Speaker 1 (00:00):
We two for opening Fox Sports nine eighty ninety five
(00:03):
point nine.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Fact it's Lavak and Guz on ninety five to nine
Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:12):
The sky's officially falling. It's the end. It's all over,
Yankee fans. The White Sox the worst team in baseball,
one of the worst teams in the history of Major
League Baseball. They do something only two teams done in
the last one hundred plus years. They defeat the best
team in baseball season high in runs ten plus run
(00:34):
victory stats. The terrible, no good White Socks pounded the
Yankees last night. This guy gritty Seizemar wonderful Cleveland Indian
slash guardian, never managed the baseball game before he gets
his first win. This is as bad as it gets.
Levak tell me today, Jeffrey Allen Levac, that this is
(00:56):
as awful as it could be for you New York Yankees.
Speaker 4 (00:59):
Say it, Lavack, say his namon he appears. It's the
Cardinal baby the Cardinals here.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
That is Notva.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
It's tu Jeff Lavac, That's who it is.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
That's right. You may know him as the Cardinals. You
reference him on the show during the play of the day.
Cross social media platforms, the host of no credentials required.
You see him at Firewolf, Firebird, Valley Cat Games. A
local sports writer Ryan McCarthy in studio with us today.
You will not hear a Lavac rain about the Yankees.
We may hear Ryan Ran about the Yankees. Ryan, thank
(01:32):
you for philling in today. We used to joke around
that only huge, big stories happened when Leavac is off.
I don't know if this falls in that category, but
at some point he will ran, Well, let's do it.
What do you make of what happened yesterday involving the
Yankees and White Side?
Speaker 4 (01:46):
I won't be surprised of when Jeffrey Allen Levac as
choir calls in to sound off on the New York Yankees.
Speaker 3 (01:55):
From the top of uh, what's the Princess Fiona from
a top splash Mountain, the artist formerly known as Splashbout.
I'm trying to figure out that princess. That's right, things
have changed. It's a princess f based that Firear and boot.
(02:15):
What did you make in the last night's game involved
in the White Sox and the Yankees?
Speaker 4 (02:20):
You know the White Sox have defeated one opponent one
opponent by ten or more runs this season, in this
execrable season that they're having one of the worst ever
in mid league baseball history. It was the New York Yankees.
This is this is something else. This is something else. Uh,
(02:43):
I'm I'm not quite at sky's falling just yet, although
I did see a podcast this morning where one of
the co hosts was actually it's the locally based podcast
Yankees Universe. One of the co hosts, Gary Shaffield Junior,
the son of former Yankee Gary Sheffield. He was wearing
a paper back over his head, Oh no, yeah, to
(03:05):
tell his feelings about the about last night's loss. This
is this was just terrible. This was terrible.
Speaker 3 (03:13):
Will it change the future of the New York Yankees?
Will this potentially come back and cost the Yankees a
playoff spot?
Speaker 4 (03:19):
No?
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Will it cost in the division?
Speaker 1 (03:22):
Maybe?
Speaker 3 (03:22):
I joked almost evily yesterday as an oriole fan, and
I thought, you know, it would be kind of funny
if when the season ends, the Yankees lose by a
one game and this is the game we go. I
obviously didn't think that was going to happen. If you're
someone who likes to wager and play the plays of
the day. This is the second biggest upset of the
season so far, for this game going down for the
(03:45):
White Sox taking down the Yankees. Uh is it awful
for the Yankees. Yeah, it's embarrassing. It's a bad look
that a team that barely could hit the ball had
eighteen hits last night. Is it something you're gonna want
to brag about? If you're a White Sox fan, Let's
be care like you. I just joke around, like when
you're the sports information director at a college when you've
(04:06):
got to make the next year media guy. Digitally, this
will be on the front page of how do we
spin one hundred and fifteen lost season? Well, we beat
the Yankees. Remember that game back in August. They can't
make any more moves now, nobody's getting benched. I want
to be I want to trash the Yankees so bad today.
I want to just pile on them and say this
is gonna be the game we look back and say
(04:27):
this is where Baltimore's an advantage and took the Al East
and ran away with it. As of this moment right now,
no sport, basketball, hockey, football, nothing is quite like baseball,
where a bad team can beat a good team, like
the least amount of shocking upsets really does happen in baseball.
People love the discussion can a college team beat a
(04:48):
pro team? And usually the answer is always absolutely not.
But if you had a really good college pitcher go
up against the pro team, like if you had the
Oregon State Beavers play a single eight team, maybe you
know they actually could potentially happen. I'm gonna be nice
and positive today. I feel like this is just an anomaly.
It won't happen again. You're not gonna see them get
(05:11):
pounded by ten runs again tonight. I'm just gonna chalk
this up as the White Sox got excited that Gritty
Sizemore was the new manager. This meant far more to
them than the Yankees. I feel like this is not
gonna change the season. But maybe I'm being too optimistic
about it. Ryan.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
I would say this last night's game was they come
to Jesus moment for the Yankees, but they had too
many of them in June and July, Yes, they had.
They swept the Phillies, who at the time at the
time was on I believe it was Gus's number one
for power rankings for Major League Baseball because they had
the quote best record in baseball unquote that's right, that's right,
(05:51):
only the technicality, not because Yankees swept them. But this
it's another come to Jesus moment for them. It was
a love fest for US Yankee fans back in April
and May when this team was crushing everyone, absolutely everyone.
