W O f X Troy w gy f MHD two obning W two forty
opening, Fox Sports nine eighty ninetyfive point nine. Fact, Happy Monday,
everybody. It is time for thecd TA kickstarter. That's right.
(00:21):
So you have to wait a littlebit to let guys pepper me with stupid
questions about some game that was playingin the mall on Friday. Hi,
Levac, welcome back, Yeah, welcome back. Indeed, Yeah, you
gotta do the thing. You gottathe thing. You gotta gotta have a
thing, gotta do. You gottado the thing, unless that thing is
run for president again. Biden hasstepped aside. And here's the part that
(00:42):
makes it sports guys, new Castianoswent deep while this was happening. You
know, I was texting about Iwas texting about this, like we got
a bit. Castianis the list ofthings that have happened awful in the world
when he's homewered, it's incredible,to the point where he's first rate depends
on what side of the political youknow, Foddery on right now. You
(01:03):
know, listen, I want toplay Kate both sides. I know his
first career home run and any professionalBaseball League was the day Osama bin Laden
was killed, and that's gone onsince then. So I wrote the joke
into the thing, and then yousent me the list of things. So
it was that was my joke.It was like Biden some aside and Nick
Long fly ball. You mentioned thedeath of Asama bin Lauden, the Hot
(01:26):
Mike apology from Brenneman, Queen Elizabeth'sdeath, update on Charlie Manuel's following a
stroke, I ninety five collapsed inPhiladelphia, Trump assassination attempt, and now
Biden ending his re election bit amajor massive news stories. The home run
that shakes the world. I justwant to say, if I'm ever in
(01:48):
a plane, I'm gonna make surethat dude's not playing. At that moment,
I convinced myself so much that itwas confident, Like you know what,
everybody ran on their phone after thething happened with Biden. There's no
way there was value in that pick. There's no was gonna be really what
it was. Then I saw somepeople got it at plus seven twenty yeah,
and the most of these horsebooks werecapping it. He put one thousand
dollars on it because they knew thateverybody came running and started flooding it apparently,
(02:12):
so hey, good for you.Seize the moment. We're both in
a diinger pool. Everybody else isjudge, they're already moving on you,
and I have to wait. Comeon, Pete Alnzo, let's go.
Uh. Speaking of those Yankees numbernine, I know the Yankees are winning
right now, but yesterday and partof a six' four loss, they
Aaron Boone got tossed. He gottossed again. It's the fifth time this
(02:37):
season, thirty eighth time as amanager. Boone, as I believe,
the last four seasons, has eitherled the league in being tossed or tie
for the lead and being tossed asa manager. I think there's something to
this, Guys. I don't knowif you want to do this now or
a little bit later, but Ithink that Aaron Boone has appointments. He
(02:57):
has things he wants to do besidesmanaging baseball game. So he goes out
and he yells at the ump,he gets kicked out, and he goes
I don't know, maybe he goesback as a Martini gets his nails done.
Something's going on there with Booney.I want to do that a little
bit later. I want more intothis theory of whether or not he's timing
up his ejections for certain meals.Did he have buffalo wing dip on a
Sunday steak? Maybe? I alsowant to get to the story that you
told earlier off the air about whathappened to you while you were consuming the
(03:22):
Yankee game and the heartbreak you sufferedduring that. Oh oh oh you talking
about you talking about my my,my pop singer that lives my house.
Uh no, not that, butthe connection issue you had with some Oh
I forgot all but yeah, wecan give me right down. I'll forget
otherwise. Uh, my internet sucks, got it all right? On the
(03:46):
number eight raising Yankees are playing rightnow. Yankees are up five to one
over the Rays, trying to gettie out of this series. Can't win
it, but they can tie it. And then Mets Marlins at six forty
or baseball is eighth on the list. Two games today, both the teams
getting after it. You and Ihave been to Marlins Park before. It
(04:06):
is a beautiful stadium. It isn'ta weird spot, and I mean weird
that huh baseball stadium here? Hum? I didn't think that would be there,
but it is massive and it iscalled Now I own Deep Pot Park?
What you own the Pot? Iown Deep Pot Park? You owned
the pot? Sounds like a badphone call. I'm convinced that it's not
(04:28):
the name of the ballpark. Iassume someone spelled something wrong. There's way
too many capital and lowercase leaders inthe park name and parks. I don't
think that's the name of the park. Number seven of the CDT Kickstarter uh
is Dale Jones pulling on Aaron Rodgers. Hey, Daniel, are you cleared
to play in camp? I shouldbe ready? No, But are you
(04:50):
cleared? Yeah? I should beready to go? But are you cleared?
Should be ready to go? Areyou've actuallyated? I've got antibodies?
Wait? What what are you tryingto not say? Dale Jones learned from
his other the other New Jersey quarterback. Look at that. He sneaky guy.
What do you up to, DanielJones? And why is it sometimes
spelled with a lowercase ell in anupper case L loan dep Pot Park?
(05:12):
I own? What? Oh?No, I'm sorry? You know,
Daniel Jones? You own the Dupot? I know it, Daniel Jones.
Usually your press conference. Isn't creepingme out. You're looking around too much.
I don't know if everything's going rightupstairs. I like this. This
is a little Mark Shawn meets AaronRodgers with your own little twist to it.
