Here we are in the GT Toysstudio. That's toys with a z
Lavacon. Guys, back from alittle bit of a long weekend. It
didn't feel long enough, to beperfectly honest with you, when the alarm
(00:26):
went out this morning felt like avery short weekend. Somehow that extra day
makes it feel shorter. I don'tknow how that works. It's a mental
thing. But hopefully everybody had agreat weekend and took some time yesterday.
I remember, you know, thereason for the holiday that we were celebrating
the lives that and the soldiers whowent out there and gave all so that
(00:47):
we could have barbacues and football andcraziness and the American way. I'm pretty
sure that's how it was originally planned. Just yes, I think it was.
I enjoyed my first Memorial Day paradewith my kids, so that was
fun. They got candy. Itwas awesome, would you well? I
c's yes, and Camillas Rex isright in the front row grabbing the candy
at nine thirty in the morning. Both boys didn't sleep very well last night,
(01:11):
just loaded up on candy. Thankyou. When did you come back
to the cab reck My wife's flightgot delaid ninety minutes. Ninety minutes.
Yeah, but you didn't tell methat. Oh, so I got her
dinner and there I did. ThereI sat in the car eating alone because
the restaurant's four minutes from the airport, and then I went right back into
that restaurant. People consider the airportbeer the number one beer. I don't
(01:34):
know where the kids were at thegrandparents By the way, I don't know
where airport delay waiting for flight beeris, but it's close to one by
myself, piecing quiet, nowhere togo. Kids at grandparents' house are there?
He sat alone this morning. Imade a guest appearance on our sister
station WGI with a Doug in themorning. And he after he done,
(01:55):
he goes, I just God confusesme sometimes he goes. I thought I
thought he was giving me a brandof beer that he liked, and he
was talking about flight, like aflight He goes to a flight beer and
I was like, and he's justso, you know, so I'm sitting
there and I'm trying to find flightbeer. Take him up on it and
figure out what he's talking about. And uh, and then I realized he
(02:17):
meant like drink, Like drinking inthe airport is what he meant. And
I started laughing. I was like, yeah, you know, he's a
different He's different. I felt sobad, friend, because Doug taught me
the term teetotaler. I had neverheard that before. He is a teetotaler,
so I really had him in apretzel. He had no idea what
I was talking about. He's reallyhe doesn't drink. Did I say that
(02:38):
correctly? Yeah, he doesn't drinkat all. T T. Totler,
fan of all those Boston teams, and he doesn't feel the need to drink.
No interesting. Dean Martin once thatI am. I pity people who
don't drink. Yeah, they've howeverthey feel on the wake of the morning
(02:58):
is the best they're gonna feel allday. I have been on an absolute
high since Friday night. And ifyou were not at the MVP Arena,
you blew it because that was youknow. I've been in that building for
four Arena football championships and one wayor another. Ninety nine, I was
(03:21):
there as a as a fan,left early. I admit it. I
left early because that's we're meeting friendsfor drinks. And then of course nineteen
you and I were on field MCSfor the Empire twenty one and twenty two,
I was the team president and thisFriday Night's game, which Steve from
(03:46):
Flock support, where as I callhim father Flocker, he came up with
the name and I've stolen it everran with it, The Miracle on South
Pearl Street. What did you guyscall it on the broadcast when whenever the
did you call it? Did youtry to name it? No, we
didn't name it. We were justkind of lost and caught up. Credit
to andrews stand till on my broadcastpartner handling it really well. Shot out
(04:10):
to Steve, I think that nameis going to stick around for a long
time. So when you hear itused, Steve, put your hand on
me, like I came up withthat, the Miracle on South Pearl Street,
which is I'm getting chills thinking abouthow cool it was. Like the
best way I can describe what happenedon Friday, sitting here on a Tuesday
is it's finally starting to sink infor me, which might be the coolest
thing you can give to a sportsmoment a game. Amy Bernard from the
(04:32):
Office had the famous quote, Iwish there was a way to know you're
in the good old days before you'veactually left them. Like that's kind of
how I feel right now, LikeI wish I understood what was happening Friday
night while it was happening, becauseit was like that type of moment.