And then they run into the American League East part
(06:11):
of the schedule and they start losing games, they start
losing series. They were getting ready for four games sweep
in Kansas City until claim Clay Holmes has an awful
outing in the ninth inning and blows the save, and
they go on to lose their next what eight consecutive
series until the to the All Star break, And they
(06:32):
had other coming to just the just moments moments then too,
But this tops the list. Last night's loss tops the list.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
It's hard for me to say, well, the Yankees had
their opportunity to say at their moments, and a ten
run loss usually that's like a one to two run loss,
like hey, if this ball goes this way, or this
play happens this way, or the floodgates opened up, we
really can't do it for a ten run loss. However,
for the sake of this conversation to lead off the show,
there were a few moments in the game last night.
It's like, Okay, this kind of gone completely different. Aaron
(07:01):
Judge hits one of the warning track that gets over
the fence. Maybe we're talking differently today.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
And God's win player of the day, thank you.
Speaker 3 (07:09):
See this is someone who listens to the show man.
He knew why he wanted me to watch that Judge
home run. Flyer of the fence. Would have liked my
home run part later cash, thank you very much. But yeah,
like that would have been a huge part of the game.
If Judge gets set over the fence. Believe the number
is sixteen base runners left on sixteen bas.
Speaker 4 (07:26):
Team base runners two for eighteen and runners in scoring
with runners in scoring position two for eighteen.
Speaker 3 (07:32):
It's worth repeating multiple times because you for eighteen. It's
not as right. It's not as if the White Sox
pitchers dominated the Yankees. It's not as though there was
like a four hitter or two hitter out there. You
know what, Chicago's got a star player. They should have
helt him into the deadline. That's not they had the
opportunities to blow this game winal, but it didn't happen. Look,
that's a lot of excuses, that's a lot of Again,
(07:53):
one or two runs, we can do that storyline ten runs. No,
but there were still moments last night. The White Socks
are terrible. I can't even spit it. The like, oh,
they got good playtions. I know. A lot of the
postgame quotes were about how proud, gratty, size more was
they continue to play. When you've got ninety plus losses
in mid August, guys can quit. This is like the
dirty spar art of pro sports that their checks still
(08:15):
cash whether they lose fifteen in a row or win
fifteen in a row, like Chicago's fine, they got to
go to there. It feels far more like a job
when you're losing compared to when you're winning and having
fun like when you grew up.
Speaker 4 (08:25):
But look look, Unlike football, basketball, hockey, big paychecks are guaranteed.
In midle league baseball, every contract is a guaranteed contract.
Doesn't matter if you don't get if you don't have
a signing bone, if you have a certain meet certain incentives,
you still get it. You still catch a paycheck. Oh,
(08:46):
I hit below them, then the below the Mendoza line.
This year, Oh I still get my eight million bucks.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
And that's the thing where like the White Socks could
really say we're done, like we're good. You trade it
all away, our best players. Management's trashed us all season long.
You fired everybody, Our ownership doesn't care about us. But
whether that's pride, whether that's respect, the White Socks went out,
that's like a really sad thing to say about a franchise. Hey,
they're still showing up, they're still going to work, they're
(09:14):
still trying. We're grown men and adults. But that's the
storyline of the postgame press conference of what the White
Socks were doing. Yankee fan, it's about as bad as
it could be. Uh, when do you start previewing tonight's game?
The Yankees are listed as a minus three hundred favorite,
so uh it seems like it should be it's slaughtering
tonight for New York to bounce back against Chicago in
(09:35):
the South Side.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Only gods could see it. I rolled my eyes as
soon as I heard that line. Minus three hundred. Okay, okay, Vegas.
Wait as a second, I think I know what you mean.
You know you're not getting baited, are you.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
You're not. You're not saying you're thinking about going the
other way. You say that I want to fad them.
I love, Oh my goodness, what a tease.
Speaker 4 (09:55):
Confession confession to make? All right? I faded the White
Sox to night they won, they their winning shriek. Okay,
I faded them. This makes me want to fade the
Yankees more.
Speaker 3 (10:05):
Somewhere, you hear the word value bouncing around your head.
For all the Brian Mariano takes that Andy Sterling takes
in Matthew sants. You're like, I know, there's no value
in minus three hundred. They've said that on the show before. No,
how about we do this. We will save your play
for White Socks and Yankees for play of the day.
All right, unless you've got something else, Maybe you give
us a little double dip in the play that they
come up forty five.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
Here's a little tease, little teas here. And what we
call something in the radio industry, the teas or the
podcast industry, is a tease. I may also have a
futures bet for the NFL as well.
Speaker 3 (10:36):
Oh look at this, I like that stuff Yankees, White Sox,
that series will resume tonight, whether fans wanted to resume
tonight or not. We will get more Yankees White Sox action.
You know, we just went ten minutes talking about the
Yankees and the White Sox. I feel like we do
have to least hit on Aaron Boone real quick, like
(10:58):
everyone's gonna look at Aaron Boone. These are one of
these moments. These are these afternoons A Yankee fan, you know,
George want to put up with this? Imagine George. Sometimes
I wonder, like, what if George Steinerunner had Twitter. Jim
Murers says, firing off tweets for the Colts, Mark Cuban's
battling with people owners or former owners of teams. I
just imagine some days if George Steinbrunner had Twitter, what
(11:20):
it would be like. These are these afternoons? How nuts
you'd be going. I don't think he'd fire Aaron Boom
today and call the season and everything else. I would
just like, if you know, Jerry Jones is holding press conferences,
Jerry Jones is talking about ceedee lamb, just give me
a mic today, just dropping from George stein Runner. I
have some cameras rolling. These are the afternoons. I wish
(11:41):
the old boss was alive.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
Yeah, this is this is the afternoon. I wish that
we had Dan Gilbert sending out tweets and comic sands.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Never win a championship ever before us. Then what happened?
