on a Labor Day weekend in the Capitol Region with
a Final four contending team with teams in the past

week is a compliment to coach Greg Catusso and the
staff and everything else in the popularity that's seen this grow.

last spoke on Friday, we looked at that West Virginia
Penn State game and gosh, there was so much action
on that game. We're talking about the line shifting and
everything else where. By the time that game kicked off,

you're looking at. And West Virginia's defense is pretty good,

can't miss. The energy was through the roof. As you mentioned,
from McAfee to the Fox Sports side, West Virginia fans
were going wild. So when you have all that build up,
the potential knockout victory of a top ten, top fifteen
program in Penn State, but your quarterback's not playing great,

West Virginia struggled to find a playmaker. The defense is good,
they don't look at EU Aalbney and think they're going
to be a test all the adrenalin, all the excitement,
everything else. They're like, well, at least we got an
easy game next week against U Albady, not thinking about
what the great things just did last season, not thinking
about the great things being a Final four team, knocking
off FBS opponents in the past and more. This is

the best player on the field. Nobody can stop this
guy in the game would be over an FBS comparison. Recently,

him on the field. Who does West Virginia have on

So you're telling me you can get into a physical
test and a team on offense that's struggling, that is

and they were in three passing plays. You have a

biggest disappointment is when he looked at some of these
impact best draft class for running backs since twenty seventeen,

program in Penn State, but your quarterback's not playing great,

West Virginia struggled to find a playmaker. The defense is good,
they don't look at EU Aalbney and think they're going
to be a test all the adrenalin, all the excitement,
everything else. They're like, well, at least we got an
easy game next week against U Albady, not thinking about
what the great things just did last season, not thinking
about the great things being a Final four team, knocking
off FBS opponents in the past and more. This is

a perfect setup for you, Albany.

Virginia had Tevon Austin on the offense, a Tevon Austin
like player Stedman Bailey, Steve Slayton, Pat White, we know
what we're talking about here. Where explosive speed, no doubt,
the best player on the field. Nobody can stop this
guy in the game would be over an FBS comparison. Recently,

Travis Hunter in the Colorado game, right, Colorado versus North
Dakota State. He was so much better than everybody else
that turned into a basketball game where it's like, okay,
just give him the ball. Every single nobody can stop
him on the field. Who does West Virginia have on

they have that playmaker. After watching the Penn State game.
So you're telling me you can get into a physical
test and a team on offense that's struggling, that is

And they asked me a question like, don't you feel

like playing Syracuse is your super Bowl? Coach katus Is like,
if playing Syracuse is my super Bowl, then we need
to figure something out because that's not. We accomplished far
more than losing to a four and eight FBS team.
And I think a statement like that, in a moment
like that remade people think about what this FBS FCS
stuff is, Like it's almost too much of a David

versical life because we've seen that James Madison's the world compete.
We're seeing what conference the US they can do. We
saw the North Dakota State game in South Dakota State

like you all, But he's like, we don't care about

hang with anybody which is coming off a Final four
season two.

but you gotta remember too, like I've watched this program
grow to the point where like we've had trolls get

that the takeaways from the game. So the things that
I feel like happened in game one you'll see in
the future that are real impact stories. By the way, well,
Sarah fran Brown, you can hear the fran Brown's Coaches
Show eight o'clock on Saturday, and I actually had a
lot of quotes that impacted the game. This was going viral,
sort of just in the central New York area about

what happened on that show last week, not coach ordering
a Shirley Templin and Berger, but instead, halfway into the show,
they asked me, like, how do you feel about being
a head coach for the first time? He's like, guys,
I gotta be honest, I'm kind of nervous, like I'm
not feeling great about this, Like I gotta make decisions.
I don't know if I'm gonna do well. I've been
calling my mentors about what do I do? Like, WHOA,

that's almost too candid for me, flat un admitting I'm
really nervous about what happens on fourth down. I don't

Arizona in this first game back as an OC, but

fran Brown was very open about his concerns as managing
the clock as a coach. He was good, he said
in the postgame press conference. Coach what's your biggest takeaway?
We need to stop the run, as you said, you
gotta figure that out quick. They got four guys. They
got McCord who's really good. He almost threw a pick
sick on his first pass, though wouldn't have been great
to throw it in the other team's chest on your

first pass, but becred of the quarterback's good Gadsden, that
wide receiver tight end mix digs one of their defense events.
Who is one of these four or five star guys.
He might get actually blocked in a few more games
coming up, but sometimes he was dominating because nobody could
touch him. And the biggest hurt for Syracuse is Marlowe
Wax injured, could be out about a month and a half,

their best defensive player. So those are the takeaways. Can
they find someone to replace Wax on a defense that
gave up two hundred plus yards? Will fran Brown be
able to figure out the clock? And mccording company on
that offense win games by themselves because they're that good
story lines all for Georgia Tech. But yes, yeah, yeah,

as they take on George Yeah yeah, a new noon
kickoff and said, I the JMA Wireless Dome, which that's
my second big takeaway.

