(00:00):
It's Lavack and guys on ninety fivenine Fox Sports Radio. I'd be Monday,
everybody, as we I just realizedthat I missed four twenty. I
just every one year. I swearI'm gonna get involved in that. I
promise, I'm lying. I don'tcare about it at all. Guys,
earlier today, you said that youhad like a NBA player that was gonna
(00:21):
be the story of the playoffs, and I believe you annointed him as the
Great One or something. I thinkyou call him the modern day Will Chamberlain.
No, I didn't, I didn'tsay that, but Levac talking about
four twenty. If you missed ithour one or hour two of the show,
it's always on de Man, Apple, Spotify, the iHeart apps.
So I didn't pay off my t'suntil an hour and a half later.
So if you're listening to the segmentnow, go back to like the twenty
(00:42):
four minute markt hour one, andalso note that, trust me, the
New York fans enjoyed four twenty withsome of the odd takes from the Yankees
over the weekend, and now weknow maybe even the umpires were enjoying four
to twenty, throwing out Aaron Booneinstead of the fan who was yelling him,
what is going on in New York? All right, no more,
no more? We'd allowed in NewYork. The Salaroon's gonna act going forward.
(01:03):
Uh yeah. The player I wastalking about was Anthony Edwards from the
Minnesota Timberwolves. This guy is thenext one, like everyone wants to be,
like, oh, the guy whochanges the franchise and does whatever,
like sure, like there have beentrue guys who've done this. Jani Sante
Tokunpo is the most recent example.Drafted by the Bucks. Wasn't even the
(01:23):
number one pick, so he livedup to the hype. But when you
run through like people who are numberone picks. Lebron obviously, but Lebron
was like twenty years ago, AnthonyDavis. Anthony Davis won his championship with
the Lakers, thinking about a guywho was a number one overall pick,
and is this good? This isthe guy? Like I love Zion,
(01:46):
Zion is finally in shape, Zion'sdoing well for the Pelican Zion got hurt.
I got no, it's not Zion. Anthony Edwards in the most recent
game for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Theyhave smacked Phoenix in game one. And
it wasn't just destroying the suns ingame one. It wasn't just that,
It was what happened during the gamethat Anthony Edwards goes thirty six minutes,
(02:09):
thirty three points, nine rebounds, six sists in the three pointers. We're
talking about somebody and Anthony Edwards lavacwho's not even twenty five years old.
He is twenty two years old,and during the biggest plays in the game,
you know what he's deciding to do. After he hits the threes,
(02:30):
he starts screaming at Kevin Durant. You know how wild that is to have
a twenty two year old who probablygrew up is Kevin Durant's poster in his
room and he's screaming at him abouthow much better he is than him and
how he's the man. If youwatch that Adam Sandler movie on Netflix where
Anthony Edwards is, I guess right, like he's like the modern day Ray
(02:52):
Allen, but he's almost the villainin comparison to the good guy like Ray
Allen. Isn't that but Anthony Edwards, there's only one person, and don't
throw anything, don't disconnect from mvperreader. From me, truly, there's
only one person he reminded me ofwhen he had that game, Michael Jordan.
Like that was a Michael Jordan likeperformance. Be goes. Look,
(03:12):
Lebron has always been more like MagicJohnson. I know people always want to
compare it to Lebron to Jordan andKobe to Jordan. But the freak athlete
that he is, the trash talkchanging a franchise, living up to the
hype. It's gross to do theMichael Jordan comparison, but I'm please New
York sports fans go watch Anthony Edwards. This is the modern day version of
(03:35):
a Michael Jordan type player. HLevac I opened up this Monday Third Hour
with a very hot take. Areyou ready to buy into some of this
Jordan like comparison for me? FromAnthony Edwards. It's it's the only reason
I think I'm not jumping out ofyour throat is you said modern day version,
Because there's no way Michael Jordan isyelling at Durant and I'm better than
(03:59):
you. He's just telling during thegame quietly need like, you know,
taking a little chip out of yourself confidence with every little with every little
terrible comment, with every little sneakything he says, with every push off,
with every just wearing you down bothphysically and emotionally, and meanwhile working
harder than you and being better thanyou the entire game. That's that's who
(04:19):
he is or was. I probablyshould say Anthony Edwards to the screaming bit
much and maybe it is. Whatwas that when we hustle? Yes,
that's it, that's it. Andmaybe it's because he was such a great
villain in that movie. It makesit hard for me to believe that that
like he's he could be one ofour icons that way. But I think
(04:42):
the hardest thing is realizing that youdon't, I don't have to be perfect
right out of college to be thenext grade. Because yeah he's twenty two,
but he's in his fourth year inthe NBA. Like that's that's like
the scary thing. I remember whenAnthony Edwards came out and all the all
the Goose jokes and everything, becausethe actor who played Goose in Maverick his
(05:06):
name was Anthony Edwards. Like Iread all of that and I almost forgot
about Anthony Edwards because here he's inMinnesota, not not in you know,
