You haven't been in studio on abouta week. You might have forgot
how the settings are in here.I know it has been a while.
Travis Kelsey two year extension with thechiefs. Uh, we'll break you for
you. Who told you that Colterbefore? No, I just I just
haven't seen on TV. I listened. I've been I've been very busy,
very busy. I've a lot goingon, very very popular and busy person
(01:07):
right now. I don't know ifyou knew that. So it's popular as
Taylor Swift and the Swifties. Swifty'sgotta be upset about Kelsey going back to
football and not spending more time withTaylor. It's good. You need some
time a part. You can't betogether all the time. It's it's bad
for you. It's trouble, trouble, trouble Taylor. That's the Taylor's that's
Jefs' version. No, so yeah, crazy crazy A couple days from me.
(01:30):
Yeah, crazier. Yeah. YourAlbany Firebirds are want to know,
instant classic against the Orlando Predators.Probably the absolute best Orlando Predators team I've
seen since nineteen ninety nine. Theyjust look good. They jumped on the
Firebirds early, played their played theirtails off. They were really really good.
(01:52):
Not good enough to get it donethough, because our guy Mark marko
Roscoe. It's that game when fieldgoal and overtime to solidify and get the
Firebirds the win. Lots happen inbetween those two times for kickoff to that
overtime field goal. But the coolestpart I thought was I didn't see a
(02:13):
lot of people leave for a gamethat kicked off at eight instead of seven.
We usually kick off at seven. Now we're eight because originally you're supposed
to the NFL network. It's asaga behind that. I think we've explained
it. If if you don't knowall the details yet, you will eventually
kicked off at eight went overtime.Such a great game. People are on
their feet the entire time, anda very very small percentage left. I
(02:37):
would say probably like four hundred peoplemaybe, and they had kids, but
everybody stayed. Saw an instant classic, the Firebirds getting tone with no disrespect
to the Patroons and the fire Wallsand Siana Lacrosse. We're gonna talk a
lot of local sports, say alot of local sports are going on this
past seventy two hours, and Iknow when you say something second it feels
(02:59):
like you're being disrespected, like thesecond best. Please take what I'm about
to say for the Firebirds and yourstaff and everybody's accompl I'm about to say
that is the second most packed I'veseen that arena since I've moved out here.
I would argue that that game onSaturday night is the most entertating sporting
event that's happened in the Capitol region, college or professional level in the last
(03:23):
nine years. Hell, you canput it to ten, depend on what
you want to do with the PeterHooley game, which you were at.
The U Albany game where the shotshit against Stonybrook. I believe that's March
of twenty fifteen, but I wouldput that game as second for everything that
happened now, second behind Hooy andsecond behind the return of arena football in
the Capitol Region. You and Iwere in a different role in two thousand
(03:45):
and eighteen. Got my year rightthere when the Albany Empire returned to the
Capitol Region. That was sold out, Every seat was filled, use whatever
term you want, the upper decks, everything that was a moment. But
the Firebirds had a moment on Saturday. Let's not get it twisted. The
thing that I underestimated and maybe CapitolRegions sports fans but underestimated this with me,
(04:10):
the power of the name Albany Firebirds. Yep. The mix of that
crowd was old school fans and youngkids people hadn't gone to a game in
years, and people who'd been waitingto come back to a game, who
could not wait to rock their gearfrom the nineties and cheer on this team.
To lead the whole thing off,We'll get to the x's and o's
there and then have it on theturf. But did you even underestimate the
(04:30):
power of the name Albany Firebirds untilyou saw it on Saturday night? Well,
you know I did. You knowwhat I mean, because back in
twenty one, there was a conversation, you know, when when the agreement
was made between Rondridrico, Nate StarlingJunior, and Mike Quorda to work together
and you know, bring back footballafter the bankruptcy after the twenty nineteen championship
(04:54):
for the AFL. There was ayou know, room full of people.
We had the option then Mike hadthe rights to both both teams, and
in my mind, I was like, dude, we just won a championship
with the Empire. I've never seenanything like it. We were packing that
place every every single game. Yougotta go Empire. And you know,
(05:15):
obviously I was wrong. Obviously Iwas wrong. But hindsight being what it
is, you know, whatever namewe went with first could have very well
ended up owned by a crazy person. And now that's right, So it
all worked out to where now wehave the Firebirds. But yeah, originally
I thought, I thought because ofall the work that had been done most
recently for the Empire. That wasthe way to go. But as you
(05:36):
just the people people are kiddy aboutthe Firebers merch almost sold out. Wow,
the area got to try to rushorder a whole new batch of merch.
Hey, hang on, I don'tmean to cut you off, but
I need to pause that right there, because I think people who don't work
in sports media or sports business orgame day operations understand the significance of what
(05:59):
you just set. People who workin music might get that. Like I'll
use example that's popular now. Quavoand Chris Brown are in a beef and
the story goes that Chris Brown boughtall of the Quavo tickets so nobody would
go. Someone's like, who caresQuevo's getting paid? No, no,
no events like this. They makemore money on merch when it comes to
selling out merchant a sport of that. That is incredible, Levac, that
(06:19):
the Firebird name could hold that typeof weight that merch sales did that great
for Game one. That's incredible. It was, and it was I think
it was like early in the thirdquarter. It was it was elevate your
brand today with elevation ten thousand.Looks like you'll be hanging out there a
few more times this week before Thursday. Yeah. One John, the John,
(06:41):
the guy who sells a lot ofthe merchan in the building. He's
like, you're not gonna believe this. We're out of this right, this
road, this, ro this row, this, I'm like, what do
you got left? He goes, not much, but I'll let you know.
