It's time for the Top four fourwith Levac and Guz four. It's time
for the four Biggest stories words Tron. Remember we talked to Pete Rose.
Yes, he told the Davagio storyon or off air. On air.
He just told Mike frances of theVaggio story. He's told everybody that story.
(00:24):
I feel I feel abused and used. Like he's told the Pope,
he's told us, he's told Michael. I feel like that is his go
to story and he doesn't know theinternet works. Everyone's heard it. Now.
Yeah, to play the hits, you gotta play the hits. It
is a funny story. Though. It is time for the four biggest stories
in the world of sports. Oneof those not being part of Joe Damaggio
(00:49):
brought to you by Molock Honor wherethey always wanted their way to please Tom
Fibodeau is not on this list.We just covered it. Podcast audience,
go back to our number one. It's not the top four to four.
We didn't miss it. Covered thatabout five minutes ago. Depend on how
you're consuming this content. Let's moveon to story number four. We've got
some local Newslovak involving a former dareI call him Capital region sports legend?
(01:10):
Is it me? Unless you've signedwith a professional team in Lithuania, that
is not you A wild night lastnight. I don't know what happened.
Former Glenn's Falls native. I guessyou're always a kim you never mind.
Joseph Gerard the Third is heading overseas. A pro club in the Lithuanian Basketball
League has announced the signing on theteam's Instagram page. Now, Gerard did
(01:33):
appear in two NBA Summer League gameswith the Toronto Raptors, but looks like
it's not gonna be the Raptors forthe future. For JG three, it's
gonna be Lithuanian hoops. Yesterday wementioned other Glens Falls product, Umberferid that's
gonna be competing in three on threeOlympic basketball here in Paris coming up this
summer, Levak, What do youmake of JG three turning his attention to
Lithuanian professional teams in the summer leaguein his past? Good for him,
(01:57):
Hey, go have some fun, make a little money, enjoy yourself,
you know, be the live yourdream as long as you possibly can.
Good for you. It feels likethe American sports fan. And this is
not anything to do with the Campbellto region specifically, but we just follow
American basketball. We follow the teamswe're used to. We follow the teams
that are regionally or nationally close tous that we follow, like Joe Kremos,
(02:20):
Kosha Glennville's. Oh, Joe Cremojust signed another contract. He's in
the year five playing overseas, whichfeels like that flew by. He's playing
overseas. JG Three's playing overseas.Jimmy did the overseas for a while.
I'm sure I'm missing other names, both men and women's basketball. Is the
opportunity to play pro basketball. Whata great opportunity. You did the NBA
thing. It's incredibly difficult to evenget on a summer league team. There's
(02:42):
the two toughest sports to play professionallythat are of the four major sports in
the United States of America are theWNBA and the NBA. He used to
always be the NBA, but Iinclude the WNBA now because women's basketball is
popular and there's less teams and lessopportunities. Go get yourself some money.
You're getting paid to be a probasketball player, and who knows, maybe
in similar fashion to Jenniferdette. Hecan get a huge following overseas, make
(03:07):
a ton of money, and stillget paid to play hoops. It's awesome.
Yeah, I mean one hundred percent. Why stop playing when people are
still willing to pay to play andso many eyes in the NBA watch what
happens overseas. Who knows, maybeanother opportunity comes, whether it's the G
League or something else. The Raptorshave your The raptors have your information because
(03:27):
I mean they won't call you again. Go out and do your thing.
Man. We'll move on to storynumber three here. This involves a story
from a podcast and Kyle Shanahan, the head coach of the San Francisco forty
nine Ers, in reference to thefuture of Bill Belichick in the NFL.
It looks like Kyle Shanahan confirmed thatBill Belichick at least was offered an opportunity
to join the San Francisco forty nineErs. Shanahan said on the Shoe the
(03:52):
TK Show podcast. I did.I threw it out to him. He
loves football so much that you neverknow what he and I can't believe he's
not head coach right now. Iknow what he would do if I was
an owner. So it shocks me. The last thing you want to do
is insult someone like Bill Belichick. And though he loves football in the simplest
form, I threw it out tohim to be the team's defensive coordinator.
I asked if he'd be interested. He was very nice, very appreciative.
(04:14):
Oh no, no, no,he didn't say life the coordinator. He
said, I offered him whatever hewanted to do. Oh that's a different
quote I had. Okay, yeah, So so at first he said,
listen, I don't want to assauthim. So I offered him whatever he
wanted to be on the staff. But obviously the defensive coordinator was like the
target. But he didn't want toassault him with like a demotion. So
he's like whatever he wants, like, he can do it on his staff.
That's why she had a hand's outhere playing check chess. Everybody else
(04:38):
playing chrackers. Man Like he's literallylike, hey, there's a guy who
made me look stupid in the SuperBowl. He's sitting on the shelf.