not New York, not in lanot on the coast. He's in Minnesota,
you know, playing amongst the thenice people in the snow. And
now he is slowly but surely showingthe greatness that everyone thought he had when
(05:30):
they made a number overall pick.So like that is that is definitely I
think I can kind of see whereyou're coming from. I don't I'm not
ready to make him Jordan, butthe modern day, different version of could
be the best player of the game. I'll go there with you. I'll
at least have a seat at thetable. While you pointed out to me,
yeah, I want to flip backto that angle you took on about
(05:50):
him almost being like an unknown, because it's another example of the effect of
COVID. Because Anthony Edwards, eventhough he played for a bad Georgia team,
the fact that we didn't get moreabout him and hear more about him
when he entered that NBA draft wasbecause of COVID, Like most people didn't
get that march Man just run wherehe became a Lenchen or get to hear
(06:10):
more about him and everything else, because the world was so different when he
was drafted number one overall. Andit's a combination a lot of those things
you said, like, okay,so let me walk this through. Okay,
so you're telling me the number onepick in the NBA draft's gonna be
from the Georgia Bulldogs the NBA,but he actually could have been a better
football player than basketball player, andhe's gonna get drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves
(06:30):
during COVID. Like if you wantedto draw up who should be the most
irrelevant number one pick, that mightbe the way you do it, Timberwolves
in a COVID year for a kidwho's from a non basketball school who might
be better at football, and he'sreally athletic, so he's not even known
as the shooter. I mean that. That's about it now, right,
because there is gonna be this. There is gonna be this like movement in
(06:53):
the NBA, and this happens everyplayoff series where one team takes the next
step, like they get really close, but everyone talks about it next year.
The Warriors had that initial run whereit's like, okay, they're time's
coming their next If you want togo even further back, like when the
Bulls were getting close, like they'regonna eventually clip the Pistons back with the
(07:15):
bad Boys. This is sort ofhow the NBA goes. The Nuggets had
that conference finals run again in COVIDand eventually, when Jamal Murray got healthy,
that's the reason the Nuggets were ableto get over the top. But
everybody has this so like as muchas we've seen blowouts, as much as
it should have been the New YorkKnicks being talked about it, maybe the
Knicks will keep that going tonight againour coverage gets on our way. It's
seven tonight tip off set for seventhirty as the Knicks take on the Sixers.
(07:40):
From a national scale, this feelslike that moment of okay, in
Minnesota have their own superstar. Iknow he's getting paid a lot of money
and he plays again tomorrow in theTNT primetime game. So and I mentioned
that New York wanted him. Ithink that was more of please, like
how about come on, like let'sjust put him in New York. Come
(08:03):
on, Minnesota wants it and everything, but can we have them? Right?
Yeah? I mean, and andto watch that game too, like
like when you've got a Phoenix Sunslineup with Kevin Durant Bradley Beal, Devin
Booker, and like they just lookout man, and they look like they
accepted their fate kind of early inthat game against Minnesota where you know,
(08:26):
Karl, Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwardsjust looked like they were far superior players.
Like they to see Kevin Durant kindof look desperate at times on the
court feels really weird. And butit happened, and so for that reason,
it's hard me to go go againstit. I just I think it's
the Jordan part. I think ifyou just said, like Anthony Edwards is
on pace to be the best playerof right now, I'd probably be like,
(08:50):
dude, let's see it. Hecan. He can prove it,
you know, take on a takeon a very game Sons team and then
make a deep run and who knows, maybe even make the you know what
conference finals. I could, Icould. That could be a part of
it. But the Jordan part,it's such a it's such a protected label
for me. Uh, I wantI want to flip back to the Durant
thing. I think you I wantto. I just missed the verb you
(09:13):
used there or edge have you usedthere for describing Durant desperate, desperate,
thank you because desperate. I knowwhat you're I know what you mean by
that. I would have said old. I would have just said old because
you know, like think about this, Like Durant has been in the league
since OH seven, so he wasdrafted in OH seven, So he's been
in this thing since seventeen years.Lebron got in the league in OH three.
(09:35):
These guys are getting old, they'regetting up there like the stars of
this league. Giannis has got tobe pushing a decade in the league at
this point. There is this openingof a window, and it'd be fun
if it's Jalen Brunts and and bethe same way he's pushing the decade in
the league. There are these olderguys who have been around for a long
time, and you look at theother side of the Western Conference, like,
(09:56):
could this be SGA's moment. Yeah, but there were times he wasn't
even the best player on the courtin game won against the Pelicans, Luca.