And then you know, the restwent and he's like, I'll give
you a call, let you knowwhat we need. I go, should
I just order what we ordered forthis? He goes, yeah, I
do that. I'm like, okay, so this is yes, we we're
(07:02):
it's it was. It was reallyawesome and it's I'm so proud of the
team because there was a million differenttimes they could have quit on Saturday night.
So proud of coach where coach holliscoach, he say the crew because
they pushed the right buttons at half. You know, I didn't, I
couldn't go. I was I couldhave snuck in there, but I didn't.
(07:25):
My understanding is it was a littlebit of a little bit of good
cop, bad cop. You know, one going what are you doing?
Don't do that again. The otherone going stay calm, you know your
job, you know, but justpushing all the right buttons, getting it
done and staying in it, stayingin it, pushing it, pushing it,
and ultimately winning in overtime. Forthose who didn't get an opportunity to
follow the game or know what happened, the Firebirds were down sixteen oh basically
(07:47):
before the offense even took the field. I believe, before any offensive play
was run. It was sixteen nothingof Orlando, Yeah fumble. We'd all
kinds of so crazy with all thehype, the return of the Firebirds,
the home out Saturday night, beforethe home crowd get into it, down
sixteen to nothing and the comebacks startin why it was an instant classic and
everything else. I'm gonna save thisquestion for coach where no, no,
(08:09):
you know, I'm gonna ask youfirst. I think I know Coach wears
answer, but you might be abledoff a little bit more insight before I
ask him tomorrow. The pivotal playin that game is less than a minute
to go. The Firebirds are downseven, it's fifty nine to fifty two,
and Orlando brings on a field goalkicker Now, for those who don't
know the Arena Football League rules ona fourth down deep in your own territory.
(08:31):
If you're watching outdoor football, youknow you're gonna punt and make the
team go to try to win thegame, not necessarily the same strategy in
indoor football, which we get tooin a secon arena football, which we
get to in a second. SoOrlando kicks it to me Levac. That
doesn't like look like a field goalattempt. That looks like whatever version of
a punt is is a punt.Mark Elwade catches the ball in the end
(08:54):
zone, basically runs it in fora touch and I believe he's tackled at
the half yard line. One yardline. They punched it in late.
But I said this during the broadcastto Andrew Santillo. I said, most
people who are watching this game thinkthat that was a great play by Albany,
But as I've learned it, asyou've learned, and whether it's coach
where coach keif coach, but aspeople in the past who've coached these teams,
(09:15):
the goal for arena football is tohave the ball last. So what
happened was even though Albany tied thegame, Orlando had the ball to score
last. Can you can you takeus am I on the right pace here
that that field goal attempt a Lapunt was a chess move by coach Burt
for Orlando to make sure the Predatorshad the ball last. Yeah, okay,
(09:35):
I mean most likely I would thinkso. But the the overtime play
is what always like that got mebecause if if Mark hits the deuce on
the kickoff or Roscoe, we went, it's over, game's over. Sudden
death, doesn't we go down thefield, go to kick the field goal,
(09:56):
miss it, but you miss itoff the uprights touched by the receiving
teams. That's a live ball.We get it back. We end up
kicking the field goal to win thegame. After Gold plays, it was
everybody looking around, like what happens, what's gonna happen? How what's the
rule here? And the rest weresaying it, you know, but it
was just like it's one of thosedeals where like you're sitting there, you're
(10:18):
trying to let people know what's gonnahappen, but at the same time,
like I'm so in the moment,I don't want to talk to anybody I'm
watching this game that it was.It was. It was a great game,
instant classic, like every sense ofthe word instant classic. There's a
part of me that wished during thebroadcast. Interesting until by the way,
my partner, awesome. I thinkit's the best state job. Thank you
man. I think that's the bestgame he's called in four years. And
(10:39):
hopefully he's listening. He was fat. But it's almost a new compliment now
in twenty twenty four, how oftendu all your calls get shared on social
He was racking up calls. Hehad a few on the resume that he
was posting. But one huge partof that it again, I'll take the
blame for this. Arena. Footballhad different overtime rules in twenty nineteen.
The twenty nineteen rule was that onepossession, one possession, then sudden death.