How amazing was that Dan Gilbert thing? Oh man, do
you think Dan Gilbert for those who don't know that,
reference Dan Gilbert the owner of the Cavaliers after Lebron
left it, did the decision and then fired that off.
And do you think he had it in drafts because
(12:10):
it's pretty quick he got that out there, Like do
you think he thought Lebron was gonna leave and already
like had heard and then he fired up the draft
and waited. He's like, you know what, maybe I should
maybe I shouldn't. Her Edwards don't hit send. I don't
care what Herm Edwards says. This is going on social
Cleveland's gonna love me for this one.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
I'm smiling because it's it's one of those sports conspiracy
theories that I always I love, I absolutely love. I
think Dan Gilbert got word from Lebron James before Lebron
went on air with his decision, and as soon as
he made it as soon as he said, Miami Heat,
I'm going to the Miami I'm taking my talents to
(12:47):
the Miami Heat. Fired off that tweet and comic sands
just for the world to see.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
You know what, oh Dan Gilbert, you gave us creative content.
You enjoyed it. So it was wild that that point
that he sounded like a poudy baby who didn't get
the toy he wanted for whatever holiday or birthday. But
it was entertaining as if whether or not the conspiracy
Lebron did call Dan Gilbert. I just hope he did,
you know, like he would probably play it up like
(13:14):
it was a college football decision, college basketball, like that's
what he really wanted. Dwayne Wade, his former teammates, to
say that like his head his college years and everyone
else got to do the decision day. If you are
somebody who's looking for a new place of employment, if
you're somebody that's making these college decisions, I know, it's
really cool to do it with signing day and your
friends and family. Let's say I'm fortunate enough to be
the father of a college athlete. Let's say baby Rex
(13:36):
or Wes get that they will be calling every single
coach and telling them or that's right, baby, tray, they
will be calling every coach and telling them, I'm not
coming to your school. You gotta deal with that. If
they've done your time to recruit you, they he should
have done that if he didn't.
Speaker 4 (13:52):
Seat in the real world for working guys like us
had we give two weeks notice. They don't do that
professional sport. They just say bye, thanks for the paycheck,
thanks for the love. I had a conco somewhere else.
Speaker 3 (14:06):
And that's the thing too, really like they have a contract.
But so as you mentioned earlier, like some leagues have
that right, okay contract where no, no, that's not how
this works anymore. Some businesses have different ways in which
they figure out their employment. Uh, let's dive deeper here
into the hour about some topics that our guy Ryan
McCarthy from No Credentials required fill it in today for Levac.

Thank you, Thank you, guys. I appreciate it, and I
gotta say too, I'm very it's I'm very appreciative to
you for allowing me to come on here today and
being in this this historic this is the historics. This
is a historic moment for me because I mean I'm
in a place where history has been made. We need
(21:51):
a little WGY studios.
Speaker 3 (21:53):
That's exactly right, not Lovack and guy's the history. Although
we appreciate I appreciate the compliment WGY for those who
are listening outside of the Capitol region, the oldest radio
station in New York State, we share a studio with WGUI.
We are honored to do that. One hundred and two
years one of the oldest stations in the country live broadcast.
The history is there, especially for a Capital region. Guy
like yourself. It is cool that we get to do
(22:15):
this every single day. I don't want to take that
for granted. You also are a Jet fan. You can
describe that as being cool or stressful or sad sad.
I text you or shot you message. I'm like, let's
talkbout this sona Reddick stuff early in the show, and
I see you've stacked your takes here about Hasano Retick.
You've got a lot of feels like to say, or
maybe not if you missed the news right when we
(22:36):
broke yesterday, Hassan Redik had requested a trade and it
felt like there was more drama involving Reddick, and the
rumors are already out there. As a Jet fan, let's
start with question one. How do you feel about Hassan
Redick right now? Does he he must have for this
team to hit their goals if you want to see
this team go deep? How important is he to this
(22:59):
success of the twenty two twenty four Jets season.
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Well, let's lead off with this. It's not Jets camp
unless there's some sort of drama involved.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
That's right, right, Yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Always some sort of drama involved. It's the circus. The
circus that is the New York Jets, although admittedly, in
the last half decade or so, that draw as circus
has been kind of uh, it's not as been as
prominent as it once was. Yet there's no elephants, there's
no teaming, there's no line tamer or nothing like that.
Speaker 3 (23:27):
But it's a little smaller. There's still a circus.
Speaker 4 (23:30):
But still a circus, but it's not as big as
it used to be. As far as the son Reddick goes, look,
both both sides look bad. I think both sides look bad.
You got Joe Douglas coming in saying, and he dealt
a sixth round pick in twenty twenty six to get
Hassan retic it's pretty unmuch cheap. If you asked me,
(23:51):
you're you're look give it away your future a little bit,
but you're hoping to get something in return. But I
feel but I think Hassan le like Reddick, looks worse,
hasn't been He was not at OTAs, he's not been
to camp at all. He hasn't met his teammates in person.
He's losing a lot of money. And yes, his cut,
(24:13):
his his deal with the Jets is a non guaranteed contract.
I think it's fourteen million. It's not guaranteed, correct, yep.
So he's already losing a bunch of money right now.