And if you if you don't,if you have no idea what we're talking
about. The Almighty Firebirds hosting theWest Texas Desert Hawks, which is which,
(04:56):
believe it or not, is arivalry because of the the former versions
of the two teams. The AlbanyEmpire is where it was one of the
games that we were there for intwenty one that they announced that team,
which at that point was the warBirds, was going to be joining the
league we were in, and theownership there and the ownership here which has
(05:18):
changed slightly, we became we becamefriendly and we talked about, you know,
how we would do it and allthese other things. Now here we
are where we're both in the AFL, different Firebirds, Desert Hawks, Jonathan
Bayne, former Empire, Calvin Fance, like Kenny, so many guys and
(05:41):
then guys that like were villains tous. Lannie Outlaw, the big tall
wide receiver, Devin Wilson, thebig tall wide receiver who both always went
against us. You know, Outlawwith Columbus and then I think he was
with Carolina, and then Devin Wilsonwas with Jacksonville for a lot of his
career. This team was really, really good, and we knew this was
(06:04):
gonna be a fight. The fireBirds knew it was gonna be a fight,
full confidence we would win the thing. Nobody knew that we were gonna
score our first point on the openingkickoff with a rouge, which is they
can't get out of the end zone. They field it in the end zone,
they can't get out of the endzone. You tackle them in there,
you get a point. So ifone nothing, it was like a
(06:24):
minute and a half later they score. If even yes, the Firebirds did
not lead again with time on theclock because while time is expiring, we
kick another rouge and take the leadand win. But eleven points in eleven
seconds for the Albney fire we gotto run it back even further because there
(06:46):
are people who are listening right nowwho did not hear about the Fiber game
or not at the Firebird game. This is a little old school sports radio.
We're about to do, like breakdown what happened in the game,
like play for a play, likeit's twenty twenty four. We all know
everybody's got phones, but it reallyneeds to be explained because there are some
people who saw the clips online andare actually confused by what in the world
(07:06):
happened on Friday night. So letme go even further back, Levac to
one minute left to go in thegame. One minute left to go in
the game. The Firebirds are downten with no timeouts and they don't have
the ball. So hear that outloud again. It into football. You're
down double digits without the ball, with no timeouts. So all West Texas
(07:31):
has to do. Unless I'm wrong, unless something have behind the boards that
you heard, all they had todo was fall forward twice. Right,
You can't kneel in the ire infootball. You have to make forward momentum.
So all you have to do isfall forward twice and the game is
over. So I'm like, okay, the game's over. Everyone knows the
game's over. All bands got todo is get a snap from center.
(07:53):
Do the old push push in thegame's over. In West Texas walks off
the turf with a win, theylose yards on reconsecutive place handoffs QB sneaks
like that is remarkable that they couldnot get one positive inch going forward for
a three consecutive plays. And becauseof that and the rules of arena football,
(08:13):
the clock stops every single time albodygets the ball back. All many
scores, there's eleven seconds on theclock. That's when things got absolutely insane.
Do you want to take it fromthere? Or you want to keep
going because I what happens in thosenext you know, I'm taking to the
back because I want to put youin my shoes here. Okay, okay,
As the broadcaster of the team,I'm going to say what like as
(08:35):
as somebody who was, I wouldn't. It wasn't part of the rulesmittee.
But when when the season began,or before the season began, Damon Wair
went through the rules with me andI didn't. Some rules came from the
CIF. Because there's a lot ofteams coming in the league from the CIF,
some were from the original AFL,some were from the NAL. There
(08:56):
were there were rules I thought fellout that clearly did not, and maybe
the only person the entire league whowas paying attention was Damon Ware. All
right, now, you you tellme how you what you saw, because
I'm over in my end zone goingall all right, scart a touchdown,
two pointer version. Now we're downtwo, kick a deuce. Take this
(09:18):
in the overtime and get the w. That's what we're doing, Okay,
in the broadcast and go listen toit on YouTube. We're breaking down the
scenarios of how you get to four. So all of a sudden, we
hear the PA announcers say, andthey're going for the four point play.
Yeah. I'm gonna sound like I'mbeing too selfish here, but I'm really
not inside the headset with guys hereduring the broadcast. Okay, so game
(09:39):
one of the season. The NALand I believe the Arena Football leage from
twenty nineteen to the NAL of twentyone and twenty two, they had the
we'll call it the NFL version ofovertime. One team got the ball,
the other team got the ball, and that's what the rule was in the
past. But in twenty twenty four, sudden depths overtime really didn't matter in
the overtime win over or Orlando becauseboth teams at the ball anyway correct.
(10:01):
So it became a mood point atthat point of the games you and I
have ever attended. Unless your memoryis better than mine, I never even
remember a three point play being attempted. These came from the CIF roll book.
Okay, let alone a four pointplay correct. So in the CIF
rule book, and again we hadthere was six or so teams that came
from the CIF, the Continental IndoorFootball League, whatever the hell it is.
(10:28):
You can go for two from whereyou kick it. You can go
for three from five yards back,or you can go for four from ten
yards back, and if you completethat pass or run or whatever and you
score, you get four points fromten yards back. The beauty of the
(10:48):
four point conversion is again, inmy opinion, it's threefold. One I
was almost positive we got rid ofit. Two they changed the rules last
week leading up to the game tochange substitutions, so again I'm almost positive
(11:09):
they got rid of it. Andthen three and this is why I like
it the most is Damon ware, who I don't think he's able to join
us today. He is he's gotto do some stuff for the team,
and that there's but he and Iquote, I will never use that gimmicky
(11:33):
BS. But he didn't say BS. He said the words end quote.