(11:01):
So I'm like, oh, Iknow the rule. It's twenty nineteen's
rule. You can find it suddendeath. Scott No, I'm like,
huh, we're doing a game one. Okay, all right, I thought
I nailed that one. But I'lltake the blame for that. That's a
little different than people were used to. Well, the raft, the raft
was on it right away. Iwent over, explained it to Scott,
explained it to you know, thecoaches, what we were doing, and
(11:24):
we were on it. It reallytruly, which is the odd way ball
teams did have a possession anyways, because of the fumble and because of the
miskick and everything else. So allbut he wins. I don't want to
do this because we're having so muchfun. But it got a little weird
at the end of the game thereback at the fifteen yard line. Everything's
okay. Anybody get injured. Oh, it got a little nasty there at
the end of the game. Alittle skirmish's been suspended or anything. Everybody's
(11:50):
fine. I haven't seen any injuries. I don't I don't know what the
league ultimately I'm doing. I thinkthat the if it were up to me,
this would be a situation where warningsare issued, you know, if
you have to suspend people. It'sa game here, game there nothing,
(12:11):
nothing serious. I just think itwas such an emotional game. It was
so emotional. It was so likeOrlando was convinced they had this game one.
Then we started coming back. Wewere convinced we were gonna overtake them.
We don't. They're like, okaywith ours again that we do we
do beat them. It was itwas all over the place, and it's
(12:33):
it stinks that it went to thatlevel, that there was violence of some
variety, but it was broken up. Nobody got hurt. And I really,
really really think that you saw thetwo best teams in the AFL play
and I would hate to see eitherone of those teams lose any kind of
real ground or traction because of that. You mentioned the emotion of the game
and coach where might get mad atme for saying this, or he'll feel
(12:56):
like it motivates them. You canuse this the old school bulletin board material.
Orlando felt like the better team fora lot of that game. They
did, They felt like they Youmentioned this to lead off the show thirty
seconds and that's the best Predator teamyou've seen for decades plus. They're so
good. I said it during thebroadcast that if these aren't the top two
teams in the league, I'm aboutto find out who they are, because
that's about as good as you get. A huge play in that game for
(13:18):
Orlando, and you mentioned the emotionkJ excuse me, DJ, DJ Callhoun
got injured, and not just aninjury, that was a leg up in
the air, immediate medics on thefield, nasty stretcher, Like, it's
about as nasty as you can getwhen someone gets rolled up on a field.
And he was their star player ofthe game. Defensively, he would
have won the MVP of that gameas good as Powell played a quarterback Calhoun
(13:41):
and what he was doing on thefield. His injury changed that game both
X's and O's, but emotionally forOrlando, well, yeah, I mean
that was that was one of thoseones where I was, I was all
over the building, like you know, you've seen me on game days.
It's there's some and you you gottahave your hand on everything. You gotta
(14:03):
make sure that everybody's having a goodtime and everything like that. So that
was at that exact moment in time, I went to check the stream,
so I was, I was,I was checking to make sure that we
were broadcasting the right way. SoI heard that from you guys. I
heard you. And and Andrew Santilloexplained that play and everything and so much
(14:24):
credit to Myriad productions, Bo Smith, The and UH and Chris Chris Pascucci,
The the guys who were in chargeof all that, because they pulled
back. They pulled the camera back. So you guys did a good point
of like, here's where we are, this is what's happening. Not too
graphic, but pull the camera back. We don't Calhoun doesn't need you to
(14:46):
see it. You don't need tosee it. It was hurt. He's
hurt. He's hurt pretty bad.But it was it was a it was
well done, it was well covered. And I hope he's gonna be okay.
I hope it's I hope you recoveredquickly. But yeah, that was
that was an intense injury. Thatwas it. And there was no one
like even the the Firebirds and Pressersdon't like each other, like you just
(15:09):
don't. We just don't. That'sour rival. I think if you put
one of your kids in a Firebirdjersey the other one in a Predeer's jersey,
they might fight. Just don't evenknow why. Like that's just that's
what it is. But everyone wasfreaked out waiting to see if he was
gonna be okay, and and Ithink ultimately he is. But you know,
it's the season's gonna be over, that's for sure. But that was
crazy. That was an intense moment. We go, we go from the
(15:33):
nasty injury. We talked victory,we talked crowd, we talked the great
moments that it was for the Capitalregion and more. I don't know what
I want to do next here, because I know you want. I know
what you want to do. There'sa part of me that wants to take
a break here and address some otherthings. But there's a part of me
that wants to just close this segment. How would you like to do it,
Levac? Do you want to answersome critics, some haters right now,
or do you want to step asidefor a few minutes and then make
(15:54):
sure you're nice and calm or getfired up. I think there's some people
who want to see you fired upto take on some haters that popped up
not just here locally, but nationallyand in particular one who we're fans of.
Well, I guess we have arivalry with now. I don't know
what we did to this. Idon't know if I do. I don't
know if I do. Okay,I listen, I'm let's give the haters

It's a victory Monday as the FireWolveswin a playoff game. The Firebirds
win their very first game for Strew'sone too right. I think I'm not
positive. I think they won too. I think it's I think I just
know that it feels good, feelsyou know, lacrosse won a big game
first time in ten years against Marists. So shouts of Siena making headlines as
well. You Allbany lacrosse beats Binghamton. That's about as good as it can
(23:34):
get over the weekend for Capital ReadsSports. But a victory Monday for sure
lyvac we've ever had this in along time, or everybody across the Campbela
region has time to celebrate, loveit, having a blast, enjoying it.
But you know, you never getthrough a full story without some negativity.
You said, I have some somehaters, some nay stayers. What
(23:55):
you got for me? Yeah,I'm gonna play this cut from the Pam
McAfee show. You and I areboth Pam McAfee fans. I know it's
odd to talk about other shows, but this was a national conversation today involving
the Arena Football League. Here's Patmcafe's talking about the Arena Football League.