Hey, he's a top three finalistfor the MVP. He's great.
People bash him for not playing defense, all right, that's fine. But
there's like this new guard in theNBA that's going to come where we're so
used to the Steph Curries and who'snot even in it this year? And
(10:16):
Lebron and Duran and look we didthis with ors, right, Chris Paul
Klay Thompson, the next the future, all that stuff feels like it's now
how much fun would it? Eitherone like the Suns in Durant, I
know his legacy is behind Kenny wina championship on his own, and it's
like, I think people are justlike fatigued by that too. Now with
(10:37):
Durant, where it's like, yeah, you won the championship with the Warriors,
you decided to go somewhere to chasethe championship and he tried in Brooklyn,
it didn't work. Now you're tryingin Phoenix. I would wait.
I would love to see Anthony Edwardsand the Wolves in that Western Conference semi
against either Denver to do like thispassing to the Torch thing or the Lakers.
(10:58):
And I don't think it's going tobe the Lakers, but I find
it way more intriguing now to havethe young versus old than the stars in
their prime. And and maybe youknow wh I probably have that take because
we never got the Kobe versus Lebronfinals. We never got the the big
superstar versus big superstar matchup we thoughtwe could. That would have been amazing,
(11:22):
you know that. It feels likemore like the fight game now too
with boxing that we never got Superstarin prime versus Superstar. McGrady was in
that mix for a while, Somaybe that's why I want it more.
I want the young guns going atit in the finals. Well it's a
you know, the other thing wenever had was this like this European big
man, Like that's a whole Likethat's that's what the last ten to fifteen
(11:46):
years we've really seen this come tofruition. So it's like that guy can
play different than everybody else, Likeyou have to change the style of play
when you when you take on Jokerand and everybody like that. So I
don't know, I just I thinkthe talent's coming in too fast and too
furious to have one person be theguy, like the handing of the torch
(12:07):
and all that. Like, II don't know if we can get that.
I don't I don't know if thetorch is stay in place very long.
I think it just I think itturn over too quick, be fun
if, like, you know, nobody wants to give up the torch or
turns too quick or the best comparisonhere will be Jokic, and he'd be
like, do I have to carrya torch? I'm not staying for the
(12:28):
parade. I want to go home. Okay, can you leave me alone?
The orange cassidy of the NBA hopefullysomeone got that cross eight e W
reference all the way to light it. You have to play games, and
I just want to see my horses. Gosh, dude, so well you
(12:48):
didn't hear. I muted it whileyou were talking. There's a dude here
checking them detectors, so it wasblaring in the background while you were trying
to talk. There's a guy hehas a it's like he's like a cup
on a stick. That's like it'sa little more you know, scientific that,
but it sets off the smoke detectors. So he's in here in my
(13:09):
office and he sets it off.I hadn't mute right before it went off,
and I was like, okay,I'm like he done. He goes
yep, and and I hear itfor the rest of the office. He's
rowing, oh man, I'm I'myou fall through. That's a that's about
as distracting as it could have gottenfor you as a smoke detect that's pretty
(13:30):
rough. It's like a prank atthis point. Like it's like a prank,
Like it's almost like everybody knows thatI've been I've been in touch with
the Integrated Sleep Center more and more, trying to like this new mouthpiece.
It's different, so I'm getting usedto it. So I'm making sure,
like doing tweaks and stuff. Andit's almost like people like, I don't
think he's slept perfect. I knowhe's a little stressed. Let's test the
smoke detector. Let's go check outthe new uniforms while he's in there.
(13:52):
Let's rumma through his desk and we'llsee what he's doing. And then you
know, and then my cordeal flippedme off through the door. I didn't
even know he was here. Soall those things are happens as we speak.
Uh, and I will. Iwill tell you the Integrave Sleep Center
has been amazing trying to get thingsright, and and I'm sleeping better and
better. Each each adjustment is astep closer. Five eighty five six five
(14:13):
five eighty five six five the IntegraveSleep Center in Bosses Spot with doctor Fredrier
or should I say Diplomat of Dentalsleep Medicine, Fred Dreer. They've got
they've got this down to science. They'll work with your insurance company. No
hoses, no wires, no surgery. It's a mouthpiece keeps my airway open.
And I'm sleeping better and better. So make the call today five one,
(14:33):
eight eighty five six wine five doctorFred Dreer and the Integrave Sleep Center
in bass Spa. Help him mesleep better, gonna help you sleep better
too. I feel like Gods,I feel like the rest of the show.