So he said, I will neveruse the three or the four point play.
There gimmicky their BS. Here weare now let score a touchdown.
There's eleven seconds left. It notgimmick if you're trying to tie there's like
(11:54):
four seconds left or whatever. Itcomes down because we scored with the eleven
seconds left. So now there's Hecalls the ref over. I go for
four. Right, ref goes yousure as hell can, Yes, go
ahead, lines up, go forfour. Metlock drops back. Darius Prince
is open. He runs in,he gets covered up. Metlock rolls in
(12:16):
the back of the end zone.Is number eleven, Philip Barnett. Barnett.
He throws the ball up over thedefender. Barnett gets up high enough,
grabs the ball, comes down withit. We're tied. We're tied
now because of this four point it'sfour point conversion. Now hopefully coach waar
joins us, I know he's busytoday. We have Flock universit. It's
gonna air here on Fox Sports ninetyfive nine ninety on Saturday. We are
(12:37):
gonna hear from coach Ware at somepoint this week. Hopefully has time for
us tomorrow, Thursday or Friday, because we've all got a lot of questions
for him. But Flock University mightget the first bite's pun intended there.
So okay, so listen to whatwe just talked about there. They couldn't
get a knee. West Texas alreadyties the game. Here's the part that
people also might not remember from thegame that should be talked about. So
(13:00):
the kickoff goes, The kickoff happensfirst, and it's blown dead because from
our broadcast view, unless you've gotsomething different down on the turf, the
officials were not lined up properly,so one of the officials was too close
to the West Texas bench, right, is that what happened? Well,
then we were told that West Texascalled the time out. Okay, but
(13:20):
that's what we thought it was.But I think he was over there because
Chris Siegfried, who is the headcoach for West Texas. I think he
wanted to try and ice Mark Rosco, our kicker, So I think that's
why he was like, don't doit yet, don't do it yet,
go call the time out. AndRosco did kick the football. So when
(13:41):
the whistle was blown, if mymemory serves correct, the ball was in
the air right, So the ballis like no, no, no,
I think I'm actually wrong about that. The ball was the whistle I believe
started right before his foot hit theball, but right because again I think
I think Safrey was trying to icehim. If you watch it back on
you YouTube, the sound of thewhistle doesn't come through the broadcast, so
(14:03):
the full kick goes through, soAndrew calls it like, okay, now
it's a dead ball. Right fromthat perspective, it's like whoa wait a
second, all but he's got another. And then of course the one the
walk off and everything. Yeah, the rouge where you hit, you hit
the thing, they receive it,you tackle on the end zone. We
went by one with the walkoff score, so the first and last point of
(14:24):
the game were rouges and uh andin one other part, I got id
real quick on that four point play. Seven seconds did run off the clock,
so run from eleven seconds to fourseconds. A lot of times that
outdoor football, those are untimed downs. So if the clock doesn't go to
four seconds, Albany would have hadto play defense one more time against West
(14:45):
Texas. It was, I mean, it was, it was amazing.
It was, it was crazy,it was And like I said, even
you know Chris sick Free, thecoach for West Texas, who was the
commissioner of the NAL, not theCIF he flied outside, Hey, I
guess that that got passed me inthe rule book. And the reason that
I don't I wouldn't crush him forthat is simply put like I didn't know
(15:09):
if they changed it, because wetalked about getting rid of it. Because
there was the point when the firstrule book came out this year everybody fought
for what they were used to right. So like the CIF guys all fought
for their rules, the NAL guysoff, we were basically fully transitioned to
AFL already, so we were fightingfor AFL rules. There was a point
(15:31):
where when the first time that weall got together and heard what the head
of officials and everything said, itwas, Hey, there's rules in here
who actually kind of contradict each other. So we're gonna sit down and go
through it again, and it youknow it was you had to really really
look and read the verbiage to seethat. But that was the very first
rule book, So like that changed, so I thought a lot of that
(15:52):
stuff fell out. And again lastweek we went from Ironman football to unlimited
substitution because we were pretty much unbeatable. If you want, if you stayed
iron Man, we we are theWe were built so perfectly for iron Man
football that I feel like that's whythey changed it, because we're the only
team that was built perfectly for it. That also was a huge factor in
(16:15):
the second half too, like thatiron Man's storyline felt to be the storyline
of that game early on. OfWait a second, all, but if
they had the iron Man rules, would have a second half comeback like they
did against the Orlando and Nashville.Wait a second, different rules. This
is going to be far harder ifa comeback because of the league structure.