I think he's lost what two and as I'm trying
to the mask correctly, he's losing fifty thousand dollars a
day or a five hundred thousand dollars a day. I
(24:34):
can't remember which which one it was, but let's put
this way. He's losing a lot of money.
Speaker 3 (24:41):
Yeah, for not showing up to work being fined every
single day. I thought about this as more and more
details have come out about the story. In particular, Joe
Douglas just flat out saying, nah, I want to trade Nah,
We're not doing it. Not gonna trade you. Now you're
gonna hesitate. I wonder if this is if it all
has played a factor in the decision by Joe Douglas
and Robert Solin. The Jets organization just let out say
(25:02):
we're not trading you because they know everything's on the
line for them, Like if your Jets go nine to
eight this season and miss the postseason, Douglas is gone,
Salad is gone. So he's aware of that. He's like,
why would I trade you and let somebody else benefit
from those picks. Why would I trade you when I'm
the one who traded for you? And maybe more importantly,
(25:24):
why would I give you a new contract when I
don't know what you're gonna play like? I would rather
get a ticked off a son reddick who's got to
play for a new deal and benefit the Jets and
us and how you play and see what twenty twenty
five brings, then give you the money. You kick your
feet up. You might be a second or third trigger
(25:45):
and it costs us the season. I feel like the
understanding and awareness that everyone's job's on line for the
Jets has made this decision easier for Douglas and soln say,
you got to come to work. We're not paying you
if you don't find but we're no. My job's on
the line. I need you to be out there. You
signed the deal. This is the plan, this is gonna happen.
(26:06):
I have no bad I don't feel at all awful
that your twenty twenty five contract might not be what
it is because I might not sign it. It hasn't
truly at this point how he's looking at it. It
has no effect on me. Hassan Redick, because if I'm
not here at twenty twenty five, it definitely does have
an effect on I'm am I reaching too much on this.
Do you think that plays into this decision by Douglas
(26:28):
Solin the organization of why would we bring him in
when we might not even be here to reap the
benefits of that deal or his performance.
Speaker 4 (26:40):
No, you're not off base at all, because they've got
two premier pass prushers all one premier pass rusher right
now and Jermaine Johnson the second had a breakout year
last year. Bryce Huff was able to parlay his ten
plus sacks and sixty pressures into a multimillion dollar contract
with the Philadelphia Eagles. They acquired Reddick from. I'm the
(27:03):
cheap But yeall look at this. If you're a Hassan Redick,
you're saying, Okay, I'm not only am I losing a
lot of money right now? I turned thirty in September, Mike.
The clock is running out on my career, and I've
had a pretty good career as it is right now.
I had eleven sacks last season. I got traded to
(27:23):
a who could be a Super Bowl contender, who could
be and I'm I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm knocking on wood.
I'm rubbing rabbit's feet as we speak as I say this,
because look, I'm I turned forty seven next week. I've
never seen the just go to the super Bowl, well,
(27:43):
the first and only super Bowl they've been to. I
was not even a glimmer in my daddy's eye. Hi, Dad, Mom,
high Dad, Clever? Whoa with the glimmer? Ma, He's got
a decision to make, is am? I Is it worth
asking for trade when I know that Joe Douglas plays hardball.
(28:04):
I'm gonna take you back on the way back machine, guys,
all the way to the year twenty twenty, twenty twenty machine,
the worst year of my life. I'm sure a lot
of people's lives. Jamal Douglas, Jamal Douglas. Jamal Adams said
the same thing. He was trying to play a hardball
with Joe Douglas and Douglas Joe Douglas looks out of
(28:26):
him and says, I'm gonna trade you Seattle have fun
in the Northwest. Got two first round picks out of it,
those first round picks being Elijah Beara Tucker, who although
he's had some injury problems with a Thank god they
don't play in Denver this year. Avoid Denver like the
play for the rest of your career. A jat av
(28:47):
t else got Garrett Wilson out of it, so right
now he he wins that.
Speaker 3 (28:53):
Trade in Adam a little bit more contexts of this,
and Jet fans know this. Jamal Adams wasn't good in Seattle.
Blitz Boy he was nicknamed quickly. He was a contributor,
but he wasn't an all pro, can't miss gona change
become the next legion to Boom. So the combination of
getting contributors for the Jets and blitz Boy not being
good out in Seattle, it was a great trade for
Joe Douglas.
Speaker 4 (29:14):
Yeah, and here's the other thing. Joe Douglas will not
pay the Juts tax. You know what the Jets tax is.
The Jets tax is your team is terrible, and you
need a free agent a difference making free agent as
a splash for the New York tabloid paper as a
post the daily News. You need a splash. You need
to overpay somebody to come to your town because you
(29:36):
know your team is terrible. Joe Douglas doesn't play. He
don't play. He doesn't play that. He didn't play that game.
He's Thanos, all right, I have I had somebody make
a meme of of of Joe Douglas with the Thanos goblin.
One snap and you're a gun. You're a gun if
you ask for a trade or if you try to
play hardball with him. He's not paying the Jets tax.
He's not. He's not Mike Tannenbaum. He's not uh it,
(30:00):
he's not Mike mccagnan. He didn't play that game. He
is not like past gms where you had to overpay
a player to get him to stake, to convince him
to stay in New York.
Speaker 3 (30:14):
And it feels like to compare what's happening here with
the Jets to other storylines in the NFL, like the
Cene Lamb, thing's a little different. I'm gonna pass on that.
I know that's got a lot of interesting storylines in
Dak Prescott. It feels like the closest comparison to this
would be what's going on with Brandon Ayuk and the Niners.