My defensive coordinators are either head coacheselsewhere or just haven't done a great job
since those guys. Hey, youone of the greatest defensive minds or head
coaches of our time. Why isyour miss staff want to help? And
(05:00):
he's like, now, I'm good, I'm gonna hang out with this cheerleader's
twenty four years old. I can'tsay I blame him either, But okay,
my last part there, I wantto make sure I frame this right
because I know you're kind of choking. But I think some people who hit
that niche right, like the peoplewh hit Belichick. It's like, I'm
not doing that. So it's notso much ego as to why Bill Belichick
didn't take that gig. It's moreof a lifestyle, like I live a
(05:21):
life as a coordinator. It's farmore difficult, some would say as a
coordinator doing the grunt work, cuttingfilm, coaching it up that it is
the head coach and being the bossand not having to work under somebody,
which Belichick hasn't done for twenty years. So maybe it's a mix of ego
and I just don't want to doit. I'd rather do what you just
offered, hang out with a beautifulwoman and be retired and live life.
Is one of the greatest of alltime. But again, like a lot
(05:42):
of times when you see these thesegreats who are willing to become an assistant
or whatever, it's because of arelationship they have, Like like Marvel Lewis
is gonna is the you know somethingto whatever, Antonio Pierce for the Raiders.
He could go get a head coachagain, he could go be you
know, the coach at Ole Missor whatever. After lang kid is done,
(06:04):
he wants to help his guy.He wants to help his friend.
Like Belichick's probably said there, Ihave nothing to prove. I don't have
any real reason to want to helpyou, like like you're a nice kid
and all whatever, But I'm Idon't need this. And if I want
to coach, I'll wait till somebodygets fired. No coach, I would
say, if there was a pie, eighty percent of the I would believe.
(06:24):
I'd say eighty percent of the MarvinLewis take you had there of a
head coach wanting to be an assistantis about truly being a teacher, being
someone wants to help people achieve lifegoals. I believe eighty percent of that
twenty percent is they can't turn itoff, Like yeah, twenty percent is
I wouldn't know what to do withmyself if I was fishing or golfing or
(06:45):
doing anything else. Because some coaches, I love the term nomadic lifestyle that
they've moved around so often, they'vehad so much change that when they're not
coaching, they don't know what todo. So eighty percent I would say,
you're right on that. I'm saying, why would you take that?
You know what I mean? Likehe's, oh, yeah, you know
it again to take the step back. There has to be a reason beyond
(07:05):
just coaching. We move on tostory number two. It's a look around
Major League Baseball on this Wednesday afternoon. Action including the Rents taking down the
Braves nine to four, Pirates bobbingup in victory over the Cardinals. I
can't go with another Pirate's money lineand underplay that would have been three for
three right there. Two for onePaul Skins loss last night that hurt.
(07:27):
Also action underway right now includes thePhillies and Twins tied for a piece in
the bottom of the ninth, Brewersand Cubs two to two. In the
bottom of the sixth, red Soxtrailing eight to one, of the Rockies
getting pounded out in coursefield gosh, what's going on in Boston? Astros A's
two to one Houston leads that oneof the Angels and Marriagers just underways ahead
of the second no score in thataction. Wednesday travel Day, a lot
(07:50):
of action across Major League Baseball.I think it's pretty easy to see what
game Levak has enjoying the most, and that is Colorado, one of the
worst teams in baseball, pounding Bostonright one for the good guys. Let's
go Colorado, Rocky Mountain High,Let's do it. I'm all about.
We've got like ten fifteen year examplesof teams that are absolutely awful, flipping
(08:13):
it around and getting good Royals,Giants Orioles, Cubs, Astros. We
can run through them all if youwant, you get the Colorado feels like
the one team and it's like, you know, everyone else did this the
last ten or fifteen years, Rockies, why aren't you guys gonna do it?
Your turn do something. I feellike that's more about the division.
With San Diego being so active, with San Francisco always being the mix in
(08:35):
La spending everywhere, that feels moredivision based than franchise based. For Colorado.
I mean possible. But you know, at the end of the day,
as long as you're getting check marksin the w Colum, everything's okay.
Doesn't matter how they get there,as long as they get there.
And let's move on a story.I remember wants the New York Mets taken
over the New York Yankees tonight, seven o'clock. First pitch set for this
matchup tonight, Garrett Cole on themound in the Subway series for the Bronx
(09:01):
Bombers, Like, this is oneof those moments. This is why you
make the money you make call theteam is aggressively stinking, like just to
the point where if if you walkJudge four times, you beat the Yankees,
Like that's all, that's all youneed to do. This is when
you need to go out there andkeep this team under two I guess.
I mean, I can give aone run over seven and two thirds and
(09:24):
and hope the bullpen does their job, because right now the Yankees are just
stinky, just stanky, no funto be had. Stanky. I think
it's the right term to use forthe Yankees. They need to find some
way to stop this. It feelslike every time I preview the subway serious,
I'm not giving enough love to theMets. The Mets played really well
last night. The storyline for theMets tonight will be the same storyline that
(09:45):
intrigued me as that game got tothe sixth, seventh, the eighth,
and ninth. In een of metfanhas forever had the mindset of things are
gonna go the wrong way, thingsare gonna bomb, We're gonna blow this,
and then the bullpen starts coming outand you're just like, hang on,
well, who's out here? Whatdo you mean they still second?