Now right, everybody's fresh. We'rebuilt for it. We're you know we
we you know you you merely adoptediron Man football. We were forged by
(16:38):
it. Made by it, sojust in it's just insane, just probably
my favorite game ever. Like andto be where we were. Could you
see how quickly the three owners wereon the field, I said, Andy
Gelcher went over that wall like ahurdler. Mike Quarter's right behind him.
(17:00):
Richie had his kids with him,so Richie, like you saw Richie.
Richie was like, I'm gonna go, and then he's like, I mean
to get my kids first, andthen we opened the game. We were
all out there. I saw MarkBardak today, who does a lot of
great things for NIRA, for bellmatfor Saratoga. He bumped, We're just
chataway. He's like, Hey,how's the team doing? Talking about the
Firebirds. Yeah, And I said, if you want to see passion from
local ownership, go find the cutof Andy Golcher and Richie and Mike Korda
(17:26):
and what they did at the endof You're Not finding Eddy owners showing that
type of that was my favorite moment, watching you guys and your and your
colleagues doing what you guys did onthe turf, showing the emotion like that.
I'm literally the only reason I'm likethe last one out is like I'm
i had to turn to look atsecurity. Oh they're the owners. They're
(17:47):
the owners. It's okay because you'renot. You don't stow them the field
at MVP, you know what Imean? And like and like and this
group of owners waiting for the clockto go zeros before they got out there.
I'll give them more credit than formerguys. But like I mean,
it was, it was, Itwas amazing. It was. I was
on such a high from it thatwhen I got home. And it's funny,
(18:08):
because you and I had the bethow long would take me to get
home? I left. I washome before midnight, but I was not
sleeping. I was. I literallyI sat out back and I watched the
game on YouTube and then I camein. I grabbed my daughter. I
woke her up. I was like, you gotta watch the end of this
game. Like that's that's how that'show great that game was. We got
one more guaranteed home game this year, June sixteenth, and right now it's
(18:32):
against the Slanta Liberty. I ifyou don't get tickets to that game,
and you ever complain about not like, I don't feel like I we we
lose good teams, you are nevergonna have a group of guys this dedicated,
this excited, and this ready torepresent you again. Every other group
of people I know would have quitat some point during this game, in
(18:53):
the Orlando game, two games thisyear where they just kept fighting like the
whistle has not been blown yet, keep fighting, and that's what they did.
I said, flat out, Isaid after Orlando to a couple of
guys, I'm like, God,bless you. I was. I would
have quit. I would have beenover there hanging my head. And then
during the during Friday Nights game againstWest Texas, I called Zach bugover,
(19:18):
who was the owner of West Texas, because we had a bottle bat I
haven't heard from since, by theway, and I said, what do
you want? And what do youmean? I go, what kind of
botle do you want? This isa halftime and he goes, man,
there's a lot of real like alot he does say a lot of real
ments left, but he's like, there's a lot of game left whatever.
And I go, I know,I'm jinxing you and he he like hit
(19:40):
me in the arm, was like, get away from me. But like
that, there's still there's a partof me. It's like I want to
know what the bottle is. IfI can get it here before the end
of the game, I'll hnd itto him tonight. Like it that that
game. I've never seen anything likeit. I have never seen anything like
If you had tickets and you didn'tgo, if you thought about going,
you didn't go, you missed out. This group deserves your support. I
(20:03):
mean, we've had the firewalls, are deserved for the Patroons this year,
the thunder up up in Glens Folds. But I'll tell you right now,
I have never seen a roster ofof the top to bottom just good people.
They're just good. They're all goodpeople, and they happen to be
really good football players. It's amazing. I just again, I'm I would
(20:23):

of the yard. My lawn isso overgrown in the backyard, like the
front yard is done, but myI just I haven't been home, so
the back I was, I was. I was tempted to call him and

I am. I don't even knowwhat's going on. I want to give
us some love to social media.Remember you could always be a part of

Steve got the first comment in SteveRoden with SmackDown WW SmackDown coming this
(28:18):
Friday to the MVP Arena. Weneed to have a mohawk showdown with Spike
from the al Many Firebirds and SoloSoca. I mean, you see the
picture here, pure mohawk is Spikebecause has like the whole top of his
head that's not that's not really amohawk in my opinion, that's like shaved
sides there. But like I wouldn'tdo that to Spike. I don't know
(28:41):
how many Firebirds there are in existence. I have to believe it's endangered.
