(02:18):
Hold the Horns down twenty two as I threak the
hearts of the Aggies up. Texas A and M. Final
score Texas seventy, Texas A and M sixty nine from
the pavilion and I'm for Mississippi. It's the Texas Long
Horns against the o miss Rebels. In SEC women's college basketball.

(02:40):
Here's Baddy into the front court, center of the four,
to the right side of Jordan Lee, right side, driving baseline, spins, turns,
fade away jumper. Good for Jordan Lee. Booker work in
the dribble, top of the arm against Chinou, try to
drive on her, goes into the paint on her, puts
it up, got the bucket in one great body control
by Matt Booker and drew the third foul as well

(03:03):
on Sera Chinu. Here's Booker top of the art for Texas,
lobs it to Kayla Oldacre right elbow, looking into the paint.
Old eighty Acre still holding it, now drops it ag
into Booker. Madison behind an Old Acre. Stree knocks down
a sixteen footer. Booker hits it in the logwarch Are
back in front thirty seven thirty six six something with
shot clock for Texas in down into Old Acre, sends

(03:25):
it to win in time of four seconds. Three. Harmon
isn't looking at it. Down to two down the one
winning China. It's the turnaround jumper. Rory knew exactly what
she was doing right. Yeah, we're gonna go with it
into the front court, repressed it, lops it in, Jones
puts it up, got the bucket in one very fini
controlled bant it off the glass for two and got

(03:45):
the foul Madison Scott her third. Rory, trying to drive
right now along the baseline, turns back, bounce past Chones,
Taylor against who Walla turn shoots. It's still worse. Jones
in the paint gets the jumper. Taylor with twenty four.
The game is tied at fifty eight hunder two minutes
to go. So Harmon ready to inbound, looking, swings to

(04:06):
the Jordan Lee in the right corner. Lee's Harmon fifteen

the right side, now out to Booker. Eight on the
shot like Madison drives, pulls up fifteen foot of god,
fucker hits it. The log Arts are back in front.
Twenty four seconds to go, sixty to fifty eight long
horns in bounds to the left side of Madison. Scott

(04:29):

to drive inside down on the baseline, fade away, Jumper
short follow up on the floor. Lee with the rebound
for Texas and they Fouler with two point six to go.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
So here we go.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Scott the inbound right in front of the ole miss
Bench looking still looking, lomps it high in the air.
It's picked off by Booker and then we'll do it Madison.
Booker comes home to Mississippi, knocks down a key, Jumper
comes up with a steel and the law warn get
out of Oxford with their twentieth win of the season

(05:04):
and their sixth sec win of the year. Well two
thrilling finishes for the Texas men's and women's basketball teams.
They both come out of it with wins, one at home,
one on the road, and now will flip flop those
designations this week. Good afternoon, everybody, Welcome to a Monday.

(05:25):
Welcome to the program here. I'm thirteen under the Zone.
My name is Craig Way. Glad to have you with
us this afternoon. Pleased as always with us to include
Cameron D. Parker, the producer the Eon. The birth certificate
stands for Dallas, which made some news, made it official
over the weekend, and the Cowboys did hire and promote

(05:50):
Brian Schottenheimer to head coach, to which the long time,
long suffering, disenfranchised, angry Cowboy, he's fan, Cameron Parker says me,
that's your cue.

Speaker 3 (06:07):
I'm still focused on Texas being four and O why
we got to top of the Cowboys. We have to
know this week in basketball two point comeback.

Speaker 1 (06:16):
We're gonna get to all of that. Don't worry, but
I just you know, just the initial response, because we're
gonna we're gonna play you diligently spent time editing uh
the news conference with Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones. Stephen was
there right we didn't hear from him much.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
I think he whenever Jerry gave him permission.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Okay talk, you know, yeah, Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones and
Brian Schottenheimer. We're gonna hear that coming up, so we'll
so we'll have that. But as Cameron pointed out, two
tremendous ball games uh during the week for the long
warn men and for and really truly Cam it was

(06:56):
a five and oh week because the Texas women played
three games in six days. It was a week ago today.
They wanted Newark over then a thran Maryland. They follow
that up with a home win on Thursday night over
seventeenth ranking Tennessee, and then yesterday. It's a really good
Ole Miss team that had been ranked most of the season,
the most recently dropped out of the pole, but still
a tough team and they were in a grind the

(07:19):
whole way. They never led by more than three points,
and you know, entrailed by as many as eight with
six minutes to go in the game, but fought back.
Madison Booker and her homecoming hit a huge shot as
you heard there in the highlight montage, and then the
intercepted the inbounds pass to close out the game. The

(07:41):
long Horns also got a monster effort out of Taylor
Jones with twenty four points and eight rebounds. He played really,
really well. And then there's the Long Worn Men. After
the win on Tuesday and a home over a then
twenty second rate Missouri team, they come back and they
played Texas A and M, a team that had eating
the Long Horns by twenty in College Station three weeks prior,

(08:03):
and the Aggis looked like they picked up right where
they left off. They were red hot shooting from outside
in the first half, built an eighteen point a half
time lead. The lead grew to as much as twenty
two points for the Aggies. Was seventeen minutes to go
win the game. Loghorns went on a big push largely
carried by Trey Johnson, cut it down to six and

(08:28):
had a chance at fifty six to fifty and had
a chance to get it below that couldn't do it.
A and M quickly responded with a NATO run, went
back up by fourteen with just over six minutes remaining
in the ballgame. But again Loghorns kind of dug in
Trey Johnson with some big shots. They got some big
rebounds and some stops down the stretch ed there was

(08:51):
a crucial technical foul called against Texas A and M.
Somebody asked me if I'd ever seen that kind of
technical six players on the floor at one time. I have,
but it's been a long time ago, long time ago,

(09:13):
and I've seen it happen once or twice in high
school basketball, and it usually happened the way that it
happened to Texas A and M kind of liked with hockey,
almost like a line change thing with too many men
on the ice, and they were coming out of a
timeout and just left one player too many on the floor.
I don't know if Wade Taylor was supposed to check
out or if he noticed there were six on four

(09:34):
and he tried to get off the floor, but it
had already been inbounded, and so they were called for
that tray. Johnson hits two technical free throws that cut
it back from twelve to ten, and then he hit
a three to cut it to seven. That turred, and
then they just kept chipping away and Johnson hit a
three to get it down to a one point game,

(09:55):
and then brought the ball down the floor. Julian Larry
with a great block of a way Taylor shot, they
got the basketball back. Rodney Terry used his final timeouts
set up the play, as artist said afterwards, and we'll
hear him talk about it here in a few minutes
as well. It was actually designed to go to Trey Johnson,
but Trey recognize him. The double team that was coming

(10:16):
to him was able to get it out onto the
wing and Tremon Mark had that whole left side of
the basket to drive down, and of course he is
a left team was able to use the glass to
lay it high out the glass in for the bucket
to put Texas up seventy sixty nine. There was three
point seven A go Texas. A and M chose not
to use one of its two remaining timeouts. They sped
the ball down the floor, but still Waye Taylor was

(10:39):
forced to launch about a forty footer and it was closed.
It hit the rim on the backboard, he did not
go in, and Texas got to win a huge win,
back to back wins of A ranked opponents. Now they
have to go on the road and play speaking of
angry and angry on miss team that's dropped three in
a row, so they've got to go to Oxford, Mississippi.
That will be on Wednesday night. So those are some

(10:59):
of the things we're talking about. Obviously, we're going to
get in to talk about your two teams left for
the Super Bowl. Whether you like it or not. You
got Eagles chiefs, and I know a lot of the
country is not happy with that, the people who have
that success, weariness of Kansas City. But Cowboy fans could

(11:21):
never bring themselves to root for the Eagles. Have I
right about that?

Speaker 2 (11:25):
Cam?

Speaker 1 (11:25):
You could?

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Yeah, there's no chance.

Speaker 1 (11:27):
Yeah, that's what I thought. What if Washington had won
and played Kansas City? What would you have done that?

Speaker 3 (11:32):
You know, I Casey would would have would win that game, obviously,
unless but who would you have rooted for? I would
if Washington won, I would have been okay with it,
just for Dan Quinn, Yeah, and Sam cos Me. But
a lot of the other ex Cowboy, ex Cowboy players
really stick it to Jerry Eagles, no way, Like I
don't care Kellen Moore's on the staff, I don't, Sorry,
Maro Jimo, There's just no way I can root for

(11:55):
that disgusting city and that disgusting fan base.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
Well that's how I was last year with the forty
nine ers playing the Chiefs. It's not I'm not anti Chiefs,
and I'm not a big fan either. They're a different
NFL team than the one I root for. But there's
no way I could bring myself to route for the
Rams arch rivals. There's just no way. I would never
be able to do that. So I understand that, all right.

(12:21):
So we're gonna recap those games. We'll look at those.
We're gonna hear from Rodney Terry, We're gonna hear from
Trey Johnson. Vick Schaeffer, the Texas women's head coach, is
gonna join us live in the four o'clock hour, so
we'll visit with Vic to talk about his team's grind
of winning three games in six days. And they got
a much deserved day off today, the players did before

(12:44):
they begin their preparations for Thursday night's matchup with Missouri.
So we'll get to all that and more. Obviously, we
have the text line if you want to Texas, you
text the word Texas follow by your question or comment
to eight one five three zero. That's the word Texas,
follow by your usher comment to eight one five three zero.
Standard messaging and data rates may apply. We do have

(13:05):
inconceivable this afternoon as well. We'll get to all that
and more when we continue here on AM thirteen Under
the Zone.

Speaker 4 (13:18):
It's the Craig Way Show with the voice of the
Texas Longhorns and Hall of Fame broadcaster Craig Way.

