On the voice of the Capitol RegionsSports Fan Fox Sports ninety five nine and
nine eighty eight Sleeping Tonight, I'mall around here. Didn't want to start
to sin. I get it righton the dot. She was fifty nine
fifty. I didn't get charged forthat. How dare you just head the

(00:26):
button? It's three hours. Idon't want to be three hours and five
seconds. Typical guy. I thinksfive seconds is a long time. All
right here, everybody, welcome tothe GT Toys Studio. That's Toys with
the Zeel, the backing guys.Day two of this three hour long show,
much like the the tour. Idon't want to do a Gilgau Island

(00:49):
joke. You're all too young forthat. So I'll just stop myself right
in there, starting to sound old. That's happening. That's the thing.
Beard's gray and making Gilgrin's Island references. Uh, three hour tour. I
noticed someone has changed my notes.I noticed that someone has taken what I
felt was the number one story ofthe day and moved it down to the
number two story. Actually, nowit's we moved down to the number three

(01:11):
story of the day. It's meyou you final listen how this single works.
Now I can edit in here tooand everything, because I finally realized
where I plan the show does notinvite you to help plan the show.
You you really think that's the biggerof the two? Do I think Yukon
winning the National championship last night hereon your home for the NCAA Tournament Fox

(01:34):
Sports ninety five, nine to ninetyback to back Dynasty? Do I think
that is bigger than a April Mondaywin for the New York Yankees during yesterday
during an eclipse. Yes, there'sa lot of the postpone the game because
of the eclipse. Did you forgetthat part? Maybe? Huh? All
right, Well, if you honestlydon't, I don't think it's bigger.

(01:56):
Here, I'm willing to hear yourcase. Why do you think the Yankees
are bigger than Yukon to leave theshow today? I mean, who makes
more money? Oh, you're rightthere. The Yankees' number one Vulpe going
off hip hip vulpey at a lotof things. I would say No,
I would say Yukon doing what theydid yesterday has not been done in eighteen

(02:17):
years back to back in Florida. That's right, the Florida Gators, Billy
Donovan, Jokima, Yakim Noah, however you want to pronounce that Jane the
y wherever you live, What doyou think he is right now? I
think he's hanging out, probably smokingpot, living life, telling people I
told you I had to jumper.I told you I could do it.
I told you could play in theleague. That was a dynasty. All

(02:38):
those guys came back to play forFlorida pre n IL and won another championship,
and they silenced theaters. The Yukonteams a little bit different. The
Yukon teams a mix of a bunchof guys who are gonna be pros,
but maybe you weren't the dominant players. There's no National Player of the Year,
there's no locked in number one draftpick overall. But in similar fashion

(03:00):
to the twenty twenty three Yukon Huskies, twenty twenty four dominated the NC double
it every game, double digit plusvictory. They four times led by thirty
points or more. This is flatout dominance. They dominated. This is
a dynasty a lot of times herein professional sports and college dynasty two years

(03:22):
Oh yeah, it's rare. It'sever happened back to back in college basketball
to change and the trend. I'lleven go this far. He's a budding
dynasty here you a word. Still, I think it's gonna be a long
time in basketball and football. Iwant to speak of any other sports but
basketball in football in particular, wherewe can see back to back champions because
of the nil, because of theportal, because of coaching. Shit,

(03:46):
it might be a long time tillwe see this again. Unless you're a
Connecticutoski fan and you're like, whynot next to your guys who says we
can't do three in a row withthe way this program is rolling, I
despise Yukon. And let me sayit one more time. If you missed
it when we lost our bracket challenge, I told you one of the brackets
came out. I want everything tohappen poorly to Yukon. I'm a Syracuse
basketball fan. We aar Syracuse basketballon this station, on our sisters station.

(04:09):
Guy, I have found myself nowin my mid thirties, finding the
team. The program I hate themost is Yukon basketball because the Orioles Georgetown
just sucks. Georgetown's terrible. Georgetown'sembarrassing. They stink. The Buccaneers not
a lot over the last twenty fiveyears. If they had true rivalry games
with the Falcons and Saints and Panthers. It doesn't feel that same way for

(04:30):
the Orioles. I'm certain to realizemaybe this is more of me than anyone
else in the selections I've had formy favorite teams. But Yukon's good.
This could have been me, LikeBill Murray and Space Channelovac is a Syracuse
pant fan. That could have beenme. Out there, Larry, watching
Jordan play for the Bulls, yourealize there's a It's an interesting guy to
bring up right now since his sonis on the Yukon coaching staff. Yeah.

(04:55):
Yeah, last year for it yep, I see, I'm a big
fan of Ukon. I picked himto win it all. I didn't do
great in the bracket challenge, Dinabeating you because I picked Yukon, I
believe. So, Yeah, whatwas the do we know the final?
It was because Quinn won the cForest wanted any challenge. Quinn is the
champion. I had Houston, Cantarahad Marquette. If you had Yukon,

(05:18):
you've more than likely locked in secondplace. I don't think Quinn caught you.
I did not look it up becauseQuinn was so far ahead of everybody.
He had yukon that would have bouncedout unless you produning your tune you
much. I believe you did not. Oh no, no, I will
double check your job. You saidit's the biggest story in the world,
and you didn't even check to seehow we did. No. No,

(05:40):
they Connecticut win the championship was thebiggest start. What I'm saying is that
we have the local tie to it. I'm got a big shout out to
our guy, Joe Lynch, bythe way, who on the Fox Sports
side of the bracket challenge. Shoutout to Joe. I don't know what
happened here. Pat McCormick is thechampion overall, So shout out to Pat.
Cindy Hayes second place, and thenJoe Lynch pal finishing in third place

(06:01):
representing Fox Sports. With that victory, I think I came in second in
the in the Sweet sixteen reset thanksto four smart energy. I think second.
All right, we got to makesure our Sweet sixteen. By the
way, if you are one ofour winners. If Joe was listening.
Pat. If Cindy you're listening,we will be contacting you later this month
for more details. We're hoping toget everybody together at one spot. We

(06:23):
all want a bit nice picture andall those good things. Yeah, we
want to get a picture with everybody. I think it'd be nice give their
stuff. They don't want to hangout with us. I'll tell you remember
all these people. They all showedup when we were hanging out of rivers,
when all these people that are involved, they were there. I mean,
I don't know Cindy or personally,but I assume you're being sarcastic.