And I would not let Solo Soiclaspike them smell and spike them in a
spike like Samo and spike spike, which I mean, that's the alliteration speak
for itself. So pure style goesto Spike, our mascot. Everything else
goes to Solo because he's a bad, bad dude. We'll move on to
(29:03):
this comment Ryan wrote in when thePA announcer said the firebars were going for
a four point conversion and you heardthe crowd do a combination of whoa and
what? You could hear it onthe replay of the broadcast that I just
watched on Saturday morning. Yeah,I mean it was it, because again
it was These are the kind ofthings that if if everything had been if
(29:26):
this had been a normal year tostart, and there's the trials and tribulations
of the league itself pretty well covered, we would have had rule. We
would have done videos right where it'slike, hey, don't forget that,
you know you can go for thekicking game and continue. There's this,
there's this, there's this. Wedidn't have time because we never knew,
you know, we knew, wealways knew we were good. We knew
(29:48):
that Nashville and Orlando and West Texasand you know Slide and we knew they
were good. We good to go. We were too busy trying to make
sure everything was okay. But thoseare the things that we would have gone
through and done, and we couldn'tdo it because we didn't have time.
And this is why we call Damonwhere the professor on Flock University on Wednesday
nights. I may be the onlyone who cares, But where do you
(30:11):
find these referees for arena football games? Is from nineties? Kid? How
do they keep up with these rulechanges changing all the time? The league
hires them through it. It's likeyou have to have a certain you have
the certifications. So what they'll dois they go a reagion my region and
look for people with those certifications andthey'll hire them through that. They have
(30:32):
been fantastic the officiating crew. Ididn't like what I saw in twenty twenty
one. In twenty twenty two, twenty twenty three is a little too hard
to judge the sample size, it'stoo small. But there were some issues
with the NAL officiating. Arena FootballLeague officiating and it has been okay in
twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen, butboy, it's been really good in twenty
twenty four. Yeah, there's amiscall here and there, but the replay
(30:52):
is good. So yeah, shoutout to the officials. They don't get
enough love. And it is tough. It is tough again because there is
again. They all went into thisseason with iron Man rules, so we
had to have another set of officialsthere just to make sure that the rules
of substitutions were being followed. Andnow those people are like, hey,
(31:15):
we don't need you. You're out. It's free. It's unlimited substitutions.
Now all these these raps Shore lookused to looking around and going, hey,
wait a minute, I saw elevenleaving. Come back. Now it's
like, oh that's okay, No, go ahead, you're good, you
know what. Shout out to ninetiesKid because he does this Sometimes he gets
my mind going. He helps mesegue into spots. I didn't think I
was going to go, keeps theflow of the show going on. Shot
the nineties Kid, look back.Have you ever called in to a sports
(31:38):
talk radio show? We know youhost sports talk radio, Have you ever
actually been a caller to a showto a sports talk show enerpriz doesn't count,
like if you win to taket, not like winning a priest call in
so like it wasn't a sports stalkBut I got into radio by calling and
getting on Uncle Vito show on Picksone o six. But I did used
(32:00):
to call our before it was ourshow, two hosts before it was our
show. Uh, an individual wasnot a Yankee face kind of a hater,
and people would call me and sayyou need to call in and correct
him, and I would go onthat show all the time. I call
that show all the time. Thankyou for the confession of was it Jones
(32:22):
Schenectady? No, that was thatwas? That was after that? That
never mind, okay that one willget that one still get me killed.
Oh okay, no, no,no, that wasn't Levac by the way,
for those who might have thought hewas Jones skinned anyway, that guy
sounded a little bit like me,but he he was not as big a
fan of Marion Rovero as I am. I can tell you that. No,
it was totally anyways. I've onlycalled into a sports talk radio show
(32:45):
twice. Once I was a littlekid and they were doing like classic old
school sports talk radio trivia questions,my dad do the answer. So I
called and I won the prize. That's pretty cool, sparked the love of
sports Talck Grader. The second timeI called in was remember when the officials
were in their lockout? He's there, like we had the replacement refs.
I got all worked up on ashow not here locally in Almany, but
in Syracuse. I said, whatare you guys talking about? No one's
(33:07):
gonna celebrate when at a hockey league. Yeah, at Hockeyley's back, I'm
so happy. I'm no no onewould celebrate when officials would come back.
But I just came off a takeabout how well the AFL officials have been
in twenty twenty four, and thenI saw the visceral hate for Angel Hernandez.
(33:29):
Have you seen like people are sothrilled that this guy is retiring.
If you don't know the story,Angel Hernandez, three decades in Major League
Baseball, announced he's going to beretiring, effective immediately. As one headline
put it, ended a controversial threedecade long career. Dude, can you
imagine suing your boss over like racismand continue to work and then filing a
(33:57):
complaint over you know, Joe Torrynot liking you so changed what jobs you
were allowed to get and everything, and just consistently being known as a guy
who tried to show up other managers, teams, everything like that, and
and whatever the rule is with umpiresand officials, they had to negotiate.
I guess it was like a twoweek negotiation to get him to hang it
(34:22):
up, to get him to walkaway, Like how is that a thing?
