Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's a Tuesday Monday kind of thing. It's it's a
little bit of everything.
Speaker 2 (00:05):
So let's go ahead and get this thing kickstarted coming
off of this holiday weekend. Hopefully it had a great time.
Let's get the cd TA kickstarter underway. Ten headlines from
the weekend to make sure you're caught up, and then
we roll roll roll Mets when they're fifth straight. After
taking out the Red Sox four to one, they are
now ten games over five hundred and only half a
(00:29):
game behind the breaks for that final wild card spot.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
You know what a half game back would be striking distance, Levak,
Just like I was alsomber long.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
No, No, this really is though, This really is like
you're you're one night away from being in control of
your own destiny.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
You were never there.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Yeah, in my mind I was that close, but I
maybe never was.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Dangerous plays your mind, dangerous place.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
No. So the Mets live and well, live and kicking,
plenty of time left. They played good baseball. They look
pretty good. Bucks show Walters out there saying that if
it's up to him, he Francisco Lindor would be the
MVP of the league.
Speaker 3 (01:07):
Not you know what, I love that I do, Buck Showalter,
I don't usually agree with you. I was sticking it
back my head. I'm like Dane Lindor's playing fantastic. I
wonder when he's gonna be talking about for MVP. Sure enough.
Oh gosh, that's a weird start to a Tuesday. I'm
a green with Bucks Showalter.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
Welcome to the mental blender.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
Yankees topped the Rangers, and they were on a two
game losing streak. They're now a half game up on
your Orioles. Despite this scary moment in which Garrett Cole
grabs for the cap, suffering some cramps down in the
calf there. So Garrett Cole says he's fine. Said it
was okay to walk, said it was okay to run,
(01:47):
stretching was good. Something about the follow through on his
delivery made that crampert, but he said enough not to
worry kids.
Speaker 1 (01:55):
Old Garrett Cole, Old g Cole, He's ready to go.
Speaker 3 (02:00):
Talk about the most important Yankees for the stretch run.
He's second. Judge is one.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Okay, Cole is too. Well.
Speaker 2 (02:07):
It is interesting though, because remember Judge does tend to
go into witness protection once we get the postseason, So
you could argue Garrett might be one, Cole might be
might be number one, but regardless.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Don't want to lose any of them.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
No one, don't even Everything's fine, everything okay, will eat
a banana. Sometimes they say selter good, good for the cramps,
you know, So I've heard that. Yeah, actually I've had
There's like like if you drink like a Seltzer's water,
like a soda like the bows, I've had a cramp
go away while drinking it.
Speaker 1 (02:38):
So that is that. That is the thing.
Speaker 2 (02:40):
It's at least either either it works or my brain
has decided it works one way or another. Levac approved,
moving out to number eight to the ced E Ta
kick Starter. Here on this Tuesday Slash Monday edition of
Levac and Guz number eight on Netflix, Your Hero, My
Hero Captain America, Joey Chestnut takes down Kobayashi eighty three
(03:04):
hot dogs to sixty six, both of them personal best
Joey Chestnut going out there and getting it done.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
I have so much to say about this today. I
have so much. At one point this summer, like late June,
early July, before you and I went on vacation, one
of the few vacations. Never mind, actually, wait a second.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
Was a vacation was work, that's right, Yeah, where.
Speaker 3 (03:25):
You and I were doing some things. Uh, there were
times where that five o'clock hour in the summer was
all about chestnut at Kobayashi. I want to talk about
in the third hour. I have a lot to say
about it. I'll just tease you with this. I don't
feel very American after what happened. Really, that's my tease
for the third hour.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
Well, you're you're barely American anyway, You're you're kind of
a Canadian. Who's got the best national anthem?
Speaker 3 (03:49):
That's not I can have one take that's on the
side of another country.
Speaker 2 (03:53):
How Simone Biles the greatest female gymnast of all time? Yes, wow,
that's done. Yes, it's like acid in the mouth does though?
Oh no, all right, on a number seven. I got
a call by Buddy Joel today. Joel's the one's gonna
be putting a boiler in my house. And he goes,
(04:14):
you think you got good players, We got John Wick
catching the football. Ricky pearsall rookie for the forty nine Ers,
does an autograph session. Afterwards, goes for a walk to
go shopping by himself, is attacked by a seventeen year
old with a handgun who tries to rob him. A
scuffle ensues, Pearsall gets shot through the chest. His mother
(04:34):
would later tweet out or X or whatever the hell
you want to call it, that it was a through
and through when then the front came on the back
missed all vital organs.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
He is fine. The report is he was.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
The scuffle was him taking the gun from the seventeen
year old and shooting him back.
Speaker 3 (04:51):
I've never gone to San Francisco. I've never gone to
the day area. All I know about in San Francisco
is that every time there's a fight in a state,
it's the Niners versus somebody. Every time there's a fight
at a baseball game, it's Giants versus I don't think
it's an algorithm. I don't know if it's people have
more tech out in the Tech Valley. It seems like
a nasty the nastiest area in sports. And really there's
(05:15):
not a sports connection here besides the shooting. It's more
of what is going on on the left coast. My gosh.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
Well, just just to remind you too, like the stadium
is in Santa Clara, It's it's like forty minutes away,
like it's it's of all the places we've gone, it's
the one I at least want to go back to.