Yeah, and arena football is takingplace. Just go on X and just
(24:15):
search like Arena League right now andjust start scrolling. They got a real
bush league, shady operation cooking overthere. From what we've been told,
some teams have run up twenty fivethousand dollars bills at Super eight motels,
and the players are being told thatthey have to pay that or get the
hell. Guys are sleeping in carsright now. In the arena league,
(24:37):
they're playing on arena football fields thathave uprights that are like twisted and down
it looked pads not even covering allthe walls and some of the photo.
The arena leagues are a badspot badHey, players get screwed allegedly, you
know, which has always taking placein the spring leagues. The players are
the ones that end up having tosuffer the whole buff. But we want
to let everybody know, hey,we're pulling for you more football than there's
(25:03):
a lot that's fifty two seconds. There's a lot to cover there. Though
you seem a little bit pleasantly surprisedby the cut. Well he's pulling forward
like I just heard the negative partbefore. I didn't know the other thing.
And look there was a I keepmy head down. I control what
I can control. You know.I made a statement November sixteenth in front
(25:25):
of a lot of the owners andthe and the office execs for the other
leagues, and I said, youknow, typically we play on Saturday.
So I said, from Sunday toFriday, whenever you need you can call
me Saturday. We're gonna kick yourass. Just so you know, I
will help you. I will giveyou advice if I know something you don't,
(25:45):
and I'd like to be able tocall you and ask you for the
stuff that I don't know because thedamn long list and everybody agreed. Now
everybody's saying similar things to that. We're a league. We worked together during
the week, and then on theweekend or this week on Thursday, you
know, Nashville, the national teampresident, I call him d He's coming
(26:07):
in. He's like, yeah,I know you're busy. Can't pick your
brain for fifteen twenty minutes. Iwas like, you absolutely can, but
then we're gonna kick your ass.Just you know. But there's a lot
of that. There's a lot ofthat, But there was also as as
I can't ignore everything and just focusexclusively on us. I'm definitely hearing stories
(26:29):
about a couple of teams don't havetheir act together, and I can tell
you this right now. The leagueknows about it. And the deliberation is
can you save them, can youteach them? Can you get them up
to speed with the rest of us, or do we have to cut to
(26:56):
cut ties because if we can't,If if you can't treat your players right,
you can't be in the NFL.And and I know that Commissioner Hunting.
A lot of people don't like commissionHutting. I've learned that. I
don't know that why just because he'sthe boss. He must use things you
will give me. You might giveme. No no, no, no,
no no no, I'm gonna doI'm gonna do it. I'm gonna
do I'm gonna say the truth.I like him, but some people think
(27:21):
he can be a little arrogant. He's an attorney. He's gonna come off
as a little arrogance. Some peoplethink he's pretty arrogant. You have to
be the he. I mean,if you if you're ever on an owner's
call with this league. The guywho goes in and goes well, I
was kind of thinking, he's gonnaeat alive. The guy who comes in
and goes this is what we're gonnado, because it's right. He's gonna
have a chance. I laughed.Because my adult life, I've worked with
(27:44):
people in the media industry who haveto be bosses and market presidents and area
of presence. That's like a partof the gig you work in professional sports.
Of course they're gonna have egos andbe a little good arrogant because you're
working with arrogant people and there's aconfidence that oozes off of somebody. It's
just this is the way we doit. This is the level like spect
out of people, the teams andemployees. If you don't want to get
(28:04):
on this level, then so againthat's an outsider feeling that and there's you
know, and it's these things don'tlike like you heard, I don't know
the numbers like I heard McAfee saythat he heard there's what twenty five thousand
dollars in debt to a hotel andI don't know those numbers, Like I
don't I don't know, But theydon't happen overnight, you know what I
(28:25):
mean. So it's not like it'snot like a team that we know is
in trouble is Philadelphia. There's someproblems in Philly. There's some big problems
in Philly. I'm hoping they getit right, you know. And again,
if there's something that we can doto help them get it right,
we will, and they're willing toactually do the work will help them.
But like it's not like Philly justone yesterday all of a sudden, twenty
(28:47):
five grand showed up at dayote. If that's the case, and I don't
I don't know that that's who we'retalking about, but it's been fairly public
that that there's some issues in Philadelphia. So these things, you sit there
and I've listened to Lee hunt Bellgames the rest of the league, try
(29:08):
to try to help these guys getthese things right, because ultimately, if
you can get through this year, the AFL is gonna be where these players
make the most money. And they'regonna make a lot more money in the
AFL than they're gonna in the naL, the IFL or any other else.
It's just it's where it's gonna be. So if we can get it
right and we can save these teamsand we can help them, then they'll
those players will have a chance tomake real money as they go. If
(29:32):
these teams do have to be dealtwith in some way, shape or form,
well there's one less team where youcan pay those players. This this
is going to be the biggest league. This is it's it's going to happen.
Is it going to be completely smoothapps a freaking lily? Not like
it's just not just they've got toothese guys, man, they've got too
(29:52):
many dreams like and and their theirrealities to them because they have capital where
you know me, man, I'mlike, can we we get this done?