Yeah, he's definitely listen. Ithink this is very simple, very
easy. I don't want to starttalking about why I'm not gonna have this
(05:33):
job in the future. Please justshut up. Let me get this done.
Number six. Over the weekend, the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame,
Welcome to class of twenty twenty four. Adrian Beltray, Todd Helton,
Joe Mauer, and Jim Leland.Gods, my favorite moment. David Ortiz
is still a jerk. Everybody knowsthat if there's one thing you don't do,
(05:53):
it's touch Adrian Beltray's head. Duringhis acceptance speech, he got him,
so I thought, I mean, somebody's gonna do that at the wrong
time, in the wrong place, and just get whooped, Just get straight
whooped. This speed that Belchrae isstill hands when he turned around, like
it's everyone has that friend or familymember that the intensity could feel it off
(06:14):
his body, like oh oh,he doesn't care where he is right.
Now, he's gonna swing, buthe's gonna hit it. Okay, all
right, Poppy kind of took offa little bit. He's still is that
intense about it? Uh. Thew NBA All Star Game was also this
weekend. At number five. TheWNBA All Stars took out Team USA one
seventeen to one oh nine. Yourgirl, Caitlin Clark Tennis sists she was
(06:36):
a playmaker, looked pretty good. She was actually asked if that you know
what, if this was proved, she should have been on the Olympic team,
to which she said, they havegot plenty of talent. She was
so perfect, so polished, theyhave got plenty of talents. I'm happy
to help them prepare prepare. ItsYou and I had the same read on
(06:57):
this game. I've seen some highlights, I've seen some footage. It was
Team USA versus Team w NBA.The whole idea of like, okay,
here's what an All Star game issupposed to feel like. It felt more
like actresses playing the role of whatyou would do in an All Star game,
like the whole super Bird Meghan Rapinoand I believe it was Aubrey Plaza.
We're all in the front row tryingto be too funny, like Megan
(07:18):
Rapino's outfit looked like she was actuallyon Saturday Night Live trying to do a
bit, and I'm like gaylic Clarktrying to show more personally. It just
felt a little forced. They're doingtheir best. I know, they had
more popularity than ever before, andthey're like, oh, you hate women,
not insane. It felt a littleforced, that's all. Maybe one
of the Bowl and Chatty Broad's Ibelieve is what you said you hated the
(07:39):
most. I heard you say thatonce. Maybe, uh carrying out with
the CD, I like women numberone. Yeah, I sure you do.
Just like him, shut up,study in the kitchen. H Sanders.
Shockley scored his second major championship ofthe year, judea sixty five,
in the final round of the OpenChampion JIP on Sunday. He is he's
(08:03):
one of the greats now He's thefirst guy to do two of the of
the majors in one season since BrooksKopka did it in twenty eighteen. This
whole thing was a mess, shotsall over the place. At one point
it was pacing to be the highestyou know, I get this right,
highest scoring major early on Thursday thatI thought like people weren't even gonna get
(08:24):
over horror, kind of even downa little bit against no pun intended.
There, here's with Xander Schaffley, another guy. I know we had Scotti.
Scheffler's now become more marketable after hisarrest. There have been marketable golfers
He've gone through this. Can't wejust call Xander Schoffley the Zandman. I'm
got a sweet nickname, the Zandmanget out there like kind of like the
(08:45):
Sandman playoff of the X Man.I mean, come on, the Mutins
are joining the Marvel universe. Guys. I thought the X Man was the
guy in the wheelchair they wheeled around. Well, it's Professor Xavier. He's
the he's the leader of the XMen. They're all Cyclops and Wolverine and
Beast and Jean Gray. They're allx Men. All those guys at the
end sounded very intimidating and frightening.I just don't know if like a chick.
(09:11):
Wait, anyway, I got this, Hannah, what hang on?
What is their name? Storm?Storm was good? Yeah, Storm right,
I just don't know that like theSandman Zanman, that sounds more intimidating
like from Spider Man, rather thanmister X who's getting wheeled around Professor X.
Me, Professor X, I don'tfind that as an intimidating super He's
actually an a mega class mutant. He has the one of the most powerful
(09:31):
mutants in the entire Marvel universe. Is it the movie The intern or The
Internship with Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughnwhere they trick him early in the movie
to go find the professor and sayInternship? Yes, the Interns with Robert
Jenier, Yes, okay, yeah, there you go. Job Janer Shoffley,
way to go man, all right? Number three in the CDTA Kickstarter
(09:54):
took six rounds through Jake Paul toscore a TKO over bear knuckle fighter Mike
Perry in Dallas Saturday. Perry gotknocked down about three times. I was
so excited for this fight because Ithought, well, bare knuckle fighting,
it's still like it's still boxing, right, he'll be fine. No,
(10:15):
it's so different, like he keepshis hands down to try to sucker you
in, catching ten ounce gloves offhis mellon this we still have yet to
see Jake Paul fight a real fighter. I'm sick of it. I'm sick
of it. I cannot wait forTyson to slap the crap out. I've
become a Jake Paul fan. Paul. He's the underdog no matter what he
(10:37):
does. People against Tyson. Heshould be in that one. He should
he should. Here's the here's thething. Are you're you're uh, I'm
as I'm as close as you're gonnaget to a brother, right right?