Like I went there to cover the Super Bowl. A
homeless man hissed at me in an alley. My favorite
was one of our friends from the who does radio
(05:41):
out of Dallas, who went, where are you staying? I'm like,
over at the Maria man, I'm jealous. I had to
step over a human turd, we'll say, for this day
to get out of my hotel. This morning, I was like,
oh great, all right, wonderful. San Francis gross, gross place.
But Ricky, your soul's ready for it. And he's gonna
save the stealing guns. He's gonna he's on the pup.
(06:05):
He's gonna miss at least four games.
Speaker 3 (06:06):
I'm here for the Brian Robinson Junior Many Men fifty
cent entrance video.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
Again.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
Both those guys can say we got shot and we've
come back to the NFL.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
But I mean he took the gut, all right, whatever
you continue on with the kickstarter. Less impressive than all
of that was Syracuse Football's wins on Saturday. I watched
that game out of out of loyalty and respect to
you and our brethren at w g Y, your home
for Syracuse football, and you got out physical by Ohio
(06:41):
for the majority of the game, one to one, your starters,
your top dogs, and they pushed Syracuse around. Later when
you got deeper into the bench, that's where that's where
it looked like Hughes had a little more, a little
more meat on the bone and was able to get
it done.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Unimpressive, But the W is the W.
Speaker 3 (06:58):
I'm gonna give it to. It's the third the running
back for the Ohio Bobcats. You're right when you give
up more than more than two hundred yards on the
ground to one player who was averaging throughout that game
twelve to fourteen yards to carry. Some of them weren't
wide open holes he was making guys. Miss I kept
screaming a few beers in is that? Eric Dicker said,
(07:18):
what is happening that? I convinced myself, Well, he's gonna
hit the portal. He'll be a power for school next year.
He already was at Northwestern. How many times are you
allowed to hit the portal?
Speaker 1 (07:27):
I don't think there's any I think you just go
with what you.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Want Syracuse has a few good players. Fran Brown not
happy about their own I got allowed to say about
Syracuse today too. I'm gonna squeeze some time. I'm about
to say this, want to know and OFX is your
home this weekend when they take on Georgia Tech inside
the GMA Wireless Stone.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Ou la lah, all right, what's more important?
Speaker 2 (07:46):
What's what is more disappointing than Syracuse? How about Florida State?
Florida State now oh and two. In the honor of
guys's dad jokes fsu more like fspu am. I right
here you go. Boston College gets it done last night.
Speaker 3 (08:09):
I can't stand preseason under bets. I just feel like
you're sometimes the bad person if you're constantly rooting a
week after week for months for watch one team suffer
if they're not their rival, if you're not your rival.
I got this one right. We're two games into it.
I told you in our college football preview that Florida
State's gonna be terrible. They're gonna be out of the
top twenty five. You gave me grief and said, if
(08:29):
you don't think they're a top twenty five team, then
I'll put them in your top twenty five. They're awful.
A lot of it's because of the transfer portable again,
a lot of their best players left. DJ gosh he
was getting roasted. Unga stinks.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
DJU.
Speaker 3 (08:46):
How about DJP you to him too?
Speaker 1 (08:48):
I got him again, got him again, roasted.
Speaker 3 (08:51):
ACC's wide open sort of CDTA Kickstarter rolls on.
Speaker 2 (08:56):
How about some good news local league? The try Ceddy
Valley Cats tonight will host the Ottawa Titans in a
one game, single elimination face off to see who's going
to go on and take on Quebec MBEC. So go
ValleyCats six point thirty today at the Joe sure yew
(09:20):
Scotto the same song.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
It was weird you minute, weird, you minute, weird. Bad
news for the Jets.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
It would appear as though they're getting ever so close
to taking on a pretty fully stocked San Francisco forty
nine ers team.
Speaker 1 (09:31):
Obviously, Ricky Pearson is not going to be.
Speaker 2 (09:33):
There in week one, but there is now a chance
that super left tackle Trent Williams will be there. All
reports are there is a deal in place, an agreement
has been made, so you could have to deal with
one of the best left tackles in all of football
when you were hoping you wouldn't have to for the Jets.
Speaker 3 (09:49):
You can hear all that action with the New York
Jets take on the San Francisco forty nine ers in
six days on your home for Jets football here in
the Campitar region Fox Sports ninety five nine to ninety.
If you miss, if you're not on social media, every
single Jet game this season, you can hear right here
on your home. For the Gents this upcoming fall, they
will be an extended levaking Gosh show on Monday. Oooh,
(10:10):
fifteen minutes longer than usual.
Speaker 1 (10:13):
I didn't agree with that.
Speaker 3 (10:14):
As we take you up to pregame coverage, which is
scheduled to start six fifteen this upcoming Monday.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
I didn't agree. I didn't agree to any of that.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
I will not give you next year fifteen minutes.
Speaker 1 (10:27):
I'm sorry, my time's not free. Okay, I don't know
what you.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
It'll even out. We have a show coming up that's
a half hour shorter later.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
I agreed to that. That I agreed, I agreed, that's okay,
all right. I almost want to flip these, but I'm
not going to do. You All many great Danes win
their home opener over l I. You Long Island, came
out strong, looked good early. You already kind did what
they do. They started slow and then handled business and.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
Got it done. But you already want to know.
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Storyline. The takeaway you had about the Syracuse, Ohio game
that at one point it felt more physical and then
you had enough dogs, enough depth, which is gonna be
the word of the year in college football because of
expanding schedules and the playoff and everything else. Kind of
felt the same way in the U all of the
game right where LUs push him a little bit. They're
the underdog in the game, and it's the half. Continue
to roll on you move it to the second half.