Speaker 1 (13:31):
We're pleased to be with you on a Monday. A
Monday that shows the temperature to be fifty one degrees,
but it says feels like forty four outside. He does
feel kind of dank and chilly with some windy conditions.
Going to be like that all the way till like Friday.

(13:52):
In fact, Wednesday and Thursday, good chance we're going to
have rain in this area. So we are at the
end of jan Anyuary.

Speaker 3 (14:00):
So one more month of cold weather and then you know,
by March it'll you know, it'll be cold in the morning,
but you know it'll progressively get warmer throughout the day
and next thing you know, it would be one hundred
and five and we'll be complaining about that, so.

Speaker 1 (14:15):
You know it would be worse. I listen, I don't
know how you feel about it, but you know you
and I are vote from the state of North Carolina,
and at this time of year in North Carolina, what
we usually get, certainly when I was growing up, what
we always seem to be getting was what we've got here,
except more rain, even just like really cold, almost freezing drizzle.

(14:41):
I hated that. I hated that, And so when I
first came out to Texas, I was fine with one
hundred degrees.

Speaker 2 (14:50):
Yeah, I didn't.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
I just didn't want I wanted no rain for several years.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Now, Eventually, especially as I became a homeowner, you learn
to appreciate three.

Speaker 3 (15:05):
But it was like that going up.

Speaker 1 (15:07):
I just I just hated those conditions all the time.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
What I disliked the most about the North Carolina summers
was just how humid it was. But it's been humid
here yep, the last couple of summers too, so I
haven't gotten too far away from it. I'm okay with
dry heat. I don't know about you, Craig. Dry heat,
I'm fine with, yep, but it's too humidity that I
just I can't. That's why I can't live in Florida,
because I've gone and visited my mother in August, and Florida, man,

(15:34):
you are, It's like you just came out of the ocean.
You're just dripping sweat and it's eight o'clock in the morning.
You ever hang out in Houston in July and August,
that's not a lot of funny. It's just there in
deep East Texas, he can get really, really humid. Yeah,
I'm right, yeah, I'm right there with the North Carolina
would get like that in the summer. My dad used
to say how he hated to just walk outside and

(15:55):
it would start beating up on him immediately.

Speaker 1 (15:57):
Sweat, your shirt gets steaky. Yeah, so it gets hot. Now,
hot is hot, and the drier heat is better. But
you know, you go out to Las Vegas, it's one
hundred and eleven, it's you know, it's hot. It's like
an oven. It's pretty hot out there. But anyway, it
could be more certainly than where we are right now,

(16:19):
and we'll take what we have. It was like this,
by the way, in Oxford, Mississippi, yesterday too. It was
kind of dank and dreary in the forties, and I
had to drive a rental car back to Tupolo because
that's where the team charter was flying home. I flew
into Memphis late Saturday night, after of course the Texas
Texas A and M game, and we got off the

(16:40):
air and my wife Linda met up with me and
we ran down and grabbed it. Since it was near
the airport, I had to drop off my vehicle at
the charter terminal and then we went by and since
it was near the airport, we went by Dan's and
grabbed a burger and then went back over to the
airport and she dropped me off and I flew up
and I barely made the connecting flight. I say barely.

(17:05):
The flight that was landing in the DFW all of
a sudden pulled up and the pilot comes on say, sorry, folks,
we just had to execute what we call a go around.
We were air traffic thought we were a little too
close to the plane that was in front of us landing,

(17:27):
so we're a go around. Beautiful to go back around,
and then we land. So now it's gonna be a
really tight connection. And there's a dude behind me that's
making a very tight connection as well, to the extent
that he starts almost shouting at the top of his
lungs when we're in the out. If you don't have
a connection, can you sit down like can you let

(17:48):
us buy please? Can you let us buy please? Nobody
paid any attention to him. Of course, you know, he
goes all you people have connections.

Speaker 2 (17:56):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (17:58):
It's like, dude, relax, Okay, you're either gonna make it
or you not. Yep, and I start racing to the
gate at the cadecting fight fortunately was in the same terminal,
and then mine got pushed back. Actually they were waiting
on a crew arrival. So I made it all that
land in Memphis late Saturday night for people always want
asking me about my travelog and picked up a rental

(18:19):
car and drove it down to Oxford's, about an hour
and fifteen minutes south of there. Got there late late
Saturday night, turn around, got up real early Sunday morning
to go with the team over the shoot around. They
had an eight am shoot around seven forty five am
departure for shoot around to set up the equipment and
stuff and back though telling them to go over and
have the game. The game was. It was quite the game,
and Texas really got pushed, but they won and they're

(18:42):
now twenty and two, so they've done a good job.
So of the men in trying to turn their fortunes
around back to back wins of a ranked upon. Somebody
on the text line said, I didn't have any expectations
of zaric on Yema at the beginning of the season,
but he has been a great surprise of late. His
development is very renoticeable. It's a good take he has.

(19:02):
He's worked very hard on his game. The coaches worked
very hard on him, especially when they are shorthanded. Remember
the Loghorns won that game Saturday against the number one
rebounding team in the nation, Texas A and M, and
the log Horns did it without their number one rebounder
who was not available Arthur Kaluma at Swornee could not

(19:26):
play the second leading scorer and leading rebounder, and for
them to be able to pull that off was pretty impressive.
They got clutch shots from Trey Johnson clearly, the big
clear out and the drive to the bucket from Tremont Mark.
So all of that was part of the conversation that
Eddie Orn and I had after the game. The long
Horns head coach Rodney Terry. Everybody just keeps saying wow

(19:47):
because of the spirit, the drive, the hard work and
the hustle and the guts and great and determination your
basketball team showed and pulling off his comeback to the.

Speaker 5 (19:55):
Really part of my guys in terms of you know
what some guys shoting some guys at halftime, you know,
and you know that was true Texas fight right there,
Texas basketball, the grit you have to play with, how
tough you have to play, and get my guys a
lot of credit for just coming out and watching the
game for twenty minutes in the second half and you
know at the at the end of the day wanted
it a little bit more than they did it. Then

(20:16):
in terms of doing what you have to do and
win the game, and again shout out to our students.
Our students will us to another really good win. And
this crowd, this energy on one nation was great today.
We needed every bit of them.

Speaker 1 (20:28):
Let me get your thoughts on a couple of sequences
in the game. First, when you're down twenty two at
fifty one, twenty nine, seventeen minutes to go, what you
said to them there, and then after you'd cut it
to six, they push you back out to fourteen. At
sixty four fifty with six and a half minutes to go,
you say twenty two twenty two. It was fifty one
to twenty nine with seventeen minutes to go. I'll be

(20:48):
with eighteen twenty two. Man, I'll tell you what. You
know what I just told our guys.

Speaker 5 (20:52):
You know, hey, you know what you know We're not
gonna do now twenty one or eighteen point play work
this game possession by possession.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
We've got to put some stops together.

Speaker 5 (21:03):
We know these guys, they know us.

Speaker 1 (21:06):
We've got to come down and we got to execute
this caut on the board right now.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
We do that, we'll put ourselves in position to get.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
This done today. Well, tell us exactly what was talked
about in the time out setting up the play for
Tremont to get the drive.

Speaker 2 (21:18):
To the bucket.

Speaker 5 (21:18):
Well, we wanted the last shot. We didn't want to
give them the last shot. We wanted to play to win.
And you know, Trey had been a guy that we
rolled down the stretch there quite a bit. We were
gonna go to the open set, We're gonna go in
about eight seconds.

Speaker 3 (21:32):
We were gonna try to go and make a play.

Speaker 5 (21:34):
And you know, if Trey couldn't make a play, he
had to trust the teammate, and I thought he did
We went a little earlier than we wanted to go
and everything, but at the end of the day, we
ended up with the matchup that was pretty good. Was
wade on on on t bark into the baskets.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
Pretty good. We'll take that match up all day. And
important for you guys not to file an A and
M in boundary with three point seven quickly without calling
the time out.

Speaker 5 (21:56):
No, absolutely way he gets the ball. We got to
shadow up the floor, make it difficult shot for him.
He was the guy that was making shot for those
guys down the stretch.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
What the hell of am win? Rightny?

Speaker 3 (22:08):
Talk about two things. I know it's the last ten
seconds of your possessions.

Speaker 6 (22:11):
I thought your defense stayed in front of the ball
and the main thing you didn't found put them on
the line.

Speaker 3 (22:16):
They did not go to the line today.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
That was huge.

Speaker 5 (22:18):
Wort's the team we were trying to do. We know
they try to get the ball up on the glass.
We had to try to protect the glass. You know,
they got a couple of second chance opportunities. Stick backs
just needed to block out and keep them off the glass.
That was a big part of their offense.

Speaker 1 (22:31):
I asked Trey, what the feeling is like when he
knows his teammates want to get him the ball, the
responsibility that falls on a freshman's shoulders. But he said,
just trying to help my team. Well, he's not a
freshman anymore.

Speaker 5 (22:43):
We played twenty games now, we played two exhibition games.
He's twenty two games in now, he's the minutes he's
played in loss.

Speaker 3 (22:50):
He's a sophomore right now already.

Speaker 1 (22:52):
So you know, he's grown up.

Speaker 5 (22:54):
What a bit, you know, obviously gaining experience every day,
but he's gained a lot of experience at a point
right now to where this team is trusting to make
big plays in big shots, force.

Speaker 1 (23:03):
Back to back wins of a ranked opponents. You're gonna
face another one when you go on the road. But
it's nice to build on this, isn't it.