I just have you tell me whothe best player and each sport is.
How about instead of that, willdo that for the NFL Draft,
we can do that. We haven'ttalked draft yet. Todayble back, I
can give you another God's favorite player. Take. I love it. Let's
(14:56):
do that. Coming up next righthere. Fox Sports Radio ninety five nine
nine, it's Lovak and guys onthe voice of the Capitol Regions Sports Fan
Fox Sports ninety five nine and nineeighty. Oh yeah, I mean,
it's business is picking up around hereover at the at the offices, and
I've had this voke Texas. Checkthe uniforms, check people coming through asking
(15:20):
questions, the field is being delivered. It's guys, you should be proud
of me that I've been able tostay nearly as focused as I have.
It's crazy, AfterAll, it's it'swhat's for dinner. I'll tell you right
now. I knew for those whomissed it earlier in the show, I've
said it across the office. I'mlike, everyone knows it's Game Week,
right, like everyone knows Levac isrunning the already Firebirds. We gave away
some tickets earlier in the show, and don't forget all week longer and an
(15:43):
opportunity to go to the Firebird homeopener this Saturday, that you are in
it, like, this is thefirst time Levac that you and I have
really like done a show in GameWeek, because you and I were just
doing the show and then you tookall the role in May of twenty twenty
one, and then even when wedid the podcast side of it, it
(16:03):
was in between the weeks, andwe kind of adjusted as needed, and
we did a lot of the podcastsduring the season at the game which was
a lot of fun. We gavekind of like the preview pregame show to
it. So yeah, this isif you're listening, you're doing this with
us like this, this is theevolution of the show, and hopefully you're
enjoying it, whether your podcasts andlive and all week long, we'll offer
you some insider stuff going on locally. Is the Firebirds get ready for kickoff?
(16:27):
Anybody who just enjoys me suffering, you should be enjoying this because I
am getting my ass kicked. Soso that is that's there for you,
my friends. But as you doknow, this kickoff of the season of
the the new AFL, of theNew Firebirds is this Saturday, Day three
of the NFL Draft. For whichreason you know, listen, you known,
(16:48):
I'm a draft guy. Love talkingdraft. I'm enjoying the more and
more we get into it, justkind of taking a look and everything,
getting a feel for who's where,how we think it's gonna go. We've
talked a bunch of quarterback guys,we talked wide receiver, we finally did
running back. What like, doyou want to break down a position?
Do you just want to talk aboutdifferent dudes? What do you feeling today
(17:11):
when it comes to the NFL Draft. I want to flip back to something
we've talked about leading up to thedraft that kind of sparked this segment.
You and I both felt the sameway about it. And it still feels
like most New York spans New Yorksports fans feel this way about this draft,
that it's fascinating, but the headlinesaren't dominated like East do. I
think back like to the twenty sixteen, excuse me, twenty eighteen NFL draft
(17:36):
when it was so quarterback heavy andwe knew the Bills and the Jets we're
gonna draft a quarterback, even backto years previous when we knew the Giants
would be in the mixburg quarterback,We're pretty sure the New York teams aren't
gonna go after it. And Isay that because the Jets could take one
late for Rogers backup, or theGiants could have fooled everybody and been eyeing
that up. But that feels likewhy it's been a quieter draft, and
(17:59):
this rea like the positions that arethe most important in the NFL now in
twenty twenty four, Now I'll justrank them, Okay, most important quarterback.
We all know that you could arguethat the second most important position still
is offensive tackle protecting the quarterback. And then I think you could flop three
and four or of wide receiver indefensive back. If you've got a really
(18:23):
good wide receiver with a really goodquarterback, you've got a chance to win
games. But some would flop itand say, hey, if you've got
a really good defensive back to shutdown their wide receiver and force them to
make throws. In this league, that's rare to find. So I bring
up those horror positions because this draftfeels really good for all four of those,
and in particular, probably the bestis offensive tackle. It's like,
(18:45):
if that's what we're gonna look backon and say, like, hey,
how about that twenty twenty four draftclass they had great offensive tackles. That
doesn't get the casual fan all excited, you know, it's like, oh
man, I was waiting for thattackle heavy draft, and Jet fan in
particular, I want to talk toyou about that. I think that affects
the Jets more than anything else.Think about the spot ThReD here, look
(19:07):
back, Okay, they've got apretty high pick and they've got one decision
to make of the two. SoI think jetfan and even people who don't
follow the Jets would say, Okay, you need one of these two positions,
offensive tackle or wide receiver, andyou don't have a second round pick.
So what the Jets do at tenis very intriguing now to me because
I just told you wide receiver, offensive tackle, you want to take one
(19:32):
there, you want to trade back, you want to do something wild.