(11:21):
Too many big dudes, too many playmakers for the Great
Danes and win one of the season.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
I have more.
Speaker 2 (11:27):
Thoughts on this game than I would like to get
to a later point, much like GUZ and Syracuse and
hot Dogs.
Speaker 3 (11:34):
If that's that sounds like it's is it a transition,
yes or robotic?
Speaker 2 (11:38):
I didn't think number one in the CD Kickstarter two
days until the NFL kicks off, when the Baltimore Ravens
go and take on the Kansas City Chiefs, I think
it's gonna be a hell of a game. But get
excited to get fired up for it. But you know
what else that means. That mean that Friday fantasy versus reality.
That means that Sunday morning we will be at casino
(12:00):
and resort inside Van Slicks, maybe some bloody Mary action,
getting things going, getting fired up, getting ready to go.
The NFL coming back. They've got games Thursday, Friday, Sunday,
No Saturday, Monday. I believe Tuesday as well. There are
games every day, my friends.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
The NFL is here.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Thursday, Friday, Sunday, Monday. I don't think there's a Tuesday game.
But I knew your point you were trying to make.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
There.
Speaker 3 (12:23):
We got a lot.
Speaker 2 (12:24):
I'm going to make the build one. It's gonna happen.
It to be great. So there you go. The NFL
only two days away from it's a return to your
hearts to well and debut on Prime. And there's a
lot of weird stuff going on out there as far
as cable packages go. So what you might want to
look ahead and make sure you've got availability. Maybe joined
us at at rivers that might be a way to
(12:45):
do it.
Speaker 3 (12:45):
Peacock Paramount, ESPN, what else one game on another eventry CBS.
The place to be is Rivers Casino Resort. As we
are back competing against each we cannot wait for Sunday.
It is I've said this to people, the Holy Grail.
I don't think that's too much of a statement by
me that if you are a sports fan here in
the five to one eight and you want to experience
football with people, your favorite fan base is Wagering. It's
(13:08):
got food, drinks, a Sunday to sportsbook for kickoff the
NFL season, We're gonna be there eleven to one. That's
where you want to watch all the games, have all
the fun you can have as the NFL's back Thursday,
as Levax said, any other day you want football. The
kickstarter is going to be packed from now until February with.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
It absolutely and you know, maybe a good way to
get over there would be to check into CDTA. Hop
on board with CDTA to explore the Capital region. They
have over fifty roots connecting YouTube What matters along with
the CDPHP cycle featuring e bikes, the drive Electric Car
Sharing program CDTA is what connects us with a mobility
(13:48):
menu to meet all of your needs, visit CDTA dot
org or download the Navigator app and get connected. Today.
That was Kickstarter, brought to you by CDTA. I want
to talk a little more about this, this, this, this you
Albany game, if you don't mind, I think that maybe
we talk about some of the great local sports that
is that is happening right about now.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
If that's cool with you.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
Next, I like it all right, that's all coming out
Fox Sports Radio ninety nine.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
It's Lavack and Guzz on ninety five nine Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Live in the GT Toys studio. That's Toys with a Z.
It is Lavack and Gz. It was funny. I was, uh,
I was getting ready to come here today and uh,
actually I was here earlier today, I should say. And
Doug from g Why is like, where are you guys today?
I'm like, oh, we're in studio, goes really like he.
Speaker 1 (14:39):
Was shocked by it.
Speaker 3 (14:40):
We are gonna be packed this September. We we had
a promo meeting today and about every other meeting today
Leavaca actually was like another meeting, can we go? We
are packed this September, So be on the lookout. Make
sure you're listening. If you're in the capital region. We're
gonna be all over the place and cannot wait to
enjoy some football action with you. Where are we this week?
So this week, we're this weekend. We kick off the
NFL C in Thursday. You mentioned in the kickstarter we're
(15:01):
two days away. We're gonna be kicking it off with
the live broadcast for Mohawk Chevrolet.
Speaker 1 (15:05):
Okay, Friday.
Speaker 3 (15:07):
At this moment, I can't say still where we're gonna be.
We have two things up in there. We will be
out Friday, but as soon as I get clear on
somewhere it can be Friday. We will be out Friday.
Next week in Honda, We've got McGregor Lynx coming.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
Up next week This Sunday, we're gonna be this Sunday.
Speaker 3 (15:21):
As we mentioned about Rivers, we are all over the place.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
All right, Okay, that's a lot. It's a lot going
on right there. I am at it. You already getting
it done. I do. I think I think I have
a different take than you.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Do on this one, because again I look at the
physicality that we saw with Q's Ohio just looked. Ohio
looked like they they were like, Okay, we're gonna punch
you in the face and we're gonna see how you react.
That was like I felt like that was like the
the their their whole plan was attack, attack, attack, and
see see if they can hang with us, you know
(15:55):
how long, maybe maybe we can break their will.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
It kind of that's that's how it felt. Where like
with you Albany, I got a very.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
Different vibe simply because I felt like they started to
get it as the game went on, Like I think,
like it's one of those situations where you know they're
notoriously slow starters, that's what they've been, but it hasn't
it doesn't. That almost becomes like a soothing point I
think at some points, because like you can be down
(16:24):
two touchdowns of the half, if you're a U Almany fan,
you feel like you're gonna win that game, Like you
better be up three scores at the half if you
want to believe, if you want me to believe that,
you've put a lead in place that I might not
be able to eat into. But I think it was
it was for me, it was Miles Burkett started to
get it together, started to see the transfer out of Wisconsin,
started to kind of see what he was, what he
(16:46):
was working with. UH seven McGee started getting the ball.