What do you mean out of Vinocan't throw quick enough? It is a
(10:09):
circus Mendoza. I don't know what'sgoing on in that clubhouse. I don't
know who's healthy and who's not. That will be the intrigue for tonight's game.
If the Mets have the lead goingto the sixth inning, how in
the world are they gonna piece thistogether. I can't wager on this,
but I'm two for two this seasonon this wager. This is not a
thing that exists. I got aprediction for tonight's Mets Yankee games. Okay,
(10:30):
walk off win for the Yankees.Bullpen blows it. The Mets have
the lead. This is an ingame wager, second night in a row.
Now, I didn't do anything wellyesterday when I did the over under
at nine and a half, butI'm going wilder tonight. Walk off win
in game play for the Yankees tonightagainst the Mets. Is the bullpen blows
it? I hope you're right.I just can't. I have no faith
(10:52):
in this team right now. Ihave no a vote of no confidence in
the New York Yankee s at thismoment. They just seemed to enjoy losing.
It seems to be their jam.Just something. You know, Hey,
what do you want to do today? I don't know, maybe get
beat by the Mets. Oh cool, have fun with that. Like that's
that's what it feels like. IfNew York sports fans want to suffer together,
one common awful thing that's happening forthe Yankees and the Mets. When
(11:16):
you have so many injuries right nowfor the Mets and the Yankees, then
if you're watching it on your phonethat you have to keep scrolling when there's
so many injuries on a page thatit doesn't fit on the page. That's
a bad sign. And both teamshave that right now. Left eleven men
on base last night, that's whatthe Yankees said, eleven men on base.
(11:39):
Yeah, so just whatever, AndI see Leon's having a blast with
the Mets. Good, good foryou. Enjoy this is your time right
now, how about it? Sorry? Has Junior been talking smack to you?
In the officer Mike Ordie Harfellow triedJunior tried to talk smack to me,
but then I reminded him that, like he's you, just younger,
he's not gon to have any success. It's just not gonna That was the
(12:03):
comeback you. Yeah, it was. It was like nothing to do with
baseball, just swept, swept thelegs, just swept the legs, just
went right for it. Just pointedin this studio and said, do you
want to be that? I was, like asked the Oriel fan. When
it's like to root against the Yankeesfor your whole life, go ahead,
I should worry about you, allright for kid? Yep, so he
(12:24):
gets so he gets that's your topforard four. Ah, that was fun.
I enjoyed that. Thanks for justmaking me feel so good about the

on ninety five, nine and nineeighty am Fox Sports Radio, Jets can
(18:51):
Well. A lot of camps acrossthe NFL are getting underway. The Jets
camp interesting for a few reasons.Rogers is there. He mocked out everyone
with the Egyptian cat shirt. Everybodythought that was funny. Teammates don't seem
very upset with him, but he'sready to go. Son Reddick not there,
and this is where the impass begins. He would like a deal.
We talked about this a little bityesterday. They knew he wanted a new
(19:15):
deal when they traded a conditional sixround pick for one of the top edge
rushers in the game. They madehim an offer, he didn't accept it.
Now he's not coming to camp.Until they rework his deal, and
they don't want to rework his dealuntil he comes to camp, and therein
lies the rub. So that's oneof the great stories coming out of Jets
camp. Huh, how fun isthat? Yeah, it's Rogers cleared,
(19:37):
he can play. He looks healthy. After the injury in Week one last
year and the drama of Jets camplast year, it felt like less drama,
which is odd. And one yearlater of like, of course there's
drama. Look at all the storylines. What's Roger's gonna do, What's gonna
happen in the future, Makai Beckand there's a bunch of Now I've just
accepted that whether the Jets are tenand seven, whether they're three and fourteen,
(20:00):
whether they're fourteen and three, thereis something about the New York Jets
training camp that every season there's drama. There is from the days of Rex
Ryan to the days of Todd Bowles, who didn't say too much. It
feels like there's no team in theNFL Giant Fan and Bill Fan included that
has more drama on a national scalethan the New York Jets. And I
don't know if that's the passion ofthe fan base having these months like July
(20:22):
and August mean more because they wantthe Super Bowl. Whether it's because of
the personalities like Renick and Reevus ofthe past, it feels like there's always
drama Jets game, which, bythe way, leads me to this.
I've heard a little nasty rumor aboutthe Jets and dreaming. I don't even
if I should go to the airwith this, but I just teased it.