(06:45):
Yeah, they weren't there. Theydon't want to hang out with us.
They just want the prizes. JoeLynch didn't want to hang out with this
when he had to hang out withus. Now he just wants They just
want their prizes. Just give himtheir price. I texted him at eleven
thirty at nine on it. That'swhy he doesn't want to hang out with
us. He's got he's got newerborns than you do. I think,
right, I think so? Yeah, Mac, I think you want the
Sweet sixteen challenge? You sure?I thought somebody on Picks being me it

(07:08):
says, oh you did win onthe fox side by yeh, you definitely
did that. Yeah, this andthat's the thing too. I want to
I want to be I want tobe very clear. I think the U
kind did an amazing job. Ithink Hurley's awesome. I love I love
the stuff he does. I lovehis soul. You get us Now that
was three years ago and now herewe are two straight wins. I love

(07:29):
all that. I love him laughingat everyone when they go, you get
what about Kentucky And he's like,no, that's not happening. I believe
he said, if I move anyfarther away from New Jersey, my wife
will divorced me. Uh. Ilove all of it. We have to
fix this bracket challenge. It wasa great contest, great everybody did great
jobs. Every U core in Greenwich. I whooped your ass. You owe

(07:49):
me you lost, But like,we gotta, we gotta streamline this thing.
It's gotta be prettier, all right, gotta get gotta get out of
the old corporate meetings there and justwhatever NERD built it, make sure they
integrate next time so that we canactually see who we're beating. Next year,
we will have Fox Sports representing throughtheir bracket website. We'll embed the

(08:09):
link to that so that change willhappen. Next year we'll have one big
Fox the final standings. Steve Malucci, by the way, is the winner
of the Week sixteen challenge. Thankyou, Steve. Beat you by one
point. And keep that in mind. I go through the rankings. Quinn
one, you finished in second.Cantera beat me by one point. You
came in last again fourth. I'dlike to say you came in last.

(08:30):
Didn't you just come in last inthe football thing? Yes? It did.
So that's two in a row,two in a row. Where'd you
come in the horse race? Second? Holy cow? One one yet?
Come on? I think what's gonnahappen. It's gonna be the year they
got Quinn three to six on FoxSports Radio. I'm gonna win them all
this year. I'm gonna go forthe triple crowd. I'm gonna win when

(08:52):
they all come back, I'm winningeverything. That's how it goes. Everyone's
got one meaning, I don't knowyou had a sixty five just by math,
you what sixty seven? What wasthe final number? It was unbelievable.
It was like sixty six percent. You would think just by math,
you'd hit like forty something this yearand even out fifty four, forty would
still beat you. Though I wasaround five hundred, So fourth place for

(09:16):
me I was, I was,go check the numbers. There's not beating
me a football. There was nineties in there. If there's there's certain
things that I will, I'll bevery humble about. But my knowledge of
wagering football is not on that list. I know what I'm doing. I
just then I'm stupid and I beteverything on the board because it's just like,

(09:37):
oh, who wants to just maketwo hundred dollars a week wagering?
That's no fun. Let's see ifwe can make up billion dollars this week
and up giving it all back.I've got a new strategy next year,
a new strategy. Wait till Ipick and no, no, no,
maybe I shouldn't always do fiveteen parlots. I'm gonna find a new way the
money. I guess for like twoto five bucks on something like that,

(10:00):
and then just did that was youronly Here's here's what I think, Okay,
and then we might have to getDrew Prescott in here to talk to
me about my money. I thinkthat if you have, you have to
set your budget because you're your wageringmoney has to come out of your fun
budget. You cannot come out ofgroceries, it can't come out of gas
or rent or mortgage. It's gottacome out of your fun budget. So
once you said it, and you'relike, let's say you have fifty bucks

(10:22):
a week to wager. Okay,if you do like the significant amount of
that only on your favorite bets, and then you save like five to ten
for your crazy bet, that's okay, But don't go crazy crazy with the
crazy bet. Let's say a sponsorgives us ten dollars per week okay in
the minimum bets five okay, andyou finished fourth this season before, Okay,

(10:46):
there are new ways in which wecan develop my strategy. That's what
I'll say. So sure, doyou know what two fourth place finishes?
I'm coming back confidence to get.I'm like the u CU you know what,
look like You've just inspired me.I'm gonna give a damn Hurley speech
before this year's competition. Who youlistening right now to Quinning? Maybe I'll
come on quitting Cantara and you'll beactually one morning and I'll do it.

(11:07):
I'll declare beat us up now.Hear me, beat up guys now in
April of twenty twenty four, becauseyou don't want to see the comeback.
I'm about to go through three straightvictories and our challenges come back. As
long as Big Al comes off vacationand sells them. That's a big party.
You're not gonna beat me. Youcan't. You can't beat me that

(11:28):
you'll beat me a horse racing.I'll be ready. I'll be ready this
season, however I handle my funmoney. C four hopefully will be involved,
Agan, thank you. Everybody canparticipate it. I want you kin
to be done enough. I wantthis to be a peak of Yukon.
Oh God, Hurley's gonna keep itrelevant for a very long time. I
think that's like you say they area dynasty. I think they're on the

(11:48):
cusp of being one. I thinkwe'll be calling them a dynasty for most
of next season. I don't knowif they'll win three straight national championships.
I don't even know if that's everbeen done. That's how much I don't
I don't watch college basketball, butlike I think there'll there'll be a point
during the season next year where they'reyou know, twenty and one, and
everybody's gonna go, this is alegit dynasty. This is what's up because

(12:15):
he's got everybody playing defense, He'sgot everybody. They play with a toughness.
He he is the one coach rightnow. You know how we go
own a room sometimes where people willgo, how do you get away with
saying what you say? Jeff, that's hurly. Right now, he can
go into a room and he canyell at these players and they like it.
They're okay with it. He's theone coach in collegiate collegiate athletics who