Okay, now that that's done, let's get this done. Now,
let's get this I build foundations andthen I go from there. These guys
are like, okay, well you'refootage in the foundation. We got a
roof, Like, wait, youcan't put a roof up before the foundation's
done. These guys are going andthey're gonna it's they're gonna crack some egs,
(30:15):
but they're gonna make an online. There was a part of seeing some
of these comments on social media andseeing the national buzz coming from X and
Twitter and Facebook. The negativity Youand I could probably do another two and
a half hours that really that's moreprobably a societal problem and media a problem
that everyone wants to focus on thenegative before the positive of what's the juici
(30:36):
or TMZ gossipy story that can goviral with the photo than how awesome was
the Albani Orlando game. How greatdid Nashville do on their returns? I
think Billing's Montana was another standout fromthe league. Like there were some people
across the league that did it right, but it's far less about people giving
those markets credit as it is themarkets that did it wrong. In to
(30:59):
your All Many Firebirds and you listeninghere in the Capitol region, it is
a cool thing. I think cooleis the word. I'll use that when
they say here's who did it right, and here's who did it wrong,
and everyone keeps showing the all ManyFirebirds is this is how you do arena
football. It's a compliment and itfeels great and nice, but you have
to have every As the coaches usedto say, you're as good as your
(31:19):
worst player, Like that's exactly right. You can do as great as you
want for one city, but everybodymatters for the success of this thing going
forward. Well, so I justlike we learn, we've been learning right,
Like we we've obviously recently made mistakes, you know, So it's not
like we're sitting here pretending that weyou know, we got this right overnight.
(31:41):
Like we we've been learning we've fallen, We're getting up. We've fallen,
We're getting up. But the numberone thing is and this is the
this is the number one thing. If you do this one thing, you
can become a great team. It'sit's it's this, this symbol, this
simple take care of your players. If you take care of your players,
(32:04):
you can become a great team. Why did Philip Barnett, Darius Prince,
Sean Lockett and I don't know whydo all these guys want to come to
Albany? Because if we don't thinka helmet safe, we're gonna go buy
a safe helmet. If we don'tthink the this is it, this is
where they should be, We're gonnago find a way to get them where
(32:25):
they should be. Now, isthat financially fiscally responsible? Not always.
Is there a chance you getting upin a little bit of debt? Yep?
Is there? But is that thenumber one thing? Yep? If
you take care of your players. And that's where some of these some of
these teams at this moment. Maybemaybe it's I don't think it's on purpose.
(32:51):
I don't think these guys are likethese people want to pay them all
be slimming. I don't think theyknew what they're getting into. I mean,
that's what I'm choosing to go with. And again I don't have all
this, I don't have all thedetails. But if you don't take care
of your players, you will fallon your face. I want to go
back to that because I think somebodyare going to little get confused about what
you mean, like, Okay, they weren't prepared for this. They look
(33:14):
at a team like Philadelphie say, what do you mean Like Philadelphia used to
be the franchise. I mean allthey played them. So things have happened
within the course of seventeen of Phillyin twenty twenty five, owners like you
the you know, some of usare back from the NAO, very fewer
back from the AFL, the originalNFL. There's a lot of a lot
(33:34):
of owners from the used to bein the CIF and hearing this. But
that's the thing is like Lee Huntinghas worked with these guys, tried to
get them. Matt Haines in thefront office, he's trying to get behind
them. Sorry, he's trying toget people on the level. He's trying
to teach him. He's working withthem, so it's a it's a whole
thing. It's a process. You'rebuilding the league. Everybody freaked out when
the AFL came back to those eighteenbecause had four teams. So this AFL
(33:59):
tried to come out with sixteen.I think a couple of these teams needed
to kick next year. Thank youfor saying that, because my next question
was gonna put you, I thought, in an uncomfortable spot. I'm uncomfortable
right now. No, I'm I'mnot all right. Sorry, I did
all right. No, No,you're fine. I'm just I don't like
(34:19):
the common in other people's work.Yeah, because again, we're a league,
and if this all goes, ifthis all goes according to plan,
we all need to ultimately come together, like there was a fight on the
field Saturday night. One of thelast days I did before I went to
bed was reach out to John Cheney, the owner of the Orlando Predator,
Sean the GM of the Ellen Prether. Hey, save travels. Your team
(34:43):
is really freaking good you too,see in the playoffs. That's what it
was just going to that too, like the camaraderie of the teams that are
doing it well, and back tothe teams that are struggling in the question
about twenty twenty four and twenty twentyfive. It's easy for us to say
that on a Monday, you know, like the term a Monday morning quarterback
of ooh yeah, that didn't gowell, how could that have gotten fixed?