So if I was Let's say Ihad I started my own uh sport tenergy
(11:00):
drink, would you let would you? Would you ever take a different sportsenders
drink as a sponsor for your fights? No? Well they do. Did
you see that video in his lockerroom? Do you see that weird thing
that was going on? Or there'slike I tried not to. I think
it was stage, but I wasn'treally convinced by the way. My son
(11:20):
does not like Logan Paul good boy. He told me, he said,
Dan, I want one of these. He was talking about, like the
the buddy things you can beat up, you know, the old wrestle buddies.
They're back now. He says hewants Logan Paul just so Dane and
Dad I can beat up logan Paul. Oh, all right, all right?
Is it? Are those a thing? Because I'll buy it for him.
(11:41):
I don't know. I don't evenknow if he knows. He has
a brother named Jake Paul that boxes, but he is not a log He
can't wait for La night at SummerSlam. He's fired up. I'll tell
you what, if I can findit, I'll buy it. Because that's
I've never agreed with Rex more thanI do right now. That's that's that
in the one time where we werelike, we're talking and he was like
girls are ricky and I was like, yeah, I know, and whatever.
All right, huh Yeah, Ijust can't I can't wait for Tyson
slap the daylights out of them, all right. Number two Forty two days

Now Back to Levak and Guz onninety five nine and nine eighty AM
Fox Sports Radio Once in a lifetimetime situation, or at least some can
hope that the championship game of thetwenty twenty four AFL season, I was
(21:03):
in a mall, very cool mall, very big mall, had a DreamWorks
water park, Nickelodeon amusement park,a skating rink known as the Rink,
and you know, of course,a lot of stores, stores and stuff,
very big mall. Parking at theAmerican Dream Mall is like parking at
(21:23):
an airport, so like it's there'sABC and D garages. They are all
different color codes. There are alldifferent places around your one road away from
MetLife where Luke Colmbs was playing,it looked like it was amazing, and
we went into the game. Therewas hardly anybody there yet we went in
(21:44):
early. We got in there abouteight o'clock in the morning. That starts
setting up because there wasn't a lotof people to set up. The crazy
year from the league continued, sothe al many Firebirds staff pretty much ran
the game. I don't mean tocut you off peppering you with questions.
I just want to understand this becausesomebody could listen, he might be confused.
So this set up the infrastructure ofthe Arena Bowl twenty twenty four.
(22:11):
There wasn't an outsider, independent crewthat constructed the field. The field,
the field and the nets were putup. But then like the designs on
the dasher boards, the extra dasherboards, the sorting, the merchandise to
sell, the running the actual game. We found out Thursday that they would
(22:34):
really appreciate if a lot of ourguys would make it to the game.
The chain crew was our guys. The ball boys were our guys. Steve
or Steve who we lovely call FatherFlocker. He stepped in and did the
red hat job. Never did thatbefore, but he was there to watch
the game and said, I wantto try. Yeah, okay, let
me Just because I've worked in theradio my entire ault life, I have
(22:56):
to ask, So what if let'splay the scenario. What if per se
Albany didn't make it? That wouldhave fallen on another franchise to do that,
Like what if, for instance,I don't know, what if Selina
Beach beat the Albany Firebirds the weekbefore, so Selina would have had to
gotten there early or you don't knowthe answer to that. Based on what
I experienced there were you know, there's a few people in the league front
(23:18):
office, newer people, uh GaryCompton, Tracy, all those people.
They worked their butt off. Theygot a lot of stuff done. But
based on what I saw, ifAlbany was not in that there would not
have been a game. There wouldn'thave been a game. I don't think
so, and I don't think I'mtalking out of school. I mean it
was. It was literal like wewere there was there was. There was
(23:42):
a point where I was driving downthere bright and early Thursday and I got
a text. Lastly if we werebringing game clocks and I was like,
well, no one asked me.I could try to get them shipped up
quick. Whatever they had them, they didn't work right. So that's why
you didn't have getting to see gameclocks on the TV. There was the
way this year kept changing. Youknew that some of the balls were gonna
(24:07):
drop right, you're gonna keep themin the air and not so much not
me whatever, but like in allsincerity, the ownership and the front office
and the staff. If it's notfor my staff from the Omni Firebirds,
who I have so much pride inright now because they just they showed up
thinking they were going to help outa little bit. And the next thing,
you know, Nick Bernard, whoruns my games here, was running
(24:29):
the game. You know Zach Sotenwho runs who's the director. He's directing
like they're doing. Nick was rightin it because now this way the camera's
facing. Nick was in a tonof shots during the game. I do
want to go back to something quickas some of the Monegacon fees you mentioned,
our guy Steve the flock Father wasthe red cap. Some people don't
know what that term means. Forthose who don't know what you're talking about,
so historically they wear a red hatso they're easily noticed. But they're
(24:52):
the ones who are using hand signalsto communicate with the refs and the TV
that when we're going to break, how much time we have left on break?
All those things. That's their job, that's what they do. He's
never done that before, never didit nationally televised game on CBS Sports at
a Friday night. Stepped right in. That's maybe again media biased here,
but that's not an easy job todo. I gonna do it. I
(25:15):
was like, NA, not gonnado it. I know we're opening with
some negatives or some criticisms of thegame, but we're gonna try to be
as transparent as we can for thosewho are able to attend. We're not
picking fights here. We're just gonnatell you what happened to the arenable,
uh, from the viewing side ofit, from the CBS Sports network side
of it, and from what happenedon social media, it felt super positive.