(12:37):
can still yell at student athletes.I would say, yeah, Curley,
he's nuts, he's out of hismind, but it's responding, it's working.
Yukon values basketball, and I knowthat statement sounds odd, like yeah,
guys, obviously they want to backback shape, but most colleges value
football where the money goes and howthey create revenue and everything else. Yukon

(12:58):
football stinks. They've given up.They're like, this is how we're gonna
be popular, both men and women. By the way, like it is
a basketball school a minute, Likewhen I was younger, they were good
for like a minute. Yukon football, they got to an Orange Bowl I
think in like the two thousands, and because of that big U shake up
in everything. That doesn't mean you'regood just because you did what Syracuse does
all the time. Orrigeball, that'sa big deal. Florida six oh seven,

(13:20):
Duke ninety one, ninety two.And if you really want to talk
about a dynasty, Ucla John Woodensixty seven to seventy three, just ripping
off all the championships only eight timesin college basketball men's side as a school
won back to back championships. Ifeel like the UNLV running Rebels should be
in that mix too, like theyreally dominated college basketball. We saw Gonzaga
losing the title. Keey undefeated,Bob Knights, Indiana team the last team

(13:43):
to finish a season undefeated on themen's side. This is a dynasty and
I hate it. As a Syracusefan, I want it to end.
Enough enough Yukon talk. I almosteven wanted to lead with the Yankees guys
done with Hurley and Yukon. Idespise them more than anybody in sports.
Now I hate it. Well,it's listen, it's fun to want you
can't. How can you hate Hurly? He's fun? How can you hate

(14:05):
Bill Murray being part of the celebration? Howy? I mean, I'm fine
with Bill Murray, but hurt cryingbig, raining on people. Poor guy
eight feet tall, just crying tears. Every thought was raining inside the arena.
It's crazy. You get the guya shot in the NBA. I
know he's slow to get a shot. He's not gonna get anywhere with it.

(14:26):
He's so big hit is look whatthirty seven points? He he he
serves a purpose, but like youjust gotta leave him down? Do you
leave him down on the offensive sideof the court? Is cherry pick it
like it's a rec league? LikeI don't run down? Yeah, we're
good. We can play four onfive defense. We're okay. You stay
there, we'll throw you the ballon a second. Him and DJ Burns

(14:48):
like one team's gonna do it forboth of them on the same roster three
on five. I want to see, like if you told, if you
told me, right your roster set, You've got your starting five, you
have your first two off the bench, you know exactly who there are.
You feel good about it? Secondround? I want I want Burns.
I just can you imagine. Ifeel like that dude is just having a

(15:11):
blast and farting on the sideline everygame, like he's just over there like,
ah, that's a great day tobe a live and popcorn. Hang
my boys, I'm making this declaration, this promise right now. If there
are two teams who would actually makethis work and be funny and have it
actually like be successful, it wouldbe the Thunder or the Magic. The
Magic because there has been times thisseason the Magic have trotted out four six

(15:33):
ten plus guys in the court. So if you get the skinny six ten
guy, then you get Burns atEddie off the bench, like that could
work. Or the Thunder because theThunder have so many draft picks, and
the Thunder have home grin and he'shuge, and they have SGA and they
have big guys down low where theskinny ball handle. They have so many
picks they could just blow it onEdie and Burns and be like, just

(15:54):
come off the bench. So let'sget them on the same team. Magic
Thunder, Well, that guy willcome in you for Burns and eat.
We'll rock Their uniforms guaranteed to bepart of the plans. No matter what
your record is, you get tobe part of that last plan, all
right, you know, because you'regonna burn those two picks. You're not

(16:14):
gonna be competitive. You're not gonnabe like all of a sudden zions over
there going wow, these guys arekind of fat and slow. I don't
know what's going on here. Likeyou got we have to guarantee them into
the plan. Every year, someburof the Thunder, Like we got it.
Okay, we got fifteen picks thenext seven years. We're already one
of the top teams in the West. Here's our next three picks to sell
tickets. Seven foot four Zach eatbig Man, DJ Burns, and we're

(16:37):
gonna use one on Caitlyn Clark. We're gonna use those are our picks.
But tell us we can't think aboutthis right. So, at one point
in history, the Thunder had DurantHarden and and uh Westbrook. Yeah,
and now we've got them where we'vereimagined them into like sideshow freaks. Just

(16:59):
like whoever that dude's really tall withthe unibrow, put a Thunder jersey on
him. Okay, what about thisdude? He is a big, bad
man who can box out. Caneither of them get basket to basket in
a fast break, No, nochance, not at all. Bring a
man, come on, thunder themup. Let's go. You know,
Villanova won two championships in three seasons. I believe it is the staff for
the Wildcats and the Nick's just draftedall Villanova guys. If you're a Hawks

(17:22):
fan, Wizards a team, Pistons, just take all the Yukon guys.
It seems to work. I mean, look at they know each other like
there's something to be said for it. It's it's the same as like the
one and done's. It's very difficultto coach at a college level. Guys
play together two three years, allof a sudden, they really understand each
other. Like we were just talkingto coach Rowland from the Batroons last week.
He said flat out, like, dude, this is the first one.

(17:45):
We've got six guys coming back. That doesn't happen in this league.
I know, I know a coachlocally who likes to bring back special players
himself, and we can talk tohim in a second. Before we do
that, before we call our ourgood friend Damon Ware, Let's let's talk
about USX Pest Control. Yeah, the USX Past Control Platinum package. Remember

(18:07):
are you right now? Look atthe beautiful weather in the Capitol Region.
I busted out the short of that, busted out the new airmaxs. Today,
I'm feeling summer. I'm feeling springright now. Hopefully you have that
same feeling. If you're spending sometime outside. Maybe you've somehow taken a
four day vacation because of the eclipse. You know who you are, MIC
and Sales get ready to make sureyour home is safe. You some of

(18:27):
that time ah your home and makesure you've set that platinum package. You've
signed up, You've gotten the freeinspection and more for USX Past Control.
Absolutely so for me, I havethe non chemical Exclusion package. They went
around my house. They sealed upall the little cracks, crevices and everything
like that, because if they can'tget in, they'll never be in.
That's how it is. But rightnow the most important thing to do is

(18:48):