(35:05):
It's a little bit different though,to that level of hey, we
had an interception, or we playedwar, had a bad show, had
a bad set. Like when yougo back and reflect on things you could
have changed, that's life. Weall get that decisions were made, you
go on with it. I thinkthe problem that some people nationally that they
don't understand this, maybe even herein the Capital Region, is that,
Okay, there was months to buildup to this, Why weren't certain things
(35:28):
in line before the kickoff? Andthat answer I don't think you have,
Like that's a Lee Hutton question, that's an organization by organization question. Well
you know what happens though, too, Like I've seen this. When you
get into it, everyone's gonna helpyou, right. So, Like if
you're I don't know, let's sayyou own a fire and water restoration company
(35:49):
the Capital Region, everybody you dobusiness, Oh man, I'm ready at
whatever you need. Oh awesome, great sponsorships to this early and then you
call them and they go, oh, you wanted money, Oh no,
no, I was. I meantlike I was gonna help you with other
things like that was gonna buy sometickets where it's like, oh okay,
and like, I guarantee some ofthese guys got into this thing and we're
(36:12):
like, this is perfect. Everybody'sgot our back. We're just outside of
Philly because of the way the arenaswent, and that's it. Some of
the arenas are being messed with byother leagues, so some of these teams
have changed where they are already. It's it's been it's war. Nobody wants
the AFL to work but the AFLand the players because again lots more money
in the AFL than all the otherleagues. It's been war. They've been
(36:36):
trying to keep it out. Iguarantee a lot of these guys came in
this going, oh, it's gonnabe great. Gods is gonna buy this
amount of advertising, and uh,Boston Dan is gonna buy a bunch of
advertising, and uh President Howard isgonna buy advertise, and then they're gonna
they're gonna feed the player, helpme and this hotel said they're gonna help,
and this was said, and thenthe hotel calls you go, oh
yeah, no, I'm gonna help. I held the rooms for you,
(36:58):
but I'm charging you full price. It's like, well, oh wait a
minute, that's that's how that's that'snot a very good business model. So
it's like, I guarantee a lotof these guys got into and thought they
had the world, that they're back, they were gonna be good to go,
and then when they turned around, nobody's standing there. It could be
lack of experience in the sports industry. It could be just a hope.
There's the answer to that question Iasked, is a different answer for Philly
(37:19):
that it might be for Louisiana. It might be a different question for Louisiana
than it is for a different market. And that's gonna be the tough part
here for the Arena Football League, and it will eventually affect the capital region
of what opponents are scheduled, who'ssupposed to come win, what's the playoffs
look like, how many teams qualify? What's twenty twenty five looked like.
There might be teams who are indifferent leagues right now, who look at
what the Arena Football League. Certainteams didn't said we do that better.
(37:42):
We want we want in Hey,they're out or in now. It ebbs
all the time, mostly in collegesummer leagues and other leagues, but professional
leagues too, Nike, we cando this better than them. We want
to bid and I'm sure commit, sure Hunt will balance that as we go
forward. Has everything else happen,So look, that's happening nationally. But
I if you're not thinking of theplayers, yeah, that's all. If
(38:06):
you're not thinking of the players, because you can't ast for help. If
you're not taking care of the players, you don't think you have to,
you don't belong. Look what's happenedover the last twelve months, how players
were treated here in the Capitol region. From when you are the team president
and you are now Mike is theowner. Mike, Now, what the
roster look like after you guys left, What the roster is now, what
Orlando's roster was out there? Thosethings all matter. By the way,
(38:28):
Thursday, when the Albany Firebirds areback in action, that's right, quick
turn around. We're gonna enjoy Lavackhere in studio. I'm banking on this
being the final day he's in studiothis week. That National's awesome. The
National Cats are great. I've nevercovered the Cats because they haven't been around.
But you talk about another really goodmatchup on Thursday in a franchise who
did it a right and has afan base and I want to call it
(38:51):
a regional following already after one game. That's gonna be another exciting game inside
MVP Arena on Thursday night. Yeah. And then again they're taking care of
their player. They get Jeff Fisherinvolved, you know, like I don't
know, I don't know the extentof his involvement, but like that guy
knows football, you know, heknows that together players and it ain't easy,
dude, it ain't easy, youknow, finding the place to live
(39:13):
and you know, meals and allthis because they don't make a lot of
money. You gotta take care ofthem. Once you do that, everything
else will come together. That's that'sthe key. But yeah, this uh,
this Nashville team, I'm excited. This is one of the teams we
get to play a home and awaywith. Uh, So I really want
to start to and oh if wecan get we get that same energy.
(39:34):
Was that saying, keep that sameenergy that we had in game one.
In game two, Nashvill doesn't standa chance. I'm sorry, you don't,
our guys. Our guys weather atough storm. I said this to
Dave, and today I didn't knowhow he was gonna take it. Damon,
Warehead, coach. We'll talk tohim tomorrow, I said, Coach,
I am, I feel like youroffense is one of those ones that
people think they understand it until thegame starts, the first time they're in
(39:59):
it, and then it takes themlike half a game to go, oh,
this is what he meant, andhe like smiled at me and he
goes, I can't really argue thatright now, you know what I mean.
It's like his offense is set ina certain way and there's certain things
and it's like you saw Jake Medlockchange the way he ran as the game
went later in the game, heran a little bit more, you know.
I was like something about this offenseopens up some running lands for the
(40:22):
quarterback. So like you see it, like these guys are now now they've
now they've they've used the offensive planin battle, and they're only gonna get
better from here. So Nashville. We appreciate you taking the trip up.
Hopefully this shows a lot of hospitalitywhen we get down there for our part
of this trip. But you won't. You won't get beat up home.