It's not it's too late already jumped. I'm hearing they're starting to block
(20:45):
or at least change a lot ofthe media access for the Jets this season,
really, so hard Knocks was allover the place last year. Now,
whether that's because of Hard Knocks, whether that's because of the focus on
a Ers, maybe it's been fromRobert Salain, Joe Douglas. I'm hearing
that some of the access that Jetfans and media members would usually have season
(21:08):
a season is being restricted. Idon't want to dive into more details because
maybe that's just early on in camp. And like you and I know this,
like when you go to camp, you can't film certain stuff, you
can't be in certain spots that couldbe just a day one rumor I'm hearing
of where you can't be. Butthat's odd that I'm hearing that day one
(21:29):
of like stuff is being restricted forthe Jets. Well, actually it makes
a lot of sense to me becauseof a few things you mentioned. One,
there's always drama out of Jets camp. So how do I keep the
drama from being coming to problem?I don't talk about the drama, but
the biggest the two biggest pieces ofdrama or are Aaron Rodgers, who just
(21:51):
has to say things, and RobertSala, who is terrible at shutting things
down. Like Robert Sala, youknow, hey, where's where's Aaron Rodgers?
An unexcuse absence, can't say likeRogers take care of stuff now we
you know, we we all saw, we talked about it. Nothing to
talk about further. It's okay boomsomething like that. Nothing. He makes
(22:17):
things like he takes a flamethrower toanything that would calm down at a bad
story. So yeah, you knowwhat, why not restrict it a little
bit? Every national show from NFLNetwork to CBS to ESPN, anybody who
wanted to be anybody was at camplast year. Everybody Rogers was doing interviews
effect like during practice, during heartSo that's stuff that you saw Jet fans
(22:38):
that was constant national media. Maybeyou'll get one day when everybody shows up.
That's what I'm here because something changedtomorrow. Sure, but I've been
on some emails that people are like, oh, I didn't expect that to
happen. Ooh, that's never happenedbefore. Okay, No, it's it's
Jets Camp always crazy. The amountof media exposure. I don't know,
(23:03):
man, do you think there's alsoa warning to the staff staph in the
sense of, like, hey, don't every time shut up just because they're
asking for an interview with a player. Doesn't even have to say yes to
every interview with a player because theymight ask about it. Ooh, I
think I just stumbled upon that too. I wonder how much that is about
Aaron Rodgers. Oh everyone asking aboutYeah. I mean literally, like he
(23:25):
was texting Joe Beningo, who usedto be what was the afternoon drive or
midday or something like that over atw f A N. Like he was
texting him like team stuff that youthat we should not know, like,
or at least we should have tohunt, not it shouldn't be handed to
us, and he was texting him, was going on his podcast like,
hey bro, here's a problem withthe Jets and blah blah blah. Robert
(23:51):
Sala hates hates Zach Wilson. Weshouldn't know that. That shouldn't be the
thing we know. And he wastexting it to him openly. I mean,
like Greg Getussa attack me and goingHalo, Mac, I gotta tell
you my new quarterback is a butthead. I hate this guy Whoa and
me going right to the show.It turns out the two so hates his
cood, like like you know, well you you don't. You don't like
(24:12):
there's parts of our friendship that youhave to like, you have to segment
because of what I do for aliving. Joe Burrow would probably be the
only big other storyline from Campbell Borough. Have you seen him? You mean
Boomers hijastin junior? You mean youmean I want to be Boomer when I
grow up? Why does he changhis number to seven? There was a
(24:33):
photo last year, I believe involvingBurrow that was photoshopped and it wasn't him.
So initially, when I saw thenew eminem look, I thought it
was fake until I saw actual videotoday of the eminem Look, Joe Burrow's
got some swagger man like, hedoes not care Joe Burrow for what he
walks to games with. If hedidn't get hurt last season? Does Bengal
(24:55):
fan think they could have been aSuper Bowl contender? Remember it is still
Cincinnati. Is the team that's beenable to knock off Kansas City, not
Buffalo, not New York, notBaltimore. Cincinnati's been the team. And
now with a healthy Joe Burrow,do they think they're the team? And
gosh, that hair is wild. You got paid. Now I have Leach
blonde hair. I'm gonna do whatI want again. It's just anytime I
(25:17):
see a like a that, likein the Bleach Blonde or the Norwegian blonde,
I just think at a Bengal quarterback, it's Boomers and here we go.
So if we've learned anything, itmeans that san Franz about to beat
Cincinnati again in the Super Bowl. It's just it's what happens. That's how
we live. So san Fran's aboutto win it all over Cincinnati because of
the Boomer haircut on old number ninethere. I might remember that when we
(25:40):
do our final season preview show thatwas that was I think the most pop
besides Kansas City. I think thatwas the most popular matchup that people picked
last year for a Super Bowl fiftygosh fifty eight in Vegas. Hmmm.