You're right, you're right, joiningus right now? He is the
head coach of the Albany Firebirds atDamon. Where Damon we got coach coach,
we got camp going on. How'severything looking. What do you see
so far? Just great to havethe guys here. This is just my

(23:41):
favorite time of year. It's acrazy time, but a lot of moving
parts. It's so fun is tohave the guys here and meeting and practicing
and getting to know the kids fromall over the country. So super exciting
time. Coach. The other nightwe had the welcome dinner, and I
felt that there was very mature group, like they all feel like they got

(24:02):
a veteran attitude to them already.Uh, definitely. We brought back a
lot of key veterans and key positionswhere we needed the maturity and those guys,
Uh, the way they lead byexample, that that rubs off on
the younger guys. And so Ithink the blend of older and younger that
we put together, uh, isgonna be great this season. When we

(24:26):
we the veterans and all that funstuff, it always seems like it's it's
it's guys sometimes hold on a littlelonger they should, and then other guys
seem to walk away a little fasterthey showed. There's always that weird conversation.
I heard something I never thought Ihear today, coach, wherein I'm
I'm I'm ratting right now. I'mjust completely I'm running. I'm telling dad.
Uh, Darius Prince said he fellold today. What do we do

(24:47):
about this? Yeah he did saythat, but uh, one shot at
tequila and he's young again. Justimagine some water just got something different in
there. Coach, do you findthis part of the season the most exciting?
I think people don't realize that youprep for a roster, that this

(25:10):
can be some of the most stressfultimes for coaches because you find this roster
of talented guys. You find thiscamp of talented guys, and all of
a sudden, like, how dowe figure out how to manage the situation,
how to set a game plan withthese guys who are competing. Yeah,
I mean it's a truly stressful time, but it's just so fun.
I Mean, it's the beginning footballseason just starts. We've chopped at the

(25:32):
bid all off season to be onthe field, and so that chaos is
just a warm and welcoming feeling. And so it's very stressful I mean,
you're bringing in thirty five guys totry to pick twenty four guys to help
us win a championship, all withdiverse backgrounds, diverse learning structures, diversity
and where they've played football, andyou're trying to put it all together and
make it perfect, and that isquite stressful. But like I said,

(25:56):
this is just my absolutely favorite timeof the year. I have no problem
going through the stress, walking aroundlike a zombie, drinking or spots of
coffee every day. It is theabsolute most fun of the whole season.
So I'm excited and I hope ourguys are having a good time as well.
Kind of jealous of the guys rightnow. Coach where of the Albany
Firebirds who typically we'll both start ourday in the same building, but coaches

(26:21):
all over the place running practices, running team meetings. You know, what
was it? A get in whereyou fit in? Like it? Do
you? How are you staying organizedwhile you have like three offices right now?
It's tough, I'll definitely tell youthat much. It's h is tough
being all over the place. Sowhen you use that line being spread thin,

(26:42):
yeah, I'm spread pretty thin. But like I said, It just
takes some time. Management just takesbeing organized and making sure that you know,
I don't leave something I need atone place when I need it at
the other, And so I makea lot of strips back and forth between
all the locations just to make sure. And you know, the other morning,
I jumped up at four point thirtywent to the office for a little

(27:03):
bit just to start my day inthe office before I headed out to our
coaches meeting. So you know,it's difficult, but like I said,
I love this time and I don'twhatever I got to do to make it
work, that's what we're gonna do. We've heard over the past five to
ten years, whether it's the NFLchanging the rules of how camp is structured,
whether it's college football or college basketball, about how much time you're allowed

(27:26):
to spend with a player in season, off season, game season. This
is a completely new league. Whatare the league limitations at all? Of
Okay, we get X amount oftime with the guys. Is that being
learned on the fly? Take usthrough the most things you're learning as a
staff when you're communicating with your roster, you know, the cool partners.
We don't have all the restrictions maybesome other levels. You were able to

(27:48):
open camp on April to first, and there's no real time restriction from there.
So, you know, like Isaid, today, with everything that's
going on and we have an officialsmeeting today, I had to break our
meeting in half. I'm gonna, you know, head it to the office
right now. I'm gonna turn aroundand a little bit, go right back
and hold a second meeting today. And so again it's that, you know,

(28:11):
in that regard, it's great thatwe don't have those restrictions because there's
some days that are just crazy liketoday, where I just need more time
with them, and you know, especially with the film and you know a
lot of new guys, it's it'sthere. You know, there's a step
learning curve at the beginning, andso the more time I can spend with
them during camp, the better. And so yeah, I'll run back and
have another meeting today and you know, finish the day late as usual.

(28:33):
I have no problem with that.As I tell my players, I'm you
know, camp time is all foryou guys. If I need to work
from four o'clock in the morning toten o'clock at night, you know,
I'm more than happy to do sowell. Right now, Fox Sports Radio
ninety five, nine nine eighty,we're joined by head coach of the Albney
Firebers, Damon Ware. And nowyou mentioned the officials meeting today. I

(28:53):
got to be out a little bitof it, and at first I was
like, I don't know, Idon't know why I'm here, like whatever,
But I will say the head ofofficials for the AFL seems like a
no nonsense kind of dude, andI feel like his critiques of certain things
kind of echoed ours. I reallylike the head of officials right now for
this league. Yeah, the meetingwas good, and you know, he's

(29:17):
an experience official, being a bigtwelve officials, So in that regard,
he's experienced. He's been around thegame and been on rules committees and those
kind of things. So in thatregard, you know, the problem is
just we have, you know, with with bringing back the AFL. There's
a lot of us that are veryin tune with the AFL rules, and
then there's a blend of those guysthat aren't. And I just, you

(29:38):
know, and I said, Idon't want to have to kind of lean
towards these guys that don't know itand change rules to make it easier.
You know what, The Arena FootballLeague has been around a long time.
They never tweaked the rules too toomuch. I'd like to stay with the
true arena rules. I don't likedoing any you know, a bunch of
side rules and those kinds of things. Let's keep it what make the game

(30:00):
great, and let's move forward fromthere. There's always going to be a
learning curve and and I know,as a head coach, I'm very good
with talking with the officials do outthe course of the game. I'm not
I'm not gonna scream and yell atthese guys. You know, some of
them have a very limited time tostudy the rules, and so again there's
times for just a conversation and thenyou know what, Yep, I think