That's what I've convinced myself. Myheadline today is this draft is boring.
It's fascinating because adults are there. It is like right, Like, it's
boring because I don't know if thoseguys are good in this year's draft or
they weren't good enough to leave threeyears ago. And that's why they're in
this because time ran out, andthat it's an offensive tackle heavy draft.
(19:55):
That's what I've convinced myself three daysaway from the actual draft. But you
know, those are the ones that, like, in my opinion, up
being the best. Like, asyou're talking, I'm thinking to myself,
like we led ourselves to believe thatthis that quarterback was all abouttered this draft
that we were going to be lookingat. You know, obviously your big
(20:15):
ones you got Kayleb Williams, JadeDaniels, that's yeah, Jade Daniels,
all those guys. I'm sorry,I left my offensive tackles listened to my
thing for a second, So confuseme, Kayler Williams, Jade Daniels,
Drake May, J J. McCarthy, Mike Pennish, you and your bo
Nicks. You know, like thoseare the names that were the entire marquee
of this whole thing, and thatwas all we cared about. But when
(20:36):
you really look at the talent thewider you could argue this is the top
wide receiver draft. You just saidit. You can look at this,
this is the top offensive tackle draft. Like there's there's gonna be like there's
only like two edge rushers that Ithink changed the entire game for you,
Dallas Turner from Bama and Jared versusFlorida State, but a lot too from
UCLA is good. Chip Robinson fromfrom Penn State. I watched him make
(20:59):
people know there's a decent number ofcorners. I think this story, after
this draft is done, is goingto be all about almost every other position,
not quarterback. I think you're gonnawatch these guys that went early.
Everybody's gonna go gaga for them,or they're gonna say their boss immediately,
as they always do. And themeanwhile, from each draft camp, you're
gonna get a story about Terry andArnold the corner from Bama or you know,
(21:26):
or of course cool in mckinskie becausethat's just a cool name. But
like Jared Verse and how he's fittingin in Chicago or whatever like these,
there is so much depth in hisdraft. There's some really really strong players.
And that's exactly the fact why Ikeep getting confused by it. That's
exactly right, Like we have thesestrong players that you just listen up there,
(21:48):
names that are gonna have impact inthe NFL in twenty twenty four,
whether it's on a New York teamor not a New York team. And
I just keep going back to thatsame where and I'm sure you'll hear it.
Maybe we'll make it a drinking gameby Thursday. Fascinating fact. Get
the old chemistry? Was that thething you put under the microscope and study
this draft class forever? What isin this because it goes like the offensive
(22:11):
tackle take right. I get whythe offensive tackle is important because they're athletes.
They're freaks. There's not a lotof dudes you can find who are
six six sixty seven, three hundredpounds who can move and be an athlete.
But if you looked at college football, especially at the D one level,
for these four and five star recruits, and you and I see this
every year when he used to covertraining camp. You look at a freshman
(22:34):
at you all buty, and thenlook at him as a fifth year senior.
That's a boy to a man likeyou hit the weight room, you
put on weight, you grew outof beard, you're strong like. That
is college football to a tee watchingan eighteen year old kid become a twenty
three year old man. Again, that's the FCS level, the FBS level,
the same thing happens. But whathappens is these NFL teams can look
(22:56):
at these guys who might have playeda fifth year, hell, in some
cases a sixth year. I knowthe center from Minnesota was uh, I
think the Giants had him. Actuallywhere you watch this kid grow that big,
You're like, okay, he cango right now. He physically is
a man and can play in theNFL. That's why these offensive tackles can
and oh linman can benefit from covid. The problem with guys like quarterbacks and
(23:19):
wide receivers and defensive backs, peopleare gonna keep going back to this insaying,
Okay, are you a twenty fouryear old quarterback now in the league
because you're good or because we hadto throw you out because you couldn't play
seven years? Did you wait aslong as possible? And the nil plays
a huge factor in this slavack,right, Like, let's say you're a
(23:41):
fourth round pick, right Like,Let's we'll use Pennicks for an example here.
Okay, let's say Pennix was gonnabe a fourth round pick two years
ago, and we're just gonna throwa number out here. Let's say a
fourth round because the fourth round iscan get cut. But let's just for
the sake of this conversation, sayhe was gonna make four hundred thousand dollars.
Okay, that's nice, four hundredthousand dollars. You probably a third
(24:02):
rounder if you're a third certain quarterback, if your fourth rounder, would you
rather do that risk or make abouta million and a half being a star
at Washington? You know, hitthe nil and go get the money like
some of these guys are, Like, I would rather stay in college for
another, You're gonna make a tonof money than be a fourth round pick.
