Speaker 1 (00:00):
I wanted to get to some Texas basketball talk real

(00:02):
quick before ending up ending this hour. Texas back in
action tomorrow night against New Orleans University of New Orleans
after their win on Sunday beating Arkansas Pine Bluff one
hundred and twenty one to fifty seven. You know, Pine
and Bluff. You know, not to take anything away from

(00:23):
Texas m Kin Palm's rankings, which is not the end
all be all.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
You know, ranks all three hundred.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
And sixty four teams Pine Bluff three sixty two, And
there was some moments in that game where it was
pretty tough. But the good news is Texas and out
looked bad against them and looked really good, especially with
jew and Larry, the transfer point guard from Indiana State
who played at Frisco lone star and more to come
on that. But in the game against Arkansas Pine Bluff

(00:51):
a career high thirteen assists just two turnovers. And asked
his question earlier in the show, who was the last
Texas point guard record thirteen assists in the game in
April fifth, two thousand and three, did you figure it out?
One more hand gave him the final four against Syracuse.
That's right, TJ.

Speaker 2 (01:10):
Ford.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Last time Texas has had a player with thirteen assists
in the game twenty one years ago or almost almost
twenty one years ago TJ.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Ford.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
Larry also had a double double eleven points, thirteen assists,
first time this year, a second career game or he's
been He's recorded a double double. He's reached uple figures
and assists for the first time this season, second time
in his career, fourth time this year he's been in
double digits in points, a team best plus minus total

(01:40):
of plus fifty six and twenty five minutes on Sunday.
Jordan Pope also with seventeen points. Those two guys are
going to be huge for Texas down the stretch. Tremon
Mark as well. You know what you're going to get
out of Trey Johnson every single game. Arthur Klumba same
thing those two guys, Steady Eddie. But out of the
guards outside of Trey Johnson, who's gonna be the next

(02:03):
kind of step up will be Jordan Pope, Julian Larry.
What can what can Tremont Mark do is he gets
more and more comfortable with this offense. But look the
last two games, last two games, I know they're against
non conference opponents to Mexigo State in Arkansas Pine and Bluff.
But what I've seen since the lost to Ukon, I've
been impressed with. Okay, mentioned we'ren get to some sound

(02:23):
from Julian Larry. This is from yesterday media availability again
coming off that thirteen assists game. The first question he
was asked was about is he seeing the floor differently
after recording those thirteen assists on Sunday.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
I would definitely say so.

Speaker 3 (02:38):
I would say we're starting to bond more in jail
More and my team I used to starting to know
where to be at, and I'm starting to know where
they're gonna be at as we continue to, you know,
battle throughout these games.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Thirteen assists already mentioned that career high for Julian Larry,
and you know he's working with some great off ball
guys who could move Kaluoma Johnson and Kennell Weaver. Kennel Weaver,
who's been I think so far, he's been a lot
of Texas Fans' favorite players, favorite player of the last
two years because of his ability not only hustle the

(03:10):
acrobatic duns, but also his ability to cut. You know,
he's great without the ball in his hands. It's what
truly makes him special and Larry has been able to
take advantage of that so far.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
What about being mentioned next to TJ. Ford. Oh, it's
definitely great.

Speaker 3 (03:26):
I've seen TJ a few times, talk to him a
few times, and you know, watch a little bit of
his game. So it's definitely great being mentioned, having my
name mentioned with his name, with these assists and being
a point guard.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
So before the availability he Scott McConaughey, the Texas Long
Orange basketball sports information director, mentioned it to the media that, Hey,
the first time since TJ. Ford and Drew and Larry,
you know, kind of nodding his head like, oh, okay, dang,
I didn't know that. I didn't know that at all.
So cool to see him get the right praise for that.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
TJ.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Ford, you know, he's always sitting courtside or somewhere at
a Texas basketball game. Now, Larry, of course, off the
bench six man roll has not started. It's been mostly
Jordan Pope as the starting point guard for Texas this season,
and Larry was asked, is it a little bit tougher
for him to be able to find his rhythm off
the bench After transferring to Texas from Indiana State, where

(04:20):
he was the starter.

Speaker 3 (04:21):
I mean it's a little bit different, but at the
end of the day, like basketball is still basketball. So
I mean just my hike kind of helped me out,
Like when I come in and just be able to
you know, bring energy and you know, being in my position,
you know, getting out to other guys. You know, that
just helps me get in the rhythm, getting the flow quicker.
You know, once I you know, hit ahead and somebody

(04:43):
gets the layup, it's like all right, Like we can
get going now, Like I'm starting to pick up holes,
see holes in that defense, and then we can just
get that rhythm going.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
And also about you know, establishing chemistry as being the
new point guard and playing with new players.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
I would say, you know, I've always always been a
point guard, you know, so, but I would just say
just throughout these games, you're gonna just continue to see
more not just for myself, but from my team, just
those high assist games, because that's just a big emphasis
we put just really kicking it to each other, kicking
it ahead, and you know, great ball movement.

Speaker 1 (05:19):
So with that ball movement, thirteen assists on Saturday against
Arkansas Pine Bluff.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
What does he attribute that too. I would say that's
a testament to our pace. So I mean just the
pace of our offense. It can get people in rotations.
And once I have somebody in a rotation, I'm really
good at getting downhill super fast. So once I get
downhill and then I'll draw, Like once we get that
advantage and then I draw too, then that's when you

(05:45):
see those guys coming open. So that's when you see
spray out threes libs or kick one more. So I
would just say it's off of our pace to start it,
and then just once we get those advantages and I
draw two to the ball and get off of it.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
As where those assists are coming from.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
I think so far this Texas team, they are better
when they're pushing the ball with tempo in transition. You
got guys who can fly down the floor like Trey Johnson,
like Kenda Weaver, and then you have guys like Juw
and Larry who be able to see the floor. Texas
basketball is better when they're able to play at a
quicker pace with more transition buckets. And I think that's

(06:25):
something that Rtie in the staff are going to try
and push as we get closer and closer to conference play.
More from Julian Larry to come in the next hour.
Here we're gonna wrap up the second hour. Texas back
in action against New Orleans tomorrow night, seven o'clock tip
off time, six thirty airtime.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
As we continue here on