I wonder if you left the littlebreadcrumb right there for what you might be
thinking for the rest of the season. No, I don't. I don't
believe in the Bengals at all.I think the Bengals are ready to come
(26:02):
back down to earth pretty hard.I also do. But I wonder now
that you thought I thought the Bengalswere gonna come down this season, You've
decided to change your stance entirely forour next preview show. I think you
think that. I think that youthink that. I think that maybe you
think you can talk me into thinkingwhat you think. But I don't think
that's gonna happen. So how doyou think about that? I, Like
I said, camp, this thistime of camp is always like realistically speaking,
(26:26):
it's just a matter of who's thereand who's not there. Like with
Dallas uh ceedee, Lamb does isnot coming in. He wants new money.
You know, Corey earlier called aboutDak Prescott. He wants new money
like it. I'm all nervous ifI'm a Cowboys fan about the way that
stuff's going. That's the bigger That'sthe way bigger story to me, even
than sound Radick is You've got threestuds. They all want to get paid,
(26:48):
and now you have to decide howyou're gonna pay the three of them.
And and because you're gonna have topay him, there's you. You
drafted Seede Lamb. I think SeaLamb has to potentially be a top three
wide receiver in the You Michael Parsonskind of vanished on you at some point
last year. Dak Prescott, youknow he is there a better option at
quarterback that we just can't figure out. I don't. There's just a lot.
(27:11):
You've got a lot to Cowboys havea chance to go from stars and
scrubs to scrubs real fast. Theythought the window was open for a Super
Bowl, and it might be closingthis season, and they don't know what
to do with that window right now. Man, I said something really bad.
I'm not gonna do it. Though, not gonna do it. Instead,
let's talk about us three the windowsill. To make sure you don't
(27:32):
get bees and wasps like I hadbefore. USX Past Control Man, I'll
tell you the the non chemical Exclusionpackage is great. They seal up all
the nooks craning these crevices so thingscan't get in. But then the best

and all our great guy, uhDamon Ware of the ALMNY Firebirds and coach.
(29:04):
I was pretty sure that by thetime we had this conversation we'd be
talking about yet another championship we hadwon together. You know, in your
experience, how long does it taketo kind of wash that bad taste out
of the mouth? I said,it's gonna take a second. Was just,
you know, it was a toughnight. We just didn't play very
(29:26):
well, and uh, you knowwhen you do that, ad him,
one of the lightest, brightest, you come out with losses, and it
was unfortunate that we were beaten byBillings, But hats off to them and
congratulations to their organization. Personally,I think it was my fault. I
just I didn't I didn't have agreat game, coach, I didn't.
I smack talk wasn't great. Iwas talking smack to the guys and as
(29:48):
they were waiting for kick return, and the best I had was that Yellowstone
was overrated. Uh So I'd liketo apologize to you and the team coach.
I appreciate it. We all gota step our game up to get
those championships. Let's go way back, and I know we're reflecting on the
championship even before kickoff for the Foxaudience that hasn't had an opportunity to hear
(30:10):
from you and here from Levac andeverything that went into the Arena Bowl last
Friday. The setup itself, themall is an overall setting a venue.
How would we describe it now lookingback on to less than a week ago.
The words that you would use unique, different, frustrating, interesting,
take us out you would describe itnow looking back on that setup on Friday,
(30:33):
I'd have to use a whole bunchof those adjectives. It was unique,
certainly, interesting, certainly, comeawkward, certainly in different, certainly,
very hot. Certain Yeah, sothere's probably a lot of adjectives I've
(30:55):
used for the experience of it.I mean, it was it was pretty
cool to do something in the middleof the mall, a championship game that
is really unique, and just thatalone was probably pretty cool to say,
I guess to a certain degree, but just just different. You know,
just the whole setup of it isobviously a little awkward. It's not like
(31:19):
being in an arena. It's youknow, the comforts of having an arena
are just not totally there. Imean, even our boxes were way too
small for us, you know. There there was a lot of challenges obviously,
but I do think it was acool experience. I do think from
a business standpoint, you know, the boxes would checked as to what it
was designed to do. So again, there were definitely some positives, but
(31:45):
you know, ultimately none of thosethings or excuses we needed tobate play a
better football game, and we didn'tdo it. Not only was the venue
a storyline heading into before kickoff, but there are fans who are there in
attendance part of the flock, butthere are also fans who watched it on
CBS Sports Network who heard about thestoryline that was finding a replacement for Mark
(32:07):
Rosco, who wasn't a part ofthe arenable take us through it again and
maybe this whole match what was toldon the television side of when Erosco was
ruled out for the game and howyou guys found another kicker replace him.
Yeah, it's tough. You know, not that I'll blame it on the
kicking game, because that wouldn't befair, but you know, that was
(32:30):
that was a big ordeal in itself, and you know, there's just rules
as to when you need to getyour roster to the league for games.
And so unfortunately with Mark, wedid not get an MRI in place and
(32:50):
get it read until Monday or Wednesdaymorning. By the time it was read
and it was told to me,you know, we really had probably a
handful of hours to sign somebody, get the contract done, and get it
into the league. And so thatalone causes a great deal of challenges.