And it makes sense out loud whenyou think about it. Well,
I mean that's the other thing too, is like we it's not the rush
(24:25):
anymore, like like the the clocksthat make money starts ticking, and if
you're a certain age, you gottaget out of it. You gotta get
out of college. You gotta getinto the pros no matter even it means
you can go a little, alittle later than you should, just because
you gotta go. You start makingmoney. You can make money now,
you can make make decent money. You can make you make the kind of
money your family needs. You canmake the kind of money that you know
tells you like, wait, Ican stay, I can develop, maybe
(24:48):
get my degree. I can doall these things, and I can still
make money like I've never seen before. And then I can go to the
pros and then I can be apart of it, so I can play
all four years without really sacrificing allthat much I do. That's one of
the pluses of the NIL is it'schanged that. And then the transfer portal
do I wish it was a littlemore regulated sure I do, but the
(25:11):
fact that I can hate my schoolat some point because of a changing coach
or a change in structure or changewhatever, and go, Okay, I'm
not really ready, but I'm gonnago to the pros I got out of
here instead I and go no,no, I'm gonna go here like I
do. I like where the gameis headed up on that level. I
think a little more structure shure withthat Niol money, chance to choose where
(25:33):
you play. These guys are comingin the league a little older, little
wiser, and a lot bigger. All right, Now, get another shotglass
for one more just in today's show, Howard in one more fascinating out of
me for this one. That usuallydoesn't work at any other place. You
apply for a job like usually thatif you have an opportunity to choose between
(25:55):
and at play with a lot ofexperience, and they've gone through the career
year in which they're trying to advancetheir career. Hey, you've you've been
an accountant for five years. Hey, you've sold media marketing for five years.
You've been a teacher who taught asa student teacher at a different district.
We're gonna offer you this job becauseyou've developed a skill set we think
it's gonna match. Now. Look, I get it. There's not a
(26:17):
lot of time now anymore for collegeplayers because of camps and no more double
sessions and roster size and everything else. Like they want guys who are NFL
ready. Of course they do.Like just like any other job, you
want someone's skill set to match whatyou're looking for. I don't worry,
Jordan Moodiana. I feel like I'mdoing you as an NFL scout right out
express employed professionals. But it's true, like now in the NFL, this
(26:41):
draft is so weird because it's likeour guys gonna get passed on because they
have too much experience. That's that'swild to think about. Hey, you've
done this for too long. We'drather take the guy that involves some risk.
The answer is no, you knowwhat, I ever take anybody with
risk at anything. But some someteam is gonna screw this up and say,
(27:02):
eh, why didn't he come outtwo years ago? What do you
mean is it's an All American?Yeah, he's an old All American,
played with Jim Thorpe. That's whyI'm so interested in that stuff in this
year's draft and how teams handle it. Yeah, and it's also you know,
we're kind of almost all the wayon the other side of the COVID
nonsense as far as like who's gonnaplay for an extra fifty years versus who's
(27:26):
gonna just get that one extra year? Like we're into more like like it's
kind of the end of it wherewe're looking at actually like grading players based
on the same scale, not additionalyears and everything. So it's it is.
It's it's a sliding scale, it'sa changing scale, and it's gonna
be I think it's gonna be oneof the better drafts. I really,
I really do. Like you andI were talking about the other day where
(27:47):
originally it looked like we were gonnabe hosting a party somewhere, and then
we kind of sat down and talkedabout it after where it's like I kind
of don't want to I want todrink this one in, Like I'm gonna
be a part of this one.I want to. I want to see
how it goes. And obviously, you know, Day three, I didn't
know the Jets had Mister Irrelevant. The Jets had the last pick, so
it'll go Jets pick right to usand the Firebirds over at the MVP Arena.
(28:11):
So that's pretty cool too. Idid not know that it's even Oh
wow, it's fantastic. Yeah, they got some compensation picks, I think.
And so now they've got they've gotthe final two picks of the draft
as of right now. I justimagine now like it's it's gonna be a
nice pop from somebody for oh youknow what I see. I just got
too excited for myself. I wasgonna say it was a nice pop from
(28:33):
somebody, But it's not. It'snot in Radio City Music Hall like it
used to be. Like that's howexacted I got, like I can't wait
for jet Fan to go creating. No, no, no, it's not.
It's not the old school days likeit used to be. Yeah,
the contingents will be there. You'llstill see it. Maybe you'll hear it
live here at MVP Arena. Maybewe be enough Jetsman's and attendance that we
uh, we get it, weget our own pop. You know,
(28:56):
I would love that. I wantit to happen, you know what.
I'm just gonna do this that Ican't wait any longer. Express employment Professionals.