(25:36):
I don't know if my algorithm wasand I thought it was a national
outlets picking it up showing how coolthis is. Look, what's happening.
A lot of the comments, Waita second, I thought the Arena Footall
League ended. Oh it didn't.Wait a second, this is pretty cool.
It felt like from the television andthe social media side, from hours
before kickoff until the end of thegame, that's the timeline I'll draw up,
(25:56):
was overly positive. So I gottaget credit the CBS Sports what's that
working? A lot of the nationaloutlets who picked it up and showed a
video of it. I thought thatpart was great. Yeah, no,
listen, the obviously like, ifyou're gonna do something like this again,
there's ways to do it, youknow. That's that's I'm just I'm just
(26:18):
telling you that there was some craziness. That's that's what I'm saying. I
said very clearly to Gary Compton, the the director of football operations for the
league, Jerry Kurz, who's abig part of the league. I was
like, after seeing it, Ilove it because it it you know,
you'll know this guy's It had avery NFL experienced vibe to it. Yes,
like when the when the NFL comesinto town and they set something a
(26:42):
very fan friendly setup up that showsyou how the turf works and all that
fun stuff. My problem is thatit was a championship game. It should
have been a preseason game. Itshould have been a regular season game,
Week one kickoff, kickoff classic likethey used to do in the nineties at
the Metal. That would be awesthe fact that it was a championship game.
(27:02):
And this is not like we theFirebirds did not lose that game because
of what I'm saying. Because theBillings Outlaws had to do, they had
to go through the same stuff weOur staff was there, so our staff
did more work. But like thedimming lights, the no Jumbo tron,
the the challenge replay monitor was alaptop, like all those things happened.
(27:27):
Both teams had to play through that, so it's not you know, Billings
played, they played their best game. We might have played our worst.
Didn't love this Firebird Bias. Didn'tlove the in game interview when they were
asking what player are you about thecall moments before it goes. I know
if you caught that on the rebuiltcoach they were asking coach where, hey,
what are we drawn up here forthe four point play? And who's
(27:48):
it going seem like during the game. I mean, it's different between players
getting miked out but asking the coachwhat you're about? And I'm sure that's
the ruboff of the XFL and otherleagues. But I didn't love that well
was it made it uncomfortable? Nota fish out of waters too, But
I think that's true, like everyonedealt with things they're not used to during
the season in a championship title game. In comparison to other neutral sighted games
(28:11):
Super Bowl, March Madness, thisfelt to your eyes and events you've covered
far different than just a neutral sightedgame that teams have to adjust to right
right well, because honestly, likeat the end of the day, if
my guys are going to do allthe work, we should have just done
in my house, and it wouldhave been a better game. It would
have been. The MVP Arena isbuilt for it, literally built for it.
(28:32):
But again, the fact that whenit's all said and done, we're
getting reports that between you know,CBS Sports Network and The Zone or whatever,
we had over two point nine millionviews. That's awesome for the game.
That's a huge number. Yeah, that's I mean Friday, Oh my
god, Friday at five thirty. That's that's g And I see people going
(28:55):
like there's not many people at thebull I heard somebody quote me today on
radio saying there was about a thousandpeople, that there was a thousand people.
I have no idea what the ticketsales were. The league did not
work with me on ticket sales atall. They did them all them.
That's why the buses that we sentdown thanks to our friends the Yankee Trails
elbow us out were you paid theexact price it costs to get the bus.
(29:18):
I didn't put tickets in there becauseagain I wasn't working with them.
I don't know how many he werethere. I guessed it was a thousand,
and somebody's quoting me as it wasa team president one thousand people.
Okay, I didn't hear who itwas. I don't even know who.
It was amazing to get quoted. You don't know who quoted you well,
and then on thirteen they put meup as Mike Quarda. It was a
(29:38):
weird It was a weird. Itwas a weird night for sure. On
so many levels do we dive intothe exs and noos of the actual game,
and we have a lot there.I feel like we're just barely getting
to the bone of this. ButI do want to make sure for those
see I think we asked you becauseI do. Look, I love my
guys. They had a rough day, and and and Billings is you know,
(29:59):
part responsible for that. Don't don'tget me wrong. But like Harker,
their quarterback, that dude had thebest game I've ever seen him have.
He he made some like where Iwas sitting in the one end zone,
he threw this this I think itwas like a thirty yarder and it
just went over the tip of theof the jack back and it just over
the shoulder land perfectly, and itwas the receiver's name perfectly in Dwayne Brown's
(30:25):
hands. I mean it was.It was a beautiful pass beautiful and you
know Dwayne Brown, he had fivetouchdowns. They played a hell of a
game. There were some things forthe Firebirds, not just off the field
but on the turf that then hadto deal with before, like the Mark
Roscoe storyline of him missing the game. Who was such an impactful player for
(30:47):
the semi final game against the lineof the kicker who was bouncing it off
the nets and making points happen andeverything else. His impact in the game
was felt so fast, and CBSSports on their side did the storyline that
you missed it. I believe theinformation is accurate that the kicker that the
Firebirds had signed had not played theentire season, was working as a mechanic.