(30:21):
you're right there and we can getthrough those things. And so, you
know, I just don't want toalter any rules or any of those kind
of things to make it easier forsome and make it more difficult for others
that know the rules. So it'salways an interesting process when you get those
full meetings with all the coaches andofficials and things. But let's just all
I can say is let's keep itthe true arenaform and let's get ready to

(30:41):
rumble. Can't wait for NFL NetworkApril twenty seven. Fans know this that
they're going to support usually the callsthat go in favor of the Firebirds and
maybe boo the officials, they goget that's the I though, like that's
being a fan of that, supportingthe team and all those things. But
I think we can't underestimate what thatmeaning was today for you and and everybody
who's the part of this that ifthose rules are adjusting, Coach, I

(31:03):
don't think it's crazy to think thatlike that truly affects who stays on the
team. Like if you have arule that benefits one type of player,
to rule that benefits another, thatcould really shake up potentially rosters across the
league. And that's true. Andyou know that we have a duty to
the officials as well. They areyou know a lot of very good officials.
We have a lot of high levelpower five officials, and so you

(31:26):
know, we do got to thinkof them sometimes on what's easiest for them
to officiate a game and those typeof things. And and but there's always
that fine line of the game beinga true game the way it is and
trying to adjust it too much tomake it easier. In the NFL and
NCAA go through these rule changes allthe time, and you know, for

(31:47):
our game, it's it's it's avery unique game, and so I hate
to kind of compare it to tolike the NFL, where you know,
there's a lot of moving parts. Our game is unique, and let's just
keep it unique and not try tochange too many rules every year because the
NFL and nc DOUBLEA changes a lot, and so I'm just a purist.

(32:07):
I'd rather keep it as pure aspossible. Yes, there's always room to
you know, tweak a couple ofthings to make it easier for the officials,
but ultimately we want to keep thegame intact. And that's that's what's
most important to me. It's thelove of the game, love of the
guys, and that's that's why welove our head coach, Damon Ware.
I appreciate you making time. Iknow you're super busy. Like I said,
you got meetings in one building andI practice another building, and then

(32:30):
you got the office at the arenaand it's crazy. I had a meetsday.
Coach I'm trying to streamline as muchas I can for you, but
you're just gonna have to keep doingthat delicate dance you do so well.
Hey, I appreciate it in anyhelp that you give. I'm always appreciative
of it, and I don't care. Like I said, right now is
my time. I'll walk around likea zombie and go between three buildings.

(32:51):
It's okay. Just once a gameweek starts, obviously, that's when I
need my little bit of peaceful timeand be in one spot and be in
the office and get ready for thisfirst game. I'm you know, it's
just such an important game. Therebrand, uh, just being put back
a part of the AFL, andthe fact that we play the Orlando Predators,
those were so many great reasons beingon NFL Network that I just want

(33:14):
to make this first game just athing of beauty and make our fans happy
that we did the rebrand. Well, we're happy to have you. We
know you're putting everything you cut intoit. Coach, where we appreciate you.
Everybody, get your tickets. Apriltwenty seventh is coming real, real
fast. Don't miss out on thisone, and Coach, I'll hopefully see
at one of the locations tomorrow. It sounds good, I'll see you soon.

(33:35):
There he goes Coach David, wherehe's he's the man was like in
all sincerity, like, I'm I'mat the arena this morning, and I'm
kind of going through some stuff andmaking sure I got everything I need.
We gotta get the guys fed,we gotta do this, we gotta do
this, do this. And I'mlike, so I call to talk to
coach. He's not He's not there. Where's he's Oh, he's here,

(33:58):
he's there, he's there. AndI end up seeing Coach Hollis on the
roadway instead before I ever find Coachwhere And we're talking each other while we're
driving. Where are you going? Are you guys on your way over there?
Now? Oh, Coach will beokay, cool, Like it's it's
he's the guy's working so hard toget this thing right. I gotta make
sure I'm careful with this because Iknow how the real chance goes. But
that was very Roy Kent, likefrom Ted Lasso. He's here, he's
there, He's everywhere. Dam Yeah, that's right, It actually right,

(34:22):
he's everywhere anywhere. I thought therewas a favorite there careful, Okay,
there is. I'm just you know, I'm a professional here. No,
it's it's just he is the dialedin this like and I didn't. I
don't want to do this. Ialmost don't want to do this at all,
but I do think it's it's worthyof being mentioned that he is.

(34:44):
He has been in a very successfulhead coach. We here have seen him
be very successful as the assistant headcoach. His chance to be the head
coach was robbed from him last yearand his chance to help another team win
a title. They didn't listen tohis expertise. In my opinion, I
speaking for myself, I'm not speakingfor anyone else, So knowing how talented

(35:07):
and intelligent coach Ware is, I'mthrilled to see him get his all many
chance to be the head coach,to be supported by ownership like like he
should have been last year, nomatter who was in that chair, and
go get it, just go getit. And just if rivalries are personal,

(35:30):
Firebirds Predator is a very personal rivalry. This is why coach where,
by the way, don't you're notYou're in here for another two and a
half hours. I got some questionsabout that meeting. You're not. We're
not off the hook on that meeting. I think we left the meat on
the bone there. But coach whereI need him When he finishes these interviews
down for the rest of the season, I want to, like something catchy
at the end, go birds.Maybe go birds to each other like birds,

(35:51):
go tigers. Coach Oh, ofcourse, go Saints, Coach Jacks
when she's the coach the women's Soyou know how we own we you know
we own the coaches show flock youYeah, I'll leave it. I'll leave
that to your guys. Show youguys could do that. What about burn
Baby Burn, Disco Inferno could dothat? Maybe? No? I,
like I said, usually, oh, I got one. He and I

(36:14):
when we're writing something each other uslike go birds. We'll put at the
end. Think about this. CoachWare's moment was supposed to be last season,
but because of an evil villain,he didn't get to finish the story.
Now he comes back this year tofinish the story. Think about that
Levic that's original. So think aboutfinish the stories potentially, how we close