And I know there's reports out there now that Ayuk
basically has a deal in place to go to the Steelers,
(30:36):
but he may not go there. And then San Francisco
has a deal with Ayuk, and Auk's like nah. And
then he also had been dealt to the Browns and
he's like, I don't want to go there either, So
like they're trying to get rid of him according to reports. So,
but the difference between Ayuk and Reddick is that Ayuk
is being considered a top ten twelve if you really
love him, top eight wide receiver, and now this is
(30:59):
his operation need to become the guy. Deebo Saytuel and
Christian McCaffrey the two targets by Yuke thinks he's the guy.
So why that's difference between him and Reddick is that
everybody's got a pass rusher, everybody's got their guy. If
somebody wanted Hassan Redick, they would have dealt for him
when the Jets dealt for him. If somebody really wanted
(31:19):
Brandon Ayuk, they would give up more. That's the problem
where it's like we talk about leverage. The similarity between
this is that both the Jets and the Niners believe
they can get as far as to the Super Bowl
with these guys. Like the Niners think they're a better
offensive Ayuk than they are, and the Jets are a
better defense with Redick. The problem is can they get
a contributor in that deal to almost offset it. Hey,
(31:40):
we can get a pick and a contributor. Douglas is
less likely to take that risk, as we mentioned, because
I don't know if I'm going to see that guy
play or be a contributed like a what I'm two
and twenty twenty five, and the Niners think if we're
not better, we lose out on the opportunity to go
to the super Bowl. It's not as easy to replace something.
And we know we saw the Chiefs do it with
Tyreek Hill. It's easier when you have Patrick Mahomes. So
(32:01):
there are some similarities, but the big difference is job security.
John Lynch and Kyle shanahanhart going anywhere, Joe Douglas and
Robert Solomon might be going somewhere if this dealer goes down.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
Yeah, and here's a couple of things. Well, one funny
thing is that if if Joe Douglas says to Son Reddick, Okay,
I'm gonna trade you, I'm gonna treat you to the Panthers.
I'm gonna tread you outside of the division.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
He trades you to somebody who do the Panthers love
fire and off rain depicts her stuff. They won't do it.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
And his son, Reddick is a former Panther, so so
so hey, welcome home, I guess. But here's the other thing.
If he wants to get paid, who are you gonna
try to convince to restructure their contract? Are you gonna
try to convince Aaron Rodgers to restructure his contract? Which,
by the way, if you're Aaron Rodgers, you have to
be the happiest man on earth that the attention is
(32:50):
not on you in camp this year to a certain extent.
Speaker 3 (32:54):
To a certain extent, I know what you mean by
the point that Rogers is happy that the storylines and
the reports aren't on him as much. But I feel
like if the name wasn't Aaron Rodgers, you could spin
that and say, is Aaron Rodgers disappointed that the attention
isn't on him this offseason? He negative? And I know
it's a dead picking there a little bit, but I
(33:14):
just have to push on Rogers, somebody who is very
happy to talk into a microphone when it's put in
front of us.
Speaker 4 (33:19):
It's quite all right. And I know there's a there's
an unauthorized biography coming out of him that's got some.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Some juice, some juice tea spilling from the O'Connor out there.
Speaker 4 (33:30):
Some j O O sc coming out there pretty soon
to the your to your to your reading device, or
to your your hands if you're if you're a hard
hard copy or soft copy.
Speaker 3 (33:40):
I'll give een O'Connor the plug here. I believe the
name of the book is out of Darkness, something like
cool like that. It's like emerged from darkness or out
of darkness, this true story of Aaron Rodgers, which again
I'm just seeing what in O'Connor is done to promote
the book. This happens all the time, like the juiciest
stories get out first to promote the book and then
there's no more juice left. But it feels like the
(34:01):
opposite of Gunslinger by Jeff Pearlman. If you've never read
that book, that book became famous because that's the one
where Farv was like picking on Rogers and never helped him,
never supported him, like Brett fav came out like a
jerk in the Jeff Pearlman book about Gunslinger that he
never helped Rogers. Whatever. The other version opposite of that
is could be this book about you know, O'Connor coming out.
(34:22):
So there you go. The intention still could be back
on Rogers, But I know your point. Raddick is taking
the negative headlines becoming the story of the summer because
he's not out there.
Speaker 4 (34:29):
Yeah, and come back to who are you gonna ask
to research on your contract? Are you gonna ask Aaron Rodgers?
Are you gonna ask Quinnin Williams? Are you gonna ask
Quincy Williams. I'll just also have to find a way
to sign to extend Sauce Gardner, DJ Reid, Garrett Wilson's
gonna ask for an extension soon. His rookie. His rookie
(34:51):
deals up, so is Bryce Hall's. I mean, I mean
you bring in Brayalen Allen as kind of an insurance policy.
By the way, Jet's preseason reaction coming, I love that
running back room. That running back room is gonna be
so good this year. If you didn't watch Brillan Ellen
running angry in the preseason game against Washington, I think
(35:12):
had nine carries for fifty four yards. He's died for
seing six yards of carry. Dude runs angry. I love it.
Speaker 3 (35:18):
So he's only twenty years old. He had that weird
birthday fall in. He declared early. He got out of it.
He's gonna have a very interesting career that either he's
gonna like fizz out too fast because of immaturity, which
gonna happen when you're twenty years old. I don't know
him personally, but we see this happen twenty twenty one
year olds when they get there, just to grown men
out there. Or he might be in the league for
(35:39):
like twelve years. He might have a very long career,
hopefully with the Jets, and he's very good. You know what,
I'm gonna give you an unfair question and you're not
gonna like it, but I just want to take another.