Speaker 5 (23:07):
Oh yeah, this game for one night, you know, on
it's own to the next great challenge in this league
is the best league in college basketball. Now we've got
to go on to role play a well coach team.
Coach beers teams on well coached. They gonna they're gonna
know everything that we do. We're gonna try to know
everything that they do, and good defensive team, and they've
got older players, They've got a good team.

Speaker 3 (23:26):
So it's gonna be a big challenge for us over.

Speaker 1 (23:28):
Ox next week. Yeah, no question about and that it's
coming up on Wednesday night. They're in Oxford, Mississippi, And
we'll have moren that obviously in the coming days, and
Cam and I'll be headed over there tomorrow with the
long run men for the game on Wednesday. All right,
Later on we're gonna hear from Trey Johnson about this
Texas victory. We'll take a closer look at the Texas

(23:51):
women's when we have a visit coming up with Vick
Schaeffer and the four o'clock. I will do that plenty
to talk about with the NFL and the super Bowl
and the Cowboys as well. But Inconceivable is up next
here on EM thirteen under the Zone Craig Way joined
by the producer Cameron Parker. What is what beverages that
you're consuming? I'm just a energy drink? What is that?

Speaker 5 (24:13):
Is that?

Speaker 1 (24:14):
So that's an energy drink?

Speaker 3 (24:15):
Yeah, yeah, I think it's a little bit better than
drinking Red Bull, But I don't know probably, you know,
I'm sure there's gonna be an inconceivable story about how
I'm gonna die ten years younger, ten years younger.

Speaker 1 (24:29):
I haven't noticed anything like that, all right, Yeah, Okay,
the year is young. So we're underway. An hour number
two coming up in a few minutes, we're gonna hear.
You're gonna hear from Jerry. You're gonna hear from Jerry Jones.
You're gonna hear a little bit anyway, did a little
bit from Stephen Jones and from Brian Schottenheimer, the cowboys

(24:52):
new head coach. Will bring those comments to you from
a press conference earlier so today, so you'll you'll hear
some of that. Also, later this hour, you'll hear from
Trey Johnson, Longhorn's freshman guard who scored career high thirty
in the win over Texas A and M. That's still
to come this hour. Next hour. Vic Schaffer joins us
live as the Longhorn's head coach will join us in

(25:14):
the four o'clock hour to talk about their win. Pushed
to the limit by a good old Miss team yesterday
and they did manage to come through with a win.
Never led by more than three, trailed by as many
as eight, including with about six minutes to go, but
just pushed back, found a way to break through and
get the win. And it was a good crowd. Yesterday

(25:36):
they had the fiftieth anniversary. I think it was celebration
or at least as celebration of the history of ole
Miss women's basketball, and it was cool. They had a
lot of pretty famous players and coaches. Their Van Chancellor,
of course, the legendary head coach there. It was a

(25:58):
coach of the Houston comments at the outset of the
WNBA when they won those four straight titles. Also included
in that group Carol Ross, who had coached there got
him to an elite aid that coached at Florida. Carol
was here in town when GAYL Gueston Course was the
head coach at Texas and Gail was there as well.

(26:20):
It was great to see Gail and great to see Carol.
And Carol was my radio analyst on Texas women's games
for the time that Gail was the head coach, and
so we were chatting up some old times. It was
good to see them, and it was also good to
see a lifetime log horn Empress Davenport, who played who
was recruited to Texas by Gail Gueston Course, and then

(26:41):
after Gaile left, she played for Karen astron Aston Empress
is from Duncanville, playing on the state championship. I'd done
her state championship game on television. It was great to
see her. She was a tough, gritty guard for Texas
and is now on the coaching staff, and so it

(27:01):
was it was. It was good to see all of
them yesterday and good for Texas get out of there
with a wind. That's a nice arena came. You'll see
that on Wednesday when we're over there. The pavilion, I
think it's the Sandy and John Black Pavilion.

Speaker 3 (27:15):
S JB as they call it.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
I noticed, yeah, and and the and and the old
arena is still there, like a few hundred yards away.
It was called the was it tad I forgot what
they called it, the Tad pad uh and Uh Tad
Smiths Tad Smith Coliseum. And I'd done a game there

(27:38):
when Texas played there, I think in two thousand and eight,
when Gael Guest of course was the coach. They played there.
It was an arena kind of like the old Daniel
Meyer Coliseum in Fort Worreth. If you've ever been to
what is now known as fant Ewing. It was Ewing
Coliseum in Monroe, Louisiana, where Uel Monroe plays. I'm told
I think the arena at Southern Miss is like this.

(28:00):
It's just that oval kind of arena comes down to
a railing and there's some space before the floor, and
that's how that the old arena was. This one is
built much more and it's been around for a while,
but for several years, at least ten years, I think.
But it's nice the way they've built. It's pretty steep
going up and it's got phan amenities and stuff like that.

(28:21):
And that's where the Texas men will be on Wednesday
to play the old miss Rebels coach by Chris Beard.
And they've been stumbling of late. Got off to a
great start, but they've now dropped three in a row.
They lost that tough game a week ago Saturday in
overtime at Southern Miss. I mean, excuse you. Mississippi State

(28:43):
then lost that game that they pretty much had in
the pocket against Texas A and M last Wednesday, and
Gaggi's found a way to win that, and then they
went to Missouri and lost to the Tigers. Tigers coming
off the lost of Texas. Of course A and M
coming off that stealing one in Oxford when had one,
as they would say, stole and from them as Texas
was able to come up with the wins. So the
long Ones had back to back wins of A ranked opponents.

(29:06):
And that's pretty cool.

Speaker 3 (29:07):
Have you heard or did you hear anything from Ole
Miss people about Wednesday's game? Anything special? When I visited
with Tom Hart and is it Dane Brown, Dane Bradshaw, Bradshaw,
the two guys who work in the telecastside, they were
talking about how they were telling O Miss students at
the A and M game that if you attend three

(29:30):
home games, you will have first priority for the fourth game.
And I believe the fourth game is Texas Old Miss.
They're trying to I guess you know, they know it's
a big game, but I'm curious. Did you hear anything
during your time in Oxford yesterday?

Speaker 1 (29:43):
I just saw the promotional announcements on the overhead scoreboard.
And as we know quite often, and in the case
of the University of Texas, it supplies as well. The
fan bases are different and it's more of an alumni
based crowd and older out there at Oxford and families
with a lot of kids. Same story in Austin. You know,

(30:07):
the students have started to turn out well, but the
corral was not in play in force for the women's
games the way it is for the men's games. You
have some season ticket older sitting in there.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
So does they have a name for the student section
like like Bear did with the crow in Austin.

Speaker 1 (30:22):
I did not hear that, and their students were basically
on the baselines there.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
But that may not There's a good chance that may
not be the case.

Speaker 1 (30:33):
When the Long Warns play there on Wednesday, we'll find out, certainly,
since we'll be out there to call it. But it's
a nice building. It's a good arena, it really is.
A lot of their facilities are very nice. Football stadium's undergone,
a lot of renovation has been nice, and the baseball
park has been cool. Texas, of course, won a Super

(30:55):
Regional there in two thousand and five. Texas does not
play Old Miss in conference play this year. It's odd
that they do play them in a game that will
be a non conference game in Arlington and Globalife Field.
It will be their second game of the season. Long
Worn baseball will coming up, and so that'll be the
second game of the season, but it won't count as

(31:20):
a conference game on that and they don't have Ole
Miss in the rotation on the conference series this year.
They do open SEC play at Mississippi State at Duty Noblefield,
and that's going to be quite that. They have to
go to Starkville, Fayetteville, Lexington. They have A and M

(31:44):
at home. They have Florida at home. They have Georgia
at home. I don't think they play their Alabama or
Auburn off the top of my head, trying to remember that.
And they don't play South Carolina, so anyway, those are
you know. So they have LSU at home, I know that,

(32:05):
so anyway, and they don't play Tennessee, the defending national
champions So that's you know, for long worn baseball. That's
what's what's coming up. But they don't play Ole Miss
except that one, the one off the non conference game
in Arlington, Okay, NFC and AFC championship games. You had

(32:25):
it all and you were kind of watching while you
were you know, supplying your services as our studio anchor
and broadcast coordinator for the women's game yesterday. So I
don't think anybody was really really surprised by what happened
in Philadelphia at the Eagles taking down the Commanders.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
No, I don't think so. Obviously. I believe the better
team won Philadelphia. And for a team like Washington, when
you're an underdog on the road, there's a couple of
things that come into play. And Texas fans know this
because of happened against Ohio.

Speaker 1 (32:53):
State.

Speaker 3 (32:54):
Got to be able to score in the red zone,
and you can't turn the ball over. And for Washington,
aust a turnover battle pretty quickly. It was a three nothing,
four nothing turnover margin. And you know a lot of
people point to the referees, but hey, those two fumbles,
it could have been a tie game at halftime, right Washington,
it could have been a one score game at halftime.

(33:16):
But when you lose the turnover battle like that, it's
so tough to beat a team like the Philadelphia Eagles
who execute at a very very high level and don't
really turn the ball over, And it's a tough recipe
to win when you when you do have turnovers. In
Washington unfortunately saw that, So no surprise. There a fantastic

(33:36):
season for the Commanders, though I don't think anyone thought
they would make it this far into the playoffs. It's
a job well done by Dan Quinn in his first season.
Cliff Kingsbury, you know, he always had the reputation for
all his offense is artist good in the second year.
The second half of the season looked pretty good all
the way through until yesterday. And defensively there's probably some

(33:57):
spots they want to upgrade, especially on the defensive. I
think they were down two key starters in that game.
I mean, that's obviously just part of football. Buffalo can
argue the same thing. But a good season for Washington
and unfortunately for you know, for Cowboy fans, we have
to watch Philadelphia back in the Super Bowl again, with
three times in the last ten years, one in one

(34:19):
record now shot at redemption for Jaalen Hurts and Nick
Sirianni and when we get to see a Sirianni cry during.

