Speaker 2 (00:25):
Cameron Parker filling in for Craig Way, who's out in Atlanta, Georgia,
preparing for Texas in Arizona State. Today is media Day
at the College Football Hall of Fame, where Texas and
Arizona State players and coaches able to visit with the media.
That includes Craig Way, who's out on assignment. Maybe you
might say you got to sit down with Texas offensive
(00:47):
back Thorpe Winner and Flugerville native Jeanne Barrin earlier this afternoon.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
So has anybody.
Speaker 3 (00:58):
Brought up the subject that there's a finite number of
games left for you, whether it's hopefully three? But does
that cross your mind thinking, Hey, I want to make
the most of every practice.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
You try to do that anyway with your effort.
Speaker 3 (01:12):
But do you, uh, you know, enjoy the moment even
on the practice field as well as in the games.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
I mean most definitely. That's that's been one of another
one of the goals, just to practice you know, better
practice habits, and UH coach PK and Coach Joseph them
just pushing me just just go out there and have
that effort and that mentality. And then even coach Planks
and coach Shark just pushing me on on a special
team standpoint. So I think that that's always been the mindset.
(01:38):
But you know, when you know, when you know things
that limited. You know, for one, we're not promised anything.
We're not promised today. I'm not promised the next second,
the next hour, the next day. But ultimately you just
got to enjoy, you know, enjoy the process, and then
you know, don't be afraid of anything, you know, just
just put your trust in God and then just go
out there and have fun. So I think just going
out there and having fun. Shoot today when I go
(02:01):
to practice, you know, going out there having fun. I
mean during these UH during these interviews and things like that.
I think that's how you get the best experience and
the most experience out of.
Speaker 1 (02:08):
Everything when it comes to UH. There was a state.
Speaker 3 (02:12):
One thing that's continually said about them is that they
are non complicated, that that they it's nothing really weird
about what they do. They come right at you, they
go right there, justcatabe of the running back in the
way they do what strikes you most about them.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
I mean, uh, I mean that too.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
But you know, they had two three weeks to prepare
for you know, both teams either teams who have won,
so just a preparation at the time they had in
a period of time. You know, they most definitely installed
some things, you know, you know.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
A lot of things.
Speaker 4 (02:43):
You know, this is a big game on a big stage,
so they're gonna put their their best foot forward. Uh
you know, I don't know what they will present until
until the time comes, but I mean they have they
have a great team, an amazing coach, so the opportunity
is gonna be good.
Speaker 3 (02:56):
Has it also been kind of like a mini buy
for you guys, being able to have a little bit
of time after the Clemson game and then the Christmas
break tucked in there.
Speaker 4 (03:03):
Most definitely, you know, we got enough time to get
our bodies back and things like that. You know, you see,
we got players back, so I know that's gonna help
contribute to our success. But I think it's been a
good amount of time for us as a collective group.
You know, just to prepare a meeting standpoint and the
body standpoint and practice.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
Okay, now about Quinn you weers.
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Of course, we played some sound from him earlier today
addressing the Sam Levitt comments, and we have some other
stuff too. But here's a little bit from Quinn you
weers at today's media availability in Atlanta, Georgia.
Speaker 1 (03:34):
Your normandy of this game. Here you are, you're one
last week and now here you are in the final.
Speaker 3 (03:38):
Teams the peach points. What's that mean to you?
Speaker 5 (03:41):
Yeah, you know, it means a lot to just still
be playing football at the end of the day. You know,
obviously we're blessed with the opportunity to still be playing
and you know, couldn't be more excited.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
For all these guys and and the rest of the seasons.
How about taking on the Ashue defense now they's in
the state.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
What are you seeings so far and film?
Speaker 5 (03:58):
Yeah, you know, I don't think they do a whole
which means that they're really good at what they do,
and you know, they know their assignments really well, especially
in the upenfield first and second down.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
You know, obviously third downs a little different. But it's
gonna be a fun matchup for sure? Where you were?