Speaker 4 (35:48):
Shot at power through it.
Speaker 3 (35:50):
I'm gonna give Jet fans just a little quick reminder
because we talked about pay cuts and contracts and movement
and Rodgers and attention. Since we did hop in a
time machine, le's just move it up a little bit
to like July of twenty twenty three. Remember there was
a story last year that Aaron Rodgers took a pay cut,
that Aaron Rodgers took a thirty five million dollar pay cut,
(36:13):
and everyone wanted to talk about, Oh, Aaron Rodgers is
the grandmost spent, full coward there. A Rogers the greatest
teammate ever, thirty five million dollars just doing it for
the team, a few year partnership. I'm okay with a
nod taking thirty five lies lies, lies lies. If he
hit thirty five million dollars, where's a son Reddick? You know,
(36:38):
they all of a sudden want to put out the
pr press release that Aaron Rodgers is the greatest teammate effort.
Let's put it out there a hard knocks to show
how unselfish he is. Caps move finances, move dead cat moves.
There's a ton of stuff that we could sit through
and do three hours on a salary cap. I would
just like to point out that we all talked last
summer about Rogers being the greatest thing since slice spread.
(36:58):
He took a thirty five million dollar cut to play
for the Jets and go after it. That money disappeared
in twenty twenty four. Where the money go? If it was,
Where's who did I miss? Ryan McCarthy that Rogers took
this thirty five million dollar pay cut according to everybody
last summer, and they used it to sign Alan Lazard
(37:19):
ainal cop. Maybe maybe I missed it. You know, you
talked about the jet tax, like no, no, no, we're gonna
bring you big time. Who they get out of that
thirty alleged I'm gonna call it alleged thirty five million
dollar pay cut from Rogers.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
Sportsmass is hard, guys.
Speaker 3 (37:33):
I know, right, like people, this is the great thing
people of manipulating the salary cap because we'll find out
like oh, yeah, you know the rams they move the
money around because it's guaranteed and non guaranteed and it's
actually undertaker money where it was dead but then it
sat up like two years in and now it's alive,
but no one knows. You're all liars if you think
you know how the NFS sary cap works.
Speaker 4 (37:53):
I have a dirty secret for you in the NFL. Oh,
there is no salary cap.
Speaker 3 (38:00):
Would that be a great confession after all these years?
Oh that would be there is actually no salary cap. No, no,
we just you guys don't know.
Speaker 4 (38:07):
Another sports great sports conspiracy theory to be put out
there into the ether. You know, NFL salary cap does
not exist.
Speaker 3 (38:15):
I hear this term, and I use this a little
bit yesterday. There's certain things in sports. I use this
about the top twenty five pull that came out yesterday.
And this is not to say all of us are dumb,
but I like using the term easier to digest. Right, so,
one of my youngest west is like going through foods
that he likes and doesn't like.
Speaker 10 (38:30):
You.
Speaker 3 (38:31):
I gotta chop it up a little bit easier to
when you start trying to explain how the cat nobody wants.
Nobody's got time, We're all busy. Just tell us if
they can sign this player or not, and how they
do it done. I feel like even like the word
salary cap really to the extent of how you could
bend the rules of it. A lot of fans in
sports people media members didn't quite cares too strong, but
(38:52):
uh really realize the manipulation until the heat Lebron Dwayne Wade,
and Chris Bosh like, can't have buy them all in
the same Yes you can, and here's how whoa what
do you mean we can do that? Since then, we've really,
as sports fans, looked at the salary cap a different
If we're gonna play that conspiracy theory thing, I have
bumper here. Maybe we'll do another one later that the
(39:14):
salary cap really doesn't exist. Can I add in another
because I got another that would like to be on
this island of conspiracies if the salary cap doesn't exist.
One day we'll find out who actually picks the basketball
Hall of Fame. That's like a great one for me
because we know who does it. In the baseball Hall
of Fame, the votes are public, the ballots are out there.
People want to brag about not voting, so we know
(39:35):
that you know who.
Speaker 4 (39:35):
To yell at if your pair of player doesn't get in.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
That's exactly it.
Speaker 5 (39:38):
Like.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
We know how the MVP voting works in most sports,
it's regionally based. We know how the NFL Hall of
Fame works. You literally have to get in front of
a room and present the candidate, which is actually find
really cool.
Speaker 4 (39:49):
That's pretty cool.
Speaker 3 (39:50):
The Heisman voters you can find. I would say eighty
percent of them are out there, but the ballots are private,
and hopefully I don't take my vote away, and I
always say they should be public. Go look at the
bast Skeootball Hall of Fame. Who elects that. It's a
secret committee because it's both remember College International and pro
no one has any idea how it gets picked put
(40:10):
down in the conspiracy?
Speaker 4 (40:12):
Is it the same way that Michael Jordan asked for
Isaiah Thomas to be left out of the nineteen ninety
two Dream Team.
Speaker 3 (40:19):
I think that's less of a conspiracy. And then he
just said okay, Jordan said no, it will keep them off.
Speaker 4 (40:24):
Yeah, Jordan said no, and he wants as much time
for golf as possible. All right, he's in what's the
Isaiah Thomas meme?
Speaker 6 (40:30):
Now?
Speaker 3 (40:31):
I don't know what went into that process, but I
think I qualified or whatever it is now that's always
floating around.