Speaker 1 (34:26):
The National Asium again. All right, how did you get
to see all the AFC chance? Yes, Oh my gosh.

Speaker 3 (34:33):
If you don't love football, I don't know. If you
didn't love that game last night, I don't know what
to tell you. That was a fantastic football game on
both sides in who if you pick against Patrick Mahomes,
what are you doing at this point? What else do
you need to see? I mean, this dude in this
team and Andy Reid, I mean credit to what they're done.
He's lost three playoff games, Craig, he has twenty nine

(34:55):
postseason victories. Tom Brady the Goat has thirty five for
his career homes. If he wins, and in two weeks
he'll only be five wins away in the postseason from
tying tom Brady's mark, and he's only twenty nine years old.
We saw what Xavier Worthy did, which all Texas fans
expected a fantastic game for him. Mark Heath Brown uh

(35:15):
flashing some signs, Juju smith Suster making some plays. I mean,
Travis Kelsey had won three catches and they still won.
Ryan the former big only touch, only touch of the game,
Craig came on the biggest play play of the game.
You know, it sealed the victory for Casey and you know,
of course give all the credit to Steve's back that

(35:35):
that blitz. He called him forth down absolutely filthy Tony
Romo right before the call. Well, I thought Roman did
a good job I know people just dislike him just
to dislike him. But you know, you know, Heath said
right before the ball was stamped, I think a don't
have time here. That was the Skies. That's back through
an Allen. Of course he did not have time somehow
it was a Dulton kincaid. The ball was in his hands.

(35:56):
Does not guarantee of Bill's victory. But uh, a fantastic
game for Kansas City. And I mean, speaking of tortured
fan bases, oh boy, for Buffalo it was the third now,
the third lost to Homes in the playoff. Of course
you have Josh Allen's hoing four against him at the
thirteen second games right two years ago in the divisional round,

(36:16):
and then now this one. I mean, I I believe
Casey was a better team. But still if you're a
Buffalo fan, I mean you're thinking, you know, what more
can we do? Like Buffalo had zero turnovers in the game, right,
just the fourth down stop. It's the biggest player. Yeah,
and I think I would like to have seen more
James Cook as well. Neck And I'm gonna repeat what
I said at the first hour. I'm not a Chiefs fan,

(36:37):
but I'm not an anti Chiefs fan.

Speaker 1 (36:38):
You know that's I'm not worn out and wearied over
whatever when I love Taylor Swift is at the games
or whatever, and they keep showing the camera shots that's
not on the Chiefs, that's on the networks they that's
a producer making the call to do that, to take

(36:58):
that shot off of that, and then the director and whatever.
That's that's what they do. And if you've looked at
anything on social media, you know folks that they cheated
if Roger Goodell in the NFL, they cheat for the
Chiefs and all that. Come on.

Speaker 3 (37:17):
Actually, I had a in my high school group. That's
what I'm weary. Yeah, these people saying, don't doesn't the
NFL know that we want we don't want the Eagles
and Chiefs back in it. Why are they rigging? Like
what yeah, right, it's rigged or whatever. If you if
I lose so much respect for you as a human
being if you think this is rig guys, just enjoy

(37:40):
enjoy the game.

Speaker 1 (37:40):
And if you don't enjoy it, if you don't, if
that's cool, I understand that. Don't watch it. If you
don't watch it, but don't say the business about being
rigged and all this other kind of stuff. I've seen
two angles where it looked like Josh Allen was close
to pick it up that first down. I've seen twelve
or thirteen that show that he was not. So come on,

(38:02):
you know, it's just it's just it's it's difficult. They
have to make it in order to beat the Chiefs.
You better make the plays you absolutely have to make
to do it. You look back when that they lost
an AFC championship game to the Bengals, who ended up
playing the Rams in the Super Bowl. The Bengals made plays.
They came up with big plays.

Speaker 3 (38:20):
When they homes and the offense in the second half.
Buffalo did not. Yeah, so there you have it. You
haven't early pick for the game. I didn't look at
the betting line.

Speaker 1 (38:32):
I don't even know what the line is. I have
to think about it. I mean, my initial gut reaction
is I think the Eagles are better.

Speaker 3 (38:40):
But two years ago. But the Chiefs are the Chiefs.
So you know, AC is favored by one and a half.

Speaker 1 (38:47):
Okay, all right. By the way, if if, if you
love a good bad beat out of that deal. And
H camera discovered this after the game on Saturday, Texas
was they would you say A one and a half
point and a half point against A and M. So
here they are getting blown out down twenty two. So
anybody had taken A and M said Texas would not cover,

(39:12):
that would was very very happy. Then it rolls all
the way down to the end of the game, and
uh and A and M's up a point. And then.

Speaker 3 (39:26):
The shot goes in to put Texas up a point,
but Texas still A and M still covered, still covered
by one half way. Vegas knows, yeah, Vegas, as Eddie
Orton would say, that's why you don't gamble. Just give
me your money and I'll give it back to you
the game. That's what always says, yeah, right, all right.

Speaker 1 (39:44):
Up next, we're gonna hear from Jerry Jones, speaking of gambles.
He's gambling on Brian Schottenhummer being the guy who can
get the Cowboys to the Promised Land. That's next here
on thirteen under the Zone.

Speaker 4 (40:01):
Welcome back to The Craig Way Show and the Voice
of the Longhorns Craig Way. Follow Craig on social media
at Horn Voice.

Speaker 1 (40:20):
Hey like to give you the opportunity to win something

(40:43):

you want to win a pair of tickets, what you

new iHeartRadio app, the New and Improvement downloaded on your smartphone.
If not, you downloaded. It's free. It's easy to do.
Thirteen under the zone. You tap that red button as

(41:04):
a white microphone. It says tap the red microphone. Exactly.
It's a red button with a white microphone. If I
remember correctly. You tap that button and then you leave
us a message with the keyword you heard on the radio.
Today's keyword someone someone that's the keyword. They're a progressive
rock band. Okay, all right, well there you are the

(41:27):
front man. He's got a gorgeous head of harrol.

Speaker 3 (41:29):
There you go.

Speaker 1 (41:30):
All right, So if you want to see the.

Speaker 3 (41:32):
Show, just to watch that head ahead clipping around while
he's singing or playing guitar. There you go, whatever he does.

Speaker 1 (41:39):
All right, So there it is your chance to win
a pair of tickets. Be sure to do that. All right,
Let's let's hear some comments about this Cowboys coaches hiring
from Jerry Jones, Stephen Jones, and from the new head
coach himself, Brian Schottenheimer. First, Jerry and Steven were asked
why did they hire and it's it's put down there

(42:02):
a Shoddy, which, by the way, is his nickname. I
don't know that. I don't want that nickname Shoty Shody.
I think I mean he it's his nickname is with
two t's, but if you think of it as two d's,
it's like a guy who doesn't Shoty doesn't do a
good job.

Speaker 3 (42:17):
Well, i'll tell you what. When the Cowboys are I
don't know, three or nine, Yeah, and there will be
a lot of like coach Shoty jokes going around and
the t's will not be t's obds.

Speaker 1 (42:28):
So all right, uh, well, here's Jerry and Steven. Although
I think it's primarily Jerry is I don't think Steven
was love to talk during this, okay, question, The question
was why did they make this higher.

Speaker 7 (42:41):
And almost thirty five years that I've been involved. It's
Dallas Cowboys. I've only missed one senior bow thirty five years,
and I think I missed one come in thirty five

(43:01):
years at the NFL over the last four or five
years the NFL. We want to come in a day
early so that we can visit with perspective coaches for

(43:21):
the future of my team and any of the teams
in thirty five years. I don't think I've ever visited
with a coach, But what in my heart and mind,
I wasn't having an interview. I don't think I've ever
had a coach visit with me that wasn't perspectively thinking

(43:47):
maybe someday our past might cross. I know Jones might
give me a little thought as I'm along the way.
I've been around a lot of coaches. As a matter
of fact, I wanted to be a coach, except I
wanted to live better than I thought coaches left. I

(44:09):
wanted to drive a little bigger car, and I wanted
to fly in an airplane had I known what I'm
paying them now to have been a damn coach. But
having said that, coaching is no no and the makeup
of coaches are no stranger to me. On my college team,

(44:34):
within almost three years after we won the national championship,
every position coach, the Johnny Majors, the Hayden Fries, the
Doug Dickies, every position coach became a head coach Barry
Switzerland at Oklahoma. So I've seen it when I was

(44:54):
a pup. I have a good background in the makeup
of what a coach is. To think that you could
make a decision in an interview and not have talked

(45:21):
if you didn't and hadn't ever communicated or had a visit,
I wouldn't dare have had an interview unless I talked
to many many people that knew that person and those
kinds of life experiences, knew their story if you will,
shot him, knew their story. Pat is here today, Jeane,

(45:45):
my wife is here. Pat has shot his mama. When
I served on the Competent Competition Committee, we had many
times that we were together. Jane knew Marty. Okay, we
knew you. We know what osmosis is and we know

(46:09):
what shot he grew up around. Not just from that,
but we knew frankly from the standpoint of shady.

Speaker 1 (46:20):
Those ex hairs crossed.

Speaker 7 (46:24):
Shoty might never have been in our mirror or in
our view had not joined us to be with Mike
as a consultant three years ago.

Speaker 3 (46:33):
And it has been a coach.

Speaker 7 (46:37):
I've set in handfuls of meetings which Sha.

Speaker 1 (46:43):
I've listened. I've watched him.

