I'd read and heard of it was that
the vote was going to be a little more widespread
than it was, and it was not. It was pretty close. Actually,
what the closest vote since two thousand and nine, I
think they said something like that. So that's some respect
(01:16):
for gent for sure. And Navy thump an army. Can
you imagine, you know, if we were following that fantasy
we were doing for a few weeks about if Army
and Navy had remained unbeaten and then got to play
(01:36):
in the American Conference Championship game for the right because
of the playoff, and let's say that Army won it
to get to go to the playoffs, and then Navy
drills them like that in their regularly scheduled Army Navy game,
which would have no impact on the playoff because they
(01:57):
would have played each other the week before in the
American Athletics Championship game that was for the birth. And
say Army had won it, and then they play a
week later in Washington and Navy does the deed and
beats him. It would have split had that happen. But
I know a lot of folks were surprised because Army
had only lost the one ball game uh there, and
(02:20):
that they were the conference champions then wind up getting
thumped by Navy, so they didn't They won the conference championship,
but obviously didn't get into the playoffs. The lost and
under day erased that possibility. Okay, basketball, What I started
to say was for those of you who might not
(02:42):
have noticed it because of everything that was going on
during the course of the weekend. You didn't see what
happened with the NBA the Emirates NBA Cup. Cameron Parker's
Oklahoma City Thunder advanced to the final. Whether it take
on the Milwaukee Bucks, Like I said, at least it
kind of. I think it gives the the Cup a
(03:03):
little more credibility like it did last year with Lebron
and the Lakers in it.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
M credibility. I mean, Lakers were playing Team Craig and
they won the Cups. So what I think.
Speaker 2 (03:13):
The Lakers had the name though you have the name.
Speaker 1 (03:15):
So I mean even terms of like you know, the
brand names and brand players. Sure, I mean, you can't
get any bigger than Lebron James. But for this matchup,
you know, it's it doesn't feel like the league is
excited about it. I mean in the on the NBA
website on the app to the the preview, in the
preview article for Rockets Thunder, it literally said the author, now,
(03:38):
course isn't working you know, for the League's working for
the league website that we use on the app. But
he said, well, the NBA, you know, probably wasn't happy
to have Rockets Thunder in the semifinal. But I was
officially on the app there. That's coming from an NBA
dot com writer saying, well, you know we didn't get
the Golden State and the Lakers, or Phoenix in the
(03:58):
Lakers or what not or the mad Average. Yeah right, hey,
I'll tell you tell you what, whether you like it
or not, the Rockets and the Thunder are here this
day the next decade, these are going to be two
franchises that have enough talent and great head coaching, good ownership,
or they're going to be around for the significant future
(04:21):
because okay, See is not going anywhere, Houston not go anywhere.
They're your young team. They're only going to get better.
So league's got to figure out a way to market
these teams in these stars a little bit better because right,
tell you what, Leron James, you're twenty two, can't play defense.
He's getting old Curry, he's got a couple of years left.
You know, you got to figure out a way to
(04:42):
make these matchups marketable. And in the NBA is doing
an awful job. I mean, the ratings are lowest it's
spending and quite some time, even though the contract for
NBA rights is the highest ever been so as a
basketball junkie and thunder fan. I am pumped for this
game at the same time, doesn't feel like the casual
fans are.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
We got to figure out a way to bridge that
cap and he won't count in the regular season standings.
Whereas all the other games did, this one doesn't, which
is kind of odd. You know, you're talking about the
NBA marketing players.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
Can he you know who?
Speaker 2 (05:11):
They need to stop marketing or at least for a
little while. Joel Embiid. Sure take a break on Joel Embiid.
Now he's out in definitely with a sinus fracture. He
got hit in the face, so there was that. He
was battling Benedict Mathern of the Pacers and he called
(05:32):
an errant form and an elbow to the face. They
took him out early in the second half because of
impact the right side of the face in the cheek
and nose area. So he's out in definitely.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Philly is seven and sixteen. Greig, there are two games
back for the plan. They you know, they can make
a run here the second half of the season, but
not the first half that Daryl Morey was hoping to
see after and he made the acquisition for Paul George,
I think a bit, a little bit, some of us
are surprised that they're seven and sixteen, but Embiid cannot
stay on the court, and at some point you're going
(06:05):
to run out of time here. All right, we'll be
back and wrap up today's program on Sports Radio AM thirteen.
Speaker 2 (06:09):
End of the Zone,