(33:10):
So we had people that we wantedand reached out and can we get a
contract done quickly? Can we youknow, you're kicking in forty eight hours
and you know, we're not evenreally gonna see you practice and we'll just
we'll see on the game. Imean, you know, that's just not
(33:32):
an ideal way of you know,of having adding somebody to your team.
Uh, but that's that's what wewere left with. And so we had
a few people that obviously couldn't makeit or couldn't do it with that kind
of time frame. Uh, weultimately, you know, settled in on
somebody that could do it, thatCalaim with some good references and uh,
(33:59):
you know, had had a goodcollege career, and so we signed him
and got him out there, andultimately, you know, I hope if
he is riskless, he would knowthat he fail stored in the duties that
we really needed him to take careof. And so the kicking game was
a struggle, and we had todo things that we would never do in
(34:20):
other games. And so yeah, that was a that was a big piece.
And so you know, when itjust came down to it, you
know, offensive VV struggle, DefensiveVV struggled. The kicken game we struggled.
Then you're struggling three things with agame and a chance of game.
It's tough, and then you knowwhen you look at the final score we
lost by five points. It reallyit leaves you know, a pain in
(34:43):
the chest because you know that youjust should have did better and we had
an opportunity to bring home another championshipto the Capitol Region and we just didn't
get it done. One other isnot the best coach in Arena football right
now? Damon? Where with us? Right now? In Fox Sports Radio
ninety five nine. I need you. I don't. I don't just say
that because you're my friend. Isay that because I watch the way these
guys gravitate to you. I watchhow you, you know, keep your
(35:07):
your cool while these things are goingon. I did, I did have
I've This roster has been one ofmy favorites. What you put together this
year has been amazing. It breaksmy heart that they're not going to be
here all summer, the rest ofthe summer to hang out with us.
I got it. How many ofthe guys volunteered to kick and were any
of them close enough that you thoughtmaybe if we needed to, they could
(35:28):
Because I know the way these guysare built. Some of them were out
there stretching the leg trying to figureout how to help. Yeah, the
funniest thing is, you know, back in twenty eighteen when I had Jake
Medlock with me in the other league, he actually did kick some. He
was our emergency kicker, and heof course came to be coached. I'd
kick. You know, I'm justat that point, I just want you
(35:51):
to focus on being a quarterback anddoing your thing. And you know,
this is a kid that kicked formany years and kicked collegiately. You know,
we'll we'll work with him and tryto figure out what we can do
to kind of mitigate the kicking game. But yeah, it was a struggle.
It was you know, like Isaid, we we got the ball
first, and you know, wemarched right down the field pretty easily into
(36:12):
the red zone, and then westalled out and four and out. You
know, there was our first stop. And you know we didn't see the
first kick for a little bit,but you know, the first kickoff that
that we kicked the Billings we cameon the second drive, came down and
scored a touchdown. It was sevento three that time, with with us
(36:34):
leading, we kicked off and theball went to about the ten yard line
and you know, with a runninghead start about a ten yard ten to
fifteen yard gap of space. Iwas, you know, I was just
shocking to me. You know, just it's just one of those things that
you don't get a chance to preparefor because I've never you know, really
participated with the TN. It wassuper hot on the field. His trainer
(37:00):
that that is a you know,an AFL legend was had trained him right
before he left. So I,you know, I didn't want to wear
his leg down with a bunch ofa bunch of stuff. But that you
know, we went out there andyou know, went through a news some
basics, and you know, itlooks pretty good. And then when you
know, you see the first stickoffand it comes that short, and you
(37:22):
realize, all right, now wedon't have an opportunity for a deuce.
We don't have an opportunity even forthe ruse, which you know our kickoff
team has been used to you juststart you got to start changing your strategy,
and you know that just is notsomething that you're prepared for. You
don't go into a game preparing topanic through uh changes in your game plan.
(37:44):
And so you know, those arethose tough things and just you know,
obviously we want to you know, see see Mark healthy. But yeah,
just just getting that that indication thathe couldn't play so late, it
just really kind of set us back. And so I was that was a
tough thing, and it really isn'ta good option at that particking the point
you're in the game. And so, like I said, we just didn't
(38:07):
you know, I would love totake the kidney game out of it as
much as possible. So we stoodkicked it and you know, didn't go
for a whole lot of you know, extra points and definitely didn't go for
any field goals. And so youknow, hey, when you're struggling,
you're struggling, and you just gotto find other ways to manufacture some points.
Even though the result of the gamewasn't what you wanted. In some
performances in the game you would havehoped would have been a bit better.
(38:28):
There were some moments at the endof the game on a national stage on
CBS Sports Network in the mall rightthere next to met Life Steam in the
fourth quarter. You mentioned just afew minutes ago, Jake Medlock, the
determination, the passion that even thoughhe's injured. Even though he's fighting through
an injury, he wants to fightfor a championship with his teammates, with
the coaching staff for the city.Coach, You've known Jake for a bunch
(38:51):
of years. I'm sure what yousaw in that fourth quarter wasn't a surprise,
But I hope you and the teamtook pride and watched what he did.
