Speaker 1 (00:00):
The Elvis version of Blue Christmas Is. That's probably my
favorite Elvis Christmas song, either that or Santa Bring My
Baby Back to Me which is which is a good
one too. But that's a classic cent To Bowl update
for you. They are late in the third quarter. The
famous Idaho Potato Bowl in northern Illinois and Fresno State
(00:20):
are tied at thirteen in that one earlier today utsa
one and one big one handling forty four to fifteen
of our Coastal Carolina on Coastal's home field in the
Myrtle Beach Bowl. So they did win that contest. On
our text line where you can always text the program
for absolutely free. All you have to do is text
(00:41):
the word Texas followed by your question or comment to
eight one five three zero. Standard messaging and data rates
may apply. We had a couple of a couple of
well CBS says, don't forget the Christmas classic, dominate the
Italiate Christmas Donkey. I've heard that probably won't make the
(01:03):
playlist this afternoon. I'm just saying it probably won't. And
then Cebee also said, when I was talking about the
Peach Bowl and Texas playing Arizona State, he said, you know,
Chris Jesse should be an honorary captain for the Peach Bowl.
Let me tell you something, and what he's referring to
is the only other time that Texas has played Arizona
(01:25):
State and football, and it was the Holiday Bowl in
two thousand and seven and the Longhorns had an up
and down season that they still ended up winning ten games.
But our friend Brod Babers said that he always remember
Mac Brown saying that was a team he did not like.
He didn't like to collect a personality and approach to
(01:45):
those guys, and they had to kind of get their
act together. And of course they lost a game over
in the College Station to Texas A and M, which
I think proved to be Dennis Franchooni's final game at
A and M.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
And it just it had a weird vibe to it
that you.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Remember they almost lost early in the year the Central
Florida they played UCF at the christening the opening of
the brand new stadium, and they had a game interruption
for a mid afternoon thunderstorm, and when they came back,
it was like a sauna and the guys barely survived
and won like thirty five thirty two, so it wasn't
but if it ended on a good note, they beat
Arizona State and beat them handily in the bowl game,
(02:24):
and I think it was like fifty two to thirty
five or something like that. But anyway, they beat him
in the bowl game fifty two twenty seven, I believe.
And there was a moment in the first half where
there was a ball that bounced over to the sidelines,
a live ball, like a wolf of a fumble, and
(02:46):
you see the guy who was Mac Brown's step son,
Sally's son, Chris Jesse, who was over there on the sidelines,
and he reached out almost as if he was going
to touch the football and it missed him.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
The other guy and this is the one that really it.
Speaker 1 (03:04):
Was just kind of a reactive thing that had happened
for Chris, young guy at the time.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
But Cleve Bryant was the operations.
Speaker 1 (03:11):
Guy and he did the same thing and it went
over there and it was kind of swiping at the ball.
Speaker 2 (03:16):
It was. It was a bizarre night in in UH.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
What I said was, and I've said this before, is
one of the worst stadiums ever to UH to have football,
and let alone a bowl game in Uh was the
old Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego, and it was just
kind of dank and cold and messy and you know,
and and not real good. So uh, but Texas did
win that Bowl game, so we'll see, you know, we'll
(03:41):
see how it goes from there.
Speaker 2 (03:42):
All right.
Speaker 1 (03:43):
NFL notes here before we get to the top of
the hour, Not only did the Cowboys win last night, uh,
and of course they're they're now just one game above
five or they could actually wind up with a winning
record in nine and eight. Now that obviously me nothing
in terms of trying to make the playoffs and coming
up short and all that other kind of stuff, but
(04:05):
you should probably be fore warned and forearmed on this.
If the Cowboys win their last two, Now, the next
week's gonna be difficult, this coming when they play the Eagles,
but then they play the Commanders, but the last game
of the year, and they play them at home. If
if if they wind up winning those two games, they're
(04:28):
gonna be nine and eight.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
They're gonna finish nine and eight.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
I'm just saying, don't be surprised if Jerry Jones brings
Mike McCarthy back as head coach. It seemed to be
a foregone conclusion when they were losing that he was
not going to do that. But now, well I just
have to wait and see. Off of that, NFC number
one seed is really thrown into a hectic situation. What
(04:57):
with the Eagles loss. You have Lions and the Vikings
are coming on like gangbusters right now. I mean they
really are coming on strong. And the Packers won again
as well, so we know some really tough wildcard teams
are gonna come out of there. In the NFC West,
the Rams can win the division if they win one
of their last two games. What was Seattle's loss yesterday,
(05:19):
so we'll follow that. And then in the AFC, we
know that the Steelers and the Ravens are still fighting
for the top spot. In the NFC North Kansas City
is the best record overall, and the wildcard race still
continues right now, although there's almost some separation blow with
the Chargers and Broncos, you know, ahead of teams that
(05:43):
still have a mathematical shot like the Colts and the Dolphins.
All right, we have one more hour of the show
to go. We're gonna hear more from Steve Sarkisian and
also from Kenny Dillingham and in case you missed that
highlight mon Tige that Cameron Parker flew ridden in all
managed to put together for us. That's coming up next
(06:03):
here on Sports Radio AUM thirteen Under the Zone.