But Special Teams was so solid. I thought, for you
all me the whole game, it was a blackout. The
black uniforms look amazing. I just I thought it was
one of those things where you saw you almany kind
of piece it all together as the game went on.
And thank god you have this game before the next one,
because West Virginia is playing angry.
Speaker 3 (17:06):
Ooh, I got a lot to say about that West
Virginia stuff. But let's acknowledge what's happening right now. Because
if you listen to the VAK guys for a long time,
whatever side it is, but it's the podcast side. Maybe
you listen to we launched here in May or even
far before then in a different world. Let's admit it.
It's rare that on Labor Day weekend. In our opening segment,
(17:28):
not the kickstarter, but our second segment, if you want
to call it, the opening topic, we discussed is you
Albany football? Well own it. In the past, it might
have been the Yankees and the Mets in the past
that it might have been a Giant's jet storyline, maybe
it was Syracuse, maybe it was a national story. Think
about what just happened I know there's some weirdness and
awareness level of like I'm talking about myself talking about
something as if I'm narrating my own story.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Great Deadpool. Very meta, right, it's very meta.
Speaker 3 (17:52):
For me right now. But let's recognize what that means.
Like our goal is to talk about what you're talking
about in here in the Capitol Region reflecting the sport
fan interest you already had, amazing uniforms, a new fan
base because new students are heading on campus, new field,
a new field, new expectations, new impact players. That's five
(18:13):
right here. I'm gonna leave it at five. But now
on a Labor Day weekend in the Capitol Region with
a Final four contending team with teams in the past
like James Madison and Delaware in twenty twenty five and
other you could name the teams that you already's played before.
The fact that now you Albanny Football's at a spot
(18:33):
where locally we're talking about this on the first September
week is a compliment to coach Greg Catusso and the
staff and everything else in the popularity that's seen this grow.
Game wise, I don't have much to add that you
had it, Like I meant seven McGee is his name,
Levic did not misspeak better, Like his name is seven,
like I think he said seven. That's he had a
(18:53):
seventy five yard touchdown play. But his name seven Grifford Woodell,
like he's got a local tie and everything else, Like
this is what's happened for you Albany football, that you
and I have got to see the growth from the field,
And that's not pun intended because we actually have been
on the field before in doing things for you allmby football.
So I just want to recognize that the compliment of
what has happened for you Albany football here locally. Now,
(19:15):
maybe you disagree, maybe the Gospenlevak are talking about you Albany.
Lavak and Gosh just had their second segment about the
Great Danes being lu he'd let us know at the
Jeff Levaca on Twitter at Tom Goss tmgo's easy at
wf X ninety. Maybe I'm giving the Great Danes too
much love today. Maybe you're giving them too much love today, Levac,
But I don't think so. If you consume to the content,
(19:35):
we'll call it, you know, like it's a different time
now in the Capitol region and the Great Dane football
program is the big reason why.
Speaker 2 (19:44):
You know, I didn't do it intentionally, like I didn't
sit here and go you know what I'm I want
to I want to make a point to talk more
local sports. That's not not the case. No, you almne
impresses me like it's these dudes are big. They are
they they look the part it's gonna be. I think
it's a very good West Virginia. It's weird because you
look at the Syracuse team they played, that was a
(20:05):
very good team, the Hawaii team, all these other teams
they played. They played some really really powerful teams.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Recently.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
West Virginia strikes me as a team that's on the verge.
They're on the cusp, if you will, and that might
not be a great time to get a hold of them,
but this is when you get them.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
This is going to be.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
You know again, I'm glad you got to play Long
Island because as Long Island came out, they treated you
like you were their championship game, their super Bowl, if
you will. But you got the w handle the business
these next two games, in particular on the road, but
this West Virginia game Morgantown, West Virginia who knows.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Listen, I'll tell you what.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
You always get talked about by Pat mcaveee more this
week than they ever have. Yes, and and the Idaho next,
Like those are two tough teams.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
This is a moment where I wish we could wager
legally on New York teams. Really, whatever the number is,
think about it all. Like you and I when we
last spoke on Friday, we looked at that West Virginia
Penn State game and gosh, there was so much action
on that game. We're talking about the line shifting and
everything else where. By the time that game kicked off,
touchdown maybe six and a half depending on what book
(21:15):
you're looking at. And West Virginia's defense is pretty good,
Like that was the big newon kickoff the game, you
can't miss. The energy was through the roof. As you mentioned,
from McAfee to the Fox Sports side, West Virginia fans
were going wild. So when you have all that build up,
the potential knockout victory of a top ten, top fifteen
program in Penn State, but your quarterback's not playing great,
(21:36):
West Virginia struggled to find a playmaker. The defense is good,
they don't look at EU Aalbney and think they're going
to be a test all the adrenalin, all the excitement,
everything else. They're like, well, at least we got an
easy game next week against U Albady, not thinking about
what the great things just did last season, not thinking
about the great things being a Final four team, knocking
off FBS opponents in the past and more. This is
(21:59):
a perfect setup for you, Albany.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
Do you think so.
Speaker 3 (22:03):
I'm not saying to pull the upset. I'm not that
bold quite yet.
Speaker 2 (22:06):
I think you're getting a snuck the victory last week.