What was it like watching him fightas much as they could in that
fourth quarter for everything on the linein that title game on Friday. Yeah,
Jake's a tough kid. I mean, he looks more like a linebacker.
He's obviously a lot bigger than hewas when I had him early in
(39:12):
his career. But but he's buthe's tough and gritty. And so you
know, we went into the game, you know, bringing some more skills
of some players, and you know, I see all the comments. So
why didn't they put in a backupquarterback? We didn't even dress a backup
quarterback, just because we needed theroster spots. We you know, we
still had a little couple lingering injuriesand and so again we needed the roster
(39:36):
spot to to kind of solidify someother positions and so but uh. You
know when he went down, youknow, I obviously talked to him about
it and and he was like,Coach, I'm you know, I'm gonna
fight this to the bitter end.And you know I would never quit quit
on us until the bitter end.And so did a great job. He
actually threw some really good passes. You know why while he was you know,
a little banged up, and andso, like I said, he
(39:59):
gave us a chance to win them. You know, we obviously could have
tied the game up. You know, we had a four point play that
that that we dropped, and thatcould have turned the whole game around.
And it was in a real competitive, you know, part of the game,
and you know, like I said, we just didn't make the plays
that we normally would make. Andyou got to just say congratulations to Billings
(40:20):
as they hung on very in differentstyles. Their style is unique, which
is really to burn as much asthe clock, slow the game down a
lot, play good defense. Theydon't mind kicking field goals, they don't.
They just want to shorten the game. And you know, I said,
you know, our style is moreuptempo, and we want to put
the pressure on the defense, andwe want to score you know, early
(40:43):
and off them, and it wasgoing to be a testament of will and
whose will would would desert on theothers. And we did a good job
of, you know, just slowingthe game down and playing some good defense.
We had some protection problems in thegame, which which just kind of
changed the you know, just justthe whole beginning of the game, and
(41:05):
you know, it just just wasa wild game. It was. There
was just a lot of mistakes thatwe just normally don't make, and unfortunately,
when the lights were brightest, wemade a few too many years and
we allowed ability to capitalize the most. All Right, So the whirlwind that
has been coach Dan Ware's life sinceI met you. Twenty one, you
come here, we get the championship. During COVID twenty two, you come
(41:30):
back here, we get the championship. Still kind of the tail into COVID
twenty three. You end up.You come here, You craziness happens,
end up running Orlando season ends. You moved right up here. You've been
here ever since? Are you goinganywhere? Is this like? Has anything
changed? Like? Where? Whatis the life of Damon Ware? Right
now? I'm right here? Asa matter of you know, I said
(41:57):
it, you know what I wasleaving on. I mean I had other
people call and I said, NewYork's first rider refusal. And the only
way I would even entertain any otheroffers is that just didn't happen. And
so this is going to be aseason that's going to be just near and
dear to my heart, just becauseof everything, the whole debacle of twenty
(42:23):
twenty three that we don't much talkabout. Coming in and rebranding a football
team that itself is difficult, It'shard. It takes a lot to you
know, to get your brand backout there and get people behind it.
And luckily it was one that obviouslythere was you know, our fans knew.
(42:43):
So that was interesting in itself.Rebuilding trust in the community, you
know, since COVID obviously there's challengesof doing community stuff and all that,
and that was a total focus ofmine. Let's get out here in the
community. Built so much support initself, and and that, like I
said, I've been to so manyevents this year and and and been with
(43:07):
everybody doing their events and in hopesthat they would turn around and support us.
I mean, it's it's a giveand take thing, uh, building
the staff, you know, comingout of chaos, building the staff,
you know of people that you know, hey, is you know, is
so and so still in part ofthe organization. No, so building a
(43:28):
staff. I work extremely hard inthe off season. So teaching you know,
all our staff. Hey, offseason isn't isn't a vacation. We'll
we're a work and do meetings, you know, several times throughout the week
to you know, just you know, the front office and finding you know,
our people that helped us in thefront office and ultimately get into the
(43:50):
season and we had you know, three hugely exciting games here at home.
All of those things just make theyear very, very special. Just something
I'll never forget. It's you know, there's a few seasons that just where
you take you know, the holisticlook at the whole thing that's just special.
(44:13):
And this will be one of those, you know, just all that
we endured and really, you know, as we kind of laughed in the
off season, just kind of thephoenix rising from the ashes. You know,
our names, the Firebirds just youknow, hors and fire all the
things that we've attributed to twenty twentyfour all came to fruition, and it
just just what an amazing job abunch of people that love this town and
(44:37):
love Arena football can do. Whenthey get together, they put their you
know, put their effort and hardwork and ideas together. I mean,
I'm just so proud of this organizationfrom talked about them, just every single
person did so much to make surethis season was here and it and it
showed. I mean, we're atthe American Dream and you know, when
(44:58):
we ran out under the field, introduced it was, it was, it
sounded like a home game. Andthat's the testament to what we've done.