(36:34):
it out. Do you want totalk wrestling next? No? No,
no, I really want to talkabout that meeting. We got a few
minutes here, so coach ware andyou referenced some meeting today. I watched
the meeting. I really wanted toturn on these microphones in here, but
I have some respect. I wantedto get like zoomed into this. I
really wanted to So this meaning we'retalking about the rules are being set for
the league this month. The kickoffis in a few weeks. I think

(36:59):
that was a very fair question toask coach about. Yeah, so what
about He opened the door for agood way for me to answer. You're
what you're trying to do. Whatyou're trying to Yeah, you might get
find if he says something about theofficials. I have to tell you that
you know obviously obviously coach where isin a position where he knows he airs
on the side of caution. Hedoesn't say things that he doesn't have to

(37:20):
say. The economy of words. He's very smart, you know the old
saying it's better to be thought offool than open your mouth and remove all
doubt. You're very rarely and usuallyit takes quite a bit of alcohol to
get him to comment on something he'snot sure what he's comedy on and that's
I've only seen that like after championshipsor like, you know whatever. So

(37:42):
the new AFL is made up ofsome heritage teams like ourselves the Predators.
West Texas is an NAL team, and the NAL ultimately grew into the AFL
rules. We're using pretty much theAFL rules with a couple of modifications for
safe and whatnot. There's other leaguesthat have The teams came and joined this

(38:05):
league to form the AFL. Theyplayed more of an indoor brand of football.
So indoor brand, as coach Tolistbefore, is based on Canadian football.
So the defense was placed different. You got two men in high motion.
There's a couple other differences. Theydon't play iron man. They don't
they don't. They don't do thesame substitutions. But arena you play iron
man. You have the mac,the jack linebacker, certain rules, one

(38:28):
man high motion. It's a veryspecific game. The rule book as being
adapted. They tried to pull someof those other rules in from the other
league, and they kind of contradictsome of the original like the arena rules
in a in a way like whenyou really get into them, and the
head of officials is very clear, like, hey, there's gonna be some

(38:49):
streamlining going on, like because asI look at this book, it's not
fair to put it out there theway it is, like it's it's it's
good, but at the same timeit needs to be streamlined. Kind of
thing we compare. That's not exactlyhow you said, no, no,
no, I understood what you meantand hopey, no nonsense. I will
tell you that that dude's real.I like that guy. Hopefully you listening.
If you're a fan of Capital Regionsports, supporting a local team,
all of those things, that isimpactful because I think this is very fair

(39:14):
to have this happen. If yousupported the Albany Empire, if you supported
the Firebirds in the past, allgreat things, but like a very fair
criticism of what happened for we'll callit the relaunch of the Albany Empire in
twenty twenty one. That game,in particular, that first home game,
what really took away a little bitof the buzz. Nothing you did,

(39:35):
nothing the athletes did on the field, nothing might court it did. But
if there was one big criticism youheard from fans and I heard from fans,
is that the constant stoppage in thegame was hurting the product, like
the game was so even twenty twowhen they brought back Arena thank you.
Yeah. Twenty one we played moreof an indoor brand of that we had
full substance. There was a gI could have sworn it was twenty twenty

(39:55):
one where there was a game wherethis like the Empire gone away and they'd
come back and then nobody knew therules. I think about Iron Man.
Maybe that's what it was. Butlike the game, the game was constantly
stopped and back and forth and backand like everyone's like, what is going
on? What is this clipboard?I remember being saying Andrew Saintilla, we're
calling the game. We're like,if we see this clipboard again, we

(40:16):
know it's bad news. We knowthis is stoppage playing. And I bring
all that up because I don't wantthat to happen for the Fibers. I
hope all this is ironed out beforethe first game, because I know the
fans care about it. I knowthe fans want to see it. I
don't want things like this that youcan't control. Coach can't control, my
Corda, can't control to be astoryline in that game. I want it

(40:37):
to be just about football and justabout the capitol reieds. So hopefully this
is all done. I know youmentioned streamlining there, but like, well,
if you need a fake game ora scrimmage or something, I don't
want this to take away from theproduct that could potentially be on the field
in three weeks. The things thatwere more it was more verbage. It
wasn't really I don't because again, remember these these guys have coached arena like

(40:58):
the majority of them coach arena. The ones who haven't coach. Ware has
made himself available in the offseason tokind of talk guys through it. The
most important thing that I've learned aboutarena football, iron man football, is
don't overthink it. That's the mostimportant thing I've learned, because in going
into twenty two, we had ahead coach who said, I played it,

(41:22):
I've coached it, I know moreabout it than anybody. Then we
got out there and we got wegot our bots kicked for a couple of
games because we weren't up to speedon how to substitute. Realistically speaking,
the way you do it the rightway is you have your starters and then
you have your B starters. Soyou basically have two groups of starters.

(41:43):
So your first group of starters goesout, they play when they need to
come out. The other group ofstarters come in, and then you rotate
through as you go. So it'sa very it's don't overthink it, keep
it simple, stupid, and you'llbe all right. Now. Hopefully no
one's listening to Nashville or Orlando oranywhere else in those others. But no,
no, no, that was justthe vac's thing he had learned.

(42:04):
Coach Ware won't be doing that forany of these games. No, that's
that's what I've heard throughout like theleague, you know what I mean,
like everybody who There was a pointwhere I was asked to order wristbands,
all wristbands, different colors so hecould keep track of the coach at that
time what group was, what group. But it hasn't worked that way because
if you start a quarter, Ican pull you out and put you back

(42:27):
in one time in a quarter. If you if you are the substitute that
goes in that quarter, once you'reout, you're gone, you're burned.
So like you can't it doesn't reallywork that way. So it was just
it again. You're confident this isgonna be ironed out before the first game.
It sounds like you are. I'mlisten. Have you met coach where
coach whar is gonna listen? Thisis gonna be Coach war is gonna have

(42:49):
this under control. Everything is good. A lot of these guys have Arena
League experience, so we're we're it'sAnd if you could, if you could
have met the group, I don'tknow how you cut eleven of these guys.
I just don't know how you doit. Every one of them has
got a pedigree. Every one ofthem has got a story. Every one
of them is physically intimidating in someway, shape or form. Even the