You can't just fire him for being? Like what you don't want to
referee an umpire to be If youever officiate anything, umpire anything, you
never want to be known because whathappens is this, once you get that
(34:43):
reputation of being bad at something orarrogant at something, the Internet will never
let it go. Never, Becausewhat happened here is with every time Angel
Hernandez missed a call, people wouldfollow the Angel Hernandez tracker because everything's public
down These umpires are not just great, but these grades become public and people
can see it. They have theirown ways to figure out stricksons. So
(35:05):
there was if we had a chartof the Angel Hernandez criticism versus any other
umpire and Joe West retired two yearsago, so he's not really in this
conversation through the roof because everyone knewAngel Hernanz. You go back to twenty
twenty two, there's a wild statwhere like he had three calls reversed in
four innings, which is like, again, just you're an official, you're
(35:25):
an umpire, a referee. Youcan miss some, but because you've been
so arrogant, so wildly accepted asbeing a bad umpire, even though you
lasted three decades and according to otherpeople, aither umpires actually liked the guy,
but people were so thrilled to seehim be done because he had built
a reputation of you're the worst atthis. You gotta go hated by baseball
(35:46):
fan. Look, I really can'tthink of another example in the NBA,
the NFL hockey were not just youknow the name of an official or an
umpire, but he's hated, Likeif we played a game, if we
played the fan only feud version ofsports Stuck Radio. You mentioned that show
you used to call into might haveactually been a version of that. If
you said to name an umpire oran official. I bet Angel Hernana is
(36:08):
top answer on the board for mostsports fans. Yeah, well, or
Joe West or Joe West. Yeah, like Hockyly everybody knew because he was
jacked. But like you, youshouldn't know their names, right like you.
Realistically speaking, the only reason youwould know their names is if they
were screwing up. Like I didn'tknow Gene Sterotor until he did the stupid
(36:31):
thing with the three by five card, and I Angel Hernandez, Joe West,
those guys I know them because ifI saw them behind the plate,
I'm like, well, this isgonna be isn't be a long day?
Somebody's getting Aaron Bon's getting kicked outtoday, Like, yeah, you shouldn't
know these guys, and they makeit about them. Are our officials in
the Arena Football League, the Albanyguys, the ones who come through for
(36:53):
us, They don't, they don'twant to be known. They don't,
they don't, they don't look forthat. They just want to call good
game and get the heck off thefloor. That's what they want. So
good for them. Good for them. But thank god Angel is gone.
Oh my god, I mean, just come on, I don't know.
Every once in a while, Ihave to have a certain conversation, Hey,
(37:16):
no one's here to see you.Different things, different places, different
people, different different jobs, evenespecially within the world of football. Oh,
this and this and this. Sometimesit's a pep talk. Hey,
they're here to see the guys. You're gonna be okay, Hey, no
one's here to see you. It'sfootball, No one's here to see you,
angel baseball. I'm waiting for themoment. I know it's coming.
(37:37):
I know it's coming in my futurebecause I have two boys. I have
a third boy on the way.God willing they play sports or into sports
and having fun and finding these coolthings to do outside of school. Hopefully
it'd be cool sports a part ofit. I'm gonna hope push him towards
it. Hopefully they have fun.But I know the moment's coming where there's
gonna be a volunteer umpire to thelittle league game and he's gonna miss a
(37:58):
call whoever that soon to be dador mom is and there's gonna be some
idiot in the crowd. Come on, you're serious. I don't want to
be like. They're in jean shorts, this guy's wearing a shirt from work,
this one's got dress shoes on.Sit out, old man like I
know that guy's coming. Look, these guys are paid professional umpires at a
high level, so this comes withsome of it. It's actually been far.
(38:21):
I feel like the criticism officials, umpires referees has been a lot louder
than it's ever been in the historyof professional in college and hell high school
sports, because of technology and becauseof social media. So Angel Hernandez,
there you go. There's the positivespin. I just put on it for
you. You're really hated right now. People are so happy you were done.
You didn't commit a crime, youdidn't punch anybody. You don't even
(38:44):
seem like that bad of a personfrom all heard. Don't worry, Angel
Hernandez. Somewhere in the future someonewill be more hated than you. I
don't know, man, No,no, you gotta remember he was.
He was most people's argument for robotumpires. If there's a if there's a
(39:04):
worse version of him coming down thepipe, they may very well be the
terminator. They may be a robotlike because why would you allow it?
Why would you ever allow it?Listen, right here, we have it,
we can we'll bring out the kzone. It's gonna be and you
can just go away. We don'tneed you. You replaced yourself by being
(39:25):
that obstinate. I hope you're happy. That's right. Obstinate. It's an
awesome word. I was good man, I got thrown off by it was

What is this? This is myday? This is what my day

to talk about. You now arethe brand manager for four radio stations.