Jordan, I'd like, did thewhole thing there. Please go and
support our guy at Express Employment Professional. We just talked NFL draft. How
many of those things did we talkabout that are really going into hiring somebody
for your business. That was noton purpose, That was not intentional.
(29:18):
It was describing what people look forwhen they try to find somebody who fits
their business and more, and it'sthe NFL draft. Jordan does that for
you. He does the scouting foryou. He figures out what's going to
work for your business. Look,if you're somebody who needs a wide receiver
defensive back, you probably don't needthat for your job, but you know
the skill set we're talking about,Maybe you need somebody who's great with it.
(29:38):
Maybe you need security, Maybe youjust need some summer helps the seasons
change. Jordan will do that scoutingreport for you and find that person or
persons whose skill set fits what youneed. Don't worry have the resumes,
don't worry about the background checks, and more. Jordan has a crew ready
to go. Call them today.Head to their website expresspros dot com or
on their social media page. Wecan find about some of the great reviews

(30:21):
you. Listen, Vack, I'mcutting you off. You sound terrible.

you off twenty minutes early. Allright, listen, I'll take it.
I'll take it with I appreciate it, brother, Thank you so much.
And I've got to tell you thegame good. Thank you. Go let
me know if something happened over theweekend involving a New York team. By
(30:41):
the way, there's a tease foryou that this coach is furious. It's
April. How is this coach inNew York already furious about this? We'll
talk about it next. Uh,going solow as Levak figures out a lot
of things with the Firebirds. It'sright here, Lavack gas on Fox Sports
ninety five, nine to nine eighty. It's Lavak and Guz on Fox Sports
Radio taking you home here on aMonday. It's been an interesting, a
(31:04):
different odds show here if you missedthat NFA one More Plug, one more
time, giving you love to thepodcast audience, Apple, Spotify, the
iHeart App, turn on those automaticdownloads, listen to us anywhere you go,
especially on that iHeart app. LevacRemote Today MVP Arena shout out to
our winner from earlier in the showagain all week long giving tickets away to
(31:26):
the Almedy Firebirds home opener this Saturday. Speaking about home opener's debuts, a
New York coach was furious over theweekend about this odd thing in April,
five months away from kickoff. Yourhome for Syracuse football and basketball is our
(31:47):
sister station WGY. But I liketo say Fox Sports twenty five nine to
nine eighty as well. We getsome games throughout the season. Their new
head coach, Fran Brown, nothappy that at the spring football game there
was an no band, no cheerleadersa coach. Brown already made his presence
known showing up at a Kelly GreenPhiladelphia Eagle jersey of a player I have
(32:09):
to fully admit I wasn't very awareof and I think even the most diehard
Syracuse and Eagles fans might not beable to name this player you can think
of who number sixty seven was offthe top of your head. That's enough
clue that some people may not getthat. But Frand Brown being upset with
the performance of the walkout from thecheerleaders and the band is either two ways
(32:30):
to take it. I'm gonna bepositive on this money and take perspective number
one that the expectation needs to bereached that when you just tell people this
is the way it's done and there'sno wiggle room, there's now all we're
gonna let you do this. No, no, this is my standard.
Either you're gonna reach this or you'renot, and I'm gonna move on.
That's what coach Brown feels like, raw, authentic, real the reason why
(32:54):
he's a great recruiter, the reasonwhy he talks to four and five stars
all the time, because some somethings responding, not just in Georgia,
but put in those same types haven'tseen a five star yet come into Syracuse
for future classes. People respond tothe realness of it, that he's not
being a typical salesman in selling theschool that the modern day athlete buys it.