(43:12):
little guys, look, they're justgonna run up and run you over.
You know what I mean. It'sit's it's a great group he's got.
And if you if you look atour social media, all many firebirds.
If you go look at it,there's one that like Haig's flexing and sw
is Trademon Shorts. Trevon Shorts haslike a fifteen pack. I just got
like it's not even even number ofapps. It's just NonStop. It's abs
for days. I was eating chickenwings when I saw that photo with their

(43:36):
shirts off, and I'm like, dude, that's not fair. I just
finished fair. I look at pictureslike that and go, yeah, sure
he looks good, but does heknow how good these wings taste? I
don't think so. No, that'sa yeah, learn learn, learn you
something. No, it's it's good. Like I've said this for for weeks
and months now, the roster isthe least of my work, the NFL

(44:00):
network coming in and going, we'rerunning a tight ship, and we're doing
some other stuff that scares me alittle bit. That makes me nervous.
You know how good the other teamscould possibly be. I'm always I'm always
aware of that. But I dofully believe. You know, if if
you just based it on the talenton the team, and obviously there's you
know, any given Sunday or Saturdayevening for the most part, if you

(44:22):
just based a we're we are thefavorites to win it all. We are
the thing you could you could dropus in almost every league right now.
We'll be able to win it.The only thing is, like, like
you had a great point, we'dhave to make different cuts to play indoor
versus the cuts you have to makethe play arena. We are getting closer
and closer to kick off of thetwenty twenty four Albany Firebirds season. I

(44:44):
just mentioned eating chicken wings and oh, hang it out with my shirt off.
My wife grabbed me dinner last week? Oh did it was a better
story first? Oh? My wifegrabbed me last night? Lily Chicken?
Where Lily and David? Fine, you loses the place. I was talking
to our boss Chris Marino today.I said, my wife's birthday is on
Friday, and she said, well, what are you gonna get her?
And I said, Chris, Ithink your connection is breaking up. We

(45:06):
gotta go man. Then he goes, what about Lillian David? I said,
yeah, Living David find Julius isvery possible. Uh, everybody over

Lovak and gaze on the Voice ofthe Capitol Regions sports fan Fox Sports ninety
five, nine and nine eighty.Did you ever every once in a while
I see a like these moves inthe NFL, and they stick with me
for a minute. I have tokind of put it together why it's happened
the way it's happening, like theJets signing Cassan Reddick, Like, how

(48:46):
how do the Eagles let that dudego? Like he he is? He's
a game wrecker, Like when hegets going and you know, maybe maybe
he's on the back nine and theydidn't want to take care of him anymore.
They want to pay and they thoughthe was done. But adding him
to that Jets already stout defense isscary. I wonder about players like him,

(49:07):
where if you're watching the games oryou're consuming the product, you're looking
at this and you're like, noone's gonna argue he's not good. Everyone
knows the impact he can have.Is it just financially. Here's what I
believe. Here's my theory on this. We always get distracted as fans and
people who cover the sport, thinkingabout, Okay, what's the big move
you can make. If you dothis and this, you can get this

(49:28):
person. If you make this movein that move, you can open up
cap space for a big time playmaker. I think what we don't do sometimes
is the opposite of Okay, ifthese three moves are made, someone's gonna
be a casualty of that move.If we do the move now, we
can do a move in two years. Like it really feels like chess when
you're moving all these pieces around. That's the only thing I can think of,

(49:50):
because he's so good, He's suchan impact player. He's one of
the rare players of the league whereyou can look around and say, like,
who of the thirty two teams wouldn'twant him? Oh, the team
that just cut him or got ridof them are moved on from him.
Well, this doesn't make it sense. I would have to assume it's a
bigger plan involving him with the teamthat now says bye bye see ya.

(50:12):
Or is it simply we gave waytoo much money on our running back.
Now we're gonna make some cuts. Can't keep everybody. I guess that's kind
of what I said. Yeah, like a kid accommodation of that. You
know what the future is going tobe if if the guys he's signed for
an investment hit, someone's got tobe a casualty. That's right, man.
I just I see that he cameout with the same thing. We
got dogs at every level and theydo that defense is ridiculously frightening. But

(50:37):
the one that the move that I'mreally kind of focused on because I feel
like it has a chance to reallyreally bear fruit. Is the Giants doing
another one year deal with Isaiah Simmons. So remember when he came out of
the draft, he was just thisfreak athlete, like he was a linebacker,

(50:57):
but but he's faster than the safetiesand some of the corners. He
he was you know, safety linebackersize, but he could bench with the
defensive lineman. He was going torevolutionize football on how people drapt because he
could do it all. He wasthat exactly almost like it again, where
like the linebacker position was gonna beso much about speed. George is a
great example. No it's really asafety. No, it's really a corner.

(51:21):
No no, No, he's IsaiahSimmons. He could do all this
stuff and he's gonna make these hugeplaces on defense. So I thought when
they were able to grab him fromArizona last year, I really thought that
was the you know, within Martindalewas this is the piece that's gonna make
his defense special and here we go, and then I'm like I almost forgot

(51:43):
that he wasn't that effective, mainlybecause they still kind of seem to want
to like Okay, you're a linebacker. You know, you're a safety,
you know, you're you're this,you're that, you're that, you're you're
an end rusher, you're like whatever, you're all these things. When they
resign him again this year with anew defensive coordinator, with new systems in
place, and he took a oneyear deal, Now I get it again.

(52:04):
He hasn't blown the league up theway we thought he might with his
with his physical abilities. But likefor him to take a one year deal
still with the Giants new pieces inplace, I think there's a chance he
just erupts this year. He's stillyoung. He's mid twenties, right,
I think he's like twenty five.He is an example of somebody, you
know, the Giant fan knows this, and you know this, let because

(52:25):
you're a Michigan fan. I thinkgot about a guy like Jabrill Peppers.
Now, Jabrill Peppers isn't as bigas Isaiah Simmons, like physically as big.
Now Peppers might be a bigger namebecause of the national headlines he made
and what he did in Michigan, where he played a bunch of different positions.
But this is a great example ofthe separation between college and professional because

(52:45):
Jabrill Peppers Percy Harvin at Florida isa great example of this, where he's
such a freak athlete. You aresuch a football player that you can just
be flat out better than other peopleat different positions because you're quicker, fast,
or more athletic, bigger, stronger, all that stuff all of a
sudden when you get to the professionallevel, there are skill sets involved.