(31:07):
The last time he kicked was inGermany. So from off the street
to an agent calling you to say, hey, you're kicking in a championship
game, obviously a huge factor inthat game. He shows Thursday night,
Thursday night, the game's on Friday, Thursday night. I'm in the lobby
talking to coach where they just Ithink they were getting ready to go to
dinner. I decided to drink mydinner after the day we had, and
(31:33):
this guy walks in shorter guy.I never seen him before. He's like,
hey, coach, hey, youmade it. Whenever I'm like,
oh no, all right, sofactor that this doesn't excuse this is the
real storyline team that plus well, hold on tho, I want to tell
you a really cool moment. Ohso you know Mark, he's he's struggling
a little bit, but his hisonside kicks were great. His squib kicks
(31:55):
were great. At halftime, markoRosco's on crotches. Mark walks him out
on the field and starts working withhim to kind of fix the kick.
Get it. Hey, man, here's do this to get to the net.
Do this to this this well likeit was, it was a really
cool moment to see Mark ross Willcome out on crutches and you know the
(32:16):
guy who's kicking it at his moment, and I will. I'm going to
tell you the truth. I thinkif Mark was healthy, we win that
game. But like to see thosewere two working together was a really cool
moment. That's a really cool teammatewho stepped up being a pro, helping
the team out any way he canon the crutches. I would lean towards
that take as well, that ifHerosco's healthy and is able to understand those
(32:37):
elements. An American dream quick thatis a society about the video screaming in
the way, because there wasn't one. So the impact of medlock Jake getting
hurt at the end of the game, I mean, if that's probably and
I don't want to speak for Jakeor the medical team for the Firebirds,
but I would assume if that's aregular season game, he probably comes out
(32:58):
of the game, not the fourthquarter of this second half of the championship.
It seemed from what was being shownthat that should have been a game
ending injury for him. So atthe end of the game, downstairs,
Jake and I Jake gives me ahug. I'm like, brother, I'll
piggyback man, let me get youout of here. He's like, I
was like, have you been carryingme all year? Let me carry you.
(33:19):
He's like, walked in. I'mwalking out. So that night,
we're sitting now, we're having adrink, chilling out, and I go,
uh, I go, you shouldhave been in that game. He
goes, I dare you to comeget me out of that game. He
goes, I love you. You'relike a brother, I'll knock your teeth
out of your mouth. I'm notleaving that game. He's a championship game.
I wasn't coming out and everybody knewit. He walked up to the
(33:39):
trainer, and the trainer's like, hey, let me look at this.
He goes, you put a braceon my knee and get the held of
my way and that was so thatlooks a tough dude. Man. He's
you know, he's from Jacksonville.You know it's a different breed. A
Florida man. Ain't coming out ofa football game. You just want to
come out like there would have been. There would be bloodshed if you try
to take him out of that game. A guy who earlier this month I
(33:59):
got the sit down with for thefirst time and he busted my chops about
how I could feel the passion offof him for football. A coach's son
kid, a guy who's gonna havea coaching career whatever level he wants,
and hopefully he starts catching some breaksand coaches because he's had some bad breaks
early in his coaching career. Itfelt like that that it was more about
the passion and the drive of I'mstaying in this game to do everything I
can, So I don't feel badabout my take. I still feel like
(34:22):
if it was the regular season,Lewandowski's shown his skill set, he probably
would have checked in. But Jakewanted to leave everything on the turf.
And there is also that storyline ofit potentially could have been his last professional
football game and maybe he knew thatwhen that was happening. So that,
plus how the score was laying outor coach where had to put the Firebirds
into we'll call it again uncomfortable settingsfor going for four point plays. Darius
(34:45):
Prince. The defense on DP wasso tight where even it seemed as if
Darius couldn't make the plays he's usedto making because of how tight the defense
was and how difficult it was tomake plays. Billions was really good.
They were a really good team. They deserve to win. They were the
better team out on the turf forthe second time that season. They were
(35:05):
the favorite in that game. Theydeserve to win the Arena Bowl. But
if you're a Firebird fin, youhave things you can look back and say,
quarterback got hurt, kicker got hurt. Our three best players, our
most impactful players, were both injuredand one basically couldn't move all game because
the defense locked him as much asthey could to say, will let anybody
else beat us today except six?And then a really nice game plan against
(35:27):
I gotta tell you, I don't. I don't think any of my guys
want that kind of storyline. Ithink, what there? It's this was
if you played the game ten times, I feel like, based on our
roster, we win in seven. This is one of those three times Billings
beat us like they did. Itwas. It was a tough listen.
I could list excuses, like whatwas it? Was it Jericho who did
(35:51):
the just made the list? Theyrolled it out and just kept rolling like
I could do that. I coulddo that. But so good Billings.
It was. The rest were weird. It was. It was a tough
game, but it was Billings won, and you know they get the cup.
They get to bring the trophy home. That's it. I mean,
(36:13):
I want. I can't wait tillnext year when we play him again.