Speaker 7 (46:44):
I've watched him have difference to his head coach. I've
watched him have deference to experience, guys like Zimmer, guys
left get around. I've watched him bite his lips sometime
when he didn't necessarily agree with that direction, but he
bit his limp as his daddy would have told him
to bite your lip. Have deference to the head coach.

(47:10):
I've watched him exercise those things. I've particularly been a
part of seeing what's brought this players in here today,
Guys like that. And I know that Shady is no
stranger to these guys. I know he's no stranger to
this building. Now I get my verbial ass kick over

(47:34):
needing people in my comfort zone without this thing being
about me in any way. If you don't think I
can operate out of my comfort zone, you're so wrong,
it's unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (47:49):
Okay, My thoughts from Jerry Jones sound a little defensive
and ready to I almost got the vibe that he
was responding in large measure, not so much to the media,
but to the fans who have been so angry and
heart was responding to you, Cameron Parker, you questioning his decisions.

Speaker 3 (48:14):
He didn't even answer the question. I was talking about
his wife and then shot his wife. I mean, yeah, yeah,
I guess that's what you got to do at some point,
right You got to be able to take a question
and just completely deflect him.

Speaker 1 (48:28):
Yeah, some of that. We'll actually hear from Shoddy from
the new Cowboys head coach coming up here on a
thirteen under the Zone Aaron on Monday afternoon. I'm thirteen

(49:00):
hunder the Zone, Craig White, Cameron Parker with you. So
we heard from Jerry Jones from this Cowboys news conference
on why Brian Schottenheimer is now the choice for the
head coach. Let's hear from the man they call Shoddy himself.
He was asked why he believes he can take Dallas

(49:23):
farther than Mike McCarthy did.

Speaker 8 (49:26):
Mike's one of my best friends. And when you talk
about what Mike and this football team has done over
the last five years. It's been some incredible, incredible success.
One of my greatest strengths is my ability to create relationships,

(49:50):
relationships that are built on trust, respect, connection. I'm really
good with ex's and o's, but I'm great with people, and.

Speaker 1 (50:07):
The type of men that we have in this locker
room are excited about that.

Speaker 6 (50:15):
And so.

Speaker 8 (50:17):
I think as we build this thing out, as the
culture comes together of this team, that's where I feel
like my greatest impact will be felt. With the relationships,
the ability to communicate. I've always been someone that was

(50:39):
very good at having open dialogue, hard conversations, and I've
always tried to paint very clear, bright lines, and that's
what I plan to do as the head coach of
the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 2 (50:54):
All Right.

Speaker 1 (50:54):
He was also asked, and I think it was our
friend and my boss for seven years and one of
the mental wars I've had in my broadcast career, Brad
Sham the voice of the Cowboys, Why is he ready
now to take a head coaching job.

Speaker 8 (51:09):
I think you know, over the past nineteen years when
that first was afforded me, when I was first time
coordinated with the New York Jets and.

Speaker 1 (51:21):
Bright spotlight. I just there were there were things that
made me pause.

Speaker 8 (51:30):
Now, spending the better part of the last nineteen years learning, listening, doing,
I've learned things, almost more things that I don't believe
in than things that I believe in. Todd, I've always
tried to be someone that moves around. I want to
I want to be around incredible coaches and players and

(51:53):
try to learn from them. And so going to Seattle
was I would say, critical coal to my development as
a coach. Pete Carroll challenged me in a number of ways.
He challenged me to be to continue to be authentic,

(52:14):
to continue to dive into the relationships that matter, which
is your coaches, your players, ownership. He challenged me offensively,
to be honest with you. Challenged me with, hey, what
do you think about this scheme? What do you think
about that scheme?

Speaker 2 (52:30):
You know?

Speaker 1 (52:30):
And the McVeigh.

Speaker 8 (52:32):
Shanahan style was taken off and Seattle we were competing against,
you know, Sean and Kyle, and so he's like he
was pressing me. So I just really feel like things
changed for me when I went with Pete. Learned a
ton from my dad and all the coaches, Mike and
Steve Spurrier, all those guys. But Pete Carroll had a

(52:54):
huge impact on me and it probably sharpened my edge
and sharpened my view on what I want this opportunity
to look like. And that was a big, big, big
change for me, and uh one that uh I'm excited
about moving forward.

Speaker 1 (53:12):
Here's a common thread with Sark and Pete Carroll was
an influence on him from that. And then we actually
have a piece of sound where Steven Jones actually speaks,
and this is the one where he was asked what
went on behind closed doors in their conversations that ultimately
led to the decision to hire Brian John Hier.

Speaker 6 (53:32):
You know, as I said, and certainly I probably won't
anybody have respect, uh, you know for what Shoty's role was.
I mean, Mike was our play caller. He was our
head coach, and then he was our play caller, and uh,
you know, Shotty was there to support him as the
offensive coordinator. But I think the you know, some of
the most important things, uh for us, after you get

(53:53):
to know the man better and you see the energy,
you see the way he can communicate with Jerry, with myself,
with the room. You know, certainly that jumped out at you.
But the bigger thing is I mentioned you know, we certainly,
uh want continuity, but we also want change and uh,
you know just felt like, you know, we we need.

Speaker 1 (54:14):
Something that's going to freshen it up.

Speaker 2 (54:16):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (54:16):
Mike did one hell of a job here.

Speaker 6 (54:18):
He's the winging his coach, I think in the history
of the franchise, you know, had an unprecedented you know,
three year run when in twelve games, So you know,
Mike did a lot of great things here. But at
the same time, uh, you know, we just felt like
Jerry felt like I was supportive of it, you know,
that we did need change and we wanted to hear
what how that was going to happen. And you know

(54:41):
it's not just the x as and o We obviously
went extensively uh through the x'es and o's, but we
also uh you know, you get into the schedules, you
get into how you get your players motivated, how you
take care of your players. All those things are you know,
part of being a head coach, and it's a lot
and that's why you a lot of people sometimes scratch

(55:01):
their head while why would you go with a first
time head coach? You know that's been the way of
the league these days, most are going with these young
offensive wizards.

Speaker 1 (55:12):
That hadn't been head coaches.

Speaker 6 (55:14):
But I think we've got a better version of that
because of Shoddy's experience.

Speaker 1 (55:18):
I mean everybody's mentioned it.

Speaker 6 (55:20):
Twenty five years of NFL coaching and a whole lifetime
of being around it. He played the game, you know,
at high level of competition in college. Certainly that made
an impression on him. But it was real important. The
more we met, the more we wanted to meet, and

(55:41):
I think that was helping us, you know, come to
a conclusion on what that decision should be in terms of,
you know, coach Schottenheimer being our next head coach.

Speaker 1 (55:52):
Okay, well, the thing that I was struck out of
that is he said that seems to be the way
in the NFL is these young offensive Wiart's regarded, and
we think we have a better version of that. Okay.
So it's better than Kyle Shanahan, It's better than Sean McVay,
better than Matt Lafleur's better than Mike McDaniels. It's better offense. Okay,

(56:20):
all right, that's uh. I believe that, like I believe
pro Football Focused several years ago, and so many people
put so much stock in Pro Football Focus when Pro
Football Focus several years ago, just a few years ago,
said that Cliff Kingsbury was a better head coach than
Sean McVay, and this was right after the Rams had

(56:43):
won the Super Bowl one receipts. I'm telling you, I
understand that, you know the amount of faith that folks
put in the Pro Football Focus, but sometimes they miss,
and that's a big miss on that one was right
before Kingsbury got fired in Arizona. Now, Clift did an

(57:03):
amazing job at Washington and they could probably even go
up from there on that. But I thought that was
a little bit of a stretch back then, just like
I think it's a little bit of a stretch right
now with Stevens saying they think they have a better
version of that. And forgive me if I think that.
You know that Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay and Matt

(57:24):
Lafleur and Mike McDaniels and those guys are better than
what Schttenheimer hasn't proven anything yet, but we'll have a
chance to see. Now he'll step in and he'll be
the head coach. All right, we'll be back to wrap
up our number two here on thirteen under the Zone,
third and final hour of the program. Here, I'm thirteen

(57:46):
under the Zone. Craig Way joined by the producer Cameron Parker,
will with you up until five o'clock. Coming up in
a few minutes, we'll talk Texas women's basketball with head
coach Vick Schaeffer Longhorns, coming off three wins in six
days and in all three cases beating ranked opponents, and
the toughest perhaps of the three games, the rally back

(58:06):
to win in Oxford over Ole Miss, And we'll get
his thoughts on They got a couple other questions general
women's college basketball questions I need to ask him. I
haven't had a chance to visit with him too much
about this. We've also heard from Jerry Jones. We've heard
from Brian Schottenheimer on the official making it announcement of

(58:28):
the Cowboys introducing Schottenheimer as their new head coach at
a news conference today. We'll hear some more from them
just a little bit later on as well. NBA the
Other Shoe did drop Cameron Miami Heat suspending Jimmy Butler
indefinitely It's the third time that Butler's been suspended by
the Heat in recent weeks. It comes after he was

(58:51):
expected to return from his second suspension Monday night tonight
against Orlando. The Heat we're planning to have Butler come
off the bench moving forward. Remember he missed a team flight.
He had a pair of suspensions. The first was for

(59:11):
seven games due to conduct that the Heat needed detrimental.
That was when he was talking about wanting to be
traded and he was done with the Heat. So then
after he returned for three games, he got suspended again
for two games because he missed a team flight to
Milwaukee last week. The Heat have said they're trying to
work a deal. Butler says he wants to be traded.

(59:31):
So then the Heat we're planning to have Butler come
off the bench at least starting the night against Orlando.
He responded to the news by walking out of their
morning shoot around today. So the Heat suspended him indefinitely. Yeah,
that'll get your suspension. Just walk off the floor, walk
out on your team like that.