That's perfect. This, this is this is nerve wracking.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
I would set the line in. I don't know if
you have it in front of you. It's not out yet, Okay,
I will throw a number out there. I want to
say twenty eight and a half. My gosh, that sounds
massive now. I wish it was close to like twenty
four and a half. So there's gonna be a three
touchdown dog in my mind, and I would love to
take you Albany with the points I want to find.
That's if it's anything less than thirty, they can hang
(22:38):
in this game, like I could see it being a
twenty one fourteen or a fourteen to seven game at
half time, I could see you Albany being within ten.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
Points a half.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
Okay, so you're you're not calling for an upset, no, no, no,
but you're calling for you Albany to be in this
game right up until the end.
Speaker 3 (22:55):
I think you Albandy can absolutely challenge Most Virginia. Like,
here's what would struggle with you, Albany. Right, if West
Virginia had Tevon Austin on the offense, a Tevon Austin
like player Stedman Bailey, Steve Slayton, Pat White, we know
what we're talking about here. Where explosive speed, no doubt,
the best player on the field. Nobody can stop this
guy in the game would be over an FBS comparison. Recently,
(23:15):
Travis Hunter in the Colorado game, right, Colorado versus North
Dakota State. He was so much better than everybody else
that turned into a basketball game where it's like, okay,
just give him the ball. Every single nobody can stop
him on the field. Who does West Virginia have on
the field that can have that happen. I don't think
they have that playmaker. After watching the Penn State game.
So you're telling me you can get into a physical
test and a team on offense that's struggling, that is
(23:37):
a r and the emotions of a week previous. It
has the recipes of a perfect setup for you all
buty to contend. And here on a Tuesday, not bold
enough to say the upset, this is what you'd want
if you were underdog going on the road. What just
happened to West Virginia. I would say coming off a
big wins a better spot for an upset. But sometimes
the team who comes off a big win is actually
(23:57):
really good. I'm not kiing get it's good.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
What's the win for you? Albany?
Speaker 3 (24:03):
I love that question, and here's why I love that
question now in twenty twenty four. If you ask me
that question the last eight years, the last eight years,
I would have had the same stupid answer, Tommy hot
take answer or did the same of Well they if
they stay competitive and they do their best, it's a
moral victory. They're gonna be just I already know what
(24:24):
my answer, and I could feel my brain wanting to
say that. I think we've hit a point now for
the program. The answers win Like coach Katuso isn't gonna say, well,
we played hard against West Virginia, like everybody's moved past that.
I don't know if I'm at that same point now,
Like if they lose by ten okay, fine, I don't
think coach Katuo, sir, anybody on that roster feels good
(24:44):
about a ten point loss to West Virginia anymore. And
maybe that's too much of swagger, too much confidence. But
the program has all these things. Now, am I jumping
the gun too much? Maybe maybe my bar set too high?
Speaker 2 (24:56):
Now for the Great Danes, you just said they're gonna
be a three touchdown doll and anything short of of
a win is a loss.
Speaker 3 (25:02):
No, no, no, you asked what would be considered a win, right,
I would say now they're at the point where they're
not gonna consider that the TEAMO win.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
No no, listen, obviously, kachk Tussa is never gonna say that. Now,
if you get on the other side of it, Westervirginia
ends up with more points than you, Albany, he is
gonna sit down and go here's here's where we got better.
Speaker 1 (25:20):
Here's where we got better today. This is why we
did this is why we did this.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
But for us, for people on the outside looking in,
for fans of you Albany, for fans of college football,
how do you like?
Speaker 1 (25:35):
Is it cover? Is it ten points? Is it a win? Like?
What what is it? You walk away going? You Albany's real?
Speaker 3 (25:43):
How about one possession game in the fourth quarter? Okay,
how about one possession game if you lose by seventeen
or fourteen or twenty one, you had the ball with
a chance in the fourth how about that that? I guess,
I guess that finds it. That's some a happy medium
between huge upset that chocks the world gets blown out.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
I'll give you that, because that's the other thing I will.
I will also point out that I don't think a
lot of people are noticing this is a new you
Albany team. Like you said, all the different new new things,
but like this is there's a lot of transfers, there's
a lot of step ups. There's a lot of guys
who have laughed, whether it be for the draft or
through the portal or whatever.
Speaker 1 (26:18):
So like, it does take a little while.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
No matter how well you prepare these guys, until you
play a game, you don't know what it feels like.
To play a game, so they played one. It was
a tough one lu game of fight man Like it's
I think it's a huge compliment that you just said
that they should have to win against West Virginia.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
I think it's a huge compliment.
Speaker 3 (26:40):
If they want to consider to win. Like when I
learned about coach Gatusa when Syracuse played you Albin a
few years ago. I remember this and he probably doesn't
think of it like I do, or media members or
fans do, but I remember it so well. He was
on a pregame show and I want to say it
was with Matt Park. Then the voice of the Orange's
still the voice of the Orange. You can hear this week.
And they asked me a question like, don't you feel
(27:02):
like playing Syracuse is your super Bowl? Coach katus Is like,
if playing Syracuse is my super Bowl, then we need
to figure something out because that's not. We accomplished far
more than losing to a four and eight FBS team.
And I think a statement like that, in a moment
like that remade people think about what this FBS FCS
stuff is, Like it's almost too much of a David
(27:22):
versical life because we've seen that James Madison's the world compete.