And their coach a cool guy.We talked before, we yelled each other
during and then after I was walkingby him and I was like, great
game, coach. He grabbed myhand and he pulls me in like I
was not. I was not awilling participant of this conversation. I was
gonna. I was there no matterwhat, you know. I was happy
(36:35):
to talk to him. But andhe goes, you guys are the standard,
great, great season, can't waitto play next year, And I
was like that. I almost startedcrying, Like it was just this is
one of those things, because youknow, the standard is the standard,
like with a front office, theownership, the players, the coaching,
Like that's to have the guy whojust won acknowledge the fact that we do
it right. That was big forme. Well that sense, that's an
(37:00):
amazing story. I'm glad they're evenin the competition, even in the battle,
even when professional careers are on theline of where you can go potentially
at the next stage. I'm talkingto players, coaches, and executives that
have that moment in triumph is asign of character by them. So that's
a really cool thing by Billions.I'm glad you shared that story, and
hopefully that's a story that gets sharedacross the AFL forums and chat rooms and
(37:22):
social media and everything else with somepositivity. League. It might be way
too early to do this, waytoo early. You and I have done.
Who is the champion favorite in twentytwenty five? Days after? Yes,
do we have any idea of whattwenty twenty five looks like for the
Arena Football leaguers? And way tooearly in the conversation because the season finished
(37:44):
with eight teams. There are eightteams currently part of the Arena FOOTB League.
I know there's reports, and Ibelieve it's been I don't feel I
could say this. Arizona I knowhas gone public. The Arizona Rattlers,
I believe it is, have gonepublic and said they want to be a
part of the Arena Football League.Arizona is a franchise. When do those
conversations start about twenty twenty five?Have they already began about twenty twenty five?
(38:06):
For me, I'm i'm I'm crossingthe t's and dot in the eyes
Like you know, there's you knowlittle you gotta do payroll, you gotta
do the final payroll reports, yougotta do all. We gotta shut down
twenty four of the rest of theway, like the boring stuff. You
know that the players have their activephysicals and and everything. If the powers
(38:27):
that be aren't already talking to Arizona, which are Arizona's but they're they're IFL
right, So she'son believe. Soyeah, so you you can't really even
have the conversation yet. You gottawait till they're out of their season.
If they're not already planning those conversations, then then what are you doing?
Like that has to be now thatanybody, anybody whose season is over,
(38:50):
you should already be in their earif you want them, and if they
want to be here, they shouldbe in our ears. You know,
we're we're gonna do what's right forAlbany. That's all. That's all I
can promise you. I like,I really like the people who have taken
over the front office. I reallyreally like the people have taken over the
front office. It's very different thanhow the year started. And I'm glad
(39:12):
that statement has been said because someof these things feel like they should go
without saying. But people who arefans of the league need to hear these
things said by people who follow theleague, covered league work for the league.
Understand the league that when the ArenaBowl ended at the American Dream Mall
this past weekend, the league wasin a better spot ye when confetti was
falling than when the league kicked offmonths earlier, and it was people who
(39:37):
started this that season in charge ofthe league would never have been able to
complete with the people who finished thisseason. Did you know, I listen,
I'm complaining a little bit. Wehad to do a lot more than
I thought we're gonna have to do. I was looking forward to being a
spectator, but uh, but no, that it's it's one hundred percent ahead
of the right direction. Jeff Fisherdid a very good job with SAW.
(39:57):
A lot of people have taken shotto Fisher, Mary Compton, Jerry Kurz
were what were the shots if here? Because I heard some of the hits
nationally, we can call it thatJeff. People are picking it like he
looked like he was wearing the sameoutfit like day to day. It's actually
kind of a funny criticism because yeah, it did look like which but again,
you know, I thought it wassomething else. And then like people
(40:19):
were like, I don't know, just people people were just taking shots.
If they're taking shots in this leagueall year, so why would I start
to take shots at the commissioner.I talked to him and it was a
cool conversation. Uh, it wasone of those situations where he's like he's
telling me, He's like, wegot sixteen. He goes, my goal
is twenty teams for next year,he said, he said on the hit
down in the city. Yeah, and I mean my goal is twelve.
(40:43):
You know, I would love ifwe could have a twelve team league of
solid, solid But if we couldget to twenty and you can have sections
of the country now so your travelis shorter, Like for us to go
to Billings, Montana, it's notcheap. For Billis to come here,
it's not cheap. Like if youcould do it where we play Orlando once
home, once away, we playyou know, kind of the way the
NFL does it. You know,we play the East and then there's some
(41:06):
games where we go when we playCentral or West. If we could,
if that could actually come together, that's awesome, and then we all meet
in the playoffs, that'd be phenomenal. Let me ask what might seem like
a very dumb question for people wholove arena football, and the example I'm
about to give might seem outdated,But I haven't done a wrestling reference for
forty minutes of the show, somay drop one real quick. So older
(41:30):
wrestling fans will remember that they usedto have the territories in professional wrestling.
Yeah, so you had like theWCC W led by the vn Erics and
then that's the only one I couldcount. I saw the Iron Claw,
so that's the only one off topof mat right now, and the NWA,
WWF WC. So you had allthese territories. And what you're talking
about, Leavac is like, Hey, in the South, you wrestled for
(41:51):
WCW and Texas you wrestled for theVaughan Erics. Sort of what's going on
with we'll call it indoor football forthe sake of the no no do arena
football for the sake of this conversation. Is you have the IFL, you
have the NAL, you have theArena Football League. You've got different variations
of this, but we've seen theXFL and the USFL merge. We've seen
(42:12):
we'll do it a local. Thisis about ten years ago, but it
makes sense. At one point wesaw the New York Collegiate Baseball League both
have members of both the NCBL.In the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League,
which is popular here in the Capitalregion. But then day eventually broke off.