This hurts as a Syracuse fan. Someone is a kid
that used to go to the Dome all the time.
That place was a dump for a while, wasn't it
Like it was kind of You see the new seats,
you see air conditioning, you see the banners that look nice.
Everything's been redone in the Dome the last five to
six years. Then I realized, like, gosh, it really was

kind of bad in the nineties, wasn't it. Gosh, it
kind of was bad in the two thousands and the
twenty tens. It is a far better place to watch
a sporting event in football, basketball, whatever, you go for
concerts than what it was five to ten years ago.

I know a lot of people felt weird about having
seats in a dome stadium. Usually it's just bleacher seats.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
I liked it.

I'm in the minority, it feels like on social media.
But the carried home was not great. It was a
dump for a while, and it's no longer a dump.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Yeah, it looked nice. There was a lot of empty seats.

It felt like, Yeah, that was the weird part about it,
because they said there was forty one thousand capacities closer
to forty eight now because they actually took down capacity
because of the seats yep. But where they had the
most empty seats was camera side, so it like didn't
look great on television. Sin It's like, where are all
these empty seats? Wait a second? Why did you who

From the television side, all the most empty seats was
what people could see. I would say it's about eighty
five percent filled.

It sounds probably silly to Capital region sports fans from
comparison to fans with two hours west that the New
York State Fair was this weekend on Labor Day and
it actually does take away attendance at a football game.
I believe it was like one hundred and ten thousand
at the fair, and it was forty thousand at the
game the fair. I know, people were like, seriously, a
state fair effected a football It really did?
Speaker 2 (38:58):
I mean games? Yeah, is where I went. There was
a lot of people there. I mean that was It's
it happens.

You can't.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
Sometimes you can't do both all right, So it sounds
like you're you're in Like, I gotta be honest with you.
It's a little weird to hear her coach be that honest.
I kind of expected that to freak you out.

It did.

It did when they weren't whining, when they weren't winning
and they were playing poorly. It was all I thought
about the entire first half.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
You texted at one point, and I couldn't tell if
you had just been drinking. You're like, because they were winning,
You're like, we're almost like almost losing or something. But
you said it in a weird way like I was like.
I was like, oh, oh, he's he's gonna need he's
any moral support on the drive home.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
I didn't think they could stop the running back. Actually,
thinking back, if you're an Ohio fan who watched that game,
why did you stop giving him the ball? He was
ever in fourteen yards of carry.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
I think he was tired.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
They had a first and goal at the five Ohio
and they were in three passing plays. You have a
two hundred and thirty pound running back who's six foot one,
give him the ball, so Ohio made mistake? Was it
ties Tis the third?
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Yeah, he's a beast. You said it during the kickstarter.
He's gonna have somewhere else. He's well, he make it
through this year in Ohio or they will transferred during
the season because he's he's a beast. I there again,
though they're their line matched up better against your line
than I thought they would, which is not something that
you should feel good about.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
I agree with that, and even like that statement he
had there of like will he entered the portal again,
someone like thought we were probably being sarcastic and laughed, No,
don't forget. You have red shirt rules now where if
you're play in less than four games you can go
to another school, so like you can actually do what
we just joked around about. You know what, I played
my three for Ohio. I think we got enough tape.

Yeah, I mean, and it's it happened, but he could.

Honestly, like this year, with the drafting of the running backs,
I didn't feel like there was that star caliber for
most of them that the usually is.

He'll probably be okay out of Ohio.

I'm a little national scale. I'm a little surprised how
poorly those big time NFL draft running backs played Week one.
It's week one, Remember, a lot of those impact running
backs probably have to be really healthy for the stretch
run now that you might be playing games into late
December early January. It might be just more coaching of

not giving these guys four hundred carries. But Week one
biggest disappointment is when he looked at some of these
impact best draft class for running backs since twenty seventeen,
I wasn't super impressed by anybody besides Tracy coming from
there in the kid from Boise State who scored six touchdowns,
but he was pretty good.

Yeah, I'm just looking at tyas the third Anthony tys
the thirds numbers from his three years at Northwestern, where
he had two hundred and ten total yards in twenty one,
fifty six in twenty two, two hundred and seventeen in
twenty three, and now he has two hundred three in

one game, sixteen carries, and again against against an FBS school.

Be very interested to see what comes out out of

what I would have put them in the preseason. And
more importantly, besides Miami, it seems like the ACC really