We're seeing what conference the US they can do. We
saw the North Dakota State game in South Dakota State
for a few minutes against Oklahoma State. I almost feel
like you all, But he's like, we don't care about
that stuff anymore like FCS, FBS. We think we can
hang with anybody which is coming off a Final four
season two.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
Well and a season that was the maybe the hardest
schedule they've ever faced. Yes, I mean that was That
was one of those ones where it's like the schedule
maker doesn't like you, like it just doesn't doesn't care
for you, doesn't like you, doesn't want you to feel
good about yourself.
Speaker 1 (27:54):
But I just, I mean, what was your answer?
Speaker 3 (27:57):
I know ten, but maybe you're you're with the cover?
Speaker 1 (28:00):
I see.
Speaker 2 (28:01):
I thought for me, I was thinking West Virginia has
me laying eighteen and a half somewhere in that rains
eighteen seventeen and a half to eighteen and a half
right around there, and then I was gonna say cover
if they which obviously, again please understand this is not
me saying that, you all, but he's gonna go, oh,
thank god, we covered, Like I don't even think most
(28:23):
of the guys are gonna have any idea what the
spread is because you can't find it. It's not on
your apps, it's not on your stuff. They're not allowed
to bet, so like whatever. But like for me as somebody,
but you gotta remember too, like I've watched this program
grow to the point where like we've had trolls get
lose their mind on me because I'm like, if you
watch the way the defense performed against Pitt early in
(28:46):
the game, this is a good this is a good,
really good team. Don't don't watch the final numbers as
much as the first half when when it was ones
to ones and everyone's like one troll in particular, just
like you're stupid this numbers of the numbers, Like you, dude,
you don't watch the game. You didn't watch, That's what
I'm saying. So for me, I'm sitting here like I
want to see Miles Brooker get that much more comfortable.
(29:10):
I want to see McGee's speed in the open field.
If he can get out there and do that against
West Virginia, that's amazing. And you know, West Virginia is
a team that you know they've they've been got a
pretty stout history of special teams. If you all, any
special teams plays as well, if not better than West
Virginia special teams. I started looking at the rest of
the schedule. I don't see a team that that you're
an underdog too. That might be maybe that's maybe that's
(29:32):
what I need. I need to be able to see
the spreads, because right now I think West Virginia is
the only thing to will be the favorite over them.
Speaker 3 (29:39):
Right Delaware later in the season might be a close game.
I believe that games in Delaware so, but the point
is still taken up. This is a new era for
you all many football. It's a new time here for
Campbel region sports fans. It's we have entered the fall
football season in the year twenty twenty four. Where if
you've been looking for the team to root for here locally,
we've heard it some New Year's the I'm gonna go
(30:02):
watch the Giants and the Jets, or I'm gonna go
West of the Bills, which is great, you can do that.
We love Syracuse. We talked about on the kickstart. I'm
sure I'll tell you more about the Orange later on.
With this fall feels different, you felt the atmosphere. You
talked about what you saw, same with me of ooh,
this doesn't feel like twenty fifteen or twenty eighteen or
twenty twenty one with the weird spring COVID season of
(30:22):
this doesn't even feel like what Capitol Regions sports fans
are used to when we discuss you Albany football.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
In the fall.
Speaker 3 (30:29):
The whole thing has changed again. It's one game, you know,
any game three or four, we're gonna get something different.
Speaker 2 (30:35):
One game coming off of the best season of the
history of the program. Yeah, well, like the entire area
if you think about it, because like obviously the Firebirds,
everybody's everybodys starting to rally on the Firebirds. Your boy
is taken over at union. That's John Drock. And then
my guy is helping with the Hudson Valley program.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
And he scheduled the jonas later today. If I'm not
a sick during and not an off day during practice week,
I think, thanks, thank you.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Yeah, he literally is like, it's a it's a tight break.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
I'll enswer the phone if you're late, don't call, but
you know it's fair, it's fair, which they're coming off
a forty six nothing victory over Buffalo State University JV.
That's a's a valley on a little bit of a
tear two.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
When I was to start the year.
Speaker 2 (31:17):
So it's a good time to like football in the
Cap region.
Speaker 1 (31:21):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (31:21):
The next U Albney home game, which I cannot wait
because I want to be I want to go to
as making as I can this year. The hometown Heroes game,
which is going to be September twenty eighth when.
Speaker 1 (31:32):
They host Maine.
Speaker 2 (31:34):
So a little CIA action on Bob Ford Field at
Tom and Mary Casey Stadium. That's that should be. That
should be a lot of fun. Three thirty kick. So
maybe tell you, you know, maybe maybe get after it
a little bit. Maybe you can remember where you live
instead of going to Syracuse all the time.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
You know.
Speaker 3 (31:50):
Maybe maybe I haven't marked on my calendar this next
home game. If I do go, I think I'm bringing
the boys, so you might have to do the tailgating
for me, or you just found yourself for ride back
or maybe out you know, No, I don't. I don't
know if I'll bring the CRV the out sea. We
might have to see Scar Joe attendants for this one.
Speaker 2 (32:06):
Well, I mean, obviously if I'm gonna I'll drive. Keep
your hands off my woe. How about how about I
how about.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
I grope your wife? How about that? That's not yeah? Yeah,
well Scar Joe is not pregnant. She's just beautiful. She's
she's she's the love of my life. Guys.
Speaker 2 (32:26):
I met her at Mohawks Chevrolet where they always go
out of their way to please you.
Speaker 1 (32:31):
Uh together, let's drive a mawalk Chevy. Check it out.