Speaker 4 (40:35):
You have to play in the ninety sixteen, so hey,
it's a it's a it's a nice runner up.
Speaker 3 (40:41):
We've got. We talked Olympics there, we talked Jets there.
There is something you're very passionate about, and it involves
the five one eight And as long as I've known Hugh,
you've talked about this. But you're now making a pledge
to Capital region sports fans about something that's happening locally.
I want that pledge to have a nice open microphone
here on Fox Sports ninety five, nine and ninety and
maybe when you hear Ryan's pledge, you might do it
(41:03):

about really getting in touch with the community and helping
people across here at the five twenty. It's people that
you could trust during the carbon experience.
Speaker 4 (41:37):

from that I acquired from Mohawk Kuk.
Speaker 3 (41:42):

Speaker 4 (41:43):

you mentioned their charity work. They work with one of
my favorite charities, my one of my favorite preferred charities
that it's connected Eat City Mission. They do wonderful work.
Speaker 3 (41:54):
I did the community, Yes, shout out to them. I
did not know you had How did I not know
you had a vehicle from mohawk Kanda.
Speaker 4 (41:59):
I texted you I got it four years ago.
Speaker 3 (42:01):
Oh yeah, you said, twenty twenty was a while, was
a fascinating year. A stuff happened, And now I know
Ryan drive the vehicle from mohaw Kan and we appreciate
his support from Mohawkan. And you'll appreciate their support, whether
it's John and Service or the sales team, social media team,
whoever you're working with to make sure you're rod fits
your's budget, lifestyle and more. Mohawkan will have you covered.
(42:23):
I love my vehicle. I don't know if you knew this, Ryan,
I also drive a car from mohaw Kan.
Speaker 4 (42:28):
What no?
Speaker 3 (42:30):
And my wife what not? A scene a CRV shot
to Cam McKenna, Greg Johnson, everybody over there helping me
get the rise to fit my life, so they can
do the same for you and people that you want
to work with and trust during the experience of Mohawkanda,

Speaker 3 (46:27):
You just heard Lavac's voice there on the podcast the

Ryan McCarthy in for Lavac today. You know him from
Roe Credentials Required, popular podcast here locally sports writer covering
all the teams and more. Ryan you may have heard
this earlier this month. I called this the preseason Pledge.
(46:48):
I promised myself that I was going to get an
upstate New Yorker, Jeremy White, who does some coverage for
the Buffalo Bills out in Western New York, that he
has the preseason pledge that he puts his hand up
and says things along the lines of I will not
over react to preseason football. And I said I was
gonna do my best to get Jeremy on the show.
And I don't know if you know, if I'm very busy,
very important, obviously I'm a big deal here. I have
(47:09):
yet to reach out to Jeremy, so to replace that,
we are now going to change it to the Ryan
McCarthy Pledge, which will take the place of that in
case we never booke Jeremy and maybe he works for
a different company. I forgot to realize that when trying
to book him. Nonetheless, Ryan McCarthy will be taking the pledge. Ryan,
you are a five eight sports writer. What is the
pledge you're willing to give the capital to region listeners today?
Speaker 4 (47:30):
I do want to say disclaimer, my books do not
smell of rich mahogany. But I will pledge. I have
my left hand up a very hand of my laptop.
I don't have a Bible. I didn't bring my Bible in. Sorry,
But my pledge is to give a lot of love
to the local college football team this year. I will
(47:52):
try to make it out to at least one game
for you Albany Union, RPI, and Valley Community College this season?
Speaker 3 (48:02):
WHOA all four of them?
Speaker 4 (48:04):
All four?
Speaker 3 (48:04):
Now? Just quick math off the top of my head. Here,
we have twelve mostly twelve college football games in a
regular season. You might get six home games for a
like I'm trying to do the math in my head
of like. Okay, if the math evens out, there might
only be six available weekends to do this. But you've
pledged now that close to seventy percent of your eligible
weekends to catch home football games here in the five
(48:26):
to one to eight we'll be with these teams. I
have to ask this. I don't think it's just a
love for capitolies and sports, and you've been a big
supporter of that and telling people to make sure to
support your local teams. But it feels like there's something
different in twenty twenty four for you. Is there a
reason why you've picked the local college teams this fall?
Is this is your pledge? Has something sparked this for you?
Speaker 4 (48:46):
I feel like I think part of it is that
we might talk about it in another segment, but or
actually we'll talk about in this segment. Yeah, twenty twenty.
We'll go back to the magical year of twenty twenty.
It kind of ruined college football for me in a way,
just because there was no crowds. There's except for the SEC.
God blessed the SEC schools for allowing people to actually
(49:07):
come into the stands and their bands play while their
games are going on. You didn't see that much in
the Big Ten. You didn't see that at all in
any colleges in New York. I mean you all. But
he didn't play a season that season, And I was
excited for that season because they had come off their first,
their first playoff appearance as an as a CIA member.
(49:28):
They've already had already been the FCS playoffs as a
Northeast as a Northeast Conference member, never as a CIA member.
I was excited for that season. I was genuinely excited
to go down, maybe to go to a game. So
I was still in school at the time, so it
wasn't covering the team, but I was genuinely excited to go.