Why wouldn't there just be a collectionof Hey, the AFL is going
to absorb the IFL and the NALand for the sake of the sport,
(42:35):
this is the best path. IsIt not as simple as Kenny von Ayer
or Kerry van Eieric coming in andgetting an h BO. It's not that
simple. Uh So where the theNAL is is not gonna use nets anymore.
So we're the only We're the onlyarena league we use nets. The
rebound nets were the only ones withit. And on top of the nets.
(42:58):
I believe that at some point,Actually, I think I think unlimited
substitution is staying because it gives youa chance to get the best players.
Because a lot of players that don'twant to do arena rules with Ironman.
They want they want to play offense, they want to play defense, they
don't want to play both. So, but the nets a it's a huge
part of the rules. And unlesswe would agree to get rid of them,
(43:21):
or these other leagues would agree toadd them, those you can't.
You can't play the same rules. But I know in the past there were
there there have been at least conversationsabout the IFL merging with who or this
one doing that or whatever. Itwould just be a matter of can we
get the rules right and who's incharge? If that's it, that seems
(43:43):
like a very plausible thing to do. Yeah, but who you know how
hard it is, Like, Hey, guys, I'm in charge of the
VAC guys, and then you gono, no, no, Jeff,
I'm in charge of the VAC guys, and then we don't talk to each
other anymore, you know what Imean. So it's like Commissioner of Fisher
would have to go to what's hisface there, trying, hey, I'm
in charge, Well, no,I'm in charge, and then the agreed
whoever's in charge. If egos areplaying a factor in potentially the success of
(44:04):
the league, and maybe maybe it'sthat's it. It's led out ego.
Hey, we want to be thebest n AL team. We want to
be the best IFL team. Wedon't want to be the seventh best arena
football league team. That happens incollege football. Right. For another crossbord
comparison, do you want to jointhe SEC and go eight and four or
do you want to stay in theSun Belt Conference? And go twelve and
zero. Do you want to seea Division three team like Mount Union's but
dominant D three? You want tosay D three, you want to jump
(44:25):
to the FCS to go seven andfive? Okay, that makes a little
bit more sense to me hearing itlike that. I just know a lot
of these story lines from now untilthe Arena Bowl twenty twenty five are probably
gonna get brought up, and it'sgonna be questions for everybody what Jeff Fisher
wants to do. I'm glad thatwe're sitting here in July of twenty twenty
four now saying that the league's ina better spot because it got through it.
(44:47):
It got through it. There weresome moments Jerry Kurtiz like, you
would love to talk to Joey Currs. He's been around the league a long
time. As there was a pointwhere we're like everybody's like, all right,
who's who gets what pench? Wedidn't even have that figure that before.
So uh, Billy said coach sittingon one bench, and I go,
I go to Curze. I'm like, you know, you know you're
you you were part of like originatingthis game. What do you want us
(45:12):
to do How do you do it? He goes where he goes, you
want this bench, you want thatbench, and the coaches you have any
problem with the top seed getting thechoice of the bench. I'm like,
I don't have any problem with it. Hey, guys, our bench is
over here. He goes, I'mjust trying to make sense of things.
I think it makes sense. Likehe's just got that like no nonsense,
no no bs demeanor to him. It's I would I would just love to
sit and pick his brain on,like why fifty why this? Why that?
(45:36):
Why did you know something's gonna beas easy as well you can fit
a fifty yard field in sun Arena? Uh, you know. But he
was a part of figuring it allout, putting the putting on a shirt
so that he can have the trademarksall in one place, like he's it
was it's the right people are inplace. Now let me do my favorite
thing. They used to like askcoach where in players? And sometimes if
we have a guest on for thefirst time, you might notice this is
(45:59):
one of my two questions, what'syour schedule look like for the next few
months? Like do you get abreak? Here? Is it you get
an off season, a non gameI know there's not really never an off
season, but like non game season, do you get to step away for
a little bit? Does it startas soon as today you're back in the
president role. Yeah. Well, see the fast I get back to work,
the more flexibility I'll have as theschedule. So let's let's put it
(46:22):
like this. The people I workfor, they ain't gonna accept coming in
second again. So whatever it takesto help Damon wear and Mike Corda Andy
Gelcher, which he says that makesure that we you know, next year
we're the top seed. So we'rehosting this thing and we're winning this thing.
That's my schedule. That's what ittakes. So is there is there
(46:45):
a chance that you hear a littleless of me here and there because they've
got demands as possible find out,got a lot of meetings coming up the
next couple of days, next weekor two. But I am even though
we didn't win, I am stillgoing to Disney World. That's still happening.
It's a real thing, that's nota cliche. Start going in August.
Yeah, I was so excited towin this thing and tell everybody,
what are you doing next. Igot a DSNY World uh in twenty days,
(47:06):
but no so so I'm I'm gonnaI got that vacation with the family.
But aside from that yet, it'severy morning right back into the office,
you know, starting to We're gonnahave season tickets available very soon or
at least a deposit on them, and just go, just just roll,
get it, get it together. In One of those bosses he worked for
is Andy Gelcher in Mohawks Chevrolet.Yeah, very proud to do so.