Speaker 3 (59:52):
He posted on Instagram. Just now video. I think it's
from the show Martin with Martin Lawrence, I one of
the characters talking about Martin Lawrence starting with the character
being jobless. So Jimmy Butler kind of poking fun at
at Kevin Love, who is a Miami player, kind of
doing the same thing, posting a little meme video of

(01:00:14):
a Denzel Washington movie on Instagram, also poking fun at
at Jimmy Butler. What a disastrous turn of events this
has been this season for the Miami Heat and Craig
I don't really know what the fix is. Obviously, the
relationship between Butler and the Miami Heat strained beyond repair.
There's no coming back from.

Speaker 1 (01:00:33):
This, and their level five hundred right now, they'd be
in the They be in the play in if the
postseason started.

Speaker 3 (01:00:38):
And judge them by this post from Jimmy Butler, He's
done with the team, so now you got to find
a way to be able to trade him. But again,
you know, Jimmy Butler an expiring deal, so he wants
to at least it seems he wants to be traded
to a team that will give him a contract extension,
which there might not be a lot of teams who
a have the financial flexibility to be able to trade

(01:01:03):
for him and also extend him. Be there not not
be any teams that want to extend him. And then
see remember this whole poor, this whole point about the
second Apron, right, A lot of teams that would like
to possibly trade for him, like you know, the Golden
State Warriors, or the Phoenix Suns or the Milwaukee Bucks.
You know, they are impacted by this second apron and

(01:01:25):
it makes so much makes being able to trade for
a player of his caliber and with his contract much
more difficult. So I think of the you know, the
Phoenix Suns, they kind of seem like that the team
that everyone thinks it's going to end up with them.
You know, they have Bradley Beal. You know, Beal's been benched.
Nurki It's been benched, Jimmy Butler's been benched. Jimmy Butler's
indicated he wants to go to the Phoenix Suns and

(01:01:48):
play with Booker and Katie. I think the Heat could
use someone like Nurkice and someone like Bradley Beal, but
does it doesn't work because Miami, you know, Bradley Buial's
owed a hundred and eleven million dollars. They would have
to take that from Bradley Beal or find a team
that would be willing to take that contract off of
Bradley Bial. So if you would trade for Bradley Bild,

(01:02:09):
then you would trade him to another team that has
to take on And it doesn't seem like Miami or
pat really wants to take on that contract because I
don't think Bradley Bial is worth a hundred and eleven
million dollars. So it's trying to find a team that
wants to one that can afford his contract and also
be wants to deal with the personality Jimmy brother because
he's gone now from what Chicago to Minnesota, to Philadelphia

(01:02:33):
and now Miami, and outside of Chicago, has he left
the other three teams amicably?

Speaker 1 (01:02:42):
No?

Speaker 3 (01:02:42):
No, I totally forgot about the t Wolves. Yeah, that
was a disaster. I mean the whole practice thing where
he went in and flipped out on Anthony Towns and
Dangelo maybe Dangel Russell. And then that goes to Philadelphia
and you know, Embiid and Jimmy Butler get long, no chance,
no chance. And now Miami, I mean he took Miami.

(01:03:03):
The two conference finals are two NBA finals, excuse me?
And I understand he wants to get paid but you know,
he hasn't played well the last couple of years. He
hasn't been healthy the last couple years, So I understand
Miami and pat Riley not wanting to really pay him.

Speaker 2 (01:03:15):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (01:03:15):
Also, I think Jimmy Butler, I mean, the NBA trade
deadline is kind of turning into kind of a snoozefest
because of all the new cap and this new CBA
that a player like Jimmy Butler, who I just don't
think is that good anymore, is becoming a huge storyline,
and I think, honestly, I'm kind of past it. Craig,
I just I don't think Jimmy Butler's going to make
the Suns or the Warriors or the Bucks or whoever

(01:03:38):
an NBA contender just because they have Jimmy Butler on
the team. So it's crazy seeing how the storyline has
dragged out. But you know, I do not expect to
see Jimmy Butler ever playing with the game of basketball
in Miami Heat uniform.

Speaker 1 (01:03:52):
I know that every player ultimately is his own man. However,
many of them put so much faith and trust in
their representation, in their agents. Maybe I'm just way off
based on this and don't understand it enough. I would
think also that his agents would tell him this is

(01:04:15):
not a good move. You know, let us work. See
if we work the deal. But you can't make the
situation worse by walking out on your team. They're going
to suspend you if that's the case, and it makes
it much more difficult to do a deal with a
suspended player than when an active contributing participant.

Speaker 3 (01:04:34):
And I believe every game he misses Craig, it's about
nine hundred thousand dollars good Lord, per game, per game.
And there's something, you know, there's some you know, verbiage
in the contract and the CBA, you know, like certain
things will get fined for and certain things not. But
deestimation he's lost over I think we're getting close to,

(01:04:54):
you know, eight figures in terms of because he's missed.
You know, he's missed a lot of games this season
now he started five. He's made a lot of money
in his career, so obviously he's doing this on purpose.
But yeah, I mean over the weekend, Craig video is
popping up of him at some some club in Miami
getting into it with people there. It's like, yo, like
you what about the agent, Like, if you're his agent

(01:05:15):
and he's pr guy, where is the whole thing about? Oh,
Jimmy Butler's been in the gym non stop. It seems like,
you know, he could be working out and he could
be practicing, but it seems like he's missing these games.
He's you know, it's a complete clown. So he's going
the club still, he doesn't really care. Why would you
want to trade for that? Why would you want to.

Speaker 1 (01:05:32):
Find what I'm saying he make It makes one's marketability. Yeah,
extremely difficult. We're going to trade for like if you're
a contender like Milwaukee Bucks, the worst. Our goal with
the Suns, our goal is to win and content for
an NBA championship. You're trading for a guy who's getting
in the fights with some dude at some club in
Miami over the weekend while people are questioning his you know,
questioning what he's doing. No, it's it's an awful look.

(01:05:54):
It's an awful look. And he's a grown man. He's
thirty five. He should know what he's doing to his image.

Speaker 3 (01:06:00):
I mean, we know he's been a good basketball player
when he's been healthy, but just an awful look his
value is going down. The Miami Heat have no leverage.
I don't think Butler has any leverage. It's it's been
a lose lose for both sides.

Speaker 1 (01:06:13):
I think after last season it makes me think about
something that is back obviously almost fifteen years. I guess
it's been a long time. Jimmy Butler, of course, being
from the Houston area, really wanted to go to the
University of Texas very much. So wanted to go to
the University of Texas. He's from Tyler, I guess originally,
but he had played down at the Academy in Houston,

(01:06:35):
I believe, and really wanted to go to the University
of Texas and Rick Barnes did not.

Speaker 2 (01:06:43):
He went to Tyler.

Speaker 3 (01:06:43):
He's from the Tomball High School, I said, the Houston area. Yeah,
I was thinking Tyler Jua but Juco where he started
his career.

Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (01:06:51):
And so the're academic issues first of all, to try
to get him into school, and then the other thing.
Rick Barnes had be given intel that that he wasn't
a good teammate and that and that, and I think
the phrase had got the end of up quit on
his team before. And that comes to mind when when

(01:07:14):
I see this, and Rick ended up not really actively
recruiting him, and then he kind of, you know, did
a slow burn on that was mad that he never
got recruited to play at Texas, and he's had some
fabulous games in the NBA. But now you look at
this's what's happening there. It's certainly not helping a situation.
So anyway, it's an indefinite suspension there for Jimmy Butler.

(01:07:36):
All right, we're going to talk college basketball and of
the women's variety. We'll visit with head coach Vick Schaeffer
of the Texas women's team. Coming up here on a
thirteen under the zone. It bounced to the left side
of Addison Scott, guarded by Jordan League. Ten seconds to go,
Scott trying to drive inside down on the baseline, fadeaway jumpers,
short fall ups on the floor lead with the rebound

(01:07:57):
for Texas, and they Fouler a two point six to go.
So here we go. Scott the inbound right in front
of the ole miss bitch looking still looking, lots it
high in the air. It's picked off by Booker and
that will do it. Madison. Booker comes home to Mississippi
knocks down a key jumper, comes up with a steal,

(01:08:18):
and the Loghorns get out of Oxford with their twentieth
win of the season and their sixth SEC win of
the year, and was quite the finish to yesterday's game
for the long Horns Texas with a win over Ole
miss in Oxford sixty one to fifty eight. We welcome
you back to the program, Craig Way, alongside the producer

(01:08:39):
Cameron Parker. Very pleased to be joined by the head
coach of the Longhorns, and that's big Schaeffer joins us
now on the hot line. Vick I, you know this
is life in the league. And you told me a
week ago after the win over Maryland, you said, this
team befuddles me from time to time. I like that term,

(01:09:01):
but I thought about that when you've had really good
performances and then games where you really had to fight
for your life against a good old miss team yesterday.

Speaker 2 (01:09:09):
Well, and you got to remember that team yesterday has
been in and out of the top twenty five this year.
They're really good. They're a veteran team and their best
players a fifty year senior like Shay in her COVID year.
So you know, we beat a really good team on
the road yesterday. It was their fifty year reunion you know,

(01:09:31):
for their best players and best team over the years.
So you know, it was a great win for our kids.
I mean to be down eight inside of five minutes,
seven inside of just inside of outside of four, outscored
from thirteen to two down the stretch. We had so

(01:09:52):
many people, you know, contribute to that win yesterday, finding
out twenty five minutes for the game that Eleah Moore
is not going to be available, not having a chance
to really practice, knowing that, not even having a shoot around,
knowing that that was you know, that throws a little
bit of a wrench into things. So proud of our kids.