It won't happen. I feel sogood, it seems so good. It's
(40:43):
just a great group of guys.Really, really is I think one of
the people people's businesses that deserves creditfor some of the success that the Albudy

wager? I mean, like Ijust had our buddy Bill Fish ask on
(46:37):
Twitter. Do we have the officialYankees Orioles wager? Yet? Do we
know? Do we decide this rightnow? Like? Oh, I mean,
I'm ready. I'm gonna win,so I don't care. All right,
let's go through the details here. You are convinced that the Yankees not
just will be better than the Oriolesthis season, but will potentially win the
(46:57):
World Series. Your World Series pickis the New York Yankees. That is
correct. That is my World Seriespick. I cowered away and picked the
Dodgers and the Rangers. My finalwonder very chalk as much as I want
the Oriols. So there's two wayswe can do this wager. Wager Number
one would be what team No.Three ways we can do this wager.
Okay, wager number one. Whatteam goes further in the twenty twenty four
(47:21):
postseason. That would be wager numberone, because if you go further in
the postseason, you could be viewedas some more successful season. I think
that's the That's usually what I gowith. Okay, that's number one,
And now I use regular season winsas a tiebreaker. That would be number
two. What team at the endof the regular season finishes with more wins
the Oriols or the Yankees, orNumber three, which I think would provide
us more content during the year,is who wins the season series between the
(47:45):
teams. The Yankees are the Orioles. That way, they played each other
fifteen times. I believe the numberis we'd have an eight to seven winner.
There would be no potential for atie. Who if I could make
my suggestion, you know what I'dlike? Okay, I would like the
season series because the Yankees had dominatedthat for so long. I would thirteen
(48:07):
games. Oh, thirteen, Ithink I said fifteen thirteen you did,
but that's okay. Well, Ithink I think we do two bets.
I think we do the season seriesand then whoever goes farther, and the
tie break is regular season wins.Okay, you know what I was gonna
say, We can't do two betsbecause we could potentially even but you had
a quick tie breaker there, yes, you know. Okay, so that's
(48:30):
the bet. Bet one is seasonseries, so like you could win one
column here further in the playoffs here, and if it's one one a piece,
regular season wins determines who had abetter season, Orioles or Yankees.
Okay, I'll see. I wasgonna say, you win something for the
first one. Oh, there's multiplepractices. Second one, all right,
alright, I'm fine with that.Like you're gonna do it, you know,
(48:51):
best two out of three and ifyou sweep, there's gotta be a
punishment on the top. Oh,I wish I had, I wish I
had a bit off the top ofmy head quickly. I was just trying
to get to the bottom of thebat. Okay, so let's do the
thing. What's something Baltimore that you'dhave to give me if I win,
actually go to Baltimore. That'd bea hilarious punishment. You have to go
(49:12):
to like go to the Hooters inBaltimore and bring you back six hours six
hours back. Uh, we willfigure that out. Okay, So I
think we've it's more important we've settledon this. The Oriols Yankees bet is
settled. We will figure out thepunishments and everything else in due time.
All right, But there you go, domination from the Yankees. My friend
starts tonight, can't wait, veryexcited. Hees game back Losers. That's
(49:38):
great. You just think you getyou get You get to host this game
too. You're the home team.Yes, what do you think is gonna
happen tonight? I feel very goodabout the Orioles. I feel very good
about my beloved squad here anything aboutBaltimore versus New York early in this season.
The Yankees are coming off a seriesagainst the Oakland Athletics recently this past
(50:01):
week, where I think Oakland showedthey have one of the best I was,
yeah, yeah, I want toI want to ignore the Milwaukee Park
because they played well, oh yeah, they still split the series with the
I got you love back. Iwant to ignore the whole thirty run thing
you teased into it and everything else. Well, Baltimore had a series with
(50:23):
the Angels where Mike Trott was smashingthe ball over the field, and they
played the Oakland Athletics and they losttwo of three. With that best bullpen
in baseball. They've been tested bygood teams, Baltimore, is what I
was going to at that point. While the well, the Yankees have played
the Marlins and the Diamondbacks, whodo stink. Actually they both do stink.
(50:45):
So Baltimore's what what a month ago? I said, the Dimacks for
the defending So the Blue Jays,Guardians, Blue Jays Rays, Brewers,
like, that's we just we're justgoing to point out the teams that stink
that that the Yankees have played isthat I need the argument to work in
my favor right now. There's nota lot of details that are so I
need to leave some of those Fieltown. It's not gonna happen. I need
(51:07):
some details out of that. Okay, Like they played the best team in
baseball in the Guardians right now,and maybe the offense is better than Baltimore's.
Those things don't work in my favorwhen I'm talking about Baltimore Guardians two
out of three times, still don'thave our ace back. Haven't waived the
wile the white flag to bring uptalent from the farm system. Oh and
(51:29):
then send them back. Yet Iwas gonna say, Jackson Holiday won't struggle
in the series. No, no, no, it should be nice and
comfy down on the miners watching it. Baltimore's got this all right. I
could feel it, I can tasteit. Is. This means more to
Baltimore than New York because what wasit a couple of years ago? It
(51:49):
was like outrageous, was like thirteento one. The winning streak that New
York had over Baltimore was outrageous fora divisional foe. They got their best
on the mount. They got Rodriguez, so what if he was drafted after
Kyler Murray in the Major League BaseballDraft. They got my boy, Kreamer
ak Krey mar Kremer. I've calledthem three different things over the last year,
(52:12):
but I love Dean and they gotCorpin Burns, the big time acquisition
before the season. And then theundefeated. This guy's never lost the game
in the history of things to bedetermined? Has he ever pitched before?