(53:07):
Why are you a better run blockerthan a pass blocker. Why are you
a better route runner than a deepball player? You could break down all
these like real it kind of comesIt's great we came off this interview with
coach where because that kind of goesto that conversation of like why could a
player be really good at arena football, indoor football, in outdoor football.
Well that's what coaches and gms atthose levels figure out what do they do

(53:30):
better? And it goes to this, like Isaiah Simmons, we all agree,
he's fast, he's strong, hecan make plays. Why hasn't he
broken through? Maybe you have tobe great at something at the pro level.
Draymond green Wright, he says, this is the NBA. Find what
you're great at and you'll have along career. Don't be really good at
four things. They can find somebodygreat at one of those four things to
take your spot. Okay, Ithink so basically what you're saying is like,

(53:52):
hey, lear, learn to bethe best coverage linebacker in the league
because you're so fast, or learnto be the best hard hitting state because
you're so big and so fast.Yeah. I was a huge fan of
Simmons. I still think he's agood player at the problem is, I'm
not as confident in you and maybeother Giants fans in the sense you Giants
fan, you're a Raider fan.I have I dabble. Yeah, you
know what I mean by this thatLike, I don't know if he could

(54:13):
be great, Like I could probablyfind a better pass rusher. I could
probably find a better cover linebacker. Can a new defensive coordinator find how this
works? That's a question. That'sa that's a big storyline heading into camp
for the Giants, you know. But here's here's the I guess the other
side of that. It's it's it'sa similar statement to the one you're making,
but I'm changing who's responsible. So, like, basically, I feel

(54:35):
like when you say that the responsibilitygoes to Simmons, figure out what you're
good at in this game and godo that. What if it goes to
Shane Bowen, the new defensive coordinator, figure out a way to utilize this
insane amount of talent and use itright like because obviously, like like you
said, somebody's gonna cover, somebody'sgonna block, somebody's gonna tackle, somebody's

(54:59):
got do all these things. Somebody'sgotta cover the tight ends? Like is
that him? Because Matt Mlano isgonna make a lot of money in this
league because as far as linebackers go, he might be the best cover linebacker
in the league at the moment. He when he's healthy for the Bills,
they look a hell of a lotbetter against Kansas City and Baltimore and everybody

(55:21):
else because you can put him oneon one or maybe a little over the
top help and he can keep atrack on. I say, Simmons,
like, if you like, hey, do you want to be special?
Because we're in a league right nowwhere Samuela Porta and all these other tight
ends are trying to come out andthey're special. You if you become known
as the guy who just takes specialtight ends out of the game. You're

(55:43):
write your check. How much doyou want? You're twenty five years old,
Issaiah Simmons. You ready for thatand the Giant fans ready for it?
Can you pull it off? Cannahave a one year wonder? Is
a lot Levak? A lot canstill come from that. I'm excited.
I'm excited if you're a Giant fanto find out the expectation of what that
player could be, even though I'mnot as confident. If he's a stand
up player, why can't that bethe difference between a potential playoff spot in

(56:06):
a third place and a fourth placespot. A playmaker, a guy who
could rekavoc. That's why can't Giantfinn think that could be the potential difference
between this defense next season. Ithink it's definitely possible. Yeah, I'm
I'm into it. I just it'sone of those guys you keep an eye
on, like he's stuck out becauseof the way he played, because of
the way he played at college, because the way he ran the combine was

(56:28):
was insane to me. Like there'sthere's beliefs out there that the guys,
the way they train to run thecombine and do all the things that they
do in the combine is so counterproductiveto the way you actually do things.
Like they train you to run theforty in a certain number of steps,
not how fast you can go.And I want to if you can do
it in nine steps or whatever, you know what I mean, Like,

(56:51):
it's obviously more than that. Butit's like you have three steps to be
upright. By the time you're upright, you should be moving full on,
and it's like six or seven moresteps or something. It's like ridiculous.
They've got it to a science. One the world is I have to do
with covering you know, a widereceiver or or you know, breaking free
from a corner. Like it doesn'tit doesn't compute. But again, you

(57:13):
run a four to three, You'regoing first two rounds. It's happening.
He's a guy I watch. He'sjust a guy I've always watched. I
knew the Giants wanted him back inthe day. They finally got him.
Now he's done his second regime ofdefensive coordinators. Does it pop this time?
And are we talking a lot moreabout Simmons this year than we did
last year? He maybe just needsa little marketing. Maybe just needs a

(57:35):
little help from our friends over anelevation ten thousand. Ooh, a little
logo, a little brand, maybemaybe a style. What does he do
it? Digital marketing? Maybe asocial media plan for es CEO, ott
OTV, all those special ways toget your name out there on the interwebs.
I think that's how we do it. Elevation ten thousand can help you
do it. Lavacto's have experienced. He his rocket elevation ten thousand gear right

(57:57):
now. Next everything I own atthis point, elevation ten thousand. Look
what you've done to him? Hejust said everything he owns is from you.
He calls you every single day. It'll be more when the season starts.
I don't know how I would designa website without you. I don't
know how I would do a commercialwithout Blake. Now there's a part of
me that wants to show up toelevation ten thousand again with you, and
just like, see what Christian thinksof you now and Dave thinks of you

(58:19):
like he's here all the time.Dave loves me. Christian will love me
again once my all my first ordersof the season are over. He'll love
me one day he will. Butit's again, it's think about it though
you. Hey, we needed weneeded use of it of a of a
great database to sell tickets. Wellwe've got that. We're working on that.
Hey, what's wrong with our website? Well streamline this move that okay

(58:39):
great? Hey, I need Xamount of shirts to give away, an
X amount of shirts for staff towear this that okay, great, we
got you. How many you need? Like, that's what they do.
They do it all for you. They don't just elevate your brand. They
just make your life that much easier. But the base of it all is
elevates your brand today with elevation tenthousand, Hot four four is next.
You're ready for it. I'm rightin colony. They're still on the northwest.