Correct, Yes, Fox Sports RadioWGY and then two and mcghipsie, that's
correct. Do you ever go like, do you do anybody? Does anybody
on the stations ever mess with somebodyelse on the stations? And You're like,
it's like raising children, like II have. I have children at
(45:45):
home and now I have children atwork. Uh not recently. So I'm
sitting here and literally during the commercialbreak. Most of my day today has
been finalizing travel for for Nashville forthe team, and the worst part about
(46:07):
it is there's so much to doback here that I'm actually not going on
the national trip, even though Isaid today I jokingly told Mike I needed
to go or else it would bea bad trip for everyone. He's like,
if you need to go, go, I go. It's too late
now. He already took care everybody, and I have plans now to keep
working while while everybody's there. Well, I think my director of Game Day
(46:29):
OPPS has decided to tease my equipmentmanager. Uh oh, the I just
get this text. Do you knowif I'm going to Nashville director of Game
Day ops, that I might notbe from my equipment manager. They're all
(46:52):
younger you know what I mean?Like it's it's all younger guys. So
I go, I go, howwould he know whether or not you were
traveling? And I certainly hope sosince I've listed you on my flights and
the hotel registration. And he goes, oh, okay, L didn't know
(47:13):
who I'm rooming with. Doesn't matterwho you're room with. It doesn't room
whoever I I tell you to roomwith. But that doesn't mean you're not
going. And it is so eithereither game day Ops is messing with the
trainer or the trainer is trying tofigure out how to ask me who they're
rooming with and doesn't have the gutsto just go, hey, you know
who I'm rooming with. I thinkthey're messing with each other. This is
(47:35):
sad. I feel bad for you. I met your trainer. I forgot
his name is Nick Evan. That'snot it. Nick is the director Game
to Own No no, No,that's not right. I think you got
it confused. No, I anyways, Nick is game Evan, and Evan
is the not I'm sorry. Thetrainer is Mike. I you said Nick,
Nick is game to ask Mike.Mike the trainer is out of this.
(47:57):
He knows, he knows he's going. He was on the tea,
was with us in twenty one.He knows exactly what's going on. He
hit me up this morning, He'slike, hey, do you have to
have the itinerary yet? Like, and I was building it as we were
talking. That was great. Nobody'smessing with Mike. Mike's too smart for
that. Okay, before Evan andNick are messing with each other. Before
you confused me Mike and now Evans? What we're gonna stick by the trainers
name I think, and the trainerand the equip manager travel with the team.
(48:20):
Oh wait a second, okay, okay, okay, equipment managers and
trainers. I met one of thosetwo this past weekend. Okay, I
don't feel as bad about screwing thatname up. Now. You should are
very different. They have to knowthey're going with the team. How are
they falling for this prank? R? Stop it. You're one of the
most you can make the list.Coaches, players, you're next. You
(48:42):
are next on. If you're notgoing, who is Who's gonna tape up
an ankle? If somebody gets hurt? You think Nick's gonna do it?
Who the game day op Scot He'snot doing it. You think you're gonna
get out there and get the oldstretcher out back. I'm not going,
I know right, even if Iwas going, I'm not doing any of
those things you took. Who wasgoing? The equipment manager, you know
who is gonna be responsible for sendingthem everyone's lockers, making sure they have
(49:04):
what they need. Helm piece breaksoff, you need the equipment manager,
kleats explode, contact falls out.Who else would be doing stop it?
Nick, Evan, Mike, Chris, whoever else is going to be thrown
out there? Ben see, Iknow your whole staff Radar he's over there
still. Yeah. I just itwas just it's just one of those things,
(49:25):
like you know, Dan, wellhe walked. This is what happened.
Evan was probably talking to Nick,so so the the equipment manager's talking
to the game day ops guy.The equipment manager goes, who's he goes,
man, I haven't seen the itinerary. I don't know who I'm with,
And then light bulb goes off overgame day. Ops, I'm a
(49:49):
mess with him. Now you sureyou're going? I mean, when they
tell you that stuff, I knowyou probably don't need you, right one
of the coaches, could you know, make sure everybody has their cleats,
right? I mean, what dothey need you for? And now all
of a sudden, the younger guy, the equipment manager, goes, oh,
man, am I And then hearingnow I start getting tax messages,
Dad Nick said, I'm not goingto Nashville. What's a sadder, more
(50:15):
depressing football travel story. This poorguy on your staff falling for a prank
that the equipment manager would not begoing on an away game, that he's
actually falling for this right now,and then we're calling him out on radio
right now in the podcast. Imean, I was just sitting here like
and I'm like, are you areyou serious? Right now? Is that
sad or this story? I'm outthe year with you talking about traveling for
(50:37):
football. So my junior year atHobart, so freshman year, I technically
red shirted. Sophomore year after campI switched position, so I went from
D line to O line, soI didn't travel my sophomore year. You
bring the again, D three, you're bringing the wide receivers, you're bringing
the running back. So I didn'ttravel my sophomore year. So my junior
year, I get to call outthe coach's office. Now this is right
(51:00):
after I tore up my shoulder, like I'm going to have surgery. They
know that, they're very aware. They're like, hey, you had a
great summer, you had a greatcamp. Just want to let you know.