That doesn't undefeated? Okay, nowwe're talking oriole baseball. So there we
go. Of those thirteen games, four will go in favor of Baltimore.
(52:37):
Don't feel great about tonight's, butafter that I feel a lot better.
Yeah, I think you're I thinkyou're I think you're nervous. Sounds like
you're scared, sounds like you knowyou're gonna start losing tonight. All right,
Okay, they're gonna fire a textoff to our friend Lynn during this
series. We have to start blowingup our phone tonight about oriol Yankee fans
(52:59):
are because Yankee fans, so weknow. Yeah, she makes me like
she's actually pinstripe pants. She's moreviolent than I'm about it too. Uh.
I feel like I know the answeralready, but I'll ask it.
What series is more impactful for thoseteams for the rest of the season.
More recently, the A's Series forthe O's or the Brewers Series for the
Yankees. I have a feeling whatyour answer is going to be. Well,
(53:22):
I mean that Brewers series. Tosee the bats come alive, that
was big. The A's series forthe O's. Like, what what do
make your case? Like I'm saying, Like for the Yankees, you saw
the bats come alive against the againstthe solid roster and just thirty, like
I said, thirty runs in twogames, fifteen to fifteen. That's it's
impressive, not just the solid roster, but the National League Central leading Milwaukee
(53:47):
Brewers, who got pounded. Eventhough they got pounded and gave up those
thirty runs in two games, stilllead the National League Central. And all
I'm yelling about is, Hey,the A's have a great bullpen. Yeah,
guys, who's in the bullpen?A former Division III pitcher and an
NAI A pitcher. So so youso you're making my point for me at
(54:07):
this point, You're retreat. I'mnot retreated for the season, Okay,
not retreated for the season, notretreated on the bet. I don't feel
great about tonight. I'll tell youan answer about Tuesday. Wednesday I feel
better about than Monday. And Tuesdayand Thursday. I don't know yet.
So for the season, I feelgreat. For the postseason, I feel
(54:29):
great the next four games. Theconfidence is not great right now. But
nine other ones I can give you. I feel great about the other nine.
Tonight not so much. H Well, I mean, you're it's so
much fun to watch you just scramble, it really is. So you know
that you're not as good. No, no, no, Rodriguez, Cortes,
(54:51):
Kremer, Hill Burns, and thenCarlos rodon Versus a pitcher to be
named later who hasn't lost yet,if I pointed out, hasn't lost yet,
but maybe he did. Baltimore's young, they're fresh. I would have
felt so more camp, so muchmore confident in this series. If Jackson
Holliday was hitting the baseball, thebest prospect in baseball, as we both
said, he got sent down,I would have felt more confident about Baltimore.
(55:13):
If they didn't look bad against thatbullpen in the aightes. They didn't,
I would have felt better if theYankees didn't score thirty runs against one
of the best teams in the NationalLeague. There's about five other things that
could have happened going into this seriesthat I would have been wearing orange today.
I'm gonna busted out the oriole Polo. I might have found a hat,
all right, I don't have alot of oriol hats, but I
would have found None of those thingshappened. In fact, all the opposites
(55:35):
of those things happened going into thisseries. I just want to keep harping
on this young thing. Austin Wells, Glabor Torres, Oswaldo Cabrera, Anthony
Volpei, Juan Soto. Are theynot young? Nobody on that list is
over thirty. Yeah, but notas good as the Oriel prospects. I
(55:58):
mean not as good because they're notprospects anymore. The Oriels are still prospects.
These are big league players now,so are the Orioles. Dude,
Wells pretty good. You're the onecalled them prospects and they Rushman's pretty good.
I think it's pretty good. Whowould you rather have? Oh my
gosh, Rushman all day? DidI tell you how big Jordan Westburg's war
(56:22):
was earlier this month. Yeah, how'd that work out for him? War
Pick showed up in studio, sonot as well, didn't he? Yeah
he did. Yeah, there yougo. I was more concerned about war
picks showing. All right, Sothe bet starts tonight. We will figure
out how the game results for youknow what, that's a good idea.
I love that idea. Whoever winstonight's game figures out the remaining details of
(56:45):
the wager. So if Baltimore wins, we're gonna lead off tomorrow's show,
unless Lebron does something wild tonight.Of I didn't agree to this what you
think it was the first series, the first series. It could be too
too though. We'll compromise after that. That's fine. I think that I're
not gonna be gon. We're gonnasweep your goofy butts. But something good
(57:07):
will happen for Baltimore, Thank youwill. Yeah, something good, something
very good is happening for Baltimore. They're selling a lot of tickets that the
Yankees are in town. You're welcome, you are welcome. Congratulations. We
gotta gets our number two, butbefore we do, let's talk about our