I was talking to I was talking to coach where
earlier today he's he might be.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Looking at a new Mohawks Chevrolet, and a lot of
my friends are starting to look at those evs. They
got a great compliment of evs on the lot. They've
got uh supplier pricing still going on. So your chance
to save thousands, potentially thousands of dollars on vehicles and
a lot whether it be Sedan's SUVs, UH pickup trucks,
whatever it is you're looking for work trucks. They have
fleet services now. They have so many great things going
(32:57):
on at Mohawks Chevrolet. It's becoming the place to go
for yours for everything, service, maintenance, buying, selling. With car Bravo,
you can get any kind of vehicle. It's all going
on and Mohawk Chevrolet. This is a great time to
get and get your service. Get the you know, oil change,
tires rotated everything. It got down to forty eight degrees
(33:18):
last night. I don't want to be that guy, but
it was forty eight degrees last night. Before you know it,
it gonna be cold. Everybody's been lined up for oil
changes and everything under the sun. Get it done now
at Molaks Chevrolet to you get let's drive in mawks
Chevy where they always go out of their way to
please you.
Speaker 1 (33:33):
Do you want to talk about QUS next year? You? Yeah,
swallowed it down and long enough. Now you need it out.
I like this, all right, let's do it. It's coming
up next right here. Fox Sports Radio ninety five nine
and nine eighty.
Speaker 3 (33:43):
It's AVAC and Gus on ninety five nine Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (33:49):
Live and the.
Speaker 2 (33:49):
GT Toys do that's toys with a Z. All right, listen.
I watched Syracuse football. It wasn't horrific, you know, it wasn't.
It wasn't the worst thing I've ever watched. I know,
I know everybody expects me to to do that, but
I'm not not gonna do 'll think I'm gonna do
and freak out. You got the w what what was
(34:11):
I guess most of all, what was your takeaway from
your squad? Because I thought was it McCord? Yes, so
it was a nice deep ball. I thought that Gadsden
the tight end, I thought he was. I just thought
he was a big wide receiver. He's like Evan Ingram
two point zero. Does he play wide out? Does he
(34:33):
play tight end? His dad played for the Dolphins, he
might remember him. Yeah, he's he's really good.
Speaker 1 (34:37):
Seven catches, hundred yards, touchdown, big dude. I thought.
Speaker 2 (34:42):
Not the toughest qus team I have ever seen. I
thought with this, Uh his friend came from coach friend Joja. Yeah,
so I thought they'd be a little more physical.
Speaker 3 (34:52):
I would not want to be at practice this week.
Let's put it like that. I think coach Browns had
that the takeaways from the game. So the things that
I feel like happened in game one you'll see in
the future that are real impact stories. By the way, well,
Sarah fran Brown, you can hear the fran Brown's Coaches
Show eight o'clock on Saturday, and I actually had a
lot of quotes that impacted the game. This was going viral,
sort of just in the central New York area about
(35:13):
what happened on that show last week, not coach ordering
a Shirley Templin and Berger, but instead, halfway into the show,
they asked me, like, how do you feel about being
a head coach for the first time? He's like, guys,
I gotta be honest, I'm kind of nervous, like I'm
not feeling great about this, Like I gotta make decisions.
I don't know if I'm gonna do well. I've been
calling my mentors about what do I do? Like, WHOA,
(35:33):
that's almost too candid for me, flat un admitting I'm
really nervous about what happens on fourth down. I don't
know how I'm gonna handle a third and two in
the third he did fine, I would say, in comparison
to other syrahcuse Deino Baber's clock management fantastic on offense.
I mean this wide receiver called three hundred yards in
Arizona in this first game back as an OC, but
(35:55):
fran Brown was very open about his concerns as managing
the clock as a coach. He was good, he said
in the postgame press conference. Coach what's your biggest takeaway?
We need to stop the run, as you said, you
gotta figure that out quick. They got four guys. They
got McCord who's really good. He almost threw a pick
sick on his first pass, though wouldn't have been great
to throw it in the other team's chest on your
(36:16):
first pass, but becred of the quarterback's good Gadsden, that
wide receiver tight end mix digs one of their defense events.
Who is one of these four or five star guys.
He might get actually blocked in a few more games
coming up, but sometimes he was dominating because nobody could
touch him. And the biggest hurt for Syracuse is Marlowe
Wax injured, could be out about a month and a half,
(36:38):
their best defensive player. So those are the takeaways. Can
they find someone to replace Wax on a defense that
gave up two hundred plus yards? Will fran Brown be
able to figure out the clock? And mccording company on
that offense win games by themselves because they're that good
story lines all for Georgia Tech. But yes, yeah, yeah,
(36:58):
as they take on George Yeah yeah, a new noon
kickoff and said, I the JMA Wireless Dome, which that's
my second big takeaway.
Speaker 1 (37:06):
I have to admit this.
Speaker 3 (37:07):
This hurts as a Syracuse fan. Someone is a kid
that used to go to the Dome all the time.
That place was a dump for a while, wasn't it
Like it was kind of You see the new seats,
you see air conditioning, you see the banners that look nice.
Everything's been redone in the Dome the last five to
six years. Then I realized, like, gosh, it really was
(37:29):
kind of bad in the nineties, wasn't it. Gosh, it
kind of was bad in the two thousands and the
twenty tens. It is a far better place to watch
a sporting event in football, basketball, whatever, you go for
concerts than what it was five to ten years ago.
Speaker 1 (37:44):
I really like it.