Man, it was so cool tohang out with him. I haven't like
(47:30):
hung out with him in a verylong time. So down in Jersey,
we're there, and his forethought, the way he sees the entire picture is
so intriguing, and it's just it'sfun because sometimes I would I would listen
to him talk and I'd be like, you don't I don't understand where you
came to that conclusion because you're notseeing the full picture like he sees it.
(47:50):
That's why when you go to MohawksChevrolet off of Exit twelve in Boston,
SPA, the full picture is availableto you. It's a beautiful showroom,
it's a beautiful rooftop, patio, there's walking trails, there's add Arondack

nine and nine eighty AM Fox SportsRadio Live and the GT Toys too.
(53:54):
That's Toys with AZ. We wenta little long about the the arena all
but nothing wrong with that. Wehad to feel we're gonna talk a lot
about it today. I just it'sit's weird to me how emotional I still
am about it. Like I Ilike, I remember at the you know,
as as the clock was taken down, I just I was like,
(54:15):
you know what, to keep ittogether. I really wanted this one for
my guys, but the ownership groupis amazing, the players are amazing.
And then I kept it together forthe most part. I Like, at
one point, I was off ina corner and I like, you know,
I almost felt the tears slip outbecause I again really wanted it.
But like even now, like it'sit's it's deflating to not to not win
(54:37):
it. And I told Andy Gelcher, and I told my quartera, and
I told Richie says that I'm like, you know what, thanks for let
me be a part of this, because I forgot how bad, how bad
it feels to want a championship andnot to just go get one because we've
won them, you know, withnot ease, but we've It's just,
you know, in twenty one andtwenty two, there was never really a
doubt we were gonna go in there. We're gonna kick your ass and we're
(54:59):
gonna take a tance take a championship. I mean that feeling you had,
I Hope Campleo to regions sports fansunderstand what happens over the next few months,
because you know, twenty twenty fourwas shaping up to be a historic
year and it still really has been. When we think about what the last
twelve months have been. I knowyou Almny football made their run in late
twenty twenty three, but we watchedthe fire Factor was a championship game for
(55:22):
the Firebirds. Yes, is away the fire Birds, but the fire
Wolves get to a championship, ThePatroons make it to the finals like we've
seen professional teams here locally, andthe Valley Cats season continues to roll on
where the championship hasn't happened. Butif you're a fan of those teams in
your supporting local sports, it givesyou something next year to be like so
close almost there twenty twenty five,it could mean more the team gets back
(55:45):
to the title game and everything else, and what the storylines could be in
the new players, the new expectationsand everything else. Absolutely, I it
was funny me there was there's peoplewho are helping us out on Friday,
and I was like, hey, what are you doing? You know,
why don't you hang out, whata oh, I'm working in the Hall
of Fame, Like wait what Sothey're like people who did like two historic
(56:05):
things in like one weekend and me, I'm just you know, drinking till
I can't feel feelings on Friday night. The Hall of Fame overall, with
no New York connection on the Northeast, was an odd class for Northeast New
York sports fans. With Beltray andBauer and Jim Leland but I just missed
and Todd Helton. It just feltlike, Wow, there's been a good
stretch there where there was Yankees,Red Sox, Mets, there was a
(56:27):
stretch going Wher's like there's always aNortheast time or something you could have to
be a part of it. Andanother one year was late because of COVID
just felt like a non New Yorkclass. That's it. There's all nice
players. We've hit the point andprobably hit it years ago, where without
Bonds and Clemens and a Rod andRamirez and all the this is one of
those classes where it's like, areyou guys hall of Famers? Probably,
(56:50):
I have no doubt any of them. Are Are you better than the guys
that just listened off? Now?That's what makes this Hall of Fame discussion
always tough. I the more Iwatch and like lived with the choices this
year, I'm like, these wereall special players. I think I'm in
a weird part in my life whereyou know, there was like Ricky Henderson
gets it, he's one of myfavorite players, but he did so much
(57:13):
before I even could understand what hedid that he was already like a god
level for for baseball for me,Like, uh, Dave Winfield, guys
like that. So like these guys, I watched everything they did. I
was I was an understanding spectator fortheir entire career. They it almost feels
like, yeah, you were reallygood, but you're humans. The people
(57:34):
you're joining a Tony Gwinns of theworld, they were gods. Like it's
just weird to kind of be ableto see them in a human lens.
Yes, it's Lovac. It's somebodyheard that and it's like, that's so
weird. No, you know whatwe're talking about if you're a young sports
fan, where it's like they existedbefore I existed as a sports fan.
They've been here since sports were founded. What do you mean this person I
(57:57):
know of is playing a sport.Oh when the Hall of Fame started happening
with people that I knew an entirecareer of I'm like, I've either gotten
really old or they must have changedthis process. Wait, this is how
it's always been. I don't remember. I don't recall this happening as a
child's been turning into statues. Ohit's okay, all right, I guess
it has been going off. Ohbut you know, congratulations and what is
(58:21):
it? I'm trying to think who'sup for the like, who's the next
one that I'm super interested? Myboy Chio might be the next unanimous pick
in twenty twenty five, the greatesthitter who's ever lived. What about a
Rod I believe he's already on theballot and he's not getting it. Oh
dang it, So excited for him. How about the top four or four
that's up next? Yeah? Ican almost breathe again, A slow right