(33:16):
So there are some people in Syracuse, like myself, fans of the
team, season ticket holders, thatsay, okay, Coach Brown has a
new standard. This is the wayit needs to be. If they reach
this standard, he's going to behappy. But there is also a second
crowd of people. And the reasonwe bring this up to close out a
Monday showed it feels like whether it'sCentral New York or the Capitol Region,
(33:40):
especially Capitol Region, sports mean you'regonna understand this well up north in Watertown,
and I saw Boonville, the BoonevilleBats, a New York collegiate baseball
team, all about in Buffalo andmore that there are some citizens, some
sports fans don't like when the expectationis raised because they fire back with,
(34:05):
oh, he doesn't understand the waywe do it. Doesn't he understand this
fan base doesn't act like that.Doesn't he understand He's in Syracuse, Albany,
Buffalo. We're not Tusca, LUSA, we're not South Bend, We're
not these other places that do itthat way. That's not the way we
(34:25):
do it here. But I thinkwe forget with perspective that the way that
South Bend in Tusca, LUSA andAthens and all these other schools that are
projected to be these powerhouse universities hadthis moment happened to them. But there
were times that Eugene, Oregon didn'tlook like a college football powerhouse. That
(34:49):
there were things that had to bebuilt, and winning was the reason why
those things started to happen. Seattle, Washington, Yeah, Washington's had some
tradition, but there's still some peoplethat don't you Washington is a college football
powerhouse, although they've played in theCollege Football Playoff and or One went away
from winning the national championship last season. But look, it's something I've always
realized. Moved out to the Capitalregion and for local sports that oh all,
(35:14):
but he doesn't have this and thenickname of small beneath everything else that's
come into this that well, ifwe did it like that, you wouldn't
get the response that you wanted.Okay, So that means you should never
try it. That means you shouldnever do it, and means you should
never give the opportunity, whether it'spessimistic attitudes are burned by the past or
everything else. I thought about thefran Brown quotes for a while and thought,
(35:36):
what's wrong with that? What's wrongwith having high expectations. Look,
I have a sister in law wholived in Vegas. If you listen to
the show, she's got a lotof Instagram followers. She is single,
but she talks about having high expectations. She is not going to settle.
There's a reason why she's single becauseshe has the standard of what she wants
to reach and she doesn't want tosettle on anything else. Whether it's people
(35:57):
in relationships, whether it's people ajobs who might leave the job early and
say this is not the way Ido business. I believe I got more
out of myself if somebody who hitsthe transfer portal. People keep high opportunities
in high standards, and if youdon't want to hit that standard, you
can bounce. See you bye. That's what coach Van Brown's doing out in
Syracuse. He's holding the expectation high. Coach Catuso is doing the same thing
(36:21):
at you Albany Football Now for theexpectations. They got to a Final four,
one of the best teams in thecountry. The bar has been raised
for the Great Danes. With nodisrespect of former Great Dane players. It's
not the same Great Dane program thatwas around in the late two thousand.
It's not the same Great Dane programthat was around with coach Bob Ford or
anybody else. When winning starts tohappen, the expectation is raised. But
(36:45):
Coach Brown's decided before the winning comes, we're gonna raise the bar now.
So you know what winning feels like. So you keep your attitude like this.
When the winning starts to happen,We've already set this going in motion
going forward. That's some powerful stuffthat the bar has been raising high.
This is an important week here inthe Capitol Region. That's why I did
(37:06):
this to close out the show todaybecause the bar can be raised for Capitol
Region sports over the next week. The Albany FireWolves. We're not gonna have
just one, but two hits thisweek involving FireWolves players and coaches promoting their
playoff game on Sunday. You heardit through Levac and how busy he's been
today that the Albany fire Birds arefollowing the NFL Network the NFL Draft one
(37:29):
of the highest rated days on theNFL Network. That when that thing wraps,
you want to talk about a laitin audience. It's gonna go straight
to MVP arena. What will Capitolregion sports fans show off this weekend?
What bar will they set for anational and to say, this is how
we do it in the five oneeight when it comes to sports and teams
we want to support locally, goingfor a championship, playing for the rights
(37:51):
to have these things happening more. You can help change that bar set this
weekend. Tell your friends, tellyour family. Hey, this is a
big sports weekend in the five oneeight, and everybody has different interests.
I get it. Some people lovehockey, some people love high school sports,
some people love baseball. I getit. That's great, But this
is one of these weekends you canfeel proud about and say, Okay,
(38:12):
the bars getting raised by local prosports teams, what have we done to
match it? It's about that attitude. So the next time Coach Brown has
a moment like this, whether it'sthe spring game of twenty twenty five,
whether it's the home opener for QUSfootball in twenty twenty four, which you
can hear on one of these twostations, Gee Y or OFX, You're
gonna find out what it is.And the same thing will happen for the
(38:35):
fire Birds, and the same thingwill happen for the fire Wolves, and
should the Valley Casters are just aroundthe corner of the college teams and more,
the bar is gonna start getting raisedhigher and high. Jerry mcnamart,
Sienna, Sienna Fana is already raisingthat bar on their own wit season tickets
and the expectations and more change it. It is a very big weekend for
local sports in twenty twenty four shavenup to be a monumental and influential year
(39:00):
for the five point eight when itcomes to the local sports teams. All
right, we got to got outof here on a Monday. We appreciate
Levac doing his thing. Coming upon tomorrow's show, Coach Damon where for
his weekly hit. Shout out toFlock University. Awesome stuff than this past
weekend. More that's coming up tomorrow. We are live tomorrow by the way
at the Albany County Hockey Facility andcolony. Come out and support We're doing

over the last six weeks, sohappy we get to be a part of