Speaker 3 (37:45):
I know a lot of people felt weird about having
seats in a dome stadium. Usually it's just bleacher seats.
Speaker 1 (37:51):
I liked it.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
I'm in the minority, it feels like on social media.
But the carried home was not great. It was a
dump for a while, and it's no longer a dump.
Speaker 1 (38:00):
Yeah, it looked nice. There was a lot of empty seats.
Speaker 3 (38:03):
It felt like, Yeah, that was the weird part about it,
because they said there was forty one thousand capacities closer
to forty eight now because they actually took down capacity
because of the seats yep. But where they had the
most empty seats was camera side, so it like didn't
look great on television. Sin It's like, where are all
these empty seats? Wait a second? Why did you who
(38:23):
sold this?
Speaker 1 (38:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (38:24):
From the television side, all the most empty seats was
what people could see. I would say it's about eighty
five percent filled.
Speaker 2 (38:30):
Eighty Was it really okay? I was gonna say, cause
it was. It was like the nicer seats they were open.
It was like a Yankee.
Speaker 1 (38:36):
Ume.
Speaker 3 (38:37):
It sounds probably silly to Capital region sports fans from
comparison to fans with two hours west that the New
York State Fair was this weekend on Labor Day and
it actually does take away attendance at a football game.
I believe it was like one hundred and ten thousand
at the fair, and it was forty thousand at the
game the fair. I know, people were like, seriously, a
state fair effected a football It really did?
Speaker 2 (38:58):
I mean games? Yeah, is where I went. There was
a lot of people there. I mean that was It's
it happens.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
You can't.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
Sometimes you can't do both all right, So it sounds
like you're you're in Like, I gotta be honest with you.
It's a little weird to hear her coach be that honest.
I kind of expected that to freak you out.
Speaker 1 (39:16):
It did.
Speaker 3 (39:17):
It did when they weren't whining, when they weren't winning
and they were playing poorly. It was all I thought
about the entire first half.
Speaker 2 (39:23):
You texted at one point, and I couldn't tell if
you had just been drinking. You're like, because they were winning,
You're like, we're almost like almost losing or something. But
you said it in a weird way like I was like.
I was like, oh, oh, he's he's gonna need he's
any moral support on the drive home.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
I didn't think they could stop the running back. Actually,
thinking back, if you're an Ohio fan who watched that game,
why did you stop giving him the ball? He was
ever in fourteen yards of carry.
Speaker 1 (39:48):
I think he was tired.
Speaker 3 (39:49):
They had a first and goal at the five Ohio
and they were in three passing plays. You have a
two hundred and thirty pound running back who's six foot one,
give him the ball, so Ohio made mistake? Was it
ties Tis the third?
Speaker 2 (40:01):
Yeah, he's a beast. You said it during the kickstarter.
He's gonna have somewhere else. He's well, he make it
through this year in Ohio or they will transferred during
the season because he's he's a beast. I there again,
though they're their line matched up better against your line
than I thought they would, which is not something that
you should feel good about.
Speaker 3 (40:20):
I agree with that, and even like that statement he
had there of like will he entered the portal again,
someone like thought we were probably being sarcastic and laughed, No,
don't forget. You have red shirt rules now where if
you're play in less than four games you can go
to another school, so like you can actually do what
we just joked around about. You know what, I played
my three for Ohio. I think we got enough tape.
(40:40):
I'm going somewhere else for one more year.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
Yeah, I mean, and it's it happened, but he could.
Speaker 2 (40:47):
Honestly, like this year, with the drafting of the running backs,
I didn't feel like there was that star caliber for
most of them that the usually is.
Speaker 1 (40:55):
He'll probably be okay out of Ohio.
Speaker 3 (40:58):
I'm a little national scale. I'm a little surprised how
poorly those big time NFL draft running backs played Week one.
It's week one, Remember, a lot of those impact running
backs probably have to be really healthy for the stretch
run now that you might be playing games into late
December early January. It might be just more coaching of
(41:19):
not giving these guys four hundred carries. But Week one
biggest disappointment is when he looked at some of these
impact best draft class for running backs since twenty seventeen,
I wasn't super impressed by anybody besides Tracy coming from
there in the kid from Boise State who scored six touchdowns,
but he was pretty good.
Speaker 2 (41:39):
Yeah, I'm just looking at tyas the third Anthony tys
the thirds numbers from his three years at Northwestern, where
he had two hundred and ten total yards in twenty one,
fifty six in twenty two, two hundred and seventeen in
twenty three, and now he has two hundred three in
(42:00):
one game, sixteen carries, and again against against an FBS school.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
So still still a thing.
Speaker 2 (42:10):
Be very interested to see what comes out out of
his his career six one two, twenty six allegedly. So
I just crazy how do you feel about your cues?
Are they you've been saying they're gonna win the National Championship?
Do you still feel that way?
Speaker 3 (42:22):
I feel like eight wins is seriously realistic. This is
what I would have put them in the preseason. And
more importantly, besides Miami, it seems like the ACC really
does feel wide open. Clemson, Ye, he looks like poop.
It does also look like that, but it was like
wide open or very very bad. However, however, your glasses
(42:43):
are sitting on your head. This week is where I
think we get a feel for what you can. You
hang with Georgia Tech, because Georgia Tech is gonna come
for you. They're two and zero two and oh ready
for the second hour.
Speaker 2 (42:55):
I am very ready for you. Sorry, with the top
four or four which will be coming up next right here.
Fox Sports Radio ninety five, nine and nine eighty