You all, we're here, it's the championship game here in Atlanta.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Back in the pageball, we're here in Atlanta, hopefully be
back here in Atlanta for the Natives.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
Poble kind of liked you all trying to make the
second resident. Yeah that's right, Yeah for sure.
Speaker 5 (04:26):
I mean, like you said, we're here for sec and
we just it feels like we just always were.
Speaker 1 (04:32):
We're gonna keep trying.
Speaker 5 (04:33):
To get back here.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
So yeah, for sure. Quinn, how unique has it been
depred for new format?
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Right? Played at home for your first college football playoff experience,
now on the road again for a quarterfinals?
Speaker 1 (04:45):
What's that week of preparation been like, free Flos, You know,
it's been good. Excited to be in Atlanta for sure.
Speaker 5 (04:52):
Again, just ecided for the opportunity to get to play,
you know, a good team like Arizona State and well
see what happens.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
You know, we heard a lot of things about how
the different things were with the playoff time frame and
all that sort of stuff. We kind of come off
a mini bi a little bit. Did it help in
terms of grass preparation all of that kind of stuff
In the mental it.
Speaker 5 (05:11):
Does but yeah, you know, it's definitely nice to get
some time off, not only for for your mental side,
but you know for your body as well. It's cool
you said it like I say, it's like a mini
buite for sure.
Speaker 1 (05:20):
It definitely nice.
Speaker 3 (05:21):
How long did you get for Christmas with the family?
Speaker 5 (05:24):
We got two days, so Christmas Eve and then Christmas
Day we were back to twenty six So it was nice.
Speaker 3 (05:31):
That's nice to going on thing like a week, right, Yeah, yeah,
it was really nice with the big.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
You all first year, and yes, to see come from
the Big twelve. You all a happy success that you're
adding your first year. What's some of the things that
you've learned transitioning from.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
The Big twelve to the some of the some of
the different things that you've learned.
Speaker 1 (05:47):
Yeah, well, I mean.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
I think away games.
Speaker 5 (05:51):
Are a little little a little harder.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
For sure, but.
Speaker 5 (05:55):
I think we did a really good job of just
focusing on us and not all this stuffs going around
us and really just focus on the opinions inside of
our four walls and just staying a Namer with us
and overall that's that's what helped us, you know, win
all these games.
Speaker 1 (06:10):
When you guys come in as two touchdown favorites in
this game.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Lust on cuff a little bit there, So sorry about that,
and sorry about the Texas fight song playing in the background.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I don't know what's going on at media day.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
I kind of asked Craig about that, but enjoy that
sound from from quinn Ewers as Texas prepares for Arizona
State and taking the high road. When asked about sam
Levitt's comments, does not mean that quinn Ewers is not
a confident quarterback. Sam Levitt, Kim Skataboo like to maybe
express their confidence, you know, through their words. But I
(06:42):
think some players like to express their confidence by the
way they play football, the way they carry themselves on
the football field. And I can't speak to Quinn's level
of confidence because I don't know what it is at
but I think at times we do see it on
the football field and the way he does celebrate with
his players. I do think he's a confident quarterback. I
think he played well against Clemson. I think he played
well against Georgia, and I think Texas needs them to
(07:02):
play well against Arizona State. And they do have a
pass defense that I think is very susceptible to getting
thrown on. Looking at their EPA in terms of defensive
success rate on dropbacks one hundred and first in the country,
it tells him that Texas will be able to move
the ball against the Arizona State secondary and I think
(07:23):
they'll be able to do it against the rush as well.
They're fortieth in terms of EPA and defensive success rate
depending rush plays. That's not that great. That's outside the
top twenty five. They's seventieth overall, the number that I
think Texas can take advantage of, and we're going to
see this on Wednesday. I do not think Texas will
have any trouble with the Arizona State defensive line or
(07:45):
the offensive line. You win football games in the trenches.
We saw it against Clemson, and I fully expect to
see it on Wednesday against Arizona State. More than come
here on The Craigway Show, going to wrap up our
number two and hear more from Kyle Flood, from Steve Starkesian,
Michael Taff, Anthony Hill, and more as The Craigway Show
continues on this Monday afternoon