We know you've been fighting for it. We just want to let you
know. We know you're gonna haveto eventually get surgery, but you're gonna
travel. We just want to letyou know. I'm fired up. I'm
like, you know what, Iput all this time and effort into this,
Like I'm so excited I'm going totravel. Like it's a competitive team.
(51:20):
I know how tough it is toget on the road to travel.
So I go for my first awaygame. I look at the travel sheet.
No, every single players on it. That's all right, No,
it's not. That's just as badas this where it's like, come on,
couldn't you just say everyone's traveling.Couldn't you just tell the equipment manager
everybody's traveling? No, because youthink about it, like if I travel
(51:43):
everybody, they don't know who theactive roster is. They know you're not
active roster because your shoulders in pieces. I suit it up. But you
could it on. Oh yeah, stood on that sideline. Oh my goodness,
that's that's not better now, youknow what well you put it like
that. It's not It's really notbetter. There I go, Mock and
Chris and Nick and Mike, andI don't know who Chris is. You
keep saying, Chris, I don'tknow. You mentioned some wild story about
(52:10):
the Orioles. I want to getinto the greatness of the New York Yankees.
Oh, but that says we didthis. I'll I'll just get into
the greatness of Aaron Judge. Oh, last thirteen games, Aaron Judge is
hitting four fifty five with a sluggingpercentage of eleven eighty two. That's very
(52:30):
good, Okay, I learned thatat Hobart and those numbers. That's incredibly
good. In the month of May, Judge played twenty four games in which
he scored twenty five runs, thirtyone hits, twelve doubles, eleven home
runs, twenty one RBI, walkedtwenty times, struck out twenty three times.
(52:54):
How did this happen? Has healways been this good? Because it
feels like I mean, he wasMVP a little while, but I was
gonna say two, even when hehit sixty plus home runs, he was
tearing it up like this when he'sbeen healthy. Is as simple as that
that when Aaron Judge is actually healthy, when Aaron Judges is one hundred percent,
he is arguably now the best playerin baseball. Like Otani's up there.
(53:14):
Obviously because of what he can do. We've called him a freak show
and is Lavas putting it out.Maybe less freak show and more freak as
it's turned into with some of thestuff off the field. But Aaron Judge
is in that conversation, if notone, then two behind. Otani is
the best player in baseball with statslike that, currently projected to score one
hundred and nine runs, one hundredand sixty two hits, fifty home runs,
(53:36):
one hundred and fifteen RBI. Yeah, and remember he had a very
slow start to the season. Helooked like he was behind early. He's
not behind anymore those types of stats. In twenty twenty four, maybe this
will be another conversation about time reflectinggreatness. But I'm in that weird spot
where I grew up in the steroidera and then saw the dead ball,
(54:00):
will call it, and then theinflated ball, and then the stats like
Aaron Judge is somewhere in between.Oh, it's Aaron Judge's stats, and
then everybody else, Like we sawMike Trout sort of doing that, but
not like this. We saw AcuniaJunior do something like that last year.
By the way, what a hugeinjury that is for the Braves, for
him tearing up his name, beingdone for the season. But this is
(54:22):
stats where I feel like we is. Any sport fan, especially baseball fan,
almost don't appreciate he's fallen into thepoolhost category Levac, where it's like,
when he is healthy and he's putup these types of numbers, he's
raising the bar only for himself, for people to reevaluate what his legacy is
as a player. It's it's insane. It is insane. He is he

is better than advertised, which isvery rare. That doesn't happen. I
mean, listen, he's so good. That Anthony Volpe is on a nineteen
game hits streak and no one's talkingabout it. That's how good, Aaron
judges. Volpe is a nineteen gamehit streak car and no one's talking about
Charcolo. Stinton's having his potentially hisbest years a Yankee. No one's talking
(55:05):
about it. Garrett Cole has notplayed a game yet, throwing a ball
yet for the Yankees. No one'stalking about it. That's how good,
Judge. In the starting pitching's BenMan, it's gotta be depressing, mean
Oels fan. No, I'm not, that's right. Okay, five straight
games, yes, five straight gamesand you're still game and a half back.

are. They're a game and ahalf ahead of you. If you're great,
what are they really great? Yes? Very great? Or else have
(55:49):
one eight of their last twelve. That's great Yankees have won h eleven to
the last fourteen. I think itis they don't play against each other against
mid June eighteenth, nineteenth, andtwentieth is the next time the Yankees and
O's face so probably back by then. Very cool. Yeah, I know
DJ L Meyhew's out there playing rightnow. It's getting ready to come back.