And New York said, nope, we're gonna xnay. We're gonna
(49:49):
all all the Sunny programs said, we're gonna xnay. The
season and last couple of seasons have been kind of
have been been a struggle. I mean the springs, the
abridged spring season in twenty twenty one, which ca right
over and into the fall, and then the next fall
twenty twenty two not so great. But last year I
got really excited about you Albany because of what they
(50:09):
were doing on the field. Just keep my eye on them,
you guys keeping your eye on them too. I know,
h Levac is a pretty good relation. You're pretty good
friendship with coach Greg Katu, so I see him occasionally
in Bolves in Spa. I'll catch you with the Iron
Roost restaurant, one of his favorite places to go. But yeah,
I always give pro sports a lot of love in
(50:30):
this region. If you've listened to the podcast, you know,
I'm always telling people that go out to games, get
out to games, or you lose the team. At least
with college football, you don't. You won't lose the team
unless something really catastrophic happens. So I said to myself,
all right, self, put your money over your mouth where
your mouth is, and go support local college football because
(50:53):
there's some really great things going on at EU Walbany.
There's some really great things going on with Union. Your
boy coach Drack uh r p I always is always consistent.
I believe they won the last three or four of
the Dutch Shoes the wood the wooden shoe game against Union.
And then you got Hudson Valley Community College and I'm
(51:14):
looking at their coaching roster.
Speaker 3 (51:16):
Coach unk Baby Don Jones.
Speaker 4 (51:18):
Not only as coach NK. But I don't know if
this is this, if this is up to date or not,
but you got two coaches from the Albany Firebirds on
this list.
Speaker 3 (51:28):
That is correct helping out HVCC.
Speaker 4 (51:30):
Brandon CSA, he's an assistant coach. Dive been aware an
assistant coach with the team. So you got two guys
who are already involved with professional football in this area,
who are helping out a local community college helping n
c C n j C Double A Division three kids
get to the next level where whether it be to
(51:51):
the next level and the juniors on the junior side,
or to a local college here or other or another
nca A program.
Speaker 3 (51:58):
Yeah, shout out to all those programs. It's still even
fifteen sixteen years later. I just this is a fun
start of our college sport. So hopefully both programs. So
it could be too much grief, but remember, like those
are my rivals. Like people, if you're a Michigan alumni,
your rivals Ohio State, Army, Navy, like you get college rivalries.
High school and college rivalry is so much so RPI
and Union was Hobart's rival, So I find it hard
(52:21):
to like at times still ri for them, But I've
seen the improvement of RPI football with the things that
have gone into the program in the last fifteen years
of changing the way in which the campus looks, at
the stadium looks and everything else. You flip it to Union.
You mentioned coach Drock and what it's gonna mean to
Union football, who has been so good the past few seasons,
truly a national contender. Some guys who're getting ad some
looks that they have two of the top fifteen running
(52:44):
backs in the country. And I know coach Droc didn't
say that on our interview last week, our conversation, but
those are two of the top. He might have two
All Americans in his backfield. Bring back the wishbone for
Union uh HVCC coach Unk and if you've had an
opportunity to talk to him, who knows, maybe you might
be a guest on the on the show soon for
a year. He has that swagger that he knows what
he's doing but can also recruit a QUI get confidence of.
(53:06):
This is why I'm here. I'm here to bring in talent.
I'm here to find talent and you al any football.
It's coming off the most important season, historic season in
the history of the program with Bob Ford, coach Kutuso,
all the names we've heard in the past, but I
almost have to change that tink of And I know
I'm gonna get grief about this. If you thought the
twenty twenty three season was the most important twenty twenty
(53:28):
four is even more important because if you're trying to
build what you're talking about, fans, people coming out, making
it a part of their weekends. You go from final
fourteen to five and seven, then it resets everything. Oh
remember when you all when he was good in twenty two.
If you're consistently winning, and that goes for everybody all
of a sudden, s like, oh, I'm here to see
a winner all I'm here to see the best that
(53:49):
I hope that more people do what you just did see.
I'm gonna make it a piece of it. Here's one
thing I continue to learn. And maybe this is life
and getting older and everything else. College football is so
much about the experience. You said this about twenty twenty.
Where the band's not playing, the tailgate's not happening, the
walk around campus isn't happening. That's so much about college football.
(54:10):
Coach Drock said it at the end of the conversation.
He said, they're gonna have parents out there having a
great time. So you're gonna go to union and see
some stuff happening on campus and here and everybody having
a great time. You Albany Football's tailgate is underrated because
if you go to a tailgate, a lot of campuses
are so big, you've gotta walk, you gotta find, you
gotta park. Yes it's in the parking lot, but everybody's
(54:32):
so close. Levac and I have done the U Albany
Football Tech. It's awesome. Yeah, like everybody's out there having
a great time, so you can find the experience at
all those spots. I think it's a really cool pledge
to do this upcoming season.
Speaker 4 (54:43):
And I forgot to mention I just looked at the
RPI coaching staff page. Carl Mofor, who played at EU Albany,
is a running backs coach for RPI, So we have
a local connection playing now who played at EU Albany
for his entire career. He is now a running ringbacks
coach for RPI, so he stayed local. That's super cool,
(55:05):
that's super cool to see.
Speaker 3 (55:07):
Take that pledge. Be like Ryan McCarthy, make sure you
see all those local teams as much as you can
this upcoming fall. You've completed one hour. Like the old
video games, you've completed one mission. You now move on
to level two, Ryan McCarthy, you move on to your
second hour of Levak and Guys we've got the top
four to four on the way, next to four biggest
stories in the world of sports on the way. Thanks
to Mohawk KNDA, you're listening to the voice of the

Capitol region sports fan, Fox Sports ninety five to nine
and nine eighty.
Speaker 9 (55:31):