And that's that's what makes this sospecial. I mean, there's so many
people that have already reached out tome and you're gonna be around and I
love it is. We built somuch goodwill and the communities behind us.
So twenty twenty five, the outlookis just outstanding. And so we've got
(45:22):
to go through the roster and decide, you know, which of our twenty
four guys will come back in twentytwenty five and go through that, find
some other guys to fill some holesand gaps, and we'll get our coaches
respect. So there's so much workto do. I mean, I'm sitting
in the office right now and justgoing through everything, and so there's so
much more to do, and justyou know, how fun will twenty twenty
(45:43):
five be after all of what we'vedone in twenty twenty four. It's just
such a great outlook. And likeI said, I just hats off to
every person that helped us this organization. Love all of you guys, every
single one of you. Man,this was one special year. Coach David.
Where listen, I need everyone todo me a favor. The only
way he's gonna take a break isif you get him on a golf course.
(46:04):
So please email right, do whateveryou gotta do. If there's open
foursome, charity golf tournaments, whateverit is, make sure this guy's swinging
his golf club as much as possible, because he deserves it. I will
definitely take that absolutely. That ismy four hours, four and a half
hours of peaceful time out with thebirds to do on the ground, some
(46:24):
of them, you know. Makesure that is a very peaceful time.
So anybody wants to invite me,I'm there. That's the one thing I
know that can get him away fromstudying football. The professors, get him
on a golf course. It's it. It's the only thing. I'll drag
him away. Coach. We appreciateall your time during the season. Your
phone will continue to ring from thevacking guys on Fox Sports. And we
(46:45):
do have a scheduled golf out inthe vac in September for a live show.
So now I gotta ring coaches, make sure he gets on the course
with us in September. You andI won't play, obviously, because we
don't want to embarrass ourselves, butI'll play. I don't mind embarrassing myself.
You have to do the show.I'll I can't. I just will
mike him up. But he canride around. Let's go. This is
(47:06):
my coach and I work so welltogether. Thank you, coach, and
joy Flock University to night we'll talkagainst sued Ah rightick. Thank you guys,
seriously, just a great addition ofthe Capitol reason, not even just
the football part, just to havehim in the community. Has his son
who just got a big scholarship, his beautiful wife, Nanny, who takes
suffers no fools. My friends, there's good people, and I'm glad they're
(47:27):
part of our community. I saythis all the time of the bank,
and I don't think it's any different. Coach where that right there, he
didn't have to do. He justlost the championship game. It's three days
later. He can go and reset, go on vacation with his family.
He can do anything else right now. I said, talk to us for
nearly twenty minutes about it, andhe did that. And that appreciate Coach
where for always, especially like withme, he can he knows he can
(47:47):
tell me like not today, likeyou know what I mean, Like we
sit next to each other, ouroffices are about six feet away from each
other. Every day. He couldeasily go to me, Jeff, I
don't want to do it, andthen one hundred percent. But he's actually
leaned forward and said, listen, let's you know. It means so much
the way the community has really embracedthis team that he we it's weird.
(48:09):
We we lost the game. Wehurt, we wanted to win it so
bad for for the people, forthe fans, everything. But it still
feels like we won this year justbecause the way this year is gone.
It's weird. It's a it's ait's not it's not a moral victory.
It's it's uh, it's a communityvictory. It's a it's a it's a
growth, a maturity victory. Butwe still wish that trophy was sitting next
(48:31):
to it. Some would say, don't sleep on the Firebirds for next year,
which is an awkward and forced transitioninto not that I like better.
But coach where showed us in thesecond hour? Here is is play.
The day is coming up in ahalf hour. But we still love the
Integrative Sleep Center. H percent lovethe Integrated Sleep Center, embosses SPA.
Doctor Fred Dreer is amazing. Soyou're a very successful and great dentist,
(48:54):

What is this mouthpiece thing? Whatis obstructive sleep avenue? What is this
thing that's hurting my clients? Oh? You know what, Let me take
the time to become a diplomat ofdental sleep medicine. Let me study that
so I can help people even more. That's what the guy did, and
that's what he continues to do.Lorian's in the office, Ivy's there,

they'll do everything. They kind ofmake it easy on you. All
you gotta do is call five eighteight five six eight five. They'll walk
you through the rest. For me, I found out I had an extreme
sleep apnea. I would stop breathingso much. If you added up as
like twelve thirteen minutes an hour thatI was not breathing, my score is
(49:37):
like one of those ones where they'relike, Yo, this guy needs help
right now. At the mouthpiece,I'm in a totally better place, energy
level, everything is better because I'msleeping better. You can have that same
experience. People can plain less. The snoring is quieter eight eight five six