Speaker 1 (01:10:13):
You know.

Speaker 2 (01:10:13):
We had to play the bus driver defense yesterday a lot,
which I don't like, but we had a matchup problem
that we had to cover up and kids did a
great job in it.

Speaker 1 (01:10:23):
Hey.

Speaker 2 (01:10:23):
Hey, and by the way, good afternoon. Thanks for having
me on.

Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
Yeah you bet you know. Now, now explain bus driver
defense that goes to zone. I know you mixed in
a little bit of zone, but that's not your classic
what I've heard you referred to what opponents do to
you the classic two three hope you miss.

Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
Zone right right, Yeah, we were. We had to play
the match up yesterday a little bit, and you know,
I don't know why, but I kind of thought we might.
We worked on it a little bit Saturday. We actually
spent some some significant time because I thought we might
have to play it, and sure enough we did. So,

(01:11:02):
you know, our kids did a good job. I think
we held them to thirty seven points over the three
quarters that we had to play it, and had two
quarters of eleven points the second and the fourth quarter.
So the last five minutes though, yesterday was our typical
man and we did a great job. Jordan Lee did
a great job with Madison Scott on their team, who

(01:11:25):
was their best player. And you know, Taylor Jones was
special yesterday, twenty four and six and ten out of
eleventh free throw line, seven for eleven from the field. Obviously,
Booker made some big shots for us down the stretch.
And I thought Rory really did a good job running
her team yesterday. She just really played well under control.

(01:11:51):
Seven assists, just did a great job. So we had
seventeen assists on twenty two baskets.

Speaker 1 (01:12:00):
You you called time out when you were down fifty
six forty eight, six minutes to go, largest depthsit of
the ball game. They had an eight point lead in
the first half, but they had an eight point lead
there at at fifty six forty eight. What was the
message because after that, from that point your team out
scored them thirteen to two and really held them completely

(01:12:20):
scoreless the final four minutes of the game.

Speaker 2 (01:12:23):
Right, Yeah, I just you know, we were in a
spot we needed to get a we needed to score.
So I'm pretty sure we talked about a set that
I wanted to run and get some get the ball
the right person. They were really struggling Garden Taylor inside.
She had basically filed out their whole post group and
her head put them in foul trouble. So they were

(01:12:46):
having a hard time dealing with her, and you know,
we went to her a lot. I think she had
ten points in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (01:12:52):
But.

Speaker 2 (01:12:54):
Man, it was physical down there. They you know, somebody said,
where were you? I said, I was following the report,
Uh for you know, assault she was. She was really
getting all We'll just say she was getting a lot
of attention, no doubt. So you know, it's just proud

(01:13:15):
of her. She showed a lot of toughness yesterday, Craig.
She's really grown in that area, and uh so I'm
happy for her. And obviously I'm kidding about the assault,
but it just you know, she really she really took
took a beating yesterday and just kept on ticking. Man.
She stayed right after it. And she's really grown her toughness.

(01:13:36):
Her level of comfettive spirit and toughness is really improved.

Speaker 1 (01:13:42):
Yeah, no doubt about it. Visiting the vic Shaef for
Texas Women's head coach here on thirteen under zone, I'm
looking at the updated top twenty five. Your teams up
to number five now moved back up to the number
five spot. But I'm looking at the other teams here.
You haven't played UCLA yet. Uh maybe somewhere down the
round the NCAA they're number one. But I'm looking at
the teams you played and or will play. South Carolina's

(01:14:04):
number two. You played them over in Columbia. You're gonna
get them here on Super Bowl Sunday early that afternoon.
Notre Dame's number three had to play them all on
the road overtime game. There you have LSU's number seven.
They're here on the sixteenth. Then you've got Kentucky number twelve.
You've got to go there and play. You have Oklahoma
number thirteen, you've already won up there. You have Maryland

(01:14:25):
number fourteen. Them were number eight when you beat them
a week ago. Looking at this down the Tennessee is
number eighteen. They dropped one spot after you beat them
the other day. West Virginia you beat down in the
tournament in Fort Myers. Their number twenty one. Alabama you
beat handily their number twenty two Vanderbilt. You're going to
be playing Shay Ralph has them in the poll for

(01:14:45):
the first time in eleven years. They're in at number
twenty three. So, I mean, I know the beat goes on,
and I know it's a murderers road thing, but I
guess that's become life in the SEC. Is you knew
what when you were coaching Mississippi State, right question?

Speaker 2 (01:15:00):
I mean, you know, I think our kids. I was
talking to Rory and Mattie earlier today. They stopped by.
It's their off day and we don't do anything. But
you know, it's just it's different. The athleticism, the length
is way different. In this lebel in this league, and

(01:15:22):
so our kids are really having to adjust to that.
You can talk about it all you want, but until
you experience it and see it. You know, our kids
that have been here, Shay Rory, that have been here
a long time, they're really you know, they're they're seeing
the difference. And that's no disrespect to the Big twelve,

(01:15:44):
but it's just different. So we're adjusting, our kids are
learning to, you know, how to deal with it. And
that's what I thought. Rory was so special yesterday. She
really did a good job and managing our team, managing
the game. She was level headed, solid, she was poised

(01:16:08):
in the noise yesterday and so really really good game
for her.

Speaker 1 (01:16:14):
I asked you in our pregame conversation if you even
needed to say anything to Madison about coming back home
to play with thirty plus family and friends there in
the stands, and you said, no, she handles all that
really well, and she'll have to do it again when
we come back to play Mississippi State. I'm just curious,
as a general overall of view, I would imagine I

(01:16:37):
guess it comes down to the individual player. But when
you have a player going back to her hometown or
her home area region to play. Is it individual as
to whether you even say anything to anyone about that,
about how they mentally and emotionally handle that scenario walking
into it.

Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
Yeah, you know, I don't. I don't think over the years,
I make a too big of a deal over as
far as you know how somebody's going to play in
the game. It needs to be fun, you know. I
was so happy for Madison yesterday. She had her eighth
grade I think history teacher, English teacher at the game yesterday.

(01:17:18):
She didn't know she was going to be there, and
she had so much so much family there, and uh,
you know, I'm just a happy for her, you know
that she was able to do that and they got
to see her obviously make a big shot. She had
three big blocks. Defensively, was a factor for us had

(01:17:43):
she had ten rebounds, you know, for assists, had two steals,
three block shots. I mean, she had a really she
filled up the statue, you know, more than just points
and so but that's Madison and and that's that's why
I have so much confidence Center. I don't care if
she's missed five in a row or made five in

(01:18:03):
a row. I promise you I'm probably still coming, you know,
coming to her and going to that well every chance
I get you. Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:18:13):
And by the way, this comes with no surprise to you.
She was named the Natesmith Trophy Player of the Week
for those three games there. And I want to ask you, yeah,
I want to ask you also, uh to tell people
a little bet about Leah Crump for folks who don't know.
That's a McDonald's solimeric named the McDonald's All American today.
And she'll be coming in uh next season, and and uh,

(01:18:34):
this is someone who's won gold for the US Women's
America Cup in Leo, Mexico. Uh, for that Nike Hoops Summit.
All of those kinds of things tell everybody the type
of players she'll be or what you envisioned her to
be when she comes in next season.

Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
Yeah, just really excited about her. Great kid, unbelievable family.
Big guard six one May now has point guards vision
like Booker does. She sees the floor, she enjoys the
passes much as the bucket, big time range out to

(01:19:13):
way past the three point line has the mid range,
can finish at the rim with contact. Just a really
good player. We're super excited about her. We we Uh
you know, I went to Minnesota more than I've ever
been there. My staff did a great job recruiting her.

(01:19:34):
And you know, just just really gonna make an impact
on our team right away, I believe. And uh, fit's
right in with what we do and how we do it.
And so she's gonna be somebody everybody's gonna love watching.
Plays the game. Extremely hard, tough kid, doesn't mind banging

(01:19:58):
and being physical down there, and uh, you know, it's
gonna be fun. She's a She's a really good player.
That a great kid.

Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
I'm curious to get your thoughts on something completely different.
I remember asking you about this when you were asked
about it at length. I think of news conferences. Last year,
is her team embarked on its NCAA tournament journey, you
were asked, uh, what do you think about this new
format where the NCAA is playing two Sweet sixteens and
two Elite eights at the same site. And last year

(01:20:29):
was all but the im Portland and your team ultimately
got out to the Elite eight in Portland. This year
it's Birmingham and Spokane, and and you were asked what
you think of it? And you said, well, we haven't
done it yet. I want to go through this and
and see how it's operated and and uh and and
see what I think of it. All right, So there's
one under belt. And other than that that indelible image.

(01:20:53):
I remember you stepping off the distance out to the
three point arc in Portland. That wasn't far enough out.
That was a little bit different. Other than that, what's
your thought on it now? Having been through it one time?
As they get ready to do this again this time
with Spokane in Birmingham being the two Sweet sixteen Slash

(01:21:14):
Elite eight sites.

Speaker 2 (01:21:16):
Yeah, I'm not a fan. It's too many games in
one site, which makes it difficult for teams to practice,
have shoot arounds. You know, they screwed up our time.
We were the last team to play one night and
the first one to have to practice the next morning. True,
that's crazy, that's like stupid, but that's what happened. Obviously,

(01:21:40):
we had the court issue. You know where we were
last year. I was trying to have a press conference
and you got some machine with the backup beeper going on, right,
you know, the fifty feet from me. I mean, just
as a trade wreck, and I just but I don't
lie that many people at one site. It really inhibits

(01:22:05):
and restricts your ability to practice in the facility, shoot
around in the facility in a timely manner. So I'm
not a fan. I don't like it. You know, whish
they'd go back to the the four predetermined sites and

(01:22:27):
you know, for the for the Sweet sixteen.

Speaker 1 (01:22:29):
And you'd also have a chance to play a little
closer to home, wouldn't you too if you had that
instead of you know, Birmingham is you know whatever, six
hundred miles away. I mean, that's the closes the Spokane.
You've already done that before a few years ago, way
up in the Northwest. I mean, you would think if
you put one one in the east, one in the South,
one in the Midwest, and one in the west, did
you have a shot to play a little bit close

(01:22:49):
to home?

Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
Craig, you're talking to the guy that had the number
one seat in the NCAA tournament, the number two teams
in the country, and they sent me to Oregon would
played the two seeded Ducks with the best team I
ever had, and we got upset as the number one

(01:23:14):
seat having to play Sabrini and escu's number two seeded
Ducks in front of thirteen thousand people dressed in green
and black. So the thing for me to think that
they would do me that let me play here in
the South, versus sending me to Spokane, I'll have to
believe it, you know, I'll have to see it to

(01:23:34):
believe it. So I'm you know, I just again, we
we there's got to be better ways to do it.
And again I don't like the whole eight teams at
one site trying to get ready to play. I mean,
Yukon couldn't even stay in the in the in the

(01:23:54):
their their hotel that they were assigned to the first
night they were in town. They had to move hotels
after their first night to get to the one that
they were assigned to because they mean room for So,
you know, it's just I just think there's a better
way to do it, but they don't ever ask me.
So all I do is show up where they tell
me to play.

Speaker 1 (01:24:14):
Which which we includes, by the way, for folks who
don't know, the SEC tournament is in South Carolina's backyard
in Greenville, and you've had to deal with that before,
Oh for sure.

Speaker 2 (01:24:24):
Yeah, I mean that's it is what it is. You know,
we just show up wherever they tell us to play
and try to do the best we can. And you know, Greenville,
the city of Greenville does a great job. It's just
you know, again, it's three hours from South Carolina's campus
to be like me playing in Houston or Dallas and

(01:24:44):
then everybody over there having to come this way and
it would affect their fan base and how they traveled.
So but it is what it is. I mean, yeah,
I'd rather fight the battle of playing on Sundays than
fight the battle of getting a sec. You know, tournament changed.

Speaker 1 (01:25:01):
Yeah, it's like playing in Iowa State and Kansas City
right last year?

Speaker 2 (01:25:05):
Yeah, and and well, I mean we had three uh
we beat we beat three home teams. Last year we
played Kansas, We played Kansas State and Iowa State back
to back to back, beat three. We were the visiting
is no question we were the visiting team three straight knights.

Speaker 1 (01:25:25):
Well, uh, I know you're I know you're going to
lock in on on getting ready for Missouri this week.

Speaker 2 (01:25:31):
Uh.

Speaker 1 (01:25:31):
The final thing I wanted to ask is when I
when I look at your schedule and I've read that
the ranked teams that you still have to play a
bunch of ranked teams. And I look in your schedule.
If people look really really closely, they can see one
or two teams that are struggling. Uh, that that you
still have to deal with. But but at this time
of year, and I think it was evidence the whole

(01:25:52):
miss is a good ball club. But they weren't ranked
yesterday when they played your team.

Speaker 3 (01:25:55):
Tough.

Speaker 1 (01:25:56):
Uh, At this time of year, little of that stuff
really even matters in the message that you have to
your group about preparing to go out and play. In
this case, it'll be Missouri on Thursday ninet at eight
o'clock at home.

Speaker 2 (01:26:09):
Yeah, no, I don't if you start worrying about that
and you're worried, well, you're thinking whether they or not ranked,
or they are ranked, or what their record is. I mean, look,
I remember our ninety eight team at Arkansas that went
to the Final four. We were seven and four. You
only played fourteen SEC games back in that day, and

(01:26:29):
we had to go to Ole miss on Valentine's Day.
They were the worst team in the league by far,
and we went in there and got beat like thirty five.
It was the Valentine's Day massacre. And I remember rolling
out of there and with coach Blair, and you know

(01:26:51):
that team would would get We not only lost that
when we lost two more to the end the season before,
we won one game in the SEC tournament, got beaten
the second round, end up having to go out to
Stanford to play in that region. It's the only time
the number one seed has been beaten on their home floor.

(01:27:11):
And we beat Harvard, they got upset. We beat Harvard
to go to the Sweet sixteen, end up going to
the Final four with that team. But it's just you know,
you start worrying and thinking that way. Look, I know,
I know Missouri a tremendous amount of respect for that
coach in that program. They are well coached. They will

(01:27:36):
be coached up on Thursday night and we'll play hard,
have a great plan, and we better have a good plan.

Speaker 1 (01:27:43):
Too, And you want to have a good crowd too
on Thursday.

Speaker 2 (01:27:47):
Yeah, I mean, we're it's eight o'clock game because it's
on TV, and so you know we're not you know,
it's eight at nine on Thursday night, so that'll be
hopefully not too challenging. Everybody maybe needs to take a
nap where they come to the game but it is
a late tip, but we certainly need our crier. Crowd
has been so special and really created an incredible home

(01:28:09):
court advantage for our players. And this team's special. This
team's fun, They're fun to watch, they play the game
the right way. We have we have some really special
kids on this team. We have some special talented kids
that you better not take for granted. And I know

(01:28:31):
you know me as a coach, I know that, but
sometimes as fans, you don't realize, you know what, Kevin
Durant ain't just coming around every other year, right. Uh,
you better better realize that we've got some some some
really special players on our team, and you better understand
that they're they're doing a heck of a job and

(01:28:54):
and you need to enjoy them while they're here, you know.
And uh, you know again, Rory Harmon's already had six
hundred assists. She's gonna end up being the all time
assist player in the history of University of Texas. Booker's
fixing to score her thousand point in a few games here.
She's fifty point shy of her one thousand point as

(01:29:17):
just a young sophomore, She's got a chance. She will
she'll go down in history, is one of the all
time greats, if not the greatest, in the history of
Texas when it was basketball. And so you know, we've
got some really I mean, Tyler Jones is playing at
an incredible level right now, really doing a great job
for She's getting the attention of a lot of people

(01:29:40):
at that next level right now. But the biggest thing
is she's showing a lot of toughness. She's showing them
their ability to be physical down there because she is
getting worn out, pounded on down there, and she just
keeps on fighting. So we've got some really, really good
players playing at a really high level. But they're special

(01:30:02):
and you don't want to take them for granted.

Speaker 1 (01:30:05):
No doubt about it. Next opportunity Thursday night at Moody
at eight o'clock. Hope to see everybody out there, Vic.
I appreciate the time. I'll look forward to seeing you
on Thursday. Thanks for joining us today well as always.

Speaker 2 (01:30:16):
Craig, appreciate the opportunity, appreciate all you do for all
right athletic department here at the University of Texas and
especially being there for women's basketball. So thanks for having
me on you'all have a great day. Raise the Lord Hugamorns.

Speaker 1 (01:30:29):
Thanks Vic. That is Texas women's head coach Vick Schaeffer
is team number five in the country now twenty and two,
six and one in the SEC. And the Missouri Tigers
will be in Thursday night eight o'clock. You can hear
that also on one oh three point one FM, Austin's
eighties station, coming your way beginning at seven forty five.
More coming up here on AM thirteen under the Zone.

Speaker 2 (01:31:02):
We're back.

Speaker 4 (01:31:03):
It's the Craig Way Show with Hall of Fame broadcaster
and voice of the Texas Longheards Craig Way.

Speaker 1 (01:31:11):
All right, thanks again the Texas women's head coach Vic
Shaeffer joining us there. That log warns take on the
Missouri Tigers on Thursday. I mentioned that they had three
games in six days. Two were on the road, one
was a neutral site. That was the one in Newark,
New Jersey, a week ago today. Then they had the
home game against Tennessee. Then they were back on the

(01:31:34):
road against Ole, miss They'll be home Thursday night and
that contest against Missouri at eight o'clock, and then they're
back on the road again. And I didn't even get
a chance to ask Bick about this. He probably wouldn't
have wanted to talk about it. Anyway. He's got his
team dialed in on getting ready for Missouri. But next
Sunday they're in College Station. They'll play Texas A and M.

(01:31:56):
And of course Vic has been a good part of
his developmental coaching career and experience working under Gary Blair.
They won a national championship there in twenty eleven. He
talked about the nineteen ninety eight Final fourteen they head
at Arkansas, but then at A and M they won
a national title in twenty eleven. So Vick was well liked,
and of course he is an alumnus of Texas A

(01:32:18):
and M. They'll play there Sunday afternoon at five o'clock
on that then they come back home to play Vanderbilts
and South Carolina back to back home games, and then
they've got at Kentucky LSU at home at Georgia, at
Mississippi State, and then conclude the regular season with Florida,

(01:32:39):
And really and truly, out of all of those remaining games,
there's really only two that you look at and say, yeah,
that's a team struggling that they're going to play one
of them's this week, Missouri. The other one is the
final game of the regular season against Florida. Every other
team is either ranked or tough to beat on their
home floor, like in the case of both Georgia and
Misissippi State, And then of course Vanderbilt is ranked A

(01:33:03):
and M rivalry gain South Carolina number two as we know,
and Kentucky, I think is twelve, and LSU is number
three in the countries or number five now in the country,
depending on which pole you're looking at. So anyway, tough
assignments there for Texas the rest of the way, but
they look really good right now twenty and two and
six and one in the SEC, tied for second place.

(01:33:24):
We'll be back to wrap up today's program here on
AM thirteen under the Zone
